SPECULATE!!!

Baros to Villa
Keane stays at Spurs.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Spurs linked with Jenas and Zenden.

Gerrard to AC Milan?? Surely, they couldn't afford him?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

If they win the Champions League they'll be able to afford him, but then if they win the Champions League do they really need him?

$V£N! (blueski), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Essien to Man Utd.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Spurs linked with people who play football shocker. Routledge to Spurs to replace Simon Davies, hopefully Malbranque too. And Figo, obviously ;)

Baros can do better than Villa, surely? I reckon we've seen the last of him in the Premiership. Gashley Cole to Real, Antii Niemi to Man Utd... and I really want Andy Johnson to stay at Palace.

Bit of a clear-out at Chelsea I reckon. Scott Parker to Everton, Geremi back to Middlesbrough and someone like West Brom to waste a load of money loaning Carlton Cole for the season.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Figo to Man Utd (Quieroz connection?).

Shevchenko to Chelsea for £60m+

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

robbie keane to newcastle?

charltonlido (gareth), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Carlton Cole should go and play for QPR or West Ham (if they don't go up), I reckon he'd really get his confidence up playing in the Championship for a season.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

adriano to chelsea?

charltonlido (gareth), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe a Keane for Jenas swap deal.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I reckon the Adriano stuff is a bluff by Mourinho, and they'll get AC's star striker instead.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Harry Redknapp back in the Prem by Christmas.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Baros will go to Valencia, hopefully Aimar will go in the opposite direction.

and please Rafa - just say no to Crouch.

dream on Jel - there's no way Souness will sign Keane

Porkpie (porkpie), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Will Charlton ever sign a striker?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Alexis Smertin to Pompey [2 Million]
Forsell to Pompey [Season Loan]
Steve Sidwell [Reading] to Pompey
Sebastian Grax [Monaco] to Pompey

Also: Portsmouth FC Rumour Mill Blog

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Forsell would be a good signing for Pompey. What happened to to that striker who was injured for ages?

I don't want Robbie to go to Newcastle, I don't particularly rate Jenas anyhow.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Todorov, is he recovered?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

some talk of Pompey for Crouch Again

after all Arry Redknob said in March 2002 if he was a premier league manager he would buy Crouch. Well fast forward to 2005 Crouch is back in the 2nd tier of English football.

Pompey have 4 Million of Yak money + 2 Million for Amdy Faye + 2 Million for Quashie + money saved on players wages that have been released since Arry left + money from another season in the premier + 3 Million not spent on Carrick = Considerable transfer funds.

Todorov is slowly coming back to fitness, played a few games in the reserves recently.

Apparently 6 or 7 new players will be coming to Pompey in the Summer.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

(can we have a convention where people put real transfers in bold, when they happen? I get kinda confused reading this)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Will Liverpool be able to sign someone properly good if they win the CL?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Transfer Rumours - newsnow newsfeed
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/newsfeed/?name=Transfer+News+%26+Rumours

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 22 May 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, "+ 3 Million not spent on Carrick..." is the world's lamest accountancy!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 22 May 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ha it's obvious you have not studied economics Mr Skidmore ! - remember the concept of economic opportunity cost.

Mr Carrick turned Pompey down, so that 3 Million remains in the bank account. However Pompey did sign A. Cisse from Birmingham for 300 K.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Sunday, 22 May 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Real Madrid for £50 million, according to his agent...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 22 May 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Strachan to Celtic as manager. End to Bellamy transfer talk as Strachan hates him...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 22 May 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Shevchenko, Van Bommel and Cafu to Manchester City.
Can you believe, back in the real world, that Zenden is only 28? He's been linked with City, by the way, along with that talented waster Laurent Robert. Can't see Pearce putting up with him for long. Most credible City rumour concerns a Tranmere full back called Ryan someone.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Sunday, 22 May 2005 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Kerlon to Spurs!!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, now you're just being silly. I don't really expect any big name signings at Spurs this summer. The Arnesen policy seems to be to hoover up every talented young player in the country - which is fine by me, I'm quite excited by the likes of Dawson, Huddlestone, Reid etc. A bit more experience would be nice though. Are Paul Stalteri and Teemu Tainio any good?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Do better than Villa?

