I've noticed that Limbaugh's show was becoming a little less muscular and hard hitting. It's like the wind went out of his sails. His rhetoric is a little flaccid. He's been limping through these past few weeks. He's been trying to pump up his sagging ratings to no avail.

Technically, it does. Per AP: "Rush Limbaugh could see a deal with prosecutors in a long-running prescription fraud case collapse after authorities found a bottle of Viagra in his bag at Palm Beach International Airport. The prescription was not in his name."

Also of note for latecoming prospective rofflers: Viagra in the personal effects of an unmarried man travelling alone on holiday in the Dominican Republic.

They're fabulous people, starting with National Review Online, then Hugh Hewitt and his Townhall blog, Captain Ed, Ed Morrissey at Captain's Quarters. The three lawyers at Power Line. These are resources that I have added to everything else that I use for show prep which makes show prep an ongoing, never ending thing. Red State is another site.(I hope I don't forget anybody.) Little Green Footballs. I don't want to leave any out. A.J. Strata, Strata-Sphere. I don't want to leave anybody out here. The American Spectator. You here me talking about these. I'm referring to two days' worth of posts on this one site.
...
I knew I was going to do it. I left out some blogger names that I routinely read. One of them is Michelle Malkin, and she's just fabulous and extremely valuable. The American Thinker, which I cite and quote on this program constantly, and Debbie Schlussel-- and I'm sure there are more.

Rush Limbaugh too stupid to use a computer, or at least, search a PDF:

LIMBAUGH: In addition, they have reformatted the bill -- they've made it a PDF file when they posted it. Now, for those of you that don't use computers, basically what that means is that it cannot be keyword searched. A PDF file is essentially a picture of a page. And, so, you can read every page, but you cannot keyword search it. It's not a text file as legislation normally is as posted on these public websites. They don't want anybody knowing what's in this; they want it happening as fast as possible so nobody can know what's in it.

PDF file in question.

thanx to the washingtonian: batshit crazy ol' pat robertson thinks limbaugh is out of line for wishing that president obama fails:

Robertson told U.S. News that he wants to give President Obama "the benefit of every doubt, and I definitely hope he succeeds." Dan Gilgoff followed up, asking, "So, you don't subscribe to Rush Limbaugh's 'I hope he fails' school of thought?" Robertson responded:

"That was a terrible thing to say. I mean, he's the president of all the country. If he succeeds, the country succeeds. And if he doesn't, it hurts us all. Anybody who would pull against our president is not exactly thinking rationally."

Rush Limbaugh completely OTM in that clip above, especially in regard to callers. You wouldn't believe how many hosts who will be on a pretty coherent train of thought that will immediately throw on the brakes and bring their show to a grinding halt because they see a phone call coming in on the control room screen.

"Hello, caller? Hello? Did they hang -- Caller? Thought they were there again for a moment. Oh, well. 800-345-TALK if you're still out there somewhere. Now where was I? Oh, yes, the effect the stimulus package will have on St. Louis' economy..."

rush is mock-heroic and grandiose and all, and while i'm sure he has a high opinion of himself i don't think he buys into his spiel even as he expects his audience to do so. o'reilly/olberman/hannity/savage do a lot of bullshit riffing too but i hear them as being more 'into it'. rush would be most like ann coulter in that respect, in my opinion, though her persona is more spiteful than self-aggrandizing.

Rush is nearing total incoherency, I can't even begin to untangle the logic here

Hat Trick Swayze (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 September 2009 21:35 (fourteen years ago) link

“If homosexuality being inborn is what makes it acceptable, why does racism being inborn not make racism acceptable?” the talk show host asked. “I’m sorry — I mean, this is the way my mind works. But apparently now we don’t choose racism, we just are racists. We are born that way. We don’t choose it. So shouldn’t it be acceptable, excuse — this is according to the way the left thinks about things."

Hat Trick Swayze (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 September 2009 21:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Referring to an incident in which a white student was beaten by black students on a bus, Limbaugh said: “I think the guy’s wrong. I think not only it was racism, it was justifiable racism. I mean, that’s the lesson we’re being taught here today. Kid shouldn’t have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses — it was invading space and stuff. This is Obama’s America.”

I listened to the linked audio clip. It was incoherent, but I didn't think he was calling for segregated buses. He was mocking Pres. Obama. That is, I thought he was sarcastically saying "In Obama's new America, we ought to have segregated buses, to keep the racist white kids away from the innocent black kids." Now, that's also bats--t crazy, but I got the impression from reading the comments upthread that Limbaugh was saying that white kids need to be on separate buses to protect them from violent black kids. Frankly, I assume he would say something like that. But I didn't hear him say it in the clip.

I just didn't hear him do so in that audio clip.

http://contexts.org/socimages/2009/09/19/rush-limbaugh-lets-resegregate-buses/

I don’t think he himself is actually calling for segregated buses here, I think he’s saying that in “Obama’s America,” we’re supposed to believe it was perfectly okay for Black kids to beat up a White kid, and that probably the White kid shouldn’t even be there. It was more of his hyperbolic “Black people are in charge and are calling all the shots now” rant. It’s more of the expression of “White people, fear for your lives!” panic that illustrates that there’s a lot more discomfort with a Black president (and the symbolic change in race relations) that we might have thought after the outpouring of support at the Inauguration and his first couple of months in office.

