Hey there, you want to have a good time? Why not try a pub quiz and karaoke session for my birthday?

Chaps. I turn 26 years old on Thursday 14th October 2004. I would be thrilled if people in the vicinity of Central London that evening would like to accompany me in any or all of some drinking, quizzing and singing, as discussed here. If the pub has a dartboard and bar billiards we can make it a pentathlon!

Kicking off at the Mortimer Arms after work, not sure when the quiz is, ho hum. Staggering to the (it's nearby, alright? I'm not saying it's a splendid example of the publican's art) Pint Pot for further ruin and karaoke at probably 10ish. No-one else is allowed to do Sk8r Boi. That is all.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd love to hear belt out 'I'm With You' actually

Brigadier Rainham Steele, Mrs (blueski), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Its getting hot in herre...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Waaaaaaaaaah.

Someone better sing 'you said no' for me.

cis (cis), Thursday, 30 September 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 30 September 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 30 September 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

When come London, bring Archypie.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 30 September 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm - pie... Oh yeah, I'M COMING AS WELL!

robster (robster), Thursday, 30 September 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

so sorry liz - i won't be able to make it. i'm in toronto for a wedding. but have fun y'all!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 30 September 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

You're giving Gareth a run for his money at the moment.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 September 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

BUMP!

So, what time should I be attempting to arrive at this Mortimer Arms joint then? I probably don't get out of work until 6 anyway, but will get myself on the ruin express to - is Victoria or London Bridge better? - as soon as I can...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I walk there from Warren St tube?

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

it's like 1 min walk from warren street station (walk down tottenham court road and it's on the side opposite)

when i looked at the board last weekend it said the quiz starts at 8:30.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=529425&y=182049&z=0&ar=Y

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

victoria is good you can just take the vicky line up to warren st.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Perfick.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm ill at the moment so trying to avoid the drinking of the booze

Derridadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

booze kills germs though

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Believe me it doesn't, I've tried

Derridadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

woo, i'm excited about this!

and i'm flying out of stansted the next morning at 6:30 am, which means we have to leave at some stupid middle of the night time, so i might be in a STAY UP ALL NIGHT HAVING FUN kind of mood.

either that, or in bed by 8pm.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

If you have to be at Stansted at 4.30, that presumably means leaving home by 3.30, if not earlier. You've no chance of a decent night's sleep before that, so stay in the Pint Pot until 1, go home and get stuff together. Have a nap on the plane.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin is wise. I'm trying to work out whether its sensible or rampantly unfair to make Jim get a decent night's sleep, mind.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm really looking forward to this, it feels like a long, long time since there was last any pint pot action. i hope barry's working up something special.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I fear the Pint Pot.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy Brithday Liz, have a good one.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, dude. I was just thinking about reviving this thread in shameless self-promotion, but lo! it is already done. I hope people are planning on cudgelling their brains and then their larynxes tomorrow. Win me stuff in the quiz!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I might pop along to the Mortimer Arms if I'm up to it, but I think I'll give the Pint Pot the body swerve. I've heard too many bad things about it.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

but if people here say bad things about it, it must be good right?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Well yes I did consider that viewpoint, but I'd quite like still to be alive at the end of the evening, and it is my understanding that when ILxors get up to karaoke there, the rest of ILx has to form a human shield to protect them from flying glasses, fists, bullets, teargas, etc.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

More like overaffectionate sparkly middleaged ladies. In the case of DC.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so petrified that co-workers may have the same idea of coming along. I will have to use all my cunning if this eventuality arises. If not I will be there at 17.01. Dappers?

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh, errr, if it's Liz's birthday, then who has to make *her* the cake? My cooking skillz leave a lot to be desired...

I would like to come but depends on what day I have to work. I have more bloody NOTATUMOUR tests on my lumps early on Friday morning so I won't be much help with the drinking, but karaoke... oh my.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh gosh, I might go to the bank after work, but will then toddle across Russell Sq and turn up at 17:30 or so.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm, overaffectionate sparkly middleaged ladies you say? That could persuade me, unless of course they physically resemble the stars of C4's Too Posh To Wash programme as opposed to, say, Helen Mirren or Charlotte Rampling or Juliet Stevenson or... (nurse, the bromide please, he's off again...)