They're a young bunch of lads, you know.

And they've all promised to put their child tax credits in the transfer kitty.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 23 May 2005 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm actually hoping Strachan doesn't 'transfer' to Celtic because I enjoy him so much as a pundit.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 23 May 2005 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yopu know Jason Koumas has been released? That could be interesting for someone (Pompey?)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 23 May 2005 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

True, Steve, but Martin O'neill will be an even better pundit than Strachan was.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 23 May 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty certain that when MON says he'll be having a year away that's exactly what it'll be. I did hear that he wanted it to be this season he had off and the Celtic board begged him to stay one more year, which with his wife's illness was a little insensitive but hey. He won't be punditting anyway, or at least not many times at all.

ceebee, Monday, 23 May 2005 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Why has Jason Kuomas been released?

I quite like spurs. Has anyone actually signed anyone yet?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 23 May 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

has Yakubu gone to Boro?

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 23 May 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Koumas was released as he is a feckless waster

Yakubu is a done deal but not til June the 1st or summat

ceebee, Monday, 23 May 2005 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a list of stuff here, seemingly:

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 23 May 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

so ricketts has gone to wolves permanently!

jon otsemobor! id forgotten he was at liverpool. well, i guess he's not now

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 23 May 2005 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Are Paul Stalteri and Teemu Tainio any good?

Paul's pretty good. Gets a good workout whenever he plays for Canada. Don't know the other guy.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 23 May 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Forsell will stay at Chelsea next year for sure. They need him, even if they sign another striker. I think Kezmanoffside will leave.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 23 May 2005 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Will they get rid of Drogba, though? I personally reckon they'll give him another season to prove himself.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 23 May 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Van Bommell Went to Barcelona already.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 23 May 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Kiki Musampa going to stay at Man City? He's kinda cool.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 23 May 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Spurs are like the really nice girl who just can't get a sexy boyfriend. She flutters and flirts, and sometimes get talking, but they never go home together.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 23 May 2005 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

To continue your Holloway-esque theme...

Manchester City are like a man who dresses to impress, but actually drives a clapped out C-reg Renault 5 and is up to his eyes in debt.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 23 May 2005 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Musampa's 'in talks' apparently. I guess he isn't going to come cheap, but then presumably they will come to some sort of arrangement, given that he's just got (back?) into the Dutch squad, and would appear to be happy.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 23 May 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Bolton Wanderers are like that bloke who waits for any old girl to fall out with her husband before making a move. True, she may have been around the block a few too many times, but at least you know she's desperate enough to go for you. (Sorry)

Ian Holloway (Matt DC), Monday, 23 May 2005 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

home of the great dioufy!

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 23 May 2005 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a great way to do clubs. More please!

Liverpool - she used to be great, can occasionally flash a winning smile and with a lot of make-up, still looks a stunner, but finds it harder and harder to keep up these days.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 23 May 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Chelsea-Victoria Beckham, you always wonder how bad they would look without the money.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 23 May 2005 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Arsenal - the fragile French starlet, all fur coat...

AdrianB (AdrianB), Monday, 23 May 2005 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Man Utd - she used to be the Alpha Female, now increasingly usurped by the young pretender, and annoyed by it, and plotting return to prominence.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Monday, 23 May 2005 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Crystal Palace - puts up a bit of a fight, but still goes down every time.

Football haters, all your worst preconceptions are here... (Matt DC), Monday, 23 May 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Spain = a lithe and sensual beauty, but a tease who, ahem, doesn't deliver the goods.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Man Utd - she used to be the Alpha Female, now increasingly usurped by the young pretender, and annoyed by it, and plotting return to prominence.
-- AdrianB (spamallowed200...), May 23rd, 2005 10:24 PM. (later)

Or, she used to be the Alpha Female, but now she's been forced into an arranged marriage with a man who's going to pimp her out, sell all the family silver, and then do a runner leaving her with all his gambling debts.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ireland-a struggling woman, managed by Brian Kerr.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Liverpool-a woman who is in the champions league final

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Liverpool - a woman who has been lording it over her older sister ever since they were teenagers, but - just as sis gets her life together, sorts out her money worries and finds a fella she likes who won't knock her around like the others - she wins the lottery. Tomorrow night we find out whether it's only five numbers and the bonus ball.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Man Utd - controlled by a great big cunt.

