Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 19 July 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

have it, it's quite good, out august 15th i think and copy protected, albeit not very well

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Saturday, 19 July 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this the one that has that song with Kelis, "Finest Dreams" on it? I'm really liking that at the moment but have no idea where it actually comes from.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 19 July 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

released August 25th in the UK.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 July 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah that's the one Edward. no chance of a rip then frenchbloke? if it's hassle don't worry about it.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 19 July 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

'some of the best pop since donna met giorgio' says
muzik, immediately raising my expectations at least.

bold claim !

piscesboy, Saturday, 19 July 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

marcello wrote something about it a while ago
also,i was reading about it in the irish times yesterday, sounds like it could be great

robin (robin), Saturday, 19 July 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been asked not to share it by the man concerned.

if you're on slsk, msg frenchbloke and i can tell you where to find it tho

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

you better let me love you featuring tiga is pretty good I guess. It could be anyone though, to some extent.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the source of 'Finest Dreams' is also bugging me, musically it reminds me a bit of the Thompson Twins. lyrically it sounds like something Foul Play sampled once on a track i've also forgotten the name of, gah

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been asked not to share it by the man concerned.

the ironing...etc.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

according to the sticker plastered across the fromt of the promo
'finest dreams' samples the SOS band's 'finest'.

it also, chucklesomely has a virgin sticker that says
strictly NOT for sale.

heh heh.

piscesboy, Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

you must have a different promo to mine. i have the stencilled text on white cover one. no mention of sos band at all

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

no the sticker that's plastered on the front
was actually from the shop itself.
i like all this funny packaging tho,
the wee pic of the promo lp cover in muzik says :

'richard x promo x factor for you
cover image to include ravishing model (drunk)
glamorous make up (smudged)
revealing dress (soiled)
succulent kebab
streaming timelapse traffic...'

piscesboy, Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

that's the one.

and copy protected*

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, it's the same sourcetrack as Foul Play's "Finest Illusion":
S.O.S. Band's "The Finest" single, which is also on Sands Of Time, one of their best albums (though Just The Way You Like It side 1 is the best S.O.S. album side evah!).

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul you're awesome, and thanks to piscesboy for the SOS Band conf.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Succulent Kebab vs Omnipotent Baby

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks stevem! the music is from Human League's "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of" off Dare.

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 19 July 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

it's on soulseek now, i downloaded it overnight. haven't heard it yet though.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Not only did I buy that issue of Muzik practically on the promise of the review (and the other reviews and a free CD and the Outkast piece and Dizzee and), but I was even more desperate to hear this when I found out Annie and Javine guest on it. I did get the 'Finest Dreams' vinyl promo to tide me over the other day.

I do hope Rich does less dancehall remixes however 'cause it's not for him-his Tiga one is funky and brilliant and not at all dancehally.

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 24 July 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

at the mo i really like the tiga track and the jarvis cocker one's pretty good too. the rest hasn't grabbed me.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 24 July 2003 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I love it, the whole thing is beautiful sm-art pop.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i *literally* cannot wait to get on slsk for this.
i dunno, first the tahiti 80 album (pop album
of the year so far *surely*) now this !

piscesboy, Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it sucks big time - expect to see it filling bargain bins everywhere imminently.

testmonger, Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

which 'tahiti 80' or 'richard x' ?
wll i don't see that as anything bad either way -
i fished 'a different lifetime' by spearmint
out of a bargain bin for 4.99 in virgin !

piscesboy, Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

testmonger is Noel from HearSay

i wish Rich X had been able to get Grace Jones on this thing

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

now come on that jarvis tune is awful.
jarv sings the verse and then the mazzy star sample
comes in for the chorus. worst idea ever.
and what a crummily lazy obvious sample.

let's play spot the samples on the rest:
'p machinery' is on there, as is 'obsession' by animotion somewhere,
there's a bit of a petshopboys influence running thru
(hear those west end girls style stilletoes on pavenment
sound effects) used to and just friends are ace !

piscesboy, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

'finest dreams' samples the SOS band's 'finest'.

