Logan is the best hated character on television. What a stupid little man.

Edgar is still dumb as a rock.

Edgar's not dumb; he's just horny.

Annoying kid w/ the Spin City mom needs to learn how to use a cellphone so he doesn't get held hostage by terrorists.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 January 2006 04:50 (twenty years ago)

What happened to Kim, BTW? She fall into a vat of pudding? Get killed by a papercut? Shoot out her eye w/ a BB gun?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 January 2006 04:55 (twenty years ago)

urgent, what happened in the last segment, my DVR got cut off, help

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 16 January 2006 06:33 (twenty years ago)

terrorists entered the airport and took hostages, including the kid (who saw them entering and ran in to warn Jack)

Russian terrorist head called up some dude, who told him that he took care of the problem with the First Lady, he had altered the tapes. it was revealed to be CUMMINGS (that boring dude who advises Logan)

gear (gear), Monday, 16 January 2006 06:37 (twenty years ago)

thanks! I've been checking forums, what happened with the cyanide?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 16 January 2006 06:45 (twenty years ago)

gear (gear), Monday, 16 January 2006 06:47 (twenty years ago)

okay cool thanks OY VEY

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 16 January 2006 06:53 (twenty years ago)

Motherfuckers killed off Michelle! It's like they think the public wants to watch 24 hours of wormy/ugly/goofy/vaguely Nixonesque men instead of the luminescent beauty of Reiko Aylesworth! And Dennis Haysbert! They seriously reduced the prettiness quotient of this show in one five-minute period.

I remain hopeful that, given the fates of Presidents Palmer and Keeler, Logan will be dead by the end of the day. Such a sniveling jackass.

reddening (reddening), Monday, 16 January 2006 07:57 (twenty years ago)

Designing Woman for President! Chloe for Veep! Kim Raver doing some stuff, too!

Yeah, bumping off two of my 24 faves was a bummer, but A) it allows Dennis Haysbert more time to do those Allstate commercials, B) no more Michelle / Tony "I wuv you because you complete me / No, I wuv you because you are my rock" nonsense, and C) TONY ALMEIDA WILL GET HIS REVENGE HELL YEAH (once he, um, heals up some).

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 January 2006 11:20 (twenty years ago)

I really liked Reiko's hair for the minute she was on. And I'm betting on Elisha Cuthbert coming back sooner or later.

OMG Dennis Haysbert could totally work in his death into the Allstate commercials. "You don't want this to happen to you"

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

It took a few hours to recover from BEING SHOT IN THE THROAT, so I give Tony about two hours this time.

I hope Buchanan is not gonna torture Chloe... enough with the non-Jack torture already.

I call Wayne taking out Walt Cummings.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Monday, 16 January 2006 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Chase kills Logan's wife and everyone suspects Logan, who has mysteriously vanished. "I'm telling you, the one-armed man did it!"

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 16 January 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

So, I think I'm going to watch this season after skipping the first four. How eye-rolling are the deus ex machinas? Is Palmer's brother likely to go to the morgue around hour 17, pull the ex-prez out of storage, say "wake up bro, it's time" and help him strap on some Rambo-sized guns?

truck-patch pixel farmer (my crop froze in the field) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:12 (twenty years ago)

And I'm betting on Elisha Cuthbert coming back sooner or later.

Maybe my "wit" was a little too obtuse.

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm a bit conflicted about Sexy!Chloe. "I don't want people thinking I'm a slut!"

So many hateable douchebags already! Chloe's boyslave, Whiney McWhinington ("WHY WON'T YOU TALK TO ME, FRANK?? I'M SCARED." (Jack: "I'M THE GODDAMN JACK BAUER.")), Walt Comings, and so on.

However, unintentional funniness: Nixon to First Lady: "Martha Martha Martha"! Speaking of whom, I hear that she gets better tonight.

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Too obtuse, yes.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:49 (twenty years ago)

WHY WONT MY TORRENT FINISH LOADING GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 16 January 2006 23:28 (twenty years ago)

Thanks.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 16 January 2006 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Is it an unspoken rule that the mostly inconsequential Aaron Pierce must appear in every season?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 01:36 (twenty years ago)

I just watched this via bittorrent.

The world is no longer in good hands. And Jack Bauer was on the grassy knoll.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 03:57 (twenty years ago)

Also: Chloe's password is 'JJ72'. How indie.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 04:26 (twenty years ago)

What - nothing about Samwise being the bureaucratic bitchtit? I was so disappointed he was the one that picked up on the "Flank 2" thing.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 05:50 (twenty years ago)

God, Evelyn is hot.

c(''c) (Leee), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 23:10 (twenty years ago)

I picked up on "Flank 2" the first time Jack said it, before he even repeated it.

Because it's television, and there always has to be a reason why characters say everything.