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

AFC Wimbledon - the kid at school pushed down three years, where he bullies and dominates all his classmates, who bitch about him behind his back. Enjoys his reign of terror but still casts wistful glances up to his former heights.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, as per this thread, we've just re-signed our New Zealand international for next season, which was somewhat of a surprise.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Jon Macken to Palace apparently. Well, having slipped down the striking pecking order behind David James, he could hardly stay.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Leaving Celtic:
Mad Martin to no-one
Bellamy to Villa
Balde to Boro
Thompson to ??? (Bolton maybe?)
Lennon to Bolton
Petrov to Everton
McNamara to Sunderland
Sylla, Hedman, Henchoz, Fernandez to anyone stupid enough to take them

Joining Celtic
No-one :-(
(well maybe wee Gogs and some dodgy expensive loan signings)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

You forgot Douglas to Leicester, Lambert to Livingston, Valgaeren to the scrapheap.

Team next year = Sutton, Hartson, kids + dodgy loan signings.

Yet season ticket prices are up. They are lucky they are paid for by such blindly faithful idiots dedicated fans.

Useless fact for the day, Celtic have never signed anyone on a Bosman. Ever.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh aye, them too.

Celtic haven't paid more than £1M for a player since 2nd August 2001 (Sylla & Harton) despite record turnover 4 years running.

(I thought Varga was a Bosman following a loan deal?)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Magnus Hedman, how does £100 a week and a part share on a sponsored Lada sound to move to Norbiton?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Predictions for the era of Strachan at Celtic? Other than more entertaining post match interviews, obviously.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I forgot about him, we just hung onto him on loan until he was out of contract didn't we? Cheapskates? Celtic? Still, one slightly erratic centre half in the ten years since the Bosman ruling isn't exactly taking advantage. Other potential Bosman in Henchoz, but I may stuff my season ticket up Brian Quinn's arse if that goes to a permanent deal.

(Mark, you just want to perve at his wife, don't you?)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I think he's a great keeper, and by god we need one. Who's his wife?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

*googles*

OH.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Mrs Magnus Hedman...
A picture of a lady in some kind of weird fishing trouble.

(xpost)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

(does that qualify as safe for work? should i get that changed to a link?)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not the kind of image one expects on this thread. A link might be better, I suppose.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

She got caught up in a fishing net :(

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I've asked for it to be turned into a link. Sorry boys :)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, I'm not upset by it!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I was apologising for making you all have to click the link to look at Magdalena.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

OH THE AGONY!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

She's not all that actually, but the Scottish tabloids seem to be rather fond of her.

Anyway, transfer speculation. Yes.

Predictions for Strachan era. We won't sign Bellamy. We should sign Niemi. That's about it.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Mrs. Hedman, like many others has found her way to the back of her husband's net.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

She has a sister who looks exactly the same as her too. They used to be pop stars but gave it all up to devote their time to charity. Proper footballers' wives (well footballer's wife and sister-in-law).

None of this makes him a very good goalkeeper though. I'd happily donate him to AFC Wombles.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ailsa, PLEASE say that you have some kind of jurisdiction over Celtic's transfer policy. We're going to end up signing Crawley Town's reserve keeper or something at this rate, but a really shit-hot stopper would melt my banana good and proper.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, are you talking about Hedman? I take it by shit-hot you mean shit.

If it was up to me you could have him. Actually he's not that bad, by which I mean compared he's not that bad compared to Douglas and Marshall.

I would really like to see Antti Niemi in goals for Celtic next season. Or else could we have Javier Sanchez Broto back please? (I am remaining well within the constraints of Celtic's non-existent transfer budget, I feel).