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz what cake DO you like?

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Whatever, I'm not fussy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn xposts.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

ALL OF IT. Haha. Um, anything that people would like to construct is fine by me. Pref. no fruit though, I'm on a minimal vitamins diet.

the xpost will get us all in the end

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish Dr C could come to this. Then we could embark upon our individualistic interpretation of "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)," or won't they have that on the Pint Pot machine yet/ever?

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably not, sadly. Did it actually get anywhere in the charts?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Nope.

Also I suppose the only Annie the Pint Pot machine will have heard of is Annie "Beelezebozo" Lennox.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Weee! I'm well up for this, but haven't, alas, got anything special lined up. Barry fans may feel his repetoire is getting a bit stale. Any suggestions for me to practice tonight?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm on a minimal vitamins diet.

!!

probably not here, but i was once at the pewter pot in glasgow when there were people who brought THEIR OWN KARAOKE CDS WITH THEM. that's devotion.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

barry manilow?

xpost

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Surf's Up"?

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Barry should do "I've never been to me" or failing that, something by Prince.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahahh "dirty mind"!!

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

omg sgs! what was that song Barry was mime-crooning at club popular??

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

um, not Cher? I may've forgotten that particular croon...

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually some Beach Boys would be nice.

Get six of us up there.

Four can sing the song and do the harmonies.

One can sit in the sandbox behind them.

The sixth one relentlessly quizzes the other five what the lyrics mean.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Or the sixth one can threaten to sue the other five unless they tell him what the lyrics mean.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't remember but it was awesome. or was it fearsome..

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

bright eyes?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

YES!

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

> I hope people are planning on cudgelling their brains and then their larynxes tomorrow

unfortunately my brain feels pre-cudgelled, my eyes are on fire and my teeth hurt when i walk so i won't be there.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

ROWR! I'm /so/ there. Who wants to do a Jay-Z n' Beyonce duet?

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah, surely you of all people could just call me Mark?

Sigh.

"Bright Eyes" is a great idea!! Sorted! That and "Mandy".

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

is anyone else thinking of the obvious thing to "join in with" if Mr C does Mandy?

i'd like something new to sing too...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose it's just as well he's not doing "Can't Smile Without You" as he would have to bring another ILxor up on stage with him and then have to put his arm around their shoulders, kiss them, bring them fresh flowers every morning, etc.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Marcello, are you flirting?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Get six of us up there. Four can sing the song and do the harmonies.

this is bring back somewhat embarrassing ATP memories for me.

it's all but decided that i'm staying up all night. i'm also staying up for the debate tonight. so i might be a zombie tomorrow.

i'm also a little scared of the pint pot, since both times i've been there have ended up in strange happenings. i will try not to interact with strange american stalker girls or welsh canadians.

liz, glad you're off the vitamins. me too. are there any special treats that someone could buy for your consumption? you'd be scared if i tried to bake you anything, and don't know if you have a favorite sweet...

xpost-- eww. guys, i just had my lunch...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't look at me, I'm not doing any flirting. My sun does not rise in the West.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

No one else is allowed to kiss Barry at faps. Except possibly Sarah.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

We've shared a few tender moments, Matthew.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I would greatly prefer to share a few tender moments with some overaffectionate sparky middleaged ladies.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't look at me, I'm not doing any flirting. My sun does not rise in the West.
-- Marcello Carlin (marcellocarli...), October 13th, 2004 1:32 PM. (later)

but does your moon rise from the south?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

My door only swings one way.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

When does the pint pot shut? I have to go see a film at 9pm, I reckon I could come back in time to witness advanced ruin of others, whilst myself only being full of culture, although that depends on the film. Not sure what I'm going to see.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

someone mentioned 1am, which is a key element in my up-all-night mentalism.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