Then again at the beginning of episode four the cameras keep focusing on some woman and her kid in the middle of the hostages and I thought it would turn out to be the Russian president's daughter and his grandson, or something. Fuck knows why they showed her three times.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 04:32 (twenty years ago)

This is pretty lame. The only good things so far are the First Lady and the twist that the Division sneak turned out to be right. Otherwise it's just like some kind of compendium of the previous four seasons' stock plot devices. And who told the scriptwriters about data mining? It's shaping up to be this season's torture.

Motherfuckers killed off Michelle! It's like they think the public wants to watch 24 hours of wormy/ugly/goofy/vaguely Nixonesque men instead of the luminescent beauty of Reiko Aylesworth!

Actually this was another good bit. It was like them saying: "ABC have got a younger, prettier version in Evangeline Lilly. Ditch Michelle."

ihttp://zindy.zone.dk/images/drawings/stars/evangeline_lilly_3_x.jpg

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 21 January 2006 01:14 (twenty years ago)

i haven't seen the new season yet, but the pictures i've seen of evangeline lilly make her seem a little more ho-ey than reiko aylesworth, so i don't know if i could consider it a replacement.

my one great hope for this season is that jack loses his "center of goodness" status, tipping the perception of his rule-breaking rages from grudging admiration to shock at his dangerous lunacy.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 21 January 2006 01:17 (twenty years ago)

Also, I realise we don't know the full story of what's going on yet, but the baddy HQ boss with the headset genuinely seemed to be hoping that the hostage-taking was going to stop this US-Russian accord being signed. What kind of a stupid plan was that? Say they had managed to stop it. What was supposed to prevent them just signing it next week instead?

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 21 January 2006 01:33 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I can stomach "vigilante Jack" for 24 episodes. The show's creators just slobber all over his knob. The first time you see him he's under a construction hat, and when he squints up towards the camera to reveal his face it's accompanied by the faint, clear sound of a faraway bugle. DOES ANY OTHER THAN WHITE MEN BE ALLOWED THE FARAWAY BUGLE??

Yawn (Wintermute), Monday, 23 January 2006 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I've only seen the first episode. But already it's just made me totally annoyed. Jack calls his latest chick from a helicopter, having abducted her son. He basically tells her this and nothing more and she's totlaly freaked out. Jack goes "remember when you said you trusted me this morning? Well trust me now!"

The problem was, she didn't say she trusted Jack. She said shhe trusted her instincts. And her instincts during that phone call from the helicopter was "Jack is a potential lunatic and a threat to my son" !!

SOMEBODY PLEASE JUST CALL THE POLICE ON JACK, MAYBE THIS SEASON CAN BE CALLED "8" or SOMETHING.

Alright, that last episode was pretty good.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 04:42 (twenty years ago)

haha it's really ridiculous now but jack's turned into such a 'outta control/but he's the best we got' it's fantastic - i was totally 'let jack interrogate him!' and when he was 'i'm not ctu anymore - i'll go get him myself' i was totally 'yeah! go kick karl rove's ass!'.

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 04:47 (twenty years ago)

jack's double-take at the president saying he knew about cummings made me chuckle.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 04:40 (twenty years ago)

Some good development in this episode, although they are veering very close to the 2nd season plot about Middle Eastern oil.

Anyone else sort of chuckle when Logan said "Dammit!" instead of Jack at the end?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 05:41 (twenty years ago)

i watched four hours of this last night to catch up. it doesn't work quite so well when you watch it back to back, it's moving very fast these days, which is good when you have a week b/w episodes, but I felt like I'd watched four movies worth of plot. Still, I liked Jack threatening to cut dude's eyes out.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I'm a sucker, but the bit where Cummings actually came clean (har) to Logan surprised me. Logan's wishy-washy lame-ass capitulation, OTOH ... Jean Smart should have him & her no-good assistant whacked.

I hope Meshach Taylor's the veep.

Logan is shorter.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:44 (twenty years ago)

The pacing in this season has been so odd so far, very episode-to-episode basis.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 23:14 (twenty years ago)

The last twenty minutes of hour six were probably the nearest it's been to the greatness of the first season in about four years.

but michael, this last episode climaxes halfway through! the second half hour was a whole new thing. it would have been nice to fade out on the team at CTU cranking back up. that was nice the way they handled that. the less fucking jack is in it the better. nice work there, breaking two women's hearts in the same day, totally unnecessarily. go git em.

am i smart or not? 24 -->>

>> the double-crossing chief of staff, who from time to time uses his mobile phone to call up the Terrorist Mastermind -- played by an eery head in a tub of christmas lights -- and cleverly coding the conversation about the nerve gas by saying "has the nerve gas reached the port?"

