By CATHERINE TSAI, Associated Press Writer
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The leader of the influential National Association of Evangelicals, a vocal opponent of the drive for same-sex marriage, resigned Thursday after being accused of paying for sex with a man. The Rev. Ted Haggard also stepped aside as head of his 14,000-member New Life Church while a church panel investigates, saying he could "not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations."
The investigation came after a 49-year-old man told a Denver radio station that Haggard paid him to have sex.
Haggard, a married father of five, denied the allegations in an interview with KUSA-TV late Wednesday: "Never had a gay relationship with anybody, and I'm steady with my wife, I'm faithful to my wife."
In a written statement, Haggard said: "I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity. I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date. In the interim, I will seek both spiritual advice and guidance."
Mike Jones, 49, told The Associated Press that Haggard paid him to have sex nearly every month for three years. His allegations were first aired on KHOW-AM in Denver.
Jones said that he had advertised himself as an escort on the Internet and that a man who called himself Art contacted him. Jones said he later saw the man on television identified as Haggard.
He said that he last had sex with Haggard in August and that he did not warn him before making his allegations this week.
Jones said he has voice mail messages from Haggard, as well as an envelope he said Haggard used to mail him cash, though he declined to make any of it available to the AP.
"There's some stuff on there (the voice mails) that's pretty damning," he said.
Richard Cizik, vice president for government affairs for the evangelicals association, expressed shock.
"Is this something I can imagine of Ted Haggard? No," he said.
Carolyn Haggard, spokeswoman for the New Life Church, said a four-member church panel will investigate the allegations. She did not identify the board members.
"This is really routine when any sort of situation like this arises, so we're prepared," she said. "The church is going to continue to serve and be welcoming to our community. That's a priority."

The only person to deliberately address the camera and make meta-commentary about the fact he's being filmed is Ted Haggard, President of the National Association of Evangelicals, who grabs the camera and jokes: "I think I know what you did last night! If you send me a thousand dollars I won't tell your wife!" He -- and the crowd -- laugh, and then he gives the kicker: "If you use any of this, I'll sue you." He's kidding, but it doesn't feel funny.

I don't think it's pessimistic to think it's more likely this will result in to paranoia of THE ENEMY WITHIN and serious witch-hunting.
The upside is it may result in hilarity, what with Dimmesdale-esque self-flagellating closet cases, and (with any luck) the Evangelical church screening hardcore gay porn and judging erectile response to find aforementioned ENEMY WITHIN.
uh... or not. I should stop projecting my fantasies now.

I don't see how that's even an issue. This guy has made a profession out of (in part) demonising homosexuality, so he is a huge hypocrite. It is he who has dragged his family and church into the issue through his own hypocrisy. Jones has no responsibility to protect him from himself.

and also the movement he represents and of which he has been a high-profile standard-bearer has been dragging the whole country through a nasty fight over civil rights in which they are -- by my judgment, and probably history's -- entirely and viciously in the wrong. he's a public figure whose power is partly based on encouraging bigotry and intolerance, so while i can have sympathy for him as an obviously deeply confused man, i can't feel bad about his loss of stature and authority. he was actively using it for bad ends.

Now Satan has Wal-Mart in his line of fire!
This legacy of faith and love for Jesus Christ by Mr. Walton is being trashed before our very eyes!
After being lambasted for years by the anti-family, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, radical environmental left, Wal-Mart has finally succumbed to this constant harassment and blackmail. She has now chosen a policy of appeasement to assuage all of the false accusations leveled against her in hopes that the devil will somehow stop being so mean. It is sad to say that Wal-Mart has joined the The National Gay & Lesbian, Chamber of Commerce.
The NGCC called Wal-Mart's action "part of the company's ongoing commitment to advancing diversity (homosexuality) among all of its associate, supplier and customer bases."
The NGCC desires that the world's largest retailer would also become the world's largest promoter of homosexual sodomy!
Wal-Mart desperately needs our help! There is something that we can do. It requires that we get out of the closet and run toward the roar!
WE MUST SAVE WAL-MART!