1 am, therefore I am.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Can anyone tell me what is on at the Other Cinema at 9.10 tomorrow night? For some reason I can only get ILX and gmail to work. I'd like to know exactly what I've said yes to. No links though, I won't be able to open them. Also, I have 6mins credit left. Hurry!

alix (alix), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Radio On (18)
Drama (1979) 104mins UK
Director: Christopher Petit
Starring: Paul Hollywood, David Beames, Andrew Byatt
Re-issue of Christopher Petit's 1980 feature film debut, a road movie in which a young man ventures from his home in London to Bristol to investigate his beloved brother's suicide.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

.. by the looks of things at any rate.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a great film. I saw it on Sunday. Better music than you'll get at the Pint Pot.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

where's the Other Cinema?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Probably less beige than the Pint Pot too.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure it'll put you right in the mood for watching CarsmileSteve doing Boom! Shake The Room.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

the drama's better at the pint pot

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

well, I'll come back to the PP and report back. GOing now, credit run out. bye

alix (alix), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Do we have to do Karaoke if we go to the Pint Pot? Or can we just point and laugh?

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What time will people be in the Mortimer Arms? What time is 'after work'? I will on the loose early doors, but have a darts match at 7.30 in the Lyceum. A swift couple of ales might help with the jelly arm later.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

you can just point and laugh. but i don't understand such behaviour

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Pointing and laughing is acceptable if done with love.

Pub quiz starts 8ish, I'll probs be there 6ish.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The Other Cinema is in London's busy Rupert Street. It used to be called the Metro.

Actually, thinking of Radio On, "Whole Wide World" by Wreckless Eric would be a good bet for karaoke, except of course the PP machine won't have it. Ditto "Sweet Gene Vincent" or even "Heroes" (in German).

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

starry said she's aiming for 5:01.. and liz from 5:30? i work next door too so prolly be there about 5:30 also (depending on what time i get in for work tomorrow)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

oh 6ish then

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

(I have freaking gigs on Monday and Tuesday! I have to save my voice! No drinking! Or caterwauling to Karaoke hitz!)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

(I have freaking gigs on Monday and Tuesday! I have to save my voice! No drinking! Or caterwauling to Karaoke hitz!)

i've always found drinking and karaokeing helps with my voice.. but then i sing with a RAWK VOICE

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(as if)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll probably get to the Mortimer Arms around 7 or 7.30. May not make it as far as karaoke though as I have to be up bright and early to go to SCHOOL urgh.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

If I make it at all (always in doubt these days) I should be in the pub around 5.30 or so.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.lorebrandcomics.com/images/lore-newtrend.gif

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Thursday morning: sorry people, but weather's shit, I feel like shit and the day's turning out to be shit in general so I won't be coming to this.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I randomly bumped into an old friend from university in the pub last night and will be meeting her for a drink straight after work, so will probably be in the pub about 7.30-8ish I reckon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

when will you be OUT of the pub?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. I made ginger cupcakes for the office, but the soggy weather made the lemon icing run on the way to work and now they are slightly dilipidated. Still tasty though.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

what is it with us going to the pint pot and inclement weather? does the mortimer do food? if so, i'll be there 5.15ish, if not i'll be stopping somewhere on the way up first for GRUB.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never been to the Pint Pot without first having to battle through a blizzard or flash flood. Its because GOD HATES KARAOKE, obviously.

Plague of locusts at the next KFAP I reckon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I am 99% sure I won't be there. I'm sorry, Liz, as I'd like to help celebrate your birthday, but I feel rubbish again today and haven't made it to work. Even in the very unlikely event of my feeling significantly better later, the fact that both pubs are round the corner from my work would seem too much of a risk. Have a great time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

woops i was cake making til 3:30am last night and i'm still at home just woke up. god, going to turn up to work so late. actually i better rush now. the cake is well nice though.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it was chucking it down at NYCKaraokeFAP back in April too - transatlantic conspiracy

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

**Thursday morning: sorry people, but weather's shit, I feel like shit and the day's turning out to be shit in general.**

Me too, except I WILL be there early doors.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope to be able to make it to the one in Oxford in November, though no doubt there'll be a snowstorm or something on the day. According to the paper yesterday we're going to get them early this winter.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, the weather's nasty. I don't particularly care although my hair is now poofy(er).

