M Carty (mj_c), Monday, 19 January 2004 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, I think he means people like it so much they played it out. I think there's a weird dynamic with songs you like so much but have heard so many times it feels awkward like you're obligated to get that virgin rush again. B.O.B. is an example of ones with abrupt, instantly recognizable beginnings (another example: In Da Club.) It can get to a point where you 'fear' the song and skip ahead two times at the end of the preceding track.

Le Coq (DarrenK), Monday, 19 January 2004 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 19 January 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Except for the Avalanches, I don't think I have *any* albums I play all the way through. Literally. I'm a singles whore, too, and actually hardly ever get round to most albums. But anyway:

200 Bars (acapella) by Spiritualized.

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 19 January 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

1. The Beatles - "Revolution 9"
3. Radiohead - "Treefingers"

29. P.I.L. - Albatross
34. Primal Scream - "Damaged"
45. The Stooges - We Will Fall

No no no.

Never skipped these, never will. Heck, if you didn't want to hear Sister Ray, what you put on White Light White Heat for, anyway? And skipping the first track on Metal Box?

(the others i either agree or aint got anyway)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 January 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Velvet Underground - The infinitely long version(s) of Venus in Furs on disc 1 of the boxset.

55) Belle & Sebastian - Nice Day For A Sulk
56) The Delgados - Aye Today

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I always think I'm going to able to handle "Sister Ray" but skip it halfway through and "Albatross" is a wretched opener.

Michael B, Monday, 19 January 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark the point of the thread wasn't which ones you skip - I skip Helter Skelter and not Rev9 - but which the most skipped tracks ever are. Of the several million ppl who own the White Album it does not seem unlikely to me that many of them skip that track.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

57 the beta band 'the monolith'

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Tico - Rocky Raccoon must be pretty close behind it I would have thought.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes absolutely - but RR is much shorter, the number of skippers who will not be arsed and just end up sitting through it will be higher than with Rev9.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Good point. We may need more detailed figures about what skipping a track means to people! Hitting control-left on the keyboard, tapping something beside the steering wheel, walking across the room to hit a button (or find the remote to hit a button)...

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

60. Velvet Underground, 'The Murder Mystery'

Hayden Nicholls (Pop the Weasel), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

60. now here you have a point...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

61. T. Rex -- "Rip Off"; after a nearly flawless half-hour groove through Electric Warrier, why subject oneself to such bombast?

christoff (christoff), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

56) The Delgados - Aye Today

surely not!

i haven't played 'the great eastern' in a while, (maybe i should) but this was one of my favourites once upon a time.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

58. Joy Division - "New Dawn Fades"

Whaaaaat? This is one of the best songs on UP!

60 Mercury Rev "The Hudson Line"

mike Donnelly, Monday, 19 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

61. Yellow Submarine. Surely.
62. Nightvision by Daft Punk. And, in a similar vein to Lord C.O.'s post, if I'm feeling particularly severe and unwilling to put up with the sporadic shite/genius, everything from there on.

Jim Robinson (Original Miscreant), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

63. David Byrne, "Wicked Little Dog"

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

T. Rex -- "Rip Off"; after a nearly flawless half-hour groove through Electric Warrier, why subject oneself to such bombast?

?!?!?! Sean, Di, others to thread!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

man, skipping that is a rip off, such a rip off.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone else do the skipping of the most famous song on the CD. (because you've already heard it so much on the radio or elsewhere)?

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The one on Deltron 3030 where Money Mark is just rambling like a doofusy old man.

x-post nope

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I sometimes skip 'Common People' for that reason.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

All this mention of radiohead and no mention of the screamingly obvious...

64: radiohead - planet telex

(I wonder if weak first tracks are most likely to be skipped.)

bnw (bnw), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I sorta like the way it starts the album on a shimmering note.