Hi,
I am one of those people who is no longer shopping at Wal-Mart, but as I talk with other Christians I often get the response that they're going to continue shopping at Wal-Mart because probably all of the other stores we would shop at in place of Wal-Mart are also doing sinful things and/or supporting gay and lesbian groups etc. What is your response to this? Do you know if Kmart supports gays and lesbians? Do you have a list of businesses which Christians can support in good conscience?
I believe if I can address this issue I could be more effective in encouraging people not to support Wal-Mart.
Thank you,
Eileen K.
Hi Eileen,
Why Wal-Mart? It's very true that many other stores have also been bullied into supporting gay issues and have engaged in other evils, but Wal-Mart is special. It is the single largest private employer in America with 1.3 million employees. It is the largest retailer and the largest privately-owned retailer in America , with 127 million weekly customers. It boasts a $300 BILLION a year business . Wal-Mart is the biggest in everything! And it started out under Sam Walton as a godly, family-friendly operation. If we can fight and win at Wal-Mart, we'll be sending a strong message to other companies that they too need the support of American families to succeed and they won't get it by stomping on our values and encouraging and promoting those things that God abhors.
I hope this helps!
God bless your efforts for His kingdom.
Brenda/OSA

But in a news conference after the service, the head of the oversight board, Pastor Larry Stockstill of Baton Rouge, La., told reporters that Haggard denied engaging in homosexual acts or being gay. Stockstill said Haggard's admission that he received a massage from a gay man was enough grounds for the board to remove him.
At the same time, Stockstill said the board found discrepancies in Haggard's account. He did not go into detail.
"(Haggard) is not in touch with truth and reality, and he readily admitted that," Stockstill said.
A separate pastoral board, still being formed, will work further with Haggard to explore his sexual issues in more depth, Stockstill said.

He sat in on a conference call w/ Bush and other Evangelical leaders every Monday. He was in no way Bush's "top spiritual advisor," and despite the calls and meeting him in person, hardly influential at all in the Whilte House's policy making. He was more or less used in turning out the Evangelical vote. Its not like he was hooking Cheney up with meth and giving Bush BJ's.
I saw Jesus Camp this weekend and CAN NOT BELIEVE it isn't getting name-checked in every story about Haggard seing as though he's seen preaching a sermon on homosexuality in it.

That Driscoll entry gets pretty nuts in places, but for a man of the cloth to impose ragulations on himself such as "dont be alone with women" isn't any different from rules about High School teachers not giving rides home to students.
Not hysteria so much as being smart about the position you're in, and the potential for something fucked up to go down.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. High school teachers aren't supposed to give rides home to students mostly because they have no good reason to fraternize with students outside of their work. (Also because the students are minors over whom teachers have extensive power.) For a man of the cloth to impose regulations on himself such as "don't be alone with women" would be more like ... a male teacher who tutors boys after school, but refuses to meet with a girl during study hall to discuss her grade.

fwiw, my father has been a (much more moderate) Evangelical minister for 25 years and has never been alone with a woman who wasn't his secretary or someone in his family. I've never asked him, but I think he imposed that after the Swaggert thing.
(Please spare me the jokes about if my mom puts out.)
Nabisco, i suppose "alone" would be defined as "no one else is present, on the premesis, or witnessing our engaging with eachother." My father meets in private with female members of his congregation to discuss things, but someone always knows about it and sees the visitor come and go. Its not OMG MUST CONTROLL PENIS so much as realizing that you're somewhat vulnerable in a position like that.

