Oh no, hang on, his gf isn't a celeb wannabe, she's a Colleen wannabe. Several orders of magnitude worse.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 09:16 (twenty years ago)

The celebrity wannabe has something like six million in contracts for endorsements for this year alone, which makes me long for the days when these silly bitches had to be satisfied with match tickets and Magaluf.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 09:24 (twenty years ago)

The endorsements etc account for the (probably) ridiculously optimistic recovery dates and Sven's touching insistence he will go whatever the sate of his metatarsal, I suspect. Can the endorsees renegotiate Colleens's six million? Or is this sort of thing planned for? Or will they somehow play up the patient bird aiding Wayne's recovery angle to make her even more well-known/sympathetic?

I would like to know the economic effects of Rooney's injury, in terms of unsold tellies and that sort of thing.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 10:07 (twenty years ago)

I think they're the normal kind of endorsements where unless you're found with your knickers around your ankles in the gutter outside ChinaWhite you get to keep the cash no matter what.

Remember when Mr Banhart was a replicant? (darraghmac), Saturday, 19 June 2010 14:33 (sixteen years ago)

DDarragh, don't really see your issue with The Guardian there.
Describing them pre-tournament as legitimate contenders isn't the same thing as suggesting they're the favourites. Pre-tournament, it was hardly inconceivable that England could win the World Cup, even though it was unlikely. Maybe a 10-1 shot, behind more plausible candidates like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, etc.
Saying, in the wake of last night's performance, that England had failed to live up to that standard is just true. To say England are underachieving at the moment is just stating the obvious. It's not as if The Guardian are banging on saying "this team should be beating everyone in the world".

I Ain't Committing Suicide For No Crab (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 19 June 2010 14:40 (sixteen years ago)

'an apology for legitimate wc contenders'- maybe i'm reading it wrong, but that's not the same thing as saying ' we thought they might be but they're blatantly not' there's very much a ring of 'they're underperforming but are still legitimate contenders'. which is very much stfu.

Hooker Rooined his World Cup

At last someone else to blame for the world cup crapfest. It was all the hookers fault and not Rooney for failing to keep his dick in his pants.

Duncan Donuts (Ned Trifle II), Monday, 6 September 2010 12:41 (fifteen years ago)

Nothing to do with England having loads of shit players and no skill either.

no time for the prussian death cult (nakhchivan), Monday, 6 September 2010 12:46 (fifteen years ago)

He was meant to be one of the biggest stars on the world stage but instead was one of the biggest flops - failing to score in four games as England crashed out.

Rooney had scored goals galore for United and England up to mid-March but failed to net one goal from his last 10 games of the season, including the World Cup.

Such a load of shit, he isn't in yr Messi/Villa/Iniesta class to begin with and it neglects to mention he had a fucking ANKLE INJURY near the end of the season.

Rooney made a comment recently about how Capello was hard to understand at times

Number None, Tuesday, 26 June 2012 23:30 (thirteen years ago)

I have now read the amazing story.

Capello said: "After seeing the latest game [against Italy], I think Rooney only understands Scottish. That's because he only plays well in Manchester, where Sir Alex Ferguson speaks Scottish."

Alba, Tuesday, 26 June 2012 23:31 (thirteen years ago)
