Holy Diver You've been down too long in the midnight sea Oh what's becoming of me
Ride the tiger You can see his stripes but you know he's clean Oh don't you see what I mean
Gotta get away Holy Diver
Shiny diamonds Like the eyes of a cat in the black and blue Something is coming for you
Race for the morning You can hide in the sun 'till you see the light Oh we will pray it's all right
Gotta get away-get away
Between the velvet lies There's a truth that's hard as steel The vision never dies Life's a never ending wheel
Holy Diver You're the star of the masquerade No need to look so afraid
Jump on the tiger You can feel his heart but you know he's mean Some light can never be seen
Repeat verse 1

Real World Style Group House/Mansion (MacLean)
You have to have money. We don't care if you have a good job or if you're a trust fund baby... as long as you can pay the rent. People who don't pay the rent suck. You have to be down with parties, especially on the weekends. You have to be clean... more or less. A maid service is included in the rent, but it is still no fun to live with slobs.

hey.. I don't want roommates, to be honest, I've done it & time to move on, I think. I have a lead on a sweeeeeet place owned by a friend of a friend, crossing fingers, I may end up very close to your neighborhood
$1k I could cover but more than that, is trouble (and even $1k is more than technically I ought to pay given pathetic university salary + student loans)

But two weeks ago, when Mr. Sarkozy addressed Alain Juppé, one of his senior ministers and a former prime minister in the formal Chirac era, with “tu,” Mr. Juppé seemed so flummoxed that he replied in a convoluted formulation, avoiding both “you” forms.
i should go back to france

"I'm gonna call you Wrongy 'cause you're always wrong"
― TOMBOT, Thursday, 31 May 2007 16:37 (nineteen years ago)
the Tu/vous thing has been a huge issue in the presidential campaign. One of the Rightwing candidates wrote a book basically saying that the overuse of the familiar Tu was a symptom of how bad french society had got and that the use of the more formal vous ought to be much more widespread.
― Ed, Thursday, 31 May 2007 16:39 (nineteen years ago)
sarko the american just doesn't mind
yeah kinda like dubya's nicknames ! juppé thrown so off center by the lack of manners he doesn't know what to say.
Cécilia Sarkozy used to model for Schiaparelli how cool is that!
this is just speculation on my part but the sheer WTF factor is probably going to keep his ratings high, i mean, as long as he keeps entertaining people and doesn't start any wars in the middle east

LONDON (Reuters) - A British artist who last week ate a meal of meatballs made from a dead corgi dog in a protest against animal cruelty said Sunday his next project involved being buried in a box under a mountain of mashed potato.
Performance artist Mark McGowan, 37, said the corgi, which died from natural causes, tasted terrible.
Corgis are the favored dogs of the Queen, who has owned more than 30 of them during her reign.
McGowan said he ate the dog because he was angry that the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, of which the royal family is a patron, had not prosecuted Prince Philip, the Queen's husband, for hunting and killing a fox. The RSPCA said the fox did not suffer.
Now McGowan is switching his attention from animals to vegetables. He told Sky News television that his next project would be an interpretation of the work of American illusionist David Blaine.
"I am being buried in a box -- a David Blaine type thing -- in Dublin underneath a metre of mashed potato," he said. He did not explain why.
― the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 4 June 2007 16:38 (nineteen years ago)
So for a second there I missed the "metre of mashed potato" part, and was wondering why they were referring to David Blaine as a vegetable.

I mean, whatever, British monarchy already totally irrelevant who gives an archaic fuck non-shocker, but running down a fox with a pack of hounds until it collapses from shock and exhaustion or is snapped up and torn into pieces by whichever dog(s) get to it first is in NO POSSIBLE WAY not-suffering. God. FUCK them, srsly.

Skinny Puppy live!
The most obnoxious combination of mosh pit enthusiasts and mosh pit haters ever.
He had this box suspended over the stage, and he timed his performance so that when he stuck his head under it, video of his singing head gettin tore up Hellraiser style played on the screen in sync to the lyrics he was singing live.
Good showmanship.
I'm sure glad that I've seen Skinny Puppy.

speaking of boston shows (on the d.c. thread), my friends in the hibachi stranglers and jeannie and the tits are on tour:
June 23 - Boston @ Abbey Lounge w/ Turpentine Bros
turpentine brothers fucking destroyed chicago and milwaukee this past weekend. i've never seen jeannie and the tits but they are friends of mine (bass player is originally from lynn lynn the city of sin). hibachi stranglers are from alabama i think and have an insane angry samoans crossed with the gun club vibe to them.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:20 (nineteen years ago)
except "hip nightclub with tons of babes" is obviously a complete scam esp. in Boston

― TOMBOT, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:22 (nineteen years ago)
cf. use of modifier "hip"
Angry Samoans are a band
― Mr. Que, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:22 (nineteen years ago)
OK
― TOMBOT, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:23 (nineteen years ago)
"insane" was just a modifier/adjective
― Mr. Que, Thursday, 7 June 2007 15:23 (nineteen years ago)
the vibe, which i find to be insane, is that of the band the angry samoans mixed with another band, the gun club, and put together.