Snow in Ox would be pretty though, Marcello!

Ken made cake! Aw, bless yr wet cotton socks.

Carsmile, I'm hoping the Mortimer does food. Otherwise Harts the Grocer may receive a visit for surreptitious snackables.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, or head to the £5 Chinese all you can eat buffet!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes! Forgot about that. But it might impede pub quizzing.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:20 (twenty-one years ago)

not if we're at the pub at half 5 and the quiz starts at 8 innit? or are you saying you can eat chinese food for two hours solid?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, i have a need for dirty chinese buffet now, i can almost taste the sweet and sour sauce...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

which all you can eat are you going you guys? i recommend the Regents on Euston Road. (or is it that vegetarian place on goodge st that you guys are thinking of?)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i've just made it to work, obv. and nobody's missed me. and boss isn't in. get in!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

lunchtime in 10 minutes.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking of the Goodge St one. But it's not vegetarian, is it? If so, BOO!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I might see an early doors film, or I might just go straight to the pub or I might sing southern spirituals in the Americee Church over the road.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I am VERY EXCITED about tonight. I am wearing my new shirt to celebrate!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this like the one Bob Hoskins wears in the second half of Mona Lisa?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno if it's vegetarian or not .. it's the one with all red decor and does like chinese/thai stuff right? i went to a couple of other branches before (angel and euston road) and they were veggie... i went to the goodge one once too but i was TOO DRUNK TO REMEMBER whether i ate any meat or not.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The phrase "deep friend batter" has scarred me.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

literally

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Leave me alone, my brain has been melted by repeated listenings to "Peter Saw Another Man's Penis (And He Enjoyed That)".

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

is that horror porn movie?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i have some plastic ones from mcdonald's

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, Ken, Ken, how could you forget my trusty utility knife? Always lurking in the handbag for moments such as this. Also opening wine al fresco.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 14 October 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Kennification.

the bellefox, Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah! woot! i also dropped the cake on the floor this morning on the rush to work - but luckily it was in a bag and it landed perfectly flat and so the cake is OK!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i just smelled it just now omg it smells so good

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to go out with work for a couple of hours first, but I should be along to the Mortimer circa 9ish.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Hrrrmmm. Do you think it will piss down with rain again? I wonder if I can walk to Goodge Street from here or if I should take a bus or what. I don't get out of work until 6.30 today, so I might miss the Chineseing. Oh no.

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

So where/when are you all getting your dosage of umami*? I might put in one of my patented "once every 6 months" appearances...

*New word for the day

Simon (flameproof) (Flameproof), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

umami is half of my new band's name!

(i should be out of work about 6 today)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

How come, did you get the sack for sneaking in late?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

So er, say I don't come along to the Chinese buffet, if I get to the Mortimer at 6ish will I be drinking on my own?

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

they couldn't afford to pay me all the hours i work.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

you should bring a can of tennants super and join us at the chinese place.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

yeuchh! tennants super. ribena plus meths.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

trampaigne supernova

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone know the name of this Chinese?

Simon (flameproof) (Flameproof), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Thai Cult Food?

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

are we going to this mysterious non-veggie place? only ed. seems to know about it

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going clothes shopping in about ten mins, and will be along for a short while after that. Obviously it depends how successful shopping is as to when I'll arrive at the pub... but I won't be having food, and will probably be at the Mortimer at 6ish.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(i'm sure all these pathetic food plans will come to nought and we'll just sit bouzing as per ;))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

my cake can actually feed 5 people

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

You might as well go to McDonald's next to Warren Mitchell tube and have done with it.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

they sell cakes now?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

They sell muffins

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

only at breakfast time

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What? Food?! I have only just got back in the office and am confused as to what is going on?!

NB I can practically see the Mortimer from my office...

