I note that I am not in the top 50! I must try much harder. I am very acting on ILE, but don't get around these parts so much. I should get some credit for insanely long lists whenever anyone starts a C90: Songs About Rain thread or the like.

yet redo the list by threads started and find out who are starting all these nowhere threads
i don't start many threads because i think it should be something really worth asking, and i consider some of the voluminous recent throw-away threads to be a waste of everyone's time
why don't these recent posters check out the threads that have already happened on similar subjects ? why don't they check out the styles of threads already archived that have been popular, use their imagination and at least try to start threads that might get more than 3 replies ?
what's the big difference between say OPO, OP10, and S/D ? what point is served by such generic unimaginative posings ?

producing these sorts of stats are what computers do best, and variables could be set to kill-file certain subjects or posters, or keep average/week popular threads on screen, uh, in fact whatever users want -- using a computer to optimise the threads somewhat avoids the charges of subjectivity that have been levelled at moderaters recently, whose policies might be less controversially implemented if mediated by individuals preferences
keeping interesting content on screen is the goal, right ? revitalising old threads to suit slightly new angles on essentially the same subjects = community consensusthe search functions are the key to this community, as so much effort has been put into archiving the "collective wisdom" -- endless similar new threads _will_ alienate that collective wisdom
so, that's all i'm going to say, except that i agree with alex, in that there are far too many "vanity" threads
puerility DOES NOT ROCK

The kill-file arguement has come up before and with increasing frequency. I think Tom gives the best defence to why they havent been desired by the powers that be but he is on sabatical right now. I know its cruel but until I have time you can find the arguement on the Shout For The Moderator Thread on the other board.