It also samples Human League's "The things that dreams are made of".

man, Tuesday, 5 August 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

im looking forward to hearing this

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

the understated reading of "Walk On By" is surprisingly affecting

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

'Just Friends' has been rocking my world the last 2 weeks

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul - If you like the version of Walk on by, check out Flying Lizards Top ten or well just about anything with Flying lizards.

My fave songs are Walk on by, Lemon lime, freak like me (a bit old isn´t it....)
and i liked the Annie track aswell.

The jarvis/mazzy star song wasn´t very good...

Jens (brighter), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
Hot damn, is this album going to own me for the forseeable future. 'Finest Dreams' is already some of the best 4: 12 mins of my life, I probably love 'Being Nobody' more than anyone on ILX and the rest is pretty hot. Annie didn't disappoint if I ignore that she doesn't sing, the Javine track is a great return to 80s r'n'b, 'Rock Jacket' is like a lost Discovery song remixed by Felix (prob'ly), 'Walk On By' makes me laugh (and I'm semi-sure it's not quite supposed to), 'Lemon/Lime' is also cool and I am loving 'You...Tonight' (yes, yes I AYYUUMMM). The record is almost completely in love with the 80s and all the better for it (the 'Into U' intro brings multiplying chills).

As a nice juxtaposition, while I was listening to it in Tower, the shop stereo was playing an 80s synth-pop complilation, featuring, of course, 'Are Friends Electric', 'Being Boiled', Heaven 17, the Flying Lizards ad infinitum.

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 28 August 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It falls down around tracks 5 and 6, but I reckon this record will probably finish high up there in my albums of the year list... Rock Jacket is indeed ace, actually I think better than any of the vocal tracks on there.

I even like the Jarvis one even if it is a tad incongruous on there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 28 August 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I really really love it, it is zingiest/clickiest record of the year. There's nothing on it I dislike but the Annie one in particular is very addictive and unsettling and a bit blank-eyed-dangerous-screwed-up, I don't think I know anything about her at all.

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Thursday, 28 August 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually that's bollocks, it's much more poignant disaffected grown-up-isolation kind of thing really. I really really love this album, by the way.

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Thursday, 28 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Those Annie comments are interesting, seeing as her last record, 'I Will Get On' was written after the death of her boyfriend. More info: belongs to Norway's Telle Records (with Royksopp etc). Sampled Madonna's 'Everybody' with said boyfriend, Erot, and created 'The Greatest Hit', one of the best discopop-house records ever and then the last single. Did her vocals for 'Just Friends' over the phone (and you can tell). Has had her singles put out and remixed in the UK by Loaded-last one out for 2 weeks now. Has mondo potential.

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 28 August 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't play my promo on my computer which suxors (because I have to play it on my crappy stereo and can't share it with others). I love the record although it feels "half-finished". I couldn't get Walk On By until Richard X explained it was a tribute to the Flying Lizards but also a memory of his teenage years when he used to go to the English sea-side.

nathalie (nathalie), Thursday, 28 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

album of my year so far i think

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 28 August 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

also i think Alex in Rotherham has officially replaced Barima who officially replaced Nate Patrin as my musical 'twin town'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 28 August 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It's my fave album of the year as well. The only thing's I'm not lovin' completely are Rock Jacket and Lemon-Lime all else if fabulous. The sense of emotional dislocation on both Walk on By and Just Friends is staggering; when I hear the line "foolish pride is ALL I have left" it feels like the earth's gravity has increased twofold.

"I probably love 'Being Nobody' more than anyone on ILX"

That's what you think.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Thursday, 28 August 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

'Rock Jacket' is my favourite at the mo - 'Lemon Lime' is classic just for the 'Armageddon...David Sneddon' line

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 28 August 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock Jacket is indeed sounding a bit invincible now, and the Tiga one. And he says "Drums!", fantastic. And Lonely is like What About Us? by Brandy short-circuiting and spluttering into whizzy balloon-bursting territory, or similar.

