I'm impressed that Newton still has all her teeth at 18, and for an Asian breed!

I think that picture of Newton is actually from when she was 17, and she looks younger than usual. Though she has all/most of her teeth, she doesn't have much hearing left, and her body is pretty creaky these days. Not sure about the asian breed, I think she's a mutt of a cat that came with free catfood down at the local garden center.

Newton is pretty and dignified.

latebloomer's cat reminds me of many of my favourite cats from childhood and early adulthood (we had a great family.)

Naming your cats after Buffy characters is of course awesome, especially since Buffy characters are great at naming cats themselves.

Introducing a new kitty can be tough. Our Isis was an "only cat" for three years, and it took nearly two months before she could be in the same room with Petu without hissing at them. Now, after three years together, they get along....ok. They still fight quite a bit, but it's mostly out of boredom I think. They also hang out friendly together as well, sharing a windowsill to watch birds fly by or give each other "kitty kisses". I'm glad we added Petu to the fam', but I wish we had done it earlier. If your cat is over five years old, I would highly recommend catsitting for someone first to see his/her reaction to a new creature in your space.

Oh yeah, and if you get a permanent addition, be SURE to have someone else bring it into the household and make sure your existing cat sees this person do it. As strange as it sounds, your cat will be less upset if they know some random asshole stuck them with with a new sibling than if it was you.

Weird!

Our cat is 4 years old and she loves us, but gets shitty if another cat even walks past our house. I've read a little about it, but I never realised how important another person bringing the cat over can be. I'll def. be doing that. Thanks for the advice!

it's been a month now since i last saw my cat. i miss her so much! my mom sent me pics of her the other day though. that put a smile on my face. she's really special. before her I've never met a cat who actually holds grudges(I swear!). we named her, Kajsa, after a swedish high jumper cause when we got her she was always jumping up on tables, shelves, railings etc. best thing about her? she smells really good. yes, I sniff my cat!

I like how they both sleep no matter how loud the music is. In both of those pictures the meters on the piece of equipment behind them show that something's coming over the control room monitors at a pretty good volume...

This is Phoebe. I don't know how old she is but she is very small. We inherited her when my roommate's dad re-married and Phoebe didn't get along with the dog. She makes stinky shits and only pays attention to me when my roommate isn't here. She does not 'meow' with authority and sounds sickly and weak and pathetic when she tries to talk. She is not atypical, I suppose.