(It occurs to me that I really don't ever recall skipping any track from an album on a regular basis.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

65. Sinead O'Connor -- I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got
66. Led Zeppelin -- The Crunge (I like it, but most people seem to hate it)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 19 January 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

marvin gaye, from "what's going on": save the children. on the vinyl i've encountered this track infuriatingly segues into "god is love," one of the best tracks on the album, making its skippage difficult (yet still necessary of course)

brains (cerybut), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Planet Telex? Nu?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The last track on Neu's first album, with the really painful-sounding hoarse vocals.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

70 David Bowie - Eight Line Poem

pete s, Monday, 19 January 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

71. McLusky - Clique Application Form
72. Sonic Youth - Nic Fit

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

magnetic fields - punk rock love

artiste, Monday, 19 January 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

74. The Replacements, "My Little Problem" - All Shook Down
75. Dinosaur jr, "Poledo" - You're Living All Over Me
76. Faith No More, "Woodpecker from Mars" - The Real Thing

I would say that most people skip tracks if A.) the song is sung by someone other than the lead vocalist or B.) it's an instrumental. I don't agree with this, and there are certainly many exceptions. As a rule of thumb, however...

Word to your "Mother", deleone.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not going to list them because it's all a matter of taste etc., but there are quite a few tracks being mentioned here that, while I wouldn't say are the *best* songs on the album, are certainly good and not ones I can imagine skipping. But I always have listened to an album all the way through more or less my whole life. Maybe if I tire of an album or just want a taste and put another one on, I'll play the first side/stop it half way through, but not skip a particular track. But that's just how I listen to music.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I do remember, after playing it through a few times, listening to Use Your Illusion I-II by playing selected tracks, but not really singling out one specific one to skip. Again, this is just my listening habit.

Sean (Sean), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

77. Four Tet "No More Mosquitos"

tipustiger, Monday, 19 January 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Rachel, Monday, 19 January 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What the fuck? "Planet Telex" is the best song on that album!

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Monday, 19 January 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

80. The Pogues - Gentleman Soldier
81. The Pogues - Fiesta
82. The Pogues - Summer in Siam

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Monday, 19 January 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E is fantastic - I wouldn't say anything on Different Class is skippable.

I'm like Sean in that I rarely skip songs - only if they are really poor would I consider doing that. I prefer to play an album in its entirety.

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Monday, 19 January 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

83. R.E.M. - Radio Song

Zach S (feedback), Monday, 19 January 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

#77 totally OTM.

84. Rachel's - "Sirens"

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 January 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Re; Joni - "The Jungle Line" is my favorite song of The Hissing of Summer Lawns!

I think the amount of dissenting voices shouting 'no way!' on this thread is an interesting testament to the vast subjectivity of music in general.

That said...

NWA "Approach to Danger"
Modest Mouse "Tiny Cities..."

and I skip "Stacy's Mom" only half the time - like whenever anyone is in earshot.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Modest Mouse "Tiny Cities..."

No way!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually, no, I like that one but I can see how it could be skipped.)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

87. Bjork - "Pluto"
I like it but most people I know skip it.

88. Miss Kittin & The Hacker - "Stripper"
It's just annoying.

Seb, Monday, 19 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Every song on the Microphones' "Mt. Eerie." For me, anyway. What an annoying album.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Monday, 19 January 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

89. Flaming Lips - Approaching Pavonis Mons By Balloon (Utopia Planitia)

kickitcricket, Monday, 19 January 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 19 January 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

91. Radiohead - "Fitter happier"

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 19 January 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Every song on the Microphones' "Mt. Eerie." For me, anyway. What an annoying album.

glad I'm not the only one who thought this.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 19 January 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

No "Fitter Happier" is too short to be worth of skipping. More like "Electioneering"

Anyway...
92. Dire Straits: Les Boys
93. Love: Revelation
94. Jean Michel Jarre: Waiting For Costeau

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 19 January 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Electioneering" is my favorite track on that stupid album, I'll have you know.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

jaymc otm wrt Rachel's. cheers!

Sean M (Sean M), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

95. Orbital - "Quality Seconds"

Vinnie (vprabhu), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince "Venus De Milo" - but to be fair it makes sense on vinyl as it acts as the outro of side 1.

Jedmond, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

That was 96 of course.

Jedmond, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

60. Velvet Underground, 'The Murder Mystery'
-- Hayden Nicholls (whatamazin...), January 19th, 2004.

Beat me to it (by a long shot). Never skip "Sister Ray"; always skip "The Murder Mystery."

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I never skip murder mystery. That's one of my favorites

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. I'm always just too damned anxious to get to "After Hours" I guess. Heh.