― jessie monster, Thursday, 7 June 2007 17:58 (nineteen years ago)
i haven't spent much time in s.d., i've been there less than five times but i've never encountered any bros when out socially. actually that's a lie, me and towga went to a "fancy" (for us) restaurant the last time i was there and there was some broage about. but what i noticed mainly was a HUGE number of aging skatepunks. i found that hilarious because if you're 17 and still a skatepunk i think you're too old for that shit. if you're 34 it's bordering on black comedy.
i'm sure the weather attracts a lot of bros and it's obviously a military town but it's big enough where you can avoid it if you want. but seeing as you'd be there for school it might be somewhat harder to avoid them.
when i come back to boston in october can the boston ilx contingent meet at the kells for a pint? please!?!?? it would either be hilarious or sad and if it's sad we can go elsewhere. i'd be eager to see what difference 13 years makes to my opinion of that place (which was never very high to begin with).
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 7 June 2007 18:18 (nineteen years ago)
Kells? I live within walking distance from there but have only been once when I first moved here and didn't know any better. Get this - they serve all Asian food now and have totally renovated the place. It could very well be hilarious.

JM - I'm probably about a 15 min walk from the Kells. We live on the Allston/Brighton border closer to Comm Ave but yeah, it can't be far. Speaking of 80s nights like we were earlier, have you been to The Common Ground on Thurs night? It's not bad. Also, they were having a thing every other Sat that was the 80s night DJ v. The DJ from The Pill which was pretty good too.
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:14 (nineteen years ago)
holy fuck, i used to live on comm ave basically at harvard st. which was real close to the kells and the disgustingness of brighton ave.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:36 (nineteen years ago)
Yeah, right around there. Thankfully our street is pretty awesome and not at all gross. We're staying another year because our place is cheap and I'll be in school again in Sept. Knowing that I'll be around there longer I've been trying to focus on the good things about the area. It has more than you might think!
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:40 (nineteen years ago)
unfortunately it also has more rats and annoying hipsters then I remembered from the last time I lived around here.
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:41 (nineteen years ago)
I don't get the whole "GAH those annoying hipsters!!!" thing. they look stupid and no one is forcing me to talk to them, whatev. then again I also know most of them.
I live near the Allston St. T Stop.
― jessie monster, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:43 (nineteen years ago)
Yeah, maybe annoying isn't the right word. Ammusing is probably more like it. We're near Washington St T.
― ENBB, Thursday, 7 June 2007 19:45 (nineteen years ago)
Oh man, I can't type or spell today. Amusing, obv.

Dear Greater DC thread:
Tell me about the greater DC area. I am living "here" (with my cousin and her husband in mt airy, md, lol commute) and interning "here" (Suitland) for the summer and would like to venture out and see/do/eat stuff. Things along the red and green metro lines a plus, but not necessary. Also, how well-attended are Nats games in the evenings?
― m bison, Sunday, 10 June 2007 00:55 (nineteen years ago)
M BISON LET'S BRO OUT whhopps all caps jeseus
ok red line is where i live and green line is where i used to live.
if you like basubaru you can pretty much get tickets for any nats game you want via dc craigslist.
let's hang fool, I heard you and I are the only people on this thread what got tracks down and haven't fired our bassist.
― TOMBOT, Sunday, 10 June 2007 07:18 (nineteen years ago)
LOL @ rock hotel tonight
Ended DJ set @ 2:30 tonight as scheduled, then mingled and friends left around 2:45, they came back in a minute later and club was all like "OK THERE HAS BEEN SHOTS FIRED PLEASE DO NOT STAND NEAR WINDOWS LOL!" and so we were locked in until 3:30. Pretty good afterparty, really, put on some more music and I had somehow had the foresight to pack a full bottle of rittenhouse rye in my DJ bag so swigs happened. So much CHARACTER in that neighborhood, wvidently aside from the shots there was some lady who passed out in her car outside with it in drive so when we finally left there were ambulances and police all over.
Pretty good time.
― I DIED, Sunday, 10 June 2007 08:11 (nineteen years ago)
If only I had a bassist to fire.
Is there anyplace to see Game 4 on Thursday? With any luck I will be in a one-man San Antonio championship celebration parade that night.

oh god
"When she visits Washington from San Francisco to lobby Congress against the war in Iraq, she stays in Code Pink's new group house on Capitol Hill, where nearly everyone wears pink, where her bedspread and her pillow and her bedroom curtains are pink, as are the drinking cups in the kitchen and the flowers that grow out back."

― daria-g, Sunday, 10 June 2007 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Montgomery Adopts Revised Sex-Ed Lessons
The Montgomery County school board voted 6 to 1 to adopt new sex education lessons to be taught in all 8th and 10th grade classes, including a provision that allows teachers to tell students who ask that homosexuality is not a mental illness.
The dissenting vote came from Stephen Abrams, who objected to that change and other last minute additions to the lessons.
"This is what we call a happy ending," said Elinor Walker, an attorney and parent who served on a citizens advisory committee that helped school system officials complete the new lessons.