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

so what's going on what's the plan?

i can get out of this place around 6, or just before

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i leave now, pub soon.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Er well I can leave any time from now but don't want to sit by myself so can play Scrabble til 6 or something hehh hehehehe :) Not v hungry as had falafel at you-loo bar at luncheon but, yer ken, don't yer.

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I'm going straight to the pub and will be there 6.30ish. Look out for me, I'll have a lost look on my face...

Simon (flameproof) (Flameproof), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, turning up near-sober to the pint pot at 11pm is definitely a recipe for confusion. i had no idea it was like that these days.

sorry for not saying happy birthday properly liz, hope you had a great day.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 October 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

The Pint Pot really IS the worst pub in London these days isn't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 October 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

32948209 people* didn't think so!

*the approximate number of people in that pub

i remember it being busy, but i don't remember it ever being THAT BUSY.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently the square tavern now does karaoke on weds, i'm gonna check it out soon. it being obscurely placed hopefully means less crowds. and it being pretty big.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like I could make a joke using TITPINT here, but I'm not sure what.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 15 October 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Mortimer is a decent boozer though. Did anyone venture into the front room? It appeared to be entirely full of 18 year old students getting to know one another. Awww.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

so that's where you were before the quiz!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey dudes, sorry for bailing on the Piss Pot immediately but it was SO DISGUSTINGLY HORRIBLE I just couldn't take it, despite EVEN! the offer of a NipperPint! I blame the feast of StudentReturn, myself. Had grebt fun in the Morty tho and v nice to meet Simon flameproof too. Also Ed's friend Simon Cowell.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to say, you were right behind us, then *poof*.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't miss anything then, apropos the Pint Pot.

The Square Tavern? Ugh. Right in the middle of Fort Apache country (Drummond Street, Somers Town, Regent's Park estate, all those to be mugged queue up on the left).

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 15 October 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Christ that was horrible - I know it's near the beginning of term etc etc but even if there had been half as many people in the Pint Pot, it'd still have been too many. Liz and Pete did get to sing before sgs and I left, though - did anyone take my songs later on?

And ahem, no mention of who won the pub quiz??

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i have worked on hampstead road for 2 years and have never once been mugged. i even queued on the cash machine several times and waved my money and juggled with 3 iPods to try and lure them, but I guess I'm too hard for them to mug me.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

YMOF turned up? woah

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

god my cake was so good.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It does help to have that "DON'T TRY IT" aura about you in dodgy areas of the capital.

This'll be like that Donal McIntyre off the telly wandering around Coldharbour Lane at 3 in the morning brandishing laptops and hi-fis with flashing neon signs saying: "PLEASE MUG ME."

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 15 October 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

God Ken's cake was so good.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

the low point of that particular hampstead road adventure was that i dropped one of the ipods. but one helpful local helped me fix the ipod and gave me £5 to buy a pint to help get over the trauma.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

matt bottled mandy, as it were. lose yourself came on, but it seemed that someone else requested it, not mark, but whoever it was didn't turn up, and pete and steve chated "choke, choke" over the top. which was cool. steve did "god save the queen", too, didn't he?

i actually thought the pint pot wasn't *that* bad. the bottle of wine i bought being under 6 quid helped, i guess, as did mark's rendition of bohemian rhapsody.

and i've finally been to the troy club, too!

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

They have a photo of Suzy on the wall in the Troy Club!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

What is The Troy Club?!

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been to the troy club!!! once!! to buy wine!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The first rule of Troy Club etc etc

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes Barry?

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 15 October 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

NO SMOKING

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 15 October 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I was there two weeks ago on Friday - bad idea!

Dataismus (Dada), Friday, 15 October 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It was good to see

1. JtN, & his special friend

2. Archel

3. Apps, in the distance

4. Mr. Farrell

5. Colette, in the street

and also, others.

the bellefox, Friday, 15 October 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

well fuck you too.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

You guys missed out on the Troy Club. I threatened to fall asleep repeatedly (Colette kept watch), scared Col with my zombie impersonations and came up with a brilliant new username that I subsequetly forgot (Toby, help!). Good times.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't meet the pinefox, but when he walked out a long mystery wind followed in his wake.