Salmon Pink (Salmon Pink), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Funny thing is "Fitter Happier" is one of my b'fs fave tracks on that album, but he likes Jean Michelle Jarre, so eh.

I'd vote for "Ballarat" by the Lemonheads (from Lovey), but thats me always skipping it to track two, dunno if I'm alone in that...

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Smiths Handsome Devil

for some reason i just skip it. not sure why.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

For completely different reason:
Daft Punk - 'One More Time' & 'Too Long'

also, Nico 'The End'

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck, I missed out. Well, this goes in the Also Receiving Votes section: I once burned myself a re-ordered copy of The Lonesome Crowded West to avoid the beginning of Modest Mouse's "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" until I'd gotten to hear all the better tracks first. (I put it after the end, along with Shit Luck and Trucker's Atlas.)

clh, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"Too Long" is one of the most aptly titled tracks evah ;)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The second half of "Watching Me Fall" by The Cure. If any track in history didn't need to be 11 minutes long, it was that one.

Stupid (Stupid), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The super-skippable track on _Bloodflowers_ is "Where The Birds Always Sing" aka "Okay Maybe I Am A Repetitive Twat After All".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I like that song. Be quiet.

Stupid (Stupid), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Drop the crack, buddy!
'Where the Birds' is one of the least contrived/repetitive tracks on BF. '39', on the other hand, has rarely been played in my house..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, if people are gonna take shots at MY two favorite songs on the album ("Watching Me Fall", "The Loudest Sound" CUSTOS GET THE NAME RIGHT), I can take my own shots at the tracks I find lacking.

(xpost And right on cue, someone goes after fave track #3.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

At least no one is mental enought to skip "Out Of This World".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Watching My Fall. I only skip the second half. It's just twice as long as it should be, that's all.

Stupid (Stupid), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

'There is no if' is pretty skippable too, if only cuz it disrupts the flow of the album. Why, 'Coming Up' was not included instead is beyond me..

And there goes another thread...

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

But if you skip the second half, you miss the climax of the whole song! It's kind of like skipping the second half of "From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea" (admittedly it's 4 minutes longer but it never feels that way to me).

Xpost: Haha I often skip to "There Is No If"! I agree though that "Coming Up" or "Spilt Milk" should have been on the album, though.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

(If I'd made it to this thread in time I would have said "Army Of Me" and drawn ire from the Bjork fans as well as the other Cure fans, heh.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, as a stand-alone piece TINF is fine. Could have been a good single.

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

YES. "'If you die' she said/'So do I' she said" I LOVE THAT COUPLET.

The song "Bloodflowers" also doesn't get enough love.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Janes Addiction - Of Course

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

MADNESS AGAIN. The skippable track on that album is "Ain't No Right".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Why, that's the best one by far!! Esp, the 'Between you and me...' bridge, where the guitars go all Figurehead-y..

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Janet Jackson, "You Could Be Mine"

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

(Haha I should get a T-shirt that says "Dan Perry Is A Contrary Motherfucker")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

OK Computer just does not work without "Electioneering". It'd be like a storm without lightning.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Daft Punk - 'One More Time'

Most nonsensical entry on this whole thread.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bloodflowers" does have the best bridge on the album, yes. Mmmm, I must listen to that album as soon as I get home now.

Haha I also would have said Basement Jaxx - "Same Old Show"!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

re. One More Time:

"(being skipped over is no indication of quality, positive or negative)"

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but... seriously, who skips over it? If y'r gonna say Daft Punk, I'd have to guess that more of us(them?) got over "Around the World" quicker.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"Rollin' And Scratchin'"!!!!!!!!!! (Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one...)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever track 2 is on Homework = most obvious answer of them all.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess track 6 on Discovery falls into the same category...

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"Revolution 909"? That does make sense from the standpoint that it takes the track 3 years to become an unstoppable juggernaut (plus the huge single is on right after it).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello?

Aerodynamic???

????????????????????

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely nobody skips Aerodynamic.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Soory, had misread yr post Eric...

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Smashing Pumpkins - Heavy Metal Machine

Ugh, what a mess.