In the "anyone want them?" pile for Celtic, you could probably add Stephen Pearson. If he can't get even get a place on the bench given Thompson's poor form, then I presume he might be one of the players MON meant when he hinted that some of the players wouldn't be that sad to see him go. (I like Pearson, btw, and would be quite happy to see him in the hoops for a few more years)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.football-rumours.com/dodgyarchives.htm suggests Vieri, Gera, Robert (I've heard this one before) and, erm, Saviola (yeah right) are all signing targets for Celtic. Though some of these may be wishful thinking, and yes, I'm aware of the URL but some of their past rubbish has come true.

I've also heard about Roys Carroll and Keane coming to Parkhead but I don't think I can cry any more this week, sorry.

I'm thinking the receptionist at Celtic Park is more likely to be waving hello to Paul Hartley and whoever Dundee can't afford any more now they have been relegated.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Bristol Rovers' keeper Kevin Miller (ex-eter) is apparently on the way out, Mark. He's terrific though, so I imagine he'll make a decent pro wage somewhere easily enough. I don't know why he is going.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Holloway may be joined by Dennis Wise this week! Sure to be an entertaining double act. Just hope we can keep Shittu.

azob (azob), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely Tony Mowbray is going to take Derek Riordan etc with him when he goes...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

We don't want Tony Mowbray (or Derek Riordan, we've already got Stephen Pearson if we want a reasonable SPL player who will never get into the first team), thank you very much.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Figo's been released by Real. Where's he going then. Don't say Spurs, its not true...

I am liking the look of Everton's planned reinforcements at the moment - Cudicini, Forssell, Parker... all potentially very useful.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Forssell could be a superb acquisition. I am hoping he recaptures the scintillating form he enjoyed at Birmingham only too briefly.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

well he enjoyed it all that first season? and at moenchengladbach?

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Sylla, Hedman, Henchoz, Fernandez to anyone stupid enough to take them
Woohoo, Leiecester were stupid enough to sign the "versatile" Momo Sylla. One down, several to go...

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

well he enjoyed it all that first season?

i remember him being out quite often.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I am liking the look of Everton's planned reinforcements at the moment - Cudicini, Forssell, Parker... all potentially very useful.

I doubt we can afford Robbie Keane (or his wage demands) if we can get that lot. We need to keep hold of Arteta.

Of course, they'll all scarper as soon as we're demoted to the UEFA Cup.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Strachan has claimed he will keep hold of Bellamy. I do hope so.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Forsell will go nowhere.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The Brentford reserve team keeper has joined AFCW, and we've re-resigned our NZ international, brought in Lewes's captain, and nicked Walton & Hersham's left back.

Lock thread now kthxbye

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

That trio of Chelsea-to-Everton people look very impressive - I mean, they would be good signings at any club short of Chelsea.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I still think Jenas will come to Spurs, he looked good in partnership with Carrick for England. And Spurs is a much better team for a well-behaved lad like Jenas :)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Celtic tried to get Forsell before, I wonder if they will try again. My hope that Strachan's good relationship with Niemi will come good for us is all over the papers now.

Today's newspaper talk, if Celtic can't get Bellamy they will go for Derek Riordan instead. Sublime----->ridiculous. No-one else seems to want Bellamy, but I like him and I'd rather we went ambitious rather that the Old Firm's usual buy-the-best-players-off-other-SPL-clubs route.

Momo Sylla may be my favourite player out of the ones I listed on the "anyone stupid enough to sign them" list. I always thought he was worth a chance (note: I also rated Steve Guppy very highly out of MON's signings)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Peter Crouch for Celtic!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I didn't realise that I'd slagged off Derek Riordan already in this thread. Anyone whose mammy phones into Radio Scotland to complain that the commentators are pronouncing his name wrong is somehow tainted for me (it's pronounced Rye-or-dan, not Reardon, in case anyone is worried about upsetting his mum).

Is Crouch actually good? I have seen him many times and am yet to form an opinion. He looks OK in that Southampton team, but that doesn't seem enough to convince me, somehow.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, Crouch seems like a confidence player. He could score a lot of goals with the right service.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The worry if we sign Crouch is that John Hartson ends up the 'wee nippy guy' in the forward partnership.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ashton is better than crouch i think

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, Shaun Maloney will be the nippy guy. I hope Hartson will go (to Celebrity Fat Club) and we will have Beattie, Maloney and Bellamy up front. Which isn't really transfer speculation, so I'll kid on that we'll have Ronaldhino playmaking behind them. Or maybe Larsson enjoyed himself so much on Sunday that he'll come back. The sun was shining and that, so maybe he'll forget about the fact that he left Scotland because Magdalena wanted somewhere with better weather.