yeah, that's the bit that other folks have talked about, and i might have even mentioned. That the hilariosly negative view these folks have about gay people, w/ all the pathological stereotypes & whatnot, is that the only gay people they ever come in contact with are those w/in their own midst who have had to repress so much for so long. Agreed!
Yeah, Grady, but like you say, that's an issue of deniability and ass-covering -- protecting yourself against accusation and slander -- rather than an issue of avoiding temptation.
You're half right. The other half is the fact that there are people who are drawn to those in a leadership position, be it a priest, minister, CEO, president, whatevs. People who actually wish to engage in some kind of behavior innapropriate of someone in that kind of role, NOT just make false accuations that are impossible to disprove. And when you're in that position, it can catch you off guard and you can fuck up. Again, we agree on Driscoll going way too far in this direction and placing blame on spouses who "let themselves go." My initial point was just that being aware of the potential for both slander AND tempation (not the kind of OMG I HOPE THAT HOT LADY IN THE 2nd PEW STOPS IN TODAY temptation, more the kind that can catch someone off-guard) is very real. I was just getting a little bothered that the sentiment was "hahaha xians r afraid sexx lolz."
If Haggard's unblinking congregation could sit and listen to such a liturgical Liberace week after week and not realize they were in the presence of someone who makes Barry Manilow in a full-length mink look butch, they really need to recalibrate their ability to detect prescription-strength doses of flamboyance.
OTM x100,000,000,000. In Jesus Camp he speaks of a life in Christ being FABULOUS. I swear I'm not making that up.
it just cements the link in people's mind between homosexuality and secret sordid activity
This is why i was unrealistically hoping Haggard could be a key person/symbol in changing the shape of homosexuality and religion in this country. Sadly, it will only reinforce cuurent views.

Well, the really unfortunate thing is that this country is full of well-adjusted gay couples who are Christians, and yet the evangelicals' rhetoric ensures that they'll never come into contact with them. (This would seem to be by design, actually: I assume the fear is that sharing anything with gay people -- trying to acknowledge common values at all -- will lead to GOD FORBID noticing that they tend to be decent human beings like anyone else.) The only way you can get that kind of example you're talking about would be ... well, the fairly unrealistic scenario of an unmarried clergyman being discovered as having a secret committed gay partner and raising adopted children in blissful good-citizen happiness?

Perhaps.
My fantasy scenerio was more along the lines of Haggard getting a divorce, dropping out of the spotlight for a number of years and then re-emerging as a homosexusal religious leader 100x more powerful than Vermont bishop guy. He cerntainly has a knack for leadership, and one would like to think that if he can build a congregation of 14,000 and have conference calls with the president while preaching homophobia that he can do the same as an openly gay man. One would like to think that the 14,000 member congregation, the 30mil association, all the political connections had less to do with his anti-gay anti-abortion stance than who he is as a communicator. The medium is the message, bro.
I know I'm sounding like I think Haggard is the best thing evah minus the pro-family rhetoric.
It's all just wishful thinking.

But Old Testament the story of Soddom and Gommorah is terribly misinterprited as a story about God hating teh ghey when its really a story about God punishing bloodthirsty rapists (hetero or homo).
― researching ur life (grady), Monday, 6 November 2006 21:32 (seventeen years ago) link
but I agree in general abt the narrow interpretation of the story as being specifically homosexuality. Tho I believe there are several other OT passages commonly cited as "proof" that god hates fags. I forget where, Leviticus...? so many OT "laws"...

Leviticus 18:22 "You [masculine] shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."
Leviticus 20:13 "If a man lies with a male as a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them."
Now Jesus, for his part, did explicitly deny the necessity to follow all the rules laid down in the OT, so you can ostensibly combine that rejection of Jewish moral traditions with his "hey I love everybody" attitude and extrapolate from there that he woulda been cool with Rip Taylor or whoever, but I think we should all be able to agree that that's stretching it quite a bit.

It should also be noted that there is a considerably large movment within Evangelical churches to admit that the ways in which the church has dealt with honosexuals hasn't been Christ-Like©. This movment seeks some kind of reparations with the Gay community and encourages openly homosexual families into thier churches in order to treat them as Jesus would have and perhaps gain understanding from them... but still defines homosexuality as a sin only redeemable through a life in Christ.
It's a nice sentiment, but if you're only going half way, just fucking forget about it.
Shakey OTM re: Chick tract on Soddom and Gommorah.
Re: other OT passages, yes there's at least one in Leviticus. There's a hilarious "Open Letter to Dr. Laura" floating around the net where someone goes "gee, thanks for setting me straight on Leviticus' commandments regarding homosexuality. Can you set me straight on a few more?" ...and goes on to ask her stance on shearing sheep, disposal of moldy clothing, stoning of adulterers, and other things Leviticus goes into inane depth on. quite teh funny.

