do you consciously apply different standards in terms of manners and respect towards the people you communicate with electronically compared with those you apply when addressing ppl in person?

yes MDC, I like to think that I apply that principle, but I have failed to do so on numerous occasions in the past. Maybe the fact that you don't see the rage on someone's face, don't see the fists clenching and (in extreme cases) don't feel the punch in the face mean that ppl are more inclined to be offensive online and it is easy forget that the ability to offend is still there. The fact that the 2 computers are separated by perhaps thousands of miles can act as a desensitising shield.

OMG I just had a coffee with Sarah from Dubstar a few weeks ago, we got to know each other fairly well back then because she was on my friend's label and it's worth pointing out that they were produced by Stephen Hague who did so much Pet Shop Boys stuff. Top girl. She has a new band called Client.

This very subject came up last night, oddly. Not Sarah Blackw00d but the whole 'what you post makes more sense having met you' meme; also about how certain ILXors who are a total pain in the arse online turn out to be complete charmers in a more natural setting. I seem a lot more 'mwah! dahling!' on here than I am in person, where how I am makes a lot more sense and it's clear that I'm more tomboyish than your average effete boho fashion person yet do a rather good line in bons mots. Secure, intelligent people (which comprise the majority of ILXors) arging a position opposite to mine usually earn my respect because a) they haven't been trying to earn it and b) they post about some other aspect of themselves which renders them more sympatico to me and allows me to see the fuller person.

Also I do notice here that I have a certain amount of firewall; if you are arguing with me online for the first time I think whoareyounamerankserialnumberplease. I blame the random nature of the internet for that really; if someone appears here and another ILXor I like vouches for them as a 'sound' person even though they are pissing me off mightily, I give them the benefit of the doubt and reckon they're probably okay face to face. Then when I meet thew person, I give myself five minutes to sort it and let the drinking commence, seen?

The only part of that composite that fits me is the Skinny Puppy CD, although I did often wear my brother's Air Force trenchcoat and my cousin's combat boots (usually with an Izod shirt and Dockers). I started my new job today and saw about 200 electroclash people in 4 hours. I played some electroclash for them, also some playgroup dj kicks. Some had gone too far, and some looked great.

I'm pretty much the same online and in real life. I can get a bit sarcastic sometimes but I'm not really ever rude to anyone, I don't think. The rudest thing I do online is take forever to answer emails but I blame that on my dizzy lifestyle.