>> jack, who's not only still officially dead but in an off-the-books operation, answers his mobile by barking, "Bauer!" Of course it's Bauer, that's who they called. cock knocker.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 06:37 (twenty years ago)

when he was like "i did what i came here to do..." i was like "please, god, say you're leaving" and then he comes out with "but i'd like to stay on to secure the nerve gas, hyuk!" .. like porky pig pulling the shrinking circle back apart at the end of a cartoon.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 06:48 (twenty years ago)

Well you know with Jack always in so many sticky situations, you never know who could answer his phone.

The moles have been rather obvious so far, where has the unpredictability gone? I know with the 5th season you should expect diminishing returns but eh, give me more Pi and less Die Hard or Rambo.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 17:09 (twenty years ago)

It's almost comical that Logan can't tell wrong from right sometimes. I guess that's the point.

Logan: The terrorists want the Russian President's motorcade route, they're going to assassinate him.
Novick: Oh my.
Logan: Yeah....

(long awkward pause)

Novick: Well, uh, we can't let that happen you know.
Logan: Oh right!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

They've done the "big bad guy dispatches the to-date bad guy in first minute of show" trick before, haven't they? Regardless, it was boffo. Julian Sands gets my Presidential Seal of Approval.

Mrs. Logan for President, BTW. And here's hoping 1) Curtis does actually pull his gun on Mr. I Was Beat Up By My Druggy Sister's Boybitch and 2) Jack does the "got yr eye, Mr. Cummings" trick on the current Preznit.

welcome to the world of typecasting, kiefer

Yawn (Wintermute), Thursday, 23 February 2006 18:13 (twenty years ago)

That movie really does look like an episode of 24, except not as exciting. The shot of the presidential helicopter getting hit in the trailer is clearly intended to show how drastic this movie might be (oh noes they might kill the president!), but 24 has killed the president like six times already.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Thursday, 23 February 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone else watch '24' now and absolutely hate it because all they can concentrate on are on the GLARINGLY OBVIOUS PLOT HOLES and bad dialogue. You have to suspend your disbelief even more than you do watching 'Lost' because it's so hard to believe that all the characters are so bloody stupid.

Like why doesn't Lynn simply say he's lost his keycard, get a copy made and change his passwords? Unless the keycard is important, like in season one? And why didn't he send her a money transfer, or tell an assistant to go out for him? And why did Jack have to knock out Curtis? Why didn't he ask for his help? It's not like Curtis is a baddie. And why didn't the president think of giving the Russian president gas masks for his car journey? Or just send an empty limo?

And do the writers keep reusing situations from past seasons? Keycards, witnesses killing hostages, Jack impersonating baddies, Jack being 'brought in' by the head of CTU, CTU people being put 'in holding' - it's all been done before, except it was better before.

The last three episodes have just been so dumb it's unbearable.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 24 February 2006 10:28 (twenty years ago)

Also: Jack trying in vain to save the life of a useful bad guy who now wants to help CTU as they run across rooftops being shot at by helicopters. At least this guy didn't just fall off the roof all by himself like that other guy in season two.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 24 February 2006 10:31 (twenty years ago)

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 24 February 2006 10:37 (twenty years ago)

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 03:47 (twenty years ago)

I gave up halfway through last week's episode. "unbearable" is right.

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 04:07 (twenty years ago)

Like why doesn't Lynn simply say he's lost his keycard, get a copy made and change his passwords?
He's a proud man on a power trip, it wouldn't look good to have lost a keycard to such a restricted area.

And why did Jack have to knock out Curtis?
Can't take a chance, Curtis is not a baddie, but he's by-the-book.

And why didn't the president think of giving the Russian president gas masks for his car journey? Or just send an empty limo?
They attacked with gunfire and missiles, and an empty limo would piss off the terrorists into attacking the U.S.

And do the writers keep reusing situations from past seasons? Keycards, witnesses killing hostages, Jack impersonating baddies, Jack being 'brought in' by the head of CTU, CTU people being put 'in holding' - it's all been done before, except it was better before.
Agreed.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 04:29 (twenty years ago)

Just wait until the puma chases Kim Bauer into CTU next week! Shit's gonna fly!

I can see what James is saying, but I'm not expecting anything more than "dumb" rock-em sock-em push-button shenanigans from 24. I'll take plot holes to go if it means getting to see Peter Weller play the bad guy. And getting to see Mike Novick finally kick the Preznit in his jowls.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 05:41 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, this week's was a lot better.

Two hours' worth are being shown on Monday. Someone dies. Some article I just read gives away the last shot of the two hours, which in turn makes it obvious who dies.

Thing is, the previous eleven episodes don't.

Tony's got nothing left to lose. Neither does Chloe. But they haven't fucked w/ Bauer much in recent episodes. I say Audrey takes one for the team (dammit).