Dear Cecil:
While eating graham crackers recently, we were discussing the myth that they were invented to keep girls from engaging in, uh, self-abuse. Is this true? How were they supposed to work? Didn't Graham realize he might frustrate an entire generation? --Chris C. and Frank L., Washington, D.C.
Cecil replies:
Frustrate, nothing. Health lecturer Sylvester Graham (1794-1851) was trying to save shattered lives--not just of women, but everybody who suffered from what Graham referred to variously as "venereal excess" or "aching sensibility." Graham thought intense physical desire, no matter how expressed and regardless of whether you were married or not, was guaranteed to have dire physiological consequences.
A forebear of the hairy-palms-and-blindness school of moral instruction, Graham said excessive carnal exercise would cause indigestion, headache, feebleness of circulation, pulmonary consumption, spinal diseases, epilepsy, insanity, and early death of offspring, among other things. He thought men should remain virgins until age 30 and then should make love only once a month--not at all if they were sickly.
To control lust, Graham prescribed a special vegetarian diet, the centerpiece of which was "Graham bread," made from whole wheat flour. Graham crackers, which Graham invented in 1829, were another manifestation of the same idea.
Graham attracted a fair number of followers, who opened Graham boardinghouses in New York and Boston where his dietary regimen was observed. But most people regarded him as a nut. He was assaulted by mobs on at least three occasions, once by butchers and bakers who thought he was going to drive them out of business. He was cranky and aloof and alienated even those who admired him, so much so that he gave up the lecture business in 1839 and lived out the last years of his life in relative obscurity.
His saving grace was that in many important respects he was right. Although he was a little goofy on the question of sex, many of his ideas about health were sound. He advocated daily toothbrushing, once considered a revolutionary idea, as well as fresh air, regular bathing, exercise, and seven hours of sleep. During an era of recurring cholera epidemics he urged people to drink pure water.
Most important, we now know the diet he recommended to be vastly more healthy than the one Americans were eating at the time, or for that matter eat today. He railed against commercial bakers who used refined flour devoid of dietary fiber. He urged the consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and seeds. Strictly verboten were fat, salt, sugar, tobacco, alcohol, and stimulants. Modern dieticians aren't as strongly opposed to meat as he was (although they'd certainly advise fish and poultry rather than red meat), and they'd go easy on the fat- and cholesterol-laden milk, cheese, and eggs he recommended. But by and large "the prophet of bran bread and pumpkins" was right on the money.
One more thing: if you were starting to feel virtuous because you eat graham crackers, don't. Despite the name, most brands of "graham cracker" today use refined white flour. If you want the real thing (more or less), try the Health Valley or New Morning brands, which can be found in health food stores. They use whole wheat flour, soy oil, unsulfured molasses, and no preservatives.

I, state your name, promise to the best of my ability not to dress, buy clothes or act like a Ho. Clothes I should try to avoid buying or wearing: tight pants that are cut so low that when I bend over you can see my g-string or butt crack, tight half shirts that show my six or not-so-six pack, tight shirts that are low cut to show my cleavage or short shorts that you can see my butt cheeks in.
I know that God desires me to glorify him in all things and I realize that by dressing like a Ho, I only desire to give glory to me, not God. I also know boys have a problem with sexual things and I know that by not dressing like a Ho, I can be a part of the solution, not the problem!

37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 37:40

Then, as if things could not get worse, there was the disgrace of Sheldon’s own friend and colleague, Rev. Ted Haggard, the Colorado mega-church leader and president of the National Association of Evangelicals, an even bigger pillar of Republican support on the Christian right. Sheldon disclosed that he and “a lot” of others knew about Haggard’s homosexuality “for awhile ... but we weren’t sure just how to deal with it.”
Months before a male prostitute publicly revealed Haggard’s secret relationship with him, and the reverend’s drug use as well, “Ted and I had a discussion,” explained Sheldon, who said Haggard gave him a telltale signal then: “He said homosexuality is genetic. I said, no it isn’t. But I just knew he was covering up. They need to say that.”

