Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

TBA

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Shhhh!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd definitely turn up if you could get Terry Hall to DJ! He's big on Jake Thackeray, you know.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha back when there was a difference between Jimmy Greaves and Morrissey!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Certainly agree with the comments on Charles Aznavour.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

why do you guys keep having this when i'm out of the country?! boo, i have to miss another one, as i'll be staying in a villa in spain with my friends. but i'm sure poptimism would be more fun.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 16 May 2005 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to work out why the keep doing it while I'M out of the country. I one of the resident DJ's!

Still, should be good - mainly because I'm not there.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

for your e-flyering plaisir

alang, Monday, 16 May 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, the fear, oh god, the £5 wine, oh god, are we really going to do this again?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Your taste or your liver: which will blink first?

Tom (Groke), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm, raisins.

I'm not worried about my Taste. I have 50 more copies under the bed!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Grr Thursdays - I hope I'll be able to come . . . it was awfully good fun last time.

Will there be badges?

Johnney B, Monday, 16 May 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

it's me birthday the next day you know

ken c (ken c), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to have to be good for this Poptimism but I'm booking the day after the July one off work, and maybe August as well. Consider normal service resumed.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Will there be badgers?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't know. I might bring the Freaky Trigger owl though if there's a demand for him.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Good God, not badgers, the place would stink to fuck yeuck!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

That'll be a hoot.

(see what I dun there?)

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Will this be before the first DJ sett?

(HYUK HYUK PLAYING WITH WORDS YOU SEE IS FUNNY)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a shame I no longer have access to all the stuffed animals, but Joe kept custody in the divorce. (Can one sue an ex partner to have access to the stuffed animals?)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd definitely turn up if you could get Terry Hall to DJ! He's big on Jake Thackeray, you know.

Well that makes two of us....... who are big on Jake Thackray I mean

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The day after my birthday! (I think a FAP on the 8th would therefore be a mistake, but maybe the 7th, to be discussed at some point with someone whose birthday is on that date...) I'll be there, of course.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(very nice flyer)

willem (willem), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think we had a Carsmile Meg setlist :-(

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Tricky 'Black Steel', Marion 'Time' and the new Nine Inch Nails (cut short because the CD skipped) are the only tracks I can remember Meg playing.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That will keep me going. I don't know Marion though.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

The bargain basement of MVE certainly does.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Meg played three tracks by acts I'd seen live in 1977 - Ramones, Iggy Pop and T. Rex, I believe they were.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it's me birthday the next day you know

that you have two birthdays, two days apart?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

There is no way on god's green earth I shall be drinking that sodding Blossom Hill. There's a whole new world of £2.99 doubles ruin yet to strike. Heigh ho.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

so just to recap - they sell BOTTLES of Blossom Hill for £5? bloody crikey...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. That is the only thing one can remember when you wake up with HEAD OF DEATH next morning.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The sincerest form of flattery?

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

!!!

Red Riding Kylie and everything!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

worlwide domination of poptimism! hurrah...

just since i'm putting a load of stuff in my diary, have other dates been set? when should i next plan on leaving the country?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

After this one it's every first Thursday until November at least i.e.

7th July
4th August
1st September
6th October
3rd November

There have also been discussions of a Secret Spin-Off Event, but discussions is all they are so far.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like secret events. I really don't.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

4th August

I am on holiday the first week in August. Poptimism HERE I COME! (this may take some planning and failing and replanning like all my vaunted trips to London, but it's soon enough after I get paid for me to have money...I might be at Benicassim if other people who said they would come with me actually agree to come with me, but otherwise this could be a goer)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate you will like this one I promise!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 19 May 2005 06:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't you copyright "Poptimism" then? Fool of fools!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 19 May 2005 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

(as I should have done with GUILTY PLEASURES™)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 19 May 2005 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

August will be JOY.

spontine (cis), Thursday, 19 May 2005 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Not for me it won't, but you enjoy yourselves.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 19 May 2005 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks, i think I will.

spontine (cis), Thursday, 19 May 2005 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate secret events too, 'cos they're SECRET, and nobody tells me secrets.

(and besides, exclusive events goes against the whole inclusivity vibe, doesn't it?)

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Thursday, 19 May 2005 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I will also be out of the country for this one too :(
July 7 WOO!