I had a scintilla of hope that Leland Palmer would be as presidential as Novak wishes Logan was, but they've managed to make a decisive decision-maker look worse than the turkey-necked rubber tree. Kudos!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 23:09 (twenty years ago)

prez, on advice from hobbit, is willing to actually allow hundreds of shoppers to die in a nerve gas attack. why? because there is "100% certainty" the chechens will lead ctu back to the remaining canisters of gas if, and only if, they first succeed in wiping out a mall full of people (indoor mall by now totally unquestioned bastion of all that is good and great in america) .. consider the gravity of this situation ... many disagree w/the moral triage, but prez considers the subsequent capture of the nerve gas to be worth those lives and then some.

so, how does our intrepid team of crimefighters execute on this plan that was worth the lives of innocents? with a giant convoy of black SUVs following about a block behind bad guy #2.. they are spotted instantly.. they lose everything.

and guess who's in charge of that convoy. fucking curtis.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 13 March 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

(i'm still getting caught up, obv) (after years of pulling for curtis to finally get his moment it seems apparent he never, ever will get it -- and no, invoking "section 12" or whatever and outbadassing, er, sean astin does not count. i'm starting to hate him, anyway. all he does is set up perimeters, do exactly what people tell him to do, and stoically accept every endless deferral of power and authority.)

(motorcade sequence outlandishly ham-handed ... why not just ... tell the russians what's going on? sheesh)

if i were president in "24" land, i would start avoiding the fuck out of l.a.

man, i never realized fox news covered TReATY SIGNING with such play-by-play breathlessness! from the afternoon coverage, one might almost think a former president hadn't been assassinated just several hours earlier

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 13 March 2006 16:05 (twenty years ago)

also, ENORMOUS potential wasted for hair-raising creepiness in motorcade ... martha should have gotten in the car and acted her ass off, just chatting away to russian 1st family, punctuated with one or two nervous glance closeups; perfect opportunity to give martha a little humanity and character beyond her "good conscience"/"on the verge of batshit" routine; perfect opportunity for WHATEVER little speech the writers want to give her to dramatize nature of strategic alliances between superpowers in the age of terrorism, or the importance of sharing a little beauty in that fleeting times we have before death or et cetc; writers simply lack the imagination for this, though

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 13 March 2006 16:18 (twenty years ago)

(Everyone knows that the woman who plays Audrey is going to be on another show this fall, right?)

Dan (Just Warning Y'all) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 March 2006 16:52 (twenty years ago)

what's it called, "Vague Fret"?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:30 (twenty years ago)

this fall on Fox.. you won't BELIEVE what has Kim Raver sorta worried!!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Who on 24 DOESN'T have Vauge Fret Face at one point or another?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

yeah true. Curtis is like king of that.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Curtis' contract must include a ban on personality. I'm still hoping some emotion might seep through in the second half.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 01:30 (twenty years ago)

I found out this weekend that Edgar (RIP) was in The Usual Suspects. He's in the cop car when the Fantastic Five rob New York's Finest Taxi Service.

If they off Buchanan tonight, I'm totally going to be upset for at least 6 days.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 01:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, me too. It's not looking good at the moment with him being all alone in the CTU director's room.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 02:24 (twenty years ago)

noooooooooooo

(it even made jack cry)

maura (maura), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

they could have at least given him a silent clock, you know

maura (maura), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:22 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure he's dead yet (although that might have been clarified in the "scene from next week's episode" which I don't watch.) The shock seems diluted compared to last week's episode and the drama earlier in the hour.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:38 (twenty years ago)

the death is confirmed in tomorrow's ny times.

maura (maura), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:51 (twenty years ago)

not seen the new one (though spoil away) but catching up with the prior two weeks i was struck by the kind of old world instinct they give the russian premier and wife - there's a kind of 6th sense they've got, an intuitive grasp of psychology, that appears to utterly elude the "HOW DO I SHOT WINDOWS XP" mentality of the americans ... it's the familiar mix of condescension and awe that typifies american stereotypes of europeanism, of course, but it makes an interesting counterpoint that i'm glad they exploited, however briefly ... ep 12 was the first this season that i actually liked. even though it still totally failed to deliver on the obvious (i.e. bungled intelligence or the documented ineffectiveness of torture -- or ANYTHING -- being responsible for plot obstacles rather than the two old 24 favorites [the predictable wiles of the baddies or a progress bar on a computer monitor]) it finally rose to the promise of those episodes starring President of Your Crotch, Dennis Haysbert, in making pointed a pointed analogy to the present-day exec. admin. of the US -- BOB HIMSELF (laura palmer's twin peaks killer) is VP of of the US, subbing for the neocons and doing a knockout Reagan voice! instantly the planets crystallize for a 2nd-half showdown: novick becomes the lone voice of reason everyone wishes the bush admin had now that colin powell is gone, martha is the conscience everyone wishes barbara bush had, and BOB is the vile amalgam of rumsfeld, wolfowitz, feith and everyone else who prefers force to reason.