Other "treatments" included:brain surgery in the form of frontal lobotomies.castration.counseling and psychotherapy.drug therapy: e.g. animal-organ extracts, cocaine, estrogen, testosterone.positive therapy: e.g. men were asked to masturbate and then were shown pictures of women just before orgasm.prayer and spiritual counseling.therapy by tedium: men were shown homoerotic pictures until they became totally bored.During the Nazi regime in Germany, Himmler attempted to "cure" gays by requiring them to visit the camp brothel at Flossenburg. "Ten Ravensbruck women provided the services with little success. The women [were later]...shipped to Auschwitz" for execution.bullet During the recent apartheid regime in South Africa, gays and lesbians were considered deviants. They were sent to a special ward of a military hospital to be "rehabilitated." This involved electric shock treatments and chemical castration. Those who could not be "cured" were given sex-change operations. A number of "patients" died.
The success rate of these therapies in actually changing clients' sexual orientation appears to have been between 0% and something less than 0.1%. The success rate at changing clients' sexual behavior is much greater. Some of these techniques can persuade homosexuals to be celibate, either through terror, guilt, or persuasion that God considers same-sex behavior to be an abomination. They can persuade bisexuals to confine their sexual activities to members of the opposite sex. They may even be able to train gays to successfully have sex with a woman, while fantasize about making love to another man. But therapies do not seem to be capable of changing one's feelings -- one's sexual orientation -- in the vast majority of people.

(1) To avoid the impropriety of male homosexuality, a heterosexual couple should not under any circumstances form a threesome with another man. (2) Both women involved in the threesome must be willing to keep within traditional female roles (i.e., not taking on masculine appearance or behavior in or out of the bedroom) and recognize the male as the leader in the relationship. (3) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is unmarried, it may be permissible for the husband to have relations with her only with his wife’s consent. (4) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is unmarried, but the wife does not wish her to have relations with the other woman, the husband should respect this. (5) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is married, her husband must not have objections to the relationship. (6) If the wife’s lesbian sex partner is married, the husband should refrain from having any sexual relations with her, and should make every effort to control his fantasies about her. He should concentrate his attention on his own wife.

Back for the attack!
As guests parked in his snow-crusted field and carried chocolate chip cookies and jugs of apple juice into the barn, he greeted them enthusiastically. "Look, everybody," Haggard announced when one person arrived with a special treat: "Chocolate cake!"As the service began, he was jovial, even joking about his indiscretion. "If you're not getting enough snuggling [from your spouse], don't do it the way I did it," he said.
As the service began, he was jovial, even joking about his indiscretion. "If you're not getting enough snuggling [from your spouse], don't do it the way I did it," he said.
Also:
The rejection by friends and church members made his situation more painful, Haggard said. He did not name New Life, but spoke critically of people focused too intently on religion and rules instead of God. "When you get yourself in trouble, are they going to draw near to you? No, they're going to disappear. They're going to judge you," he said.H.B. London, the vice president of church and clergy at Focus on the Family and a former member of Haggard's restoration team, criticized Haggard's decision to start a new church located so close to New Life as insensitive and premature.London said he'd heard from many pastors who don't think Haggard is ready to lead a congregation again, asserting that Haggard didn't complete the restoration process and was still in need of counseling. But London said it doesn't surprise him that Haggard can attract followers. "He was a hero to many people, and people are pretty forgiving. Forgiveness is good, but just because you forgive someone does not give them the right to just begin again, necessarily," he said.

Rekers has been speaking out against all things gay for many years now, so vehemently that one is led to assume that he's overcompensating for something. And indeed that looks to be the case. Rekers traveled to Europe on a vacation recently and hired an escort through Rentboy.com to "carry his luggage." He claims he recently had surgery and thus couldn't do the lifting himself. Why he found a porter through a gay prostitution website — the only place where Lucien, as the rentboy is called by the Miami New Times (who broke the story), offers his services — remains unexplained.
Sure, it's just the same old story: destestable Christian bigot exposed as howling hypocrite. But it never seems to grow stale, does it?