The more I listen to this album the more I think that every second oozes genius and invention and sparkling newness, the whole sum-of-parts thing becomes almost irrelevant because this actually sounds like much more than its component bits which I hoped but did not expect at all.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Thursday, 28 August 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"also i think Alex in Rotherham has officially replaced Barima who officially replaced Nate Patrin as my musical 'twin town'"

*cries, then realises something*

I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Barima (Barima), Friday, 29 August 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The Tiga one is fucking ace! "I'm your DADDY"

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a two-way tussle between Dang Perry and Nick Southall for my musical mind-meld I think. I need their opinions on this record.

I've said this on another thread, but that little Jessica chuckle at the start of the Liberty X one is the sexiest thing ever. And I don't even know what Jessica looks like.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 August 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt, Jessica is very cute. My sis' best friend's mum kinda looks like her andIbetterstoprighttherebeforeIsaysomeshitIshouldnthaveandened upinholyorders.

Also, Alex in Doncaster is OTM. There hasn't been sample blending in pop of this skill since the Dust Brothers and Fantasma, and it's quite plain to see that Richard does have love for his sounds and work, rather than being into any of the 'soulless, smirking, ironic fascination/amusement' people tend to project/presume etc into such records.

The Tiga one is like getting trapped in the best and most camp straight/gay/bi/whatever disco in the world and making you love it. It's like the chorus of 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' (the 'work it, do it, power' etc) has come to full fruition and we're reaping the benefits like no tomorrow. The spoken part is only more killer (who said "I'm the kind of girl who always gets what she wants"?). Richard's Gareth Gatex (erroneously and amusingly/appropriately referred to as 'Gaytex' in a recent review) 'Hot In Herre' rmx makes a wicked counterpart to this, as well as kicking the 'original's' ass in the process.

The album also inspires a sense of epicness (for me) that the new UNKLE fails to achieve. I feel humbled in the face of Rich's skills. There's something about artists overhauling their childhood memories and music that usually never fails to be classic (cf. aforementioned albums and the new s/titled one by Pleasure).

And David, bring it :-).

Hello, my name is Tony (Barima), Friday, 29 August 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"overhauling childhood memories" = CLASSIC is exactly right and genius point that I think I have always understood on some level but failed to grasp properly until now, so mutual-backslap Barima! splendid. Trapped/epic, exactlyexactly.

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 29 August 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i love the tiga track SO MUCH these days, it's way better than "burning down" for example. also the jarvis track is ace. the rest of it still ranks as good rather than amazing for me.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 29 August 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I remember my thread about the Tiga track and it was all "yeah Ronan whatever"

heh, it is better than burning down but mainly cos it's gone all out for the peaktime thing rather than being kind of quirky.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It's here! The best Tiga track in the world EVAH!

Mark One (Barima), Friday, 29 August 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Until Rich tries to top it on Tiga's album.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 29 August 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
is "being nobody" really that crazy a choice for single of the year?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 3 November 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course not.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 3 November 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

cause i think it's mine.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 3 November 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

'You Used To' would be my single of the year if released before January.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 3 November 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Being Nobody" is at least in my top ten singles - I only realised it when I heard it at the beginning of the album how epic it is. "You Used To" likewise. This sort of stuff is my favourite style for Richard ("Lonely" is great too except the vocals don't quite fit the groove) - and the more sugary the better... he's the first nu-electro artist to really capture that shiny plasticy fizz that I love in Future Bible Heroes.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

tim what are your other frontrunners at the moment?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I find the lonely vocals a bit harsh. I do love the outro to Rock Jacket intensely though, reminds me of a the skeletons dancing to Daft Punk's Around The World.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Off the top of my head:

Sean Paul - Get Busy
Martini Bros - Boy/Girl
Jammer & Kano - Boys Luv Girls/Vice Versa
Sizzla - Love & Affection
Basement Jaxx - Lucky Star
Wiley ft. Harry Toddler - Donkey Kick (Eskimo Vocal Mix)
Bounty Killer - Hot Like Fire
Ludacris - Stand Up
Beyonce - Crazy in Love
Danny Weed & Target ft. Wiley, J2K etc. - Pick Yourself Up
Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body
Vybz Kartel - Sweet to da Belly
The Rapture - I Need Your Love (was it actually released?)
Mis-Teeq - Scandalous
Sean Paul - Close To Me
Oxtongue - Delight
Elephant Man - Fuck U Sign
R Kelly - Snake
M. Mayer/R. Voigt - Unter Null
Wayne Wonder - No Letting Go
Donae'o MC & Mr Fidgit - Bounce
Panjabi MC ft. Jay-Z - Beware of the Boys (and "Stop" too! Was it released?)
Kanye West - Through the Wire
Goldfrapp - Strict Machine
Sharkie Major - Ain't A Game
Audio Bullys - The Snow
T. Raumschmiere - Monstertruckdriver
Beenie Man & Ms Thing - Dude
Girls Aloud - No Good Advice

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 3 November 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it's kinda naff, innit?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, I think the 'Lonely' vocals were harsh (I reckon 'slightly harsh') because the original 'Cub Lonely' vocals were pretty soft. Caron is still a better singer than the original lady was. It's one of the various changes that Rich made to this and 'You Used To' that necessitated him calling his versions 'adaptations' over 'covers', I guess.

Rumour has it 'You Used To' (b/w 'Into U') will be the next single, as common sense has dictated!

And check the NME's Big Book sometime - there's some excellent shit in there from Richard, including some priceless TOTP info, and they even picked him as their 2nd Best Producer of the year, right behind Pharrell (obv), which annoyed me because they didn't rate the album much, just like a fair chunk of the British record buying public (grumble mutter).

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
What's the source record for "You Used To"? I recognise it but can't recall it.

Many thanks!

Thanks!

Why was 'You Used To' shelved? Anybody?

Barima (Barima), Sunday, 8 February 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes there was a video for this, I'd forgotten it was to be released as a single - what happened?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 8 February 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
does anyone know anything about this singer Annie? I think she's on this album, but I've recently heard a song of hers called "Heartbeat" which is just the most beautiful sugar-coated dance song I've heard in forever.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 14 June 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Those Annie comments are interesting, seeing as her last record, 'I Will Get On' was written after the death of her boyfriend. More info: belongs to Norway's Telle Records (with Royksopp etc). her album is out in september.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 June 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

PPS: Tell me more!

PPPS: Has anyone heard Richard's new Rachel Stevens-sung single 'Some Girls' (out next month)? The Popjustice review was so hot for me. Or maybe Rachel's hot for me. Or I'm hot for the song. I don't have a fanny though.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Monday, 14 June 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

it is SCHAFFEL. the rachel stevens song. mark p informed me of it today.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 June 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

if you go to the 679recordings.com website, you can select Annie's "Heartbeat" track in the player in the upper right. It's currently my favorite song.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 14 June 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't know this was a richard x track until now! i actually held off on making a "[x] meets richard x" comparison because i figured it'd be too easy. wonders never cease, etc.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 14 June 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the word on the RS/RX is "Blondie goes Schaffel/RX goes Goldfrapp". Sounds like sheer excellence. The lyrics look boss.

Fuck, man, it's like there's nothing RX can't do! The mashups, the album, the remixes (Tiga, TLC, Louie Austen, haven't heard the Prince Po but really want to), the videos, the amusing promo, the sheer crazy insanity classiqueness when I asked one of the Nag Nag Nag DJs to play 'You Better Let Me Love You' - AND HE DID at +8 and all the gay bodypoppers at Heaven completely lost their shit and mashed up the floor. Well, OK, 'You Used To' didn't get fully released, but nobody's perfect.