Apparently

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

er, Hibs have rejected a bid from Celtic for Riordan

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Onimo, don't you have final scores to tally up on the predictions thread?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Final score: I won :-P

I'll do them tomorrow at "work"

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It is rumoured that I am going to transfer my allegiances to Derby County ON LOAN for next season to see whether it is any more fun than crappy Aston Villa. However, I reserve the right to recall myself in the unlikely event of excitement at Villa Park.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 2 June 2005 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Money grabbing wee bastard. Have him.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm assuming that's an xpost, unless you're suggesting transferring allegiance from Villa to Derby represents money grabbing wee bastardness.

Riordan has scored some sensational goals this season but I honestly don't think he'd improve the Celtic first 11 (or however many we've got left). I'm still hoping Bellamy stays but Strachan chasing Riordan suggests otherwise.

Word of warning to skiving workers, don't gizoogle a Strachan interview.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Aye, xpost, sorry.

With 18 months to go he (or his agent, same thing) wants us to break the wage structure to keep him. Prick. No wonder we said that he's for sale to the first club to meet the valuation. After a mediocre season next year, let's see how much he thinks he's worth then. (Too much bitter experience - Kenny Miller, Gary O'Connor, Tam McManus step forward)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to think about my family's future.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It's in Villa's hands now. They have to decide if your seat could be better filled by someone more willing to buy pies and merchandise or whether to stick with the tried and tested 'money in and the odd bovril' strategy.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't got a seat. I would've asked for a transfer ages ago if I had. This is purely an armchair allegiance. I'm going to try tapping myself up as soon as I can get a bit of privacy.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Will he be running naked through the corridors of the BBC?

In other news, Celtic and Rangers will be seeded in the Champions League third round qualifiers (if Celtic get to the third round, that is) therefore "Battle of Britain" against non-seeded Everton potential for all the papers to get excited about.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Will he be running naked through the corridors of the BBC?

Ailsa, you are married lady issues such as this shouldn't concern you !

Also it's a special live football forum from Crewe Alexander.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I've become oddly obsessed with Dave B's impending nakedness since he threatened to streak through the streets of Liverpool should they win the Champions League. Crewe's quite near Liverpool (relatively speaking) so perhaps an opportunity has presented itself.

That's far from wrong. I wonder which footballers vote LibDem (if any).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The Guardian's saying it looks like Crouch for Liverpool, which surprises me for reasons I can't quite work out.

Dean Ashton's related to the Tory who lost Harrow East this time out, not that that means anything about Dean himself.

I mean it would be dishonest of me.

Come to think of it, I did vote Lib Dem.

I imagine the 'Brains In Boots' brigade vote Lib Dem, if there are any these days.

Most footballers can't vote, they are foreign.

Ulrik not Henrik Laurson not Larsson wanted by those sly Foxes. Levein seems convinced the Celtic 2nd string is good enough for the Championship. He is wrong.

Edwin van der Sar has gone to Man Utd.

I notice they left Andy Goram off their list of goalies they have tried unsuccessfully to replace Schmeichel with.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 5 June 2005 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I see both Sunderland and West Ham are attempting to secure Ian Harte, which would mean by this time next year he'll have been relegated three times in three seasons.

It appears that his occasionally accurate free-kicks are still blinding people to the fact that he can't tackle and remains the only full back I have ever seen outpaced by David Beckham.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Sunday, 5 June 2005 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray! An excellent goalie to sign.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 5 June 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

It's another club knocked off the list of competition for Antti Niemi's signature anyway.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 5 June 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I always think Van Der Saar is older than that. It feels as if he's been in an end-of-career decline for a year or two and is about to retire - yet the BBC say he is only 34, and I am sure they are right. That makes this a good signing - they could have five very sound years from him yet.