Because when a guy makes his lifework this sort of "ensure that being gay is seen as wrong/erase gains made toward dignity and acceptance/un-liberate everybody" thing, and it turns out, not even surprisingly at all to anybody any more, that the guy in question is gay or bi -- I mean to me it seems like the process in these guys' heads has gotta be a walking daily Hell of self-denial and self-hatred -- it has to be like constantly policing yourself to never, ever for a second contemplate who you might really be, what your real feelings are, what kind of life you'd actually like to lead; never share with anybody how and who you are; construct an entire life toward trying to strike the pose of being the sort of person you think of as good, as opposed to the sort of person you make a point of painting publicly as sick or narcissistic or sinful, which is actually just you talking about how you feel about yourself...I mean, fuck these guys for all the harm they do, but that they spend most of their lives in this prison of shame is tragic to me. getting all the way to old age without ever allowing yourself the chance to be who you are without hiding it? having a whole family to whom you can only show part of yourself? that is so sad, what a sad world.

Who knows what is really going on in their heads, I think one of the appeals of this kind of story is the sheer unfathomability of what they must be thinking. But to put a different spin on it, perhaps they're having the time of their lives railing against teh homos while gaily bumming around all up the whazoo in private. Kind of like yer socialist dictator preaching collectivism while lording it up in a palace.

I wonder if, when you spend your life working to make the world a worse place for gays (for instance), and you are somewhat successful, your paranoia about BEING one and having to hypothetically LIVE in the world you've created increases, which makes you agitate against it/yourself even more, which makes the world seem worse for your kind, which makes you react MORE strongly, which...etc. Obvious stuff really but since we're looking for a window into this kind of thinking....

to go back to this for a second. j0hn's post got me thinking about compassion and politics in this case. j0hn's point is totally sound but i find i just have a limited amount of mercy for guys like this. a lot of people are self-hating for any number of reasons but very few make a whole damn career out of it, which j0hn also said.

Dear Matt P: No
The rentboy lulz I've seen don't seem any more specifically homophobic than the Ashley Dupré lulz tbh. Whereas...
During a presentation on research conducted by George A. Rekers, professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University of South Carolina, the presenters noted that “boys and girls adopted by lesbian and homosexual couples show a greater level of stress than that which is already generated by their status as orphans or children abandoned by their biological parents.” They added that this situation “produces diverse trauma and behavioral disorders that can even lead to suicidal tendencies or attempts.” “According to various studies containing testimonies from children of homosexual parents, most them of admit to suffering strong emotions, such as fear, anxiety, apprehension, shame and anger in trying to hide from their friends and relatives the homosexuality of their father or mother,” they continued.http://www.calcatholic.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?id=ab3efae8-b9bf-4269-828b-13604acaa059

ha, then i agree with you. i get annoyed by the schadenfreude in instances like this and i'm trying to articulate why. not arguing w/ anyone per se. it might sound like it just cuz it bugs me.
x-post ok, i was waiting for someone to give an example! the guy can go fuck himself obviously. but i still think there's a better way to deal w/ the damage of "research" like that than to hang the author for being a fuck-up. i think it's good to know to clear the air for some, but it doesn't really change any opinions imo, or self-opinions. it's not like it has to. but when people think it's more important than it is or proves something that it doesn't -- not thinking of anyone here -- then it's annoying and wrong imo