two formal curveballs: the opening sequence, which de-fenced long snippets of scenes from the previous episode, allowing them to roam freely outside the "what happened last week" box into the current nowness of the show -- so much that i stopped my video player to check if i hadn't started the wrong episode -- and yes, the merciful respect of those silent beeps which was very very classy.

still one of the most conservative, racist shows on TV though.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:52 (twenty years ago)

elisha i don't want to spoil this for you, seriously

maura (maura), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:54 (twenty years ago)

I did not see that coming at all, but yeah, it wasn't as shocking as it could've been.

I really do not want to see another "Jack & Co. have to operate convertly against their bosses' orders" scenario again. I'm hoping that this is just an excuse to send Audrey home.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 03:56 (twenty years ago)

hahaha speaking of, cuthbert was totally on point in ep 12!! she spit jack's own crusty mentality right back at him and was he like, "wo." it was nice to see her slough off the cloying pixie ingenue thing she had going on.

xpost

Tracer (seriously, SPOIL AWAY) Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 04:01 (twenty years ago)

also, sorry, one last thin, wtf with the "hand-holding scandal" mike novick was up in arms about?? at the very least let martha plant a huge smooch on The Secret Service Agent You'd Most Like to Have a Beer With at the exact moment novick walks in ... holding hands is kind of what one might expect from two people who had just narrowly escaped death together not one hour earlier?? jeez. and that IS what i mean by conservative.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 04:05 (twenty years ago)

The last time Mike Novick held someone's hand, she was being carted off in an ambulance.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 04:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm kind of worried/upset that they've killed off three of their best characters this year without having many new ones that can replace them.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 08:19 (twenty years ago)

And don't forget the glossy-lipped, wonk-eyed pornanalyst!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 14:26 (twenty years ago)

OK ... jeez. i had carlos bernard spoiled for me by a big unneccessary caption in a story in yesterday's times about the hot new TV trend off killing of beloved characters (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, i mean why even both putting out an arts section at this just give alessandra stanley and kelefa sanneh the last page of, i dunno, the metro section or something)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:19 (twenty years ago)

YOU WANT SPOILERS YOU GOT SPOILERS

I felt sorry for Samwise. I was kinda happy Almaeda (in Princess Bride mode!) got the needle, because his "wah wah wifey" crap was annoying.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

yeah but i wanted YOU guys to spoil it. oh well.

it was weird how security duder had time to call his family when the seals were like 80% compromised and chloe had been telling jack "you have to GO. NOW!!!" like 10 minutes earlier, but whatever.

a great episode. finding the security bars ("somebody didn't file the paperwork") was brilliant, the kind of obstinate detail show's been lacking all season.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I was SO hoping Tony would say, "Prepare to die!" when he introduced himself to Robocop.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:41 (twenty years ago)

For some reason I have taken Tony's death as a personal slight, even though I don't particularly like the character. He's like the reward for people who've been watching since Season 1. (Which if you haven't watched, you'd be like, "who's the pointless boring guy with the goatee?") Did Kiefer save him from Mandy the Naked Terrorist for NOTHING?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah - what's w/ the faux-Mandy chick? MIA OR BUST!

gear (gear), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 22:14 (twenty years ago)

No, I think the whole terrorist plan is going to founder on her sexing for too long.

How come the president and his staff seem to be showing more reluctance towards implementing martial law in LA than they did towards killing hundreds of shoppers and the president's wife?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:03 (twenty years ago)

hmm, '24' mashed up with a zombie movie might be a good show.

gear (gear), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:06 (twenty years ago)

Is anyone else worried that Robocop knows who Kim is and now has a puma gun on him?

MitchellStirling (MitchellStirling), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:23 (twenty years ago)

A little. But just a little.

Yeah, I'm not sure why martial law is such a bad idea. An RPG has hit the American 1st lady and the Russian premier (and his wife) in their car. Hostages have been killed at an airport and shoppers killed with nerve gas at a mall. What, precisely, would be enough to trigger a curfew at this point if not that?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:53 (twenty years ago)

Rhesus monkeys.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 16 March 2006 00:54 (twenty years ago)

First China, now Jack's got Germany pissed off at him.

I don't know, the VP is making evil sinister faces RIGHT IN FRONT of Logan. Geez, learn to read people. I'm surprised he didn't rubbed his hands and let out an evil laugh.