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 19 May 2005 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

OK the term "secret" here means "we can't tell you about it cos we haven't booked anywhere or even agreed to do it yet". When this situation changes it will no longer be "secret" it will become "public".

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 19 May 2005 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

And no it isn't Club Popular @ Glastonbury (unfortunately).

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 19 May 2005 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Poptimism, ARE YOU ALIVE?!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 19 May 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I have an endless fear of exclusion. Things which are secret usually mean that I can't go. Even if it is exclusive and I *am* invited, then it's the Groucho Marx dilemma - if I'm invited it can't be that great anyway. Sigh.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 19 May 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Eep! I've just had a secret communique from The Spy asking if I'm DJ-ing at this.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Well . . . are you?

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

In theory you should have had a real actual invite to DJ at it by now. If you don't want to though you can do it another time!

Hurrah for our organisation skills, again, sigh. :(

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, actually, technically it was an invite from The Spy asking me if I *would* DJ. Hard to tell since the invite was in Belgian. ;-)

Is it this one? I would love to do it if it is! Bubblegum and shoegazing ready to go! :-)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

hurrah, well done us for almost organising something ;)

thanks kate, bubblegum and shoegazing ahoy then :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Mind you, you haven't read my rider yet. I insist on having 2 little blond Tory teenage dancing boys and a several bottles of pink wine backstage. ;-)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, I will need to speak to you about those Tories at some point (seriously).

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I had forgotten all about this! Nick of time...etc.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Sunday, 5 June 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, this is in four days time, cor blimey.

There is exciting Poptimism news afoot, I need to talk to Steve about it though.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 5 June 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't tell you how excited the exciting Poptimism news made me when I heard it on Friday. I'm worried I might wake up in the morning and find it all to be a cruel joke.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

what is the news?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Trife is DJing again.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Never mind that, what's the exciting news? Chortle.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Sunday, 5 June 2005 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I can see why it would be especially exciting for you Matt.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 5 June 2005 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

OK the BIG NEWS is that we have been asked to do FRIDAYS in future, yes FRIDAYS that day which is NOT A SCHOOL NIGHT when people come out and play and dance and drink anyway hurrah! More news on this and dates etc. as we hear it.

This week's Poptimism is still THIS THURSDAY though.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh thank god for that, the Friday after the election night was hellish. Three hours sleep and a lot of Blossom Hill do not make Liz a happy girl.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

That is good news - except I have 23 days of leave to get through by the end of September, so have been booking post-ClubFT/poptimism Fridays off anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear, I'll have to find another excuse not to go. Er...oh yes, there are bouncers! Nasty sweaty blokey boozy bouncers who would let in Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger rather than me! Right! Can't make it! Sorry!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I think everyone should work under the assumption that the Pope will indeed be attending Pop(e)timism this Thursday.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, The Spy and I blagged our way into the Polar Bear after hours this weekend by claiming "He does a club here on Thursday! I'm DJ-ing at it! We're scouting the place out!" etc.

And discovered a full-on Dante's Inferno gay disco with drag queens giving out crisps and beautiful boys making out all over the dance floor. Oh my. Can we have some more of that at Poptimism, please?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Poptimism in 'too straight' music policy shockah.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

How about Pete and me giving out pork scratchings?

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but only if you wear pink paisley leisure suits and giant blonde sparkly quoiffs!

Unfortunately they'd sold out of pink wine. Or maybe The Spy was trying to keep me reasonably sober so I wouldn't go letch on the gay boys. ;-)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it time you started supplying your own gay boys, K?

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and this is good news, seeing as it frees up my Thursday nights for salsa freestyling up the road.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that supposed to mean?

x-post

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

B! I wanna salsa with you!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Free CD for the first 20 or so punters - 12 tracks of grebt pop.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Poptimism in 'too straight' music policy shockah.
-- Sociah T Azzahole (stevem7...), June 6th, 2005 1:01 PM. (blueski) (later)

whatever, steve.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

that was from the first ever poptimism, kate!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Gross.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Never have I wanted to abuse my eerie mod powers more than right now.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

that night sounds much like the old Shinky Shonky when it was there. They moved to saturday nights i think. i liked the free mini-milks they handed out. and the rude badges

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

B! I wanna salsa with you!

Nobody puts Mari in a corner! Let's do it!

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

This I gotta see.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It's tomorrow!

