gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, always wanted to go to New Zealand and that goal was fulfilled! :-) So right now that leaves the other two places I've wanted to visit -- Japan (hopefully next year) and Iceland (who knows when?).

Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, Argentina and Russia have always bubbled under for me, so maybe in later years for them all, though I'm hoping to also see Russia next year as well, at least a bit of it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

being a not-so-proud resident of #2 i can tell you to stay away for your own good.

ned: Jeez...Japan and Iceland are my top two as well.

Then after that the rest of Scandinavia.

but japan is the place but that won't happen for many many years as I would need money. Iceland and scandinavia not as much money so that would go first. but again, I don't when it will happen or anything.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

how does "pittsburgh" fit in there, gareth?!?!

i would like to go to germany, france, japan, and um connecticut

to our shame, we don't fit in anywhere...

mike (ro)bott, Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with you about the Caspian. When I was at school I used to look at atlases and get upset that it was drying up compared to older maps - I believe that the shorelines are no longer retreating now. I also fancy the Falkland Islands, Lake Baikal, and St. Helena.

David (David), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm,

Oslo
California

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Japan is #1 for me, but China and lots of the Far East appeals hugely to me (Angkor Wat in Cambodia especially). I've not been to any part of Italy or Africa yet, oddly. In America, Chicago and New Orleans.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 21 September 2002 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

being a not-so-proud resident of #2 i can tell you to stay away for your own good.
As a former resident I'd say its an ok place to visit but I wouldn't move back. For reasons like this
"If you visit Pittsburgh and don't eat a Primanti sandwich, may your manhood be questioned. This is home to the famous french fry-coleslaw-meat sandwich. This is one of maybe 3 things that is required to do when in the Burgh."
Sandwich=manhood??
But they are dammgood

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to go to the lake district! I also want to go to Nude York to see Ben's giant loft space. I do also fancy going to THEME PARKS ie Moominland in Finlandia (perhaps not it's real name) and Puroland in that Japan (it's real name, I believe) and even hey, I'd probably do DisneyWorld. I believe you can buy oranges in Florida - are they the proverbial only fruit?

Also Thailand and that Russia which is so big I'm not sure whereabouts.

Sarah (starry), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a moominland? and sanrio land in japan? i think disneyland is better than disneyworld. because of the rainy weather they had to make more rides inside and and they aren't as elaborate as the originals. as for me, i want to swim with dolphins in the caribbean (don't laugh!)

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh Ooh, I want to go to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, the Caucasus, Istanbul, Mali, Senegal, Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Buenos Aires, Myanmar, Lahore, Khyber Pass, Cape Town, Salt Lake City, and Jamaica. And Scandinavia for the cute boys.

Starry, dont you want to come see my giant loft space too? :(

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

current list isnt much changed from the above, i would say

lisbon
memphis
new orleans
helsinki
cherbourg
marseille
savannah
stockholm
san francisco
la coruna
nashville

are my starting XI

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't know you had a giant loft space too! Perhaps I need to move! Sure I'll see your loft space! MoominWorld website apparently although it's all Flash so I can't look at it moiself. Puroland website.

Sarah (starry), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess, Oslo is still on my list, and Moominland too, and I'd like to go to New York. The Great Lakes. Avebury & Stonehenge. Legoland Windsor.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 21 September 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Also.. Senegal, Morocco, and Croatia.

daria g (daria g), Sunday, 21 September 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

there are two places on my wish list. the first, montevideo, i have been dreaming about for as long as i can remember. the second is a somewhat recent obsession, salomon islands. i plan to fulfill these two wishes in the very near future. also, i have never seen the grand canyon, another priority of mine. oh, hawaii and iceland too - volcanoes and northern lights have incomparable appeal. i love my city, montreal, to an almost embarassing extent, and i always wanted to visit other likeminded island-cities, especially their port and older districts.

chomi2003, Sunday, 21 September 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

A really neat and not too touristy Pacific island.
any recommendations?

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 21 September 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

My dream trip = driving up from the bottom of Lake Malawi up that chain of lakes (Tanzania, Albert) to Lake Victoria. With my dad.

Sam (chirombo), Monday, 22 September 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I've done part of that trip. But not with your dad.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I would love to go to Iran but I think this is not possible at the moment for us 'Muricans..

Oh, its possible... Just that if you want to go as an individual tourist and not as a part of an expensive package tour, you have to jump through a hundred flaming hoops to get a tourist visa. And even then, it's not guaranteed that you'll get one. Unless you have Iranian friends in Iran who are willing to sponsor you.

I want to go to Montreal actually. To stalk the keyboardist from Stars. phwooar.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

But failing advances in time machine technology, I'd settle for Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada. Some place much further away from the equator, that doesn't get a whole lot of sun, that's colder and has better winters.

I want to go to the first four places on that list. Everywhere arctic!

Maria, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

I've found lately that travel has lost some of its appeal for me. I suppose I could compile a list of if-money-were-no-object places to go, but given that I'm going to be low-income for the next three years due to school, and given that I haven't really liked where I live and my work for the last few years, I'm much more concerned with just finding a way to like my work and the place where I live and less with travel. I can't justify blowing a couple thousand dollars for a few weeks of exoticism and landscape gawking right now.

Hurting 2, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)

Also I have some carbon footprint and oil-dependence guilt about air travel.

Hurting 2, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

get bent, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

To tell the truth, travel to far foreign parts is not only expensive, but strikes me, after a certain amount of so-here-I-am-far-from-home-in-a-strange-land kick-in-the-head experience, as a game of fast diminishing returns.

I happen to live in the west of North America, a place that is mind-fuckingly beautiful. I have finally, after five decades, visited most of my native state of Oregon and my neighboring state of Washington. I could happily spend the remainder of my life filling in the last gaps in that map and revisiting the great and awesome places I've already seen.

I love this place. Since this is my home, this only seems proper and right.

Two votes for Sydney, one for Darwin, none for Melbourne. Interesting.

I'm thinking of rambling cross country next summer. Leave the driving to Greyhound.

Could be a time.

I'm done with college, this is when you're supposed to do this sort of thing right?

Iceland sounds like some crazy landscape. Lava + glaciers + arctic plant life + geysers == omg wtf!

i'm all euro-y now, lol

gabbneb, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

Get to Arches/Canyonlands before they start drilling ;_;

I would vote for Greek Islands, but only because I like greek food better than scottish food.

Jaq, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 04:59 (seventeen years ago)

i have a bunch of "before..." places. Venice should maybe be on the list. and Kilimanjaro.

yeah, the idea of Greek Islands excites me more, and I'm sure I'd like the food better, but otoh I am more of a mountain than beach person and don't react well to prolonged sun exposure