I'm excited at the prospect of Aaron padding his body count.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 04:25 (twenty years ago)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Yawn OTM on the "got contrived subplot?" front. This was actually my least favorite episode of the season so far. OH NO WILL JACK SURVIVE? Yay for chem majors, tho, even if they have issues.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 21:10 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, Daver?? I thought that one had it all - mistaken torturing of loved ones, Jack running down a corridor towards the camera as it bursts into flames behind him, Jack going apeshit at CTU and getting tasered and then 10 minutes later his taserer just totally following his orders like it's no big deal. New Bosses get bitchier but of course totally knucke to Jack, too. Curtis once again "preps a tac team," dropping onto a roof from a helicopter, a gunfight, a long lingering kiss and hug, "aw Audrey, I'm sorry I accused you of betraying our country, at least now I know about your taste for hotel hook-ups with D.C. powerbrokers and it kinda turns me on," - and the show's paranoia given yet a new face with pornalyst #3 (at least, at this point) exemplifying every not-actually-existing fantasy about overimaginative harrassment accusers ... all that and enough time for chloe to be snippy, a rocket to hit wayne palmer's car and jack to both bip a CTU security guard in the face and threaten a sexy terrorist with death if she doesn't give him the name he wants. i mean what more do you want? especially given that the white house was blissfully out of the picture all episode.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 March 2006 06:24 (twenty years ago)

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 31 March 2006 06:43 (twenty years ago)

logan looks like an editorial cartoon of nixon

gear (gear), Friday, 31 March 2006 07:11 (twenty years ago)

C'MON.

I was really into Vice President Gardner as the Season 5 villain, but Logan? So he was pretending to be indecisive? Just a little too convenient, if you ask me. I was even ready for Martha Logan as the mastermind behind this.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 02:08 (twenty years ago)

Making Logan the heavy is such a cop out. Leave the wishy-washy shithead as a wishy-washy shithead - don't make him the heavy because it's easy! "Oh, of course the Preznit can't be such a spineless pansy and still be a vaguely effective Preznit. He's EVIL, don't you see?" I just saw Mr. Palmer kill himself in Good Night & Good Luck, tho, so I'm happy he's not the token victim / baddie here.

I was kinda hoping Wayne Palmer would put a few in Jack, actually. And maybe (in future episodes) the Peter McNichol wannabe & Helen Mirren wannabe, too, just for safe measure. Screw Homeland Security right where they shit, yeah!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

Um, yeah?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

i'm interested in hearing the explanation! i assume that logan's controlling henderson who was controlling cummings/headset evildoer who was controlling the russian terrorists until the russians took matters into their own hands and in fact logan's panic over the russians attacking u.s. soil wasn't being faked and now he's just trying to cover his ass any way he can.

things seem to be pointing towards a leland palmer presidency in season 6.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Logan being the bad guy is such a "how can we top ourselves this week?" move on the writers' part, not that this should be surprising as they've pulled similar shit a million times each season. And I did enjoy that the transparently evil VP turned out innocent, because when he gave his heartfelt speech to Wayne about Palmer's death, he seemed full of genuine emotion. I thought he was a terrifying sociopath, but no, he was actually feeling it.

And they damn well better bring back Buchanan before the day is out.

reddening (reddening), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

I honestly don't know why I watch this show anymore. That was the fourth time this season they've ended an episode with someone in the white house on the phone with a terrorist isn't it? Who are they goint to pull this schtick with next? Chloe? An undead Edgar?

darin (darin), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 21:42 (twenty years ago)

haha complaints that the show's going too far = evidence of its success

surely this is much better than the like three episodes where the entire administration sort of wondered about whether or not to reveal the plans of a presidential motorcade

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 21:44 (twenty years ago)

hmm, the nerve gas is something that doesn't kill but only puts people in a sort of comatose state halfway between dead and alive, and after ten hours they're back in undead form? edgar is probably hiding out in that sinister computer room of death.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 21:46 (twenty years ago)

If they'd add zombies to season 5 all would be forgiven.

darin (darin), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Who are you Darin, Fezaffe in disguise?

Buchanan has really been uping his game this year, I hope he comes back.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 00:18 (twenty years ago)

He'll probably turn into a terrorist because he's been betrayed by Audrey.

Apparently the twist that Logan is a baddie was planned from the very beginning and wasn't just some shit the writers made up off the top of their heads.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 04:28 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha wait, so are they saying that Frodo, Michelle, David and Edgar are all coming back but Tony (who got a lethal injection) is toast for good?????

Dan (Wow) Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 11:00 (twenty years ago)

I must have missed the "not actually dead" part of the show???

This episode was maybe my favorite episode of 24 ever, mainly because of the ludicrous Homeland Security takeover of CTU. "Beep bloop, take me to your workstation, human." There was just so much outlandish crap! And it was one of those rare episodes where suspicion falls on almost everyone.

One question I had - what the hell happened to Mike Novick?