(Not the salsa-off)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

(Oh, just you wait)

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it's tonight!

i get the feeling it's going to be a rather intimate gathering this evening, a lot of the stalwarts appear to be crying of (for a variety of reasonable reasons)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Nor!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This means everyone must drink more.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah, it's all my fault. Everyone hates me, etc. blah blah. [/marcello]

I've been depressed all week, maybe I should just skip it. :-(

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

No!!!

I'm looking forward to your set! Bubblegum roXoR!

Also the # of people we'll get tonight will be the same as on an average-to-good night in the chapel I'm guessing, so "intimate" is relative here.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

tom is, of course right. i think back to parker place (not to mention LATRINOS) and think how far we've come...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I'm just having one of those weeks when everything goes wrong. :-(

Bubblegum will probably cheer me up, though. I should probably watch how much I drink or I'll end up in a sodden mess and won't be able to find the decks let alone use them. Don't have enough money for more than one bottle of pink whine anyway.

Or, rather, anyone who sees me, just give me a hug. Lord knows I need it at the mo'.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Why not just leave flyers for the weekend gays with the bar staff or something? You can raise the attendance and make Kate happy in one fell swoop.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey dudes, anyone fancy dinner in Chinatown beforehand? Robster & I were planning on a big old bowl of noodles or something as stomach lining for the old vino collapso.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

No money. :-(

Will probably just get a pastie on the way over or something.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to grab a burger when Steve plays "Make It Reggae", as per usual :)

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

kate i think i scared ppl off too :-( with the threat of too much happy dancing music. well my idea of happy dancing music

on the other hand small crowd = i'll play what i bloody well like then.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Exactly, hurrah!

Anyway the important point is that all the people who DO come are going to have a totally grebt time.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there, as usual. I did invite my new girlfriend (some of you met her on Monday) along, but a bunch of mentalists playing loud pop music in a smoky pub basement isn't quite her idea of fun. Tomorrow we are going to the opera together!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

What if we played "Madame Butterfly" by Malcolm McLaren??

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Flight of the Bumblebee by The Muppets?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Also yay Martin's new girlfriend!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to come out tonight. Sadly I think the gigantic pile of work on my desk might have other ideas... Roll on Friday Poptimism.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, dude, I can wait.

Gigantic Pile of Work (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I can actually afford it this month, but I need to tell my flatmates that I am moving out. (I am dreading this)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno if i can make it but i might. when carsmile said intimate i thought he meant loads of snogging, and i was like, yay, deffo coming then. it'll depend on how good i am in getting all my work done.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

She's more of a jazz fan, generally - lots of old Billie Holiday records would be best. That would fit with the pop-dancey vibe, right? Shall I tell her you've promised?

Also, Anna, dammit: too short notice! You know what I mean! (I'll be glad to see you anyway, obv.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I meant I couldn't come because I have to tell my flatmates I am moving out. One month...

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Just leave a note on the fridge.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Leave a note!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

get your lawyer to send a fax. i thought this was standard.

N_RQ, Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

lots of old Billie Holiday records would be best

we could play Bille Piper and then Holiday Rap - would that do?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Text them after a courage-giving swig of Blossom Hill!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

leave a turd on their doorstep.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Or a video cassette! "By the time you watch this, I will be gone gone gone." Are you giving them full notice (whatever that is in London), or are you dropping them in it a bit?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i think dissensus whould start a rival night (maybe at the hippodrome). thursdays could see a regular soundclash; there could be rucks in leicester square. plus, the argument could be won where it matters: on the streets, among the kids.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

On the thread for the Dissensus club night some of us could talk about how we weren't going to go to it.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 9 June 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Kids. I'm two thirds of the way through the gigantic pile. If it carries on like this I might be done by midnight.

Does anyone want to offer me a job? I'll do anything.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 9 June 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

do mine if you like, i'll be on-call 24hrs (plus 12hr per day on-site) for two weeks in a couple of week's time!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

We *think* the Fridays will be a later time in the month, I'd hate there to be a club-off.

It was bijou, but it was fun. It could easily have just been people sitting around miserably but the mystical powers of pop and blossom hill made sure that everyone who was there ended up on the dancefloor. So I ended up really enjoying it. It gladdened my heart when the floor filled up for Cobrastyle.

Special thanks to Alan and Kate. And big shouts out to Abby, WBS, and anyone else who came a long way to a quiet night. Though not as long a way as Pete, who came from 'Nam.