Niemi to Arsenal, maybe?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

No, Niemi is going to Celtic

*crosses fingers, clicks heels together etc*

Blimey, are we (Sunderland)? I hadn't heard that one.

I'm seriously hoping we get Jon Stead rather than Kenny Miller, though.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank god Man Utd plumbed for EVDS and not Paul Robinson. They had me worried there.

Boa Morte would be a worse signing for Liverpool than Crouch. The last thing they need is another fancy-yet-inconsistent attacker.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

This should put a stop to speculation about Michael Owen's future:

'I'd like to think I'm a better player than this time a year ago and that I'm improving. Going to Spain has been a big positive for my career, I've got nothing bad to say about going out there.' Owen also believes the move has benefited England. 'Every time England get knocked out of a big tournament, the main reason everyone says is that we've got a long hard season in England, players playing 60 games and we need a winter break. We've got all these excuses but when someone comes back [like me] who's played 30-35 games and come on as a sub in 20, well that's about a perfect balance.'

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i think boa morte has been pretty consistent this year. i think people think hes a bit fancydan and not all that useful because, well, he used to be

my arsenal prediction:

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Chelsea Prediction:

Realising they don't have much room in their squad they sell a few players.

Mourinho buys a crappy portugese defender who is soon proclaimed a flop.

They try to buy gerrard, and fail.

They try to buy Shevchenko, and fail.

So they plump for another overrated european flop. Eidar keeps them going again.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Liverpool Prediction:

Benitez is fretting over Gerrard most of the summer.

Buys a couple of pants wingers.

Try to sign Raul, fail.

They get Scott Parker and he is a revelation with Gerrard in midfield.

Cisse has a good season, but not as good as Morientes whose feet are, litrally, aflame.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Tottenham prediction:

With nobody to tell them who to buy they just buy at random.

Man Utd try to buy defoe, fail.

I predict Tottenham will have a great season. Robinson will die in a freak accident and months later police will find "Don't fuck with James" note in his pocket.

David James loses the World Cup single handedly (litrally).

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Forssel for £3m sounds a very good buy to me. Will he be playing alongside Heskey? I'm less sure about that...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 11 June 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr A$hur$t, i find yourpredictions to be mostly insight, except for the bit about Utd going anywhere near SWP or vice versa.

i have a HORRIBLE feeling both Liverpool and Spurs will do well next season, which will not suit me at all as they both feature on my list of clubs to hate for no particular reason (along with every single team in Claret and Blue: although V*lla are an exception - i hate them 'cos they're scum).

Haha i forgot about the Manchester rivalry for a second there. Wright Phillips would be the perfect player for United right now. He could fill in for Scholes or Ronaldo when he's filling in for Giggs. Basically next season there's going to be a lot of filling in at Manchester United.

All of Everton's big-name signings seem to have evaporated. It's just like the good old days under Gordon Lee. Forsell and/or Parker either failed medicals or didn't get as far as taking them, depending on who you believe. At least Leon Osman has signed a new contract.

Yeah, I'm well pleased with that.

Oooh, we've just signed Kelvin Davis from Ipswich as well.

only as part of the Portsmouth squad.

David_X (David_X), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

According to the 'Parker to Newcastle' speculation on the beeb, Parker's on £55k a week! He's an okay player I suppose but £55k? wtf?

Villa and Everton seem to be shying away from Bellamy after it emerged that his £38kpw deal at Newcastle is due to rise to £50kpw in a couple of weeks and he expects potential suitors to match it. So to sign him for £6M on a 3 year deal will cost almost £14M plus bonuses.

Celtic are allegedly after Polish international striker Maciej Zurawski from Wisla Krakow, which suggests they too have given up on Bellamy.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I was in Wolverhampton yesterday, and I was very tempted to go down to the Molineux, kidnap Jackie MacNamara and take him back to Celtic again.

According to Reporting Scotland, Celtic are after another two blokes from Wisla Krakow, neither of whose names I can remember, but one is a centre half and the other a right back.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that Parker is at Newcastle, Jenas to head to Old Trafford. Also Michael Owen to Man Utd, with either Van Nistelroy or Ronaldo (plus Silvestre?) heading in the opposite direction.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 18 June 2005 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm positive that Van Nistelroy will go.