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

What the hell happened to C. Thomas Howell?!

darin (darin), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 21:02 (twenty years ago)

He must have been hit with some kind of goatee stick.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 6 April 2006 05:15 (twenty years ago)

So Evelyn & daughter seem to have gotten the Dina Araz off-screen killing treatment... not really sure how I feel about offing the kid. I don't know, but the killings of sympathetic characters are getting to me. I kinda felt bad that Mossman, out of all random characters, didn't make it. I think the cumulative blood on Jack's hands is starting to bother, especially since his idea of remorse seems to be simply saying "dammit" and move on.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 11 April 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

I promise you that when Jack says "dammit," he really means it.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Hooking up with the new-business dudes and the design dirextors is the usual answer. Unless you're a mole, which is like pornalyst catnip apparently.

Seriously, had Jack not just left whats-er-name - the First Lady's ice-hard lackey - with her daughter both to die like dogs in their hotel room, there wouldn't have been any trouble at the bank at all. I thought that was just very poor form all around.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 13:39 (twenty years ago)

He should have at least gagged the kid so there was no way she could blab their whereabouts to the authorities.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 13:41 (twenty years ago)

M. V. (M.V.), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

this show has completely dipped into preposterous territory but at least they acknowledged this by playing cheesy spy guitar music over the ending of the last episode.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 01:54 (twenty years ago)

So I whole-heartedly apologize to the writers of this show for doubting their crazy-ass "Logan is the bad guy" twist, because 1) the show seems way more watchable and awesome now, and 2) it led to Buchanan, Chloe, and Wayne all playing Mini-CTU at Bill's house. But where the hell is Curtis? They'll need him if they want to send out any Mini-TAC teams!

I hope Aaron isn't dead but I'm not optimistic.

Trace, it was more of a complaint addressed to Sean Callery, not a statement of fact.

I have to say this season has been entertaining but so far it seems like this is the first year where you really don't need to watch from the beginning to comprehend it all. Every couple episodes the plots seems to shift/resolve to a new area, as compared to previous seasons, where it might happen only twice (e.g. season 2's switch from nuclear bomb hunt to debating over u.s. war retaliation.) Less big picture, more indivual episodes. But there were signs of that last season too.

The new head shadowy cabal honcho was a baddie in ROBOCOP. It's all starting to come together. Also, I thought at first he was Toby Young, but I don't think that's relevant.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 27 April 2006 09:04 (twenty years ago)

Season 5 hasn't come out here yet in Australia, but I have heard so much and i'm so excited and so sad :'[ I heard that Tony and Michella die which is WRONG SO WRONG! :[ they have been my fave since FOREVER! well tony was and when Michella came season 2 XD

Delinda, Saturday, 29 April 2006 11:40 (twenty years ago)

This is all very exciting but why doesn't Jack just play the recording down the phone to Chloe or CTU?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:21 (twenty years ago)

look we all know how calls can be dropped. what if jack is using verizon?

gear (gear), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

24 film to be shot in LONDON

Alba (Alba), Friday, 5 May 2006 09:17 (twenty years ago)

last two episodes were awesome! although I find it hard to believe chloe didn't copy the recording to a hard drive.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:12 (twenty years ago)

Miles is such a wet fart.

That I didn't see the "call from the governor" reprieve for Logan coming from that mile-long stretch of freeway is either a testament to the Logan actor's performance (& my total immersion in it) (sic?)or a testament to my own obliviousness.

But, yeah, always back up your data, CHLOE! *eye roll*

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:17 (twenty years ago)

chloe repeatedly stun-gunning the guy in the hotel bar was a highpoint as well

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:20 (twenty years ago)

i was feeling a curtis double-cross for a second there

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:20 (twenty years ago)

and is it just me or is chloe looking and sounding more and more like an anime character?

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:21 (twenty years ago)

JACK LOOK OUT! = INUYASHA!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Did anybody notice how Chloe suddenly turned kinda dumb in last week's episode? I think that's the tell-tale sign that the writers are finally admitting their hots for her.

This week's was up there with the best of any of the previous seasons. I mean, any episode where Jack takes the fucking controls of a plane away from a trained pilot is a cracker. "DESCEND NOW!!" cut to co-pilot shitting his pants. There's a moment in every season when the show, perpetually teetering on the brink of parody just falls off it whole-hog and that was it.

This week was the first time I ever notice just how CHASTE Jack is. Can anyone even imagine him kissing someone??

"WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR FOREPLAY"

Alba (Alba), Friday, 12 May 2006 18:34 (twenty years ago)

But I am gonna rub that knee of yours until you love me again!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 12 May 2006 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Dude, she lost a lot of blood!