PS "Barry, nice shirt".

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i was quite drunk by the time barima, sorry.

i also forgot about the bon jovi singalong! and the guy doing "i believe in a thing called love" with a very impressive falsetto. the more i think about the pint pot the better it seems.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 October 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The trick was that there were two guys on "I believe in a thing called love". I also cannot remember the username, and I have less excuse.

Starry: The Troy Club is upstairs from The Spanish Bar, which looks almost tacky in comparison.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 16 October 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh hell, remember The Makeout Club at the Troy Club? Plus, when I stepped in there, I felt like I'd actually stepped back in time.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Saturday, 16 October 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

did you make out?

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 16 October 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette declared that Toby and I should make out. I told Colette I'd rather make out with Toby than her. Apparently, she believed me.

In the end we all settled for heckling a rather horny couple at the bar, who I've subsequently dubbed the Makeout Club.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Saturday, 16 October 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Why, do you want in?

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Saturday, 16 October 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to investigate this here Troy Club.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm banned from the Troy Club. :-(

Because someone *else* threw my shoes across the room.

Sorry I bailed so early, I am starting to believe this "hypoglycemic" rumour, because I felt like I was going to glass someone if I didn't get to eat. Mmmmm, dosas.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Dudes, it was a fun evening, possibly including the horror that is turning up to the Pint Pot around 10:30. Arrgh. It sounds like people had fun, but next time I should make more effort to actually have some dinner at some point rather than drinking solidly from half past work to midnight.

D! E! M! O! N! B! U! N! N! Y! C! A! K! E!

In other news, YMOF is still an utter madman.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I've been to the Troy Club then, "hurrah", o, I mean, NOT! I didn't know it had a name apart from "THE HORROR".

Starry (hello chickens), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Those aren't my shoes! You're looking for some other barefoot person!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette declared that Toby and I should make out. I told Colette I'd rather make out with Toby than her. Apparently, she believed me.

I so don't remember this! Should I be insulted?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

You should be complimented - being more desirable than Colette is clearly high praise.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree - but not *sincere* praise, it would seem.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's important that we don't let the golden light of fond recollection linger too long on the Pint Pot: it was actually pretty terrible (but got better after midnight). Angels followed by Wonderwall, anyone?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

would've been alright if any of the buggers could sing/use a mic...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You want the moon on a stick.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

mmm, sticky moon

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yes let's talk more about the mighty pwning that went on in the quiz instead! Sorry I left before I could use my share of the winnings in the accepted way for buying more drinks... but I can't remember knowing many answers except the Blazin' Squad one, so maybe I didn't really earn it anyway.

I had a very good time btw, hope the birthday girl did too.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It is the law that every time ILX enters a pub quiz, one of our teams must win first prize.

Personally, my team was poor, but I was just happy we overhauled Ken.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I hadn't just typed 'pwning'. Never type something you can't pronounce, is my internet rule.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The corrent pronunciation of 'pwning' = 'owning', in a Cartman voice

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

jim and i nearly got YMOF killed that night, as well. we went back to my place, cleaned up and grabbed suitcases, and took him in our minicab to the airport.

he fell asleep promptly, and SO DID THE DRIVER! he was swerving all over the road, and kept veering into other lanes. we were in the middle of the motorway in the middle of nowhere in the middle of a rainy night, so we didn't have him just stop, but it was so fucking scary. i actually thought we were going to crash. we ended up calling the police at the other end, with jim (normally terribly mellow) shouting at this guy, and the driver shouting abuse at all of us. andrew slept through the whole thing. awww.

nice start to a holiday. at least it got better from there.

i'm glad i got there in time to see liz, it was fun to sing along with all the people that sucked at the pint pot.

sleep now.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 18 October 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

fucking hell, that sounds terrifying!

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I started a thread here about it, but should have realised that it would have sank by the time Colette came back.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)