Will really bolster transfer funds and since he had such a terrible season it won't be too hard for Fergie. Owen is a much better prospect, especially with Rooney. VN and Rooney never really clicked.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 18 June 2005 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Graham Roberts is attempting to get Paul Gascoigne, Arthur Numan and Scot Gemmill to Clyde. (Lack of Celtic transfer activity is forcing me to take an interest in the mister's team)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 18 June 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I see Forsell initially accused Everton of "fabricating" the story of his failed medical but has now said there was "discussion of his medical history" when he visited Merseyside, at which point Moyes lost interest. I guess having been burned (so far) by Beattie, he's not going to risk more precious millions on a potential crock. Also, the wage demands of all of these targets are probably beyond Everton, Champions' League or not (even with Campbell gone and Big Dunc possibly taking a pay cut).

Oh, well - back to scanning the lower divisions.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Saturday, 18 June 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Van Nis had an injured season rather than a terrible one, I thought. I wouldn't trade him for Owen, who's not looked at his best since the last big injury.

Surely the Champions' League (assuming you get through qualifiers) is worth, they always say, £20m (I don't know if that's a realistic figure)? That's a fair amount of wages covered.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 18 June 2005 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

They always say that, but I heard Celtic only got £7m last season. It's probably worth more if you actually win more than one game though.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 18 June 2005 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 23 June 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

re: And you think they'll know where bolton is?

Yes most of the them played there last season ! Chelsea would have flown up to Manchester Airport the day before, stayed in a plush 5 star hotel and then coached it to Bolton. So they would have an idea of where it is / how far to travel etc.

It's possible though that some of them don't give a monkeys about maps - as long as they win.

For the new signings just tell 'em it's north of Manchester.

Leeds the largest city in the EU without a top flight football club.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 23 June 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Aston Villa fans have reacted with caution to reports that a consortium may launch a £45 bid for the club.

Personally, I have not reacted with caution. I have thrown caution to the wind. I may even have a biscuit later on.

The only remaining player from AFC Wimbledon's trials on Wimbledon Common, 3 years ago, has left the club. Joe Sheerin, former Chelsea and Bournemotuh striker and club captain for our first two seasons, has moved to Croydon Athletic after several recurring injuries robbed the club of a startlingly talented forward for the majority of the past two seasons.

Seems timely, in a way, what with the FCUM trials being held this weekend. Any news on them, btw?

Sky fixtures.

Don't laugh at me, but I can't find them on the Sky website. This is from a West Ham website, but supposedly, sound info.

Actually, the same guy started a Figo to Hammers thread, so I appologise in advance if this data is bollocks.

Apparently 900 applied, and 200 actually played. Nobody famous as far as I know, which is a shame as there was an internet rumour that Lee Sharpe might have been leaving the love island to join FCUM.

BBC says Everton are ready to SWOOP for Manchester United's "versatile star" um... Phil Neville, who somehow managed to get himself contracted to Utd until 2009!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/everton/4744383.stm

Phil Neville's career stats:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/bsp/hi/football/statistics/players/n/neville_19683.stm

Never been red carded, 52 caps, 78 European games, not to mention a big bunch of medals. How the hell did he do it?

Someone (can't remember who) once said "If you ever want to know everything that's wrong with football these days just remind yourself that Phil Neville is a multimillionaire.

Name that Premiership manager:

He said: "This year could be a funny year. Four years ago, nothing happened until after the World Cup.

"I know who I would love to get and I would love to get them in the first few weeks.

"But I think, in general, nothing much happens until after the World Cup. I think the fans will have to be patient."

We're going to end up signing Crawley Town's reserve keeper or something at this rate

-- Markelby (boyincorduro...), May 24th, 2005 7:50 PM. (Mark C)

Astonishingly, we DID end up signing Crawley Town's reserve keeper, who has just been voted Player of the Year. It's a funny old game.

I am impressed by the prescience of everyone upthread suggesting Celtic might not qualify for the group stages of the Champions League...

Not a lot of these came true did they? (though, a year down the line, Celtic actually now have a pre-contract agreement with Derek Riordan for him to sign in January)