Also, that knee was really hot.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 12 May 2006 18:41 (twenty years ago)

She is pretty zonked out, it almost wouldn't be fair to give her "The Full Jack" in that condition.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 12 May 2006 18:52 (twenty years ago)

SHE GOT THE FULL JACK*

* The Full Jack = donkey punch & hot lunch, followed by a Presidential pardon

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 12 May 2006 18:56 (twenty years ago)

I mean, the information that her dad survived a self-immolating drive off a cliff elicits a brief smile and that's about it. Can you imagine the psychic damage a kiss from Jack's puckered lips would bring?

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 12 May 2006 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Dude, she lost a LOT of blood!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 12 May 2006 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Jack is so chaste because Audrey Raines is like she-Jack, it would be like some weird kind of incest.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 19 May 2006 03:53 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, this week's episode was a weird letdown from the magisterial greatness of the previous one. It all got messy and physical - Aaron, the erased tape.. Jack getting overruled by Buchanan and Hayes was pretty unprecedented. It was fascinating watching Keifer's face in that scene, it was like he didn't know how to act. Every scene he'd been in before was just about threatening people or whatever and in that scene he had to fight for what he wanted even though he - Sutherland - knew that the script wasn't going to give it to him, and it wasn't because of someone else's fuck-up it was because his character was just wrong about things. That's acting. He did OK at it, but not great.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 20 May 2006 04:47 (twenty years ago)

Mary Lynn Rajskub is on Regis & Kelly this Monday.

The second half of this season has been soooo much better than the first.

I also loved Curtis trying to be elated when telling Audrey her father was still alive. It's so atypical (and a bit uncomfortable?) to seem him breaking into an emotion/personality.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 20 May 2006 05:38 (twenty years ago)

Shanghai Surprise!! I knew that shoe was likely to drop at the end of the season, but it sets up potential awesome Manchurian Candidate-type Jack next year.

timmy tannin (pompous), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 04:35 (twenty years ago)

Maybe C. Thomas Howell will come back!!!!

darin (darin), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 04:49 (twenty years ago)

ah crap, a double episode!! downloading NOW

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Tracer: it was the President.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

manchurian candidate jack would be kinda awesome.

I was thinking the chinese would have Kim when he took that phone call at the end, I can't believe we were spared her for the whole season.

Chloe's ex coming in was really bizarre and random, I liked the rest though.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

THIS. FUCKING. SHOW.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 22:41 (twenty years ago)

Another happy customer!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 01:12 (twenty years ago)

I like the vision of a de-brained Jack, chip implanted in neck, doing a "bad Superman" routine all over CTU.

The penultimate hour was crackerjack, you couldn't believe just 20 minutes had gone by when the first commercial break cut in. Last hour something of a let-down. Not sure why. The "reveal" of Martha and Jack's plan at the end was delicious though and I think was the first time we have ever had some of Jack's super-clever handiwork hidden from us until a dramatically explosive moment - it's like the writers finally realized they can play around with when the audience gets information.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 25 May 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

nah actually they showed the pen switch.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

when??

gear (gear), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Ah it must have been when he was taking stuff out of the Prez's pockets?? Knowing what kind of pen the President uses - that's why he's Jack and we're not.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

But still - we weren't told about how Jack and Martha were in cahoots about it. Her tarmac meltdown seemed real.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:41 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I missed it too, my husband caught it though. I didn't even think about Jack having to know what kind of pen Logan normally has!

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I can't wait for next season when Jack saves the day only to be kidnapped by the German dude.

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Thursday, 25 May 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

I just love that Martha's use of sex tactics to delay the Preznit lasted all of 2-3 minutes. Figures he sucks in bed, tho.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:39 (twenty years ago)

hahaha i totally forgot to mention that, is it even 2 or 3 minutes long or is it even less?? by the time we've seen them dressing again you have to figure at least 30 seconds has passed

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm being kind in saying it was 2-3 minutes. God Bless Martha.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 25 May 2006 18:56 (twenty years ago)

The last timestamp we see in Ep. 23 says "54:46". The time elapsed between then and the moment the camera finally leaves them to their own devices is an even 4:44, putting them behind closed doors at the 59:30 mark. Given the fact that in the next show we see President Logan putting on his cufflinks at what we can assume is the top of the hour, since it's the first "live" scene we see and directly follows Keifer's subway-conductor-esque "the following takes place between..." we can take, oh, 20 seconds off for getting off the bed and into his presidential shirtsleeves. Keeping in mind that no time has been taken off for foreplay or anything - we're assuming that the very moment the camera's not on them they're suddenly humping like hyenas - Logan turns out to be a 10-second lover.

Rather poor show by Martha, then, too, to be honest.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

I think this season has a little bit of an edge over Season 5, although it took nearly 9 or 10 episodes to really get going.

However the show now *really* needs some new, strong characters next year after killing off three of their best ones this year. The only one who seemed to raise his game this year was Buchanan. I'm perpetually meh on Audrey and Curtis was a bit of a snore this year.