It's an excellent question, and the answer may prove interesting, but it's hard to pay attention when the man himself is sending amateur-hour letters to Miami New Times like this one:
Dear [reporter who got the ball rolling],If today's news story in the Miami New Times is accurate, I have been advised to retain the services of a defamation attorney in this matter, because the fact is that I am not gay and never have been.My travel assistant called me this afternoon earnestly asking me to clarify on my website that he worked for me as a travel companion and not as a prostitute. I completely agreed with my travel assistant that it is absolutely true that I hired him and he worked for me as a travel companion and not as a prostitute. I also read to him the first sentence that has been posted on my website for several days that says, "A recent article in an alternative newspaper cleverly gave false impressions of inappropriate behavior because of its misleading innuendo, incorrectly implying that Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute to accompany him on a recent trip."Two days ago a professor friend of mine recommended that I ask my travel assistant to send me an email saying what happened on the trip so I could post a statement on what we agreed on. When I called my travel assistant to ask if he would write a statement to me, he asked me to send him questions to remind him of what topics about our trip he should write to me about, which I did on May 4.Here are the four questions that I sent my travel assistant at his request two days ago, together with the answers we agreed on in our phone conversation this afternoon:1. Did Dr. Rekers in fact hire you to lift my luggage when necessary as a travel assistant during the trip, because I cannot do so myself since I had surgery?Together we agreed that I in fact hired him to lift luggage when necessary as a travel assistant during the trip, because I cannot do so himself since having surgery. Did you in fact lift my luggage during the trip each time it was necessary, or did Dr Rekers lift his own luggage during the trip?We agreed that my travel assistant did in fact lift my luggage each time it was necessary, that I did not lift my luggage, and my travel assistant did all the lifting.3. Did Dr. Rekers hire you as a prostitute for the trip?We agreed that I hired him as a companion and to help with luggage, and that I did not hire him as a prostitute for any sexual purpose.4. Did Dr. Rekers spend time explaining how the Christian faith is based in love to you during the trip?We agreed that I explained the Christian faith to my travel assistant in conversations on several days during the trip.Sincerely,George A. Furthermore, Rekers is no Pastor Ted Haggard. Those who know me are aware that Ted Haggard has become a friend of mine. I believe Ted Haggard is a faithful husband to his wife. He is a dedicated Christian, and he is no enemy of gays.
wait what

I felt an attraction to Pastor Ted the first moment I laid eyes on him. I wanted him, and I couldn’t help myself. I knew he was married and I knew it was wrong, but I wanted this man and I was determined to get him. I thought of ways to let him know how I felt. I planned how I would test him and see if he wanted me to. I fantasized about having an affair with Pastor Ted Haggard. For as much as my hard cock wanted it my conscience wouldn’t allow me to make a move on him. I gave him every opportunity to make an advancement on me. I remember waking up and finding him reading the bible on his treo, which is an older kind of I-phone. He would pace back and forth, in his boxers, and pray. One morning, I woke up with wood, and I saw him pacing back and forth. He was wearing different underware this time. They were tight and white. I could see the full impression of his cock and I swear, I almost came on myself just looking at him. As he walked back and forth his huge cock moved with his left leg and his balls jiggled inside his package. I couldn’t stop starring at him, and when he almost caught me I pretended that I was praying too. I was praying. Praying he would fuck me!

Chuck Strouse says:I am the editor of Miami New Times. No money was paid to a source in this story and nothing unethical or illegal was done. Our reporters have no personal relationship with anyone involved in the story. For anything more, read the stories that will continue to appear on our website and in print.

Thorp and Bullock went about the task of writing their story methodically. First, it was not Roman that tipped them off to the lead the young man was in Europe with Rekers. Instead, it was a friend of Roman’s, who was an ‘authorized user’ of his e-mail account. Apparently, while reviewing Roman’s contacts, he came upon the escort’s famous client, and contacted his friend, Bullock. His goal was to expose Rekers, a married man, for hiring a male escort.

The two guys standing nearby make the young man even more uneasy. One of them holds a hot-pink digital camera, and both are trying hard not to look his way. They keep stealing glances, which the young man tries to ignore.

Rekers is doubling down:
'I am immediately resigning my membership in NARTH to allow myself the time necessary to fight the false media reports that have been made against me. With the assistance of a defamation attorney, I will fight these false reports because I have not engaged in any homosexual behavior whatsoever. I am not gay and never have been.'

"You know, that's really the core issue here," he added. "I bought the drugs to enhance masturbation. Because what crystal meth does--Mike taught me this--crystal meth makes it so you don't ejaculate soon. So you can watch porn and masturbate for a long time."

News Flash! After being treated by his church the same way he gladly treated others while he was leading his church, Ted Haggard now professes: "I used to think the church was the light of the world. But I've completely lost my faith in it." There's nothing like being handed the dirty end of the stick to discover that it's dirty.

When Haggard resigned, Roose reports, he signed a separation agreement, drafted by a board of overseers appointed by the church, which "required him to cut off all contact with members of the church, stay away from the media, perform no ministry-related work, and move his family out of Colorado."