Annie's signed to 679? Excellent. Loaded don't really do albums - closest is this Jockey Slut mix they did. 'The Greatest Dub' is the final track - 7 minutes of madness.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Monday, 14 June 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

DUDES! Richard's produced her next single, 'Chewing Gum'.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Monday, 14 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I've been looking for that one!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 14 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

That Annie track off the 679 site - that is good.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 14 June 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"Some Girls" is absolutely excellent. Definite top ten single of the year for me, maybe top five.

2003/2004 feels like the time when female-fronted electro-pop finally starts to live up to its own potential as the post-R&B pop-form of choice in the UK. And the secret was obviously (a la "The Greatest Hit" - who was it who said this was how Madonna's last few records should have sounded) getting a bit silly and irreverent and unashamedly pop. See Girls Aloud's "The Game", Sugababes' "Whatever Makes You Happy", even Britney's "Toxic" sorta.

Can't wait to hear more Annie stuff.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

ok. time to reveal something that really hit me as weird, i LOVE this album. damn. next i'll be declaring i just bought the girls aloud album dead cheap today in hmv sales and that too has impressed somewhat .. but nowhere near as much as this poptastic intensity.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

will this album make the Mercury Music Prize Shortlist?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i want a sequel NOW!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

it'll make the Mark E Shortlist for the next few weeks thats for sure.
on headies it sounds superb. guess sales weren't that hot though as the single with Annie was pulled according to his website (which looks good but does little)
anyone have pointers to his pre Major Label stuff of interest ?

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Girls On Top mashups, mark. Soulseek is your best bet, search 'Being Scrubbed', 'I Wanna Dance With Numbers', 'We Don't Give A Damn About Our Friends' and 'Warm Bitch'.

He also once claimed to be behind a major garage pop single back in the good ol' garage-as-chart-pop days.

The sales were a joke - a no.1, a no.3 and a no. 8 in the singles charts over a year and the thing was underpromoted to fuck, perhaps because Virgin didn't think the kids would take to the Annie and Jarvis tracks.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, also look for the Mary vs Liquitex - '73 Club' split 7". RX does the Mary side, which was from his aborted pre-fame concept record, Hello, My Name Is Rich And I Come From Whalley. It's weird, well produced stop-start electro.

X-Factro totally deserves to make more shortlists, it's overlooked in many Junior Boys reviews/modern albums that continue the synthpop lineage picks.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to mention the brilliant track with Javine that got pulled as a single. There were even promos of it!

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Promos I need to buy when I get back. 'You Used To' had no.1 written all over it, but would've hit no. 12 in reality.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The burning question is if 'You Used To' can remain my hypothetical single of the year in the face of 'Plug It In', 'Toxic' and very likely 'Some Girls'. Given that I can only think of those challengers, that's not an earthshaking battle, is it?

After all Mr X has added his shine to lots of excellent bits and bobs in recent months .. surely these must be collected together to make up a proper album ?

NI, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

also this:

what is this like?

NI, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

rx should have become massive, he made the most perfect pop. i know he's been working with a few manchester bands, producing and writing songs with them, is that his main thing these days?

NI, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

(not specifically manchester bands, i mean producing bands in general)

NI, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

Can we have a moratorium on "perfect pop" as a meme please.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

When I hear something described as 'perfect pop' I assume it sounds like the Lightning Seeds and will therefore avoid it on principle.

byebyepride, Thursday, 5 June 2008 13:43 (eighteen years ago)

sorry guys, can i get that changed to 'very very good pop' instead

(...)

cool piece. i broke this album out about a couple months ago and i still love it. i must've listened to the mazzy star x jarvis song so much that the original sounds like it's missing something

diamonddave85, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 18:47 (twelve years ago)

Enjoyed that a lot.