We even broke even.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

tom, would you like your share of the profits, or should i just buy you a half tonight?

as tom says thanks to those of you who did make it, big push for the first friday one starting, oh later today when i've booked it :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I spent my profits on a third of a tube fare home!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

That giveaway CD in full:

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey, what a hangover I have. I think Alan and I broke Poptimism.
:-(

Sucks to all of you who didn't make it! Those of us who had what little we had, had a great time! The first (and possibly only) playing of Can at Freaky Trigger, hah! Lots of poppy dronerock and droney bubblegum. The only Madonna dronerock song ever. (Plus The Spy pretending to be Austin Powers on the dancefloor, YES BABY!!!)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Eeep, got cut off there and had to take a phone call with someone OFFERING ME A JOB!!! hurrah! Well, no, not really, but wanting me to come in for a proper interview, which I haven't done in ages.

Errr... what else happened last night? I've no idea, I was wrecked by my second DJ set. One of the CD drives didn't work so I couldn't play half the songs I wanted to, so I apologise for the schitzophrenic nature of my set, it really just was "whatever will work in the CD player".

I think the dronepop set actually worked better, at least it had more people coming up to me asking "what WERE those last three songs you played?" (Probably Medicine, an obscure 60s bubblegarage band called The Fenwyck, and Capitol K)

Did anyone take pictures? (Please lord, no) Well, apart from The Spy but those are pretty much blackmail material.

Our appeal is getting more selective. That's all.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

things i realised: i will play 16 tonnes of hardware each and every time i get a chance to dj until absolutely everyone is dancing to it. that princess superstar song sounds great loud in a club.

did steve play Make it Reggae?

i have forgotten about half of what i played in the end

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww, no pics?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Starry was wielding a cameraphone for some of it.

I had a grebt night. More Reggae for Kids pls.

robster (robster), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the Capitol K one.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

And Alan's seamless mixing of Chicks On Speed with Orbital, arf.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to decide if I'm too hungover to go out tonight. Bah.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

My (only very slight) hangover has abated due to the power of fish and chips.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but I had a whole nother more bottle of wine than you!

(I am so not making sense.)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Errr... what else happened last night? I've no idea, I was wrecked by my second DJ set. One of the CD drives didn't work so I couldn't play half the songs I wanted to, so I apologise for the schitzophrenic nature of my set, it really just was "whatever will work in the CD player".

SO MUCH EMPATHY with every one of those points: you are me, last month!

sorry I couldn't make it :(

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I was a bit annoyed the left-hand drive was wonky again, it always seems to hit the guests worst. We will make sure future guests are forewarned and forearmed.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I was forewarned and forearmed! I brought plenty of non-CDR CDs! But half of *them* wouldn't even work in it! The first CD I played (Duran Duran) - it played for exactly 30 seconds and sputtered out. So blame Nick Rhodes.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i tried to remember what i played, but got stuck

1
White Town / Puff Daddy bootleg
MIA - Bucky Done Gone
Princess Superstar - Coochy Coo
Hayseed Dixie - Walk This Way
Cut Copy - Future
krush - house arrest
er something else??
mannionmix Chicks on Speed Wordy Rapping Hood into Orbital You Lot

2
girls aloud - Here we go
vitalic / khia bootleg
armin van buuren - the longest day
altern8 - activ8
taffy - i love my radio
bodies w/o organs - 16 tonnes of hardware
erm
no idea - too much cooking lager

vanilla ninja miss out AGANE. needs more chart pop

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile played something I really liked which he said was a Eurovision thing (I think). Alas it was not 'Grandma Bangs The Drums', but does he remember the exact details?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

it's another one of the trawl tracks which i am assuming is eurovision (might not be) Romeo by Shebang (it says here). they appear to:

a. be swedish
b. have just released a cover of kids in america...

http://www.shebangonline.com/

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Geez Louise, did I wake up early today.

BARMS, Friday, 10 June 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

FRIDAYS ARE NOW BOOKED TIL XMAS!!!

first one 15 July (they are almost all 3rd fridays i think) the night before i fly to barcelona so i will have to try to avoid too much ruin.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Pros: Removal of early start the next day increases that chances of me making it/making a weekend of it.

Cons: Getting to the airport on a Friday evening will be an absolute bastard. Oh for a decent public transport system.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

the first friday poptimism, and I'm bloomin working the next day!

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)