So many, like Mark and myself, have personal stories about Rush's kind generosity. But there are millions of people who have never met him who are e-mailing me today telling me they went to morning Mass with his intention in mind, that they have their whole family praying for him, wanting him to rest and be back for more excellence in broadcasting for years to come. It's really a beautiful and remarkable thing to see how much of an impact he's made on their lives. These aren't talking heads. These are folks who try to listen in their cars, in their offices, at home. These are his fans, who are grateful to him, and who love the man. It's not a cult-like American Idol phenom. It's real, based on over two decades now of earning loyalty, through talent and hard work. The man devours, processes, and analyzes information like few others I've ever encounteres — and we know around these parts quite a few who do such things for a living!

So we have a teacher barricaded in a classroom with no students. No children. No students anywhere around. And starts firing some shots. Barricaded in the classroom. And then here comes some cops and nab the guy is in custody and we got a breaking new stories: “Teacher in Custody After Georgia Police Respond to Report of Shots Fired.”

What are you thinking? When you heard me say this, folks, what were you thinking? What was running through your mind when you heard this? Come on. Be honest. Oh, of course this will be the argument we use for not arming teachers, but what if the whole thing’s a setup to create that very — what if the teacher is a radical leftist and does this to give the drive-bys a news story that they can then point to. “See, we can’t arm teachers.”

i'm amused that whenever i hear one of him or his fellow Teabag goons on the radio, they hardly ever take calls, and it's always a worshipper on the line. This kind of radio used to thrive on screaming matches, not sermons and hosannas.

“Republicans just don’t do this kind of thing. Even though every event, like mass shootings, remember, every mass shooting there is, the Democrats in the media try to make everybody think right off the bat that some tea partier did it, or some talk radio fan did it, or some Fox News viewer did it. Turns out, it’s never, ever the case. Not one of these bombs went off.

“And if a Democrat operative’s purpose here is to make it look like, hey, you know, there are mobs everywhere, the mobs are not just Democrat mobs. I mean, look at this, you’ve got people here trying to harm CNN, and Obama, and Hillary and Bill Clinton, and Debbie blabbermouth Schultz. It just — it might serve a purpose here.”

“Wait until it is discovered that homosexuality is genetic, and wait until prospective parents could be told that their child might be gay at birth. You know who’s going to do the fastest 180 from pro-choice to pro-life? The entire homosexual community is going to become pro-life overnight. I’m just telling you, you start cheapening life this way, and then you cheapen it even further by claiming a baby isn’t even a person, a baby is not a human being, then, folks, you’re next.

“We’re all next, depending on how much power they get, and the basis on which they determine who gets to live and who doesn’t. And what if down the road, a bunch of liberals decide, you know, rather than have to put up with a bunch of opposition, a bunch of conservatives, let’s just wipe them out. You think that will never happen. It can happen.”

"He's there to get the United States out of meaningless relationships. It's one of the reasons he was elected. It's one of the big points that reverberated with the American people. And to do this, Trump had to take on the entire United States foreign policy national security apparatus who were much in favor of the status quo. Trump wanted to upend it. So there were two things. Trump's not wanting to just, without any concerns or assurances, they don't want to fund a regime that's not going to reform itself. He doesn't want to perpetuate corruption and all kinds of dangerous stuff being done with U.S. money. It makes perfect sense that he would ask for some sign that they were serious about reform before providing U.S. aid -- which was ultimately provided, by the way.

So, the context of this is that Trump knows he's dealing with a regime, a nation, that has just been led by a very corrupt bunch that's been voted out. That corrupt bunch was working to undermine his election, working with the DOJ, the Obama DOJ, the FBI, and all that. Of course he's not going to trust these people. He's going to have to see some indication that they are serious about reforming before they get U.S. aid. He's not just going to provide it willy-nilly. And so asking for some kind of show that the Ukrainian new President Zelensky is serious is part of the deal. He's just not going to write him a blank check. There was no quid pro quo...."

even if you somehow swallow all of that, you have to believe that trump was willing to take the risk of tasking a backchannel group (led by the smartest man he knew, rudy giuliani) to take on the near and dear subject of corruption in Ukraine, and that it just happened to be Ukraine, and the subject of his earnest effort to reduce corruption in Ukraine juuuuust happened to be a Biden.

“We’re shutting down our country because of the — the cold virus, which is what coronaviruses are. This is COVID-19, the 19th version of the coronavirus. We’re shutting it — can you imagine our enemies watching this? You think the Chinese are not laughing themselves silly over how easy this has been? And it continues. This has been easy.

“Can you imagine — Vladimir Putin’s sitting over there, ‘Look, I tried to ruin Donald Trump with this stupid story about he and I colluding to steal the election from Hillary. And I worked with the FBI and I was working with the CIA and I was planting all kinds of stuff, and that went nowhere. And the Chi-Coms run this scam on some sort of virus, and the Americans do this?!'”

COVID-19 is actually named for 2019, the year it emerged, not because it’s the “19th version” of anything.