Stupid (Stupid), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

24. Black Sabbath - Am I going insane?
77. Four Tet "No More Mosquitos"
As for the above, I don't believe that Sab's is a massively skipped tune; for quite a few people I know, that's one of their faves on the album.
And "Mosquitos"?! Why would one avoid such a fun track? (Because one hates 'fun'? OK, but still...)

As for the below... "Mother" sure gets ditched regularly, by kids and grown ups eveywhere. Have seen that.(I really rather like "Mother" myself, tho)
"Rip Off" - oh yes. 'Electric Warrior' was the first record I ever bought and, after the first listen, oh boy did I skip that last song.
25. The Police - "Mother" / 91. "Mother" by the Police
61. T.Rex -- "Rip Off"

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Janes Addiction - Of Course

Matt DC is so fucking SPOT ON that he's practically a PROPHET!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Dan... I thought "Rev 909" (which is the album's BEST song, probably) was track 3. I was talking about that booming radio-style interlude thing. Is that not a separate track?

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't remember, actually. I was guessing as to which track was #2 and trying to come up with a rationale.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I just looked it up and track 3 is "Rev 909," which I hope not too many skip over.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh, what a mess.

Hey now. (I lurv that chorus I do.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Jane's Addiction - Of Course

NONONONONONO. "Been Caught Stealing" is the one.

rainman (rainman), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

An endlessly fascinating thread - no matter your choice, somebody's bound to come back with "Are you insane? That's the best song!" I nominate "We Will Fall" off THE STOOGES and "Doo-doo Chasers" from ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE, and I await denunciations of these choices.

Scott, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Pavement - All of Spiral's songs

angel duster, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hear hear for 'We Will Fall' - overlong John Cale wank piece on an otherwise rockin' album.

Lots of people cut The Fall's 'And This Day' short on the Hip Priest & Kamerads album.

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one who skips "Song For Europe" on Roxy Music's _Stranded_?

Clarke B., Wednesday, 21 January 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ugh, what a mess.
Hey now. (I lurv that chorus I do.)

-- Ned Raggett"

Oh come now. Heavy Metal Machine is the best proof anyone has that Billy Corgan lives in his own little reality where that sort of thing sounds like anything other than a hissing mess.

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay own little reality!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn.

No one mentioned Faust - Krautrock.

djdee2005, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably because a lot of people who like Faust like that song!

4kflka, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A lot of people love B.O.B. and One More Time too! I just never have the patience for that track...I mean, it strikes me as a joke that works better in concept than execution.

djdee2005, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The Clash - "Lover's Rock"
Pixies - "Hey"
Travis - "The Last Laugh of the Laughter"

Lewis J. Bateman (Lewis Bateman), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

We will fall - Nope.
Lovers Rock - Nope. (not crazy about it but like it enough)
Krautrock - again, why listen to the album if youre not going to? Desperate to hear "the sad skinhead"?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

the Daft Punk track i would've picked would be 'Rock n' Roll' - i love track 2 on Homework ('WDPK 83.7FM')

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Pavement - side 3 of wowee zowie. sooooo unsatisfying to put on ONE side of vinyl so I never did.

hmmm, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Outkast - Snappin' and Trappin'

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Charlie Freak~Steely Dan
It's A Mans World~JB

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Absolutely no one will agree with me, but I skip over "Lost in the Supermarket" by the Clash EVERY. DAMN. TIME!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Joe's song for Mick to sing ? ? ! ?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The same.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Inca Eyeball - "Tattoo of an Arab" (from the Quattro Symbolos cd).

tod (tod), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

...and every other song on Patti Smith's "Horses", probably.

tod (tod), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Horses in its awful entirety is ripe for skipping over.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

it's been so long since i last played it, you might be right!

tod (tod), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

He's not.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yes I am.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

My eyes have learnt to automatically skip 'Horses' when browsing for CDs on my shelves...

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I borrowed it from a library once...

... I guess you had to have been there at the time...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex? How can anyone hate "Redondo Beach" or "Free Money" or "Gloria"!?
I might skip "La Mer(de)" but the rest of that record is awesome.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

How can anyone hate "Redondo Beach" or "Free Money" or "Gloria"!?

`Cos they all SUCK, especially fuckin' "Redondo Beach," which is so awful that her record contract should have been shredded on the spot. It makes Ace of Base sound like Peter Tosh.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah!
I refuse to participate in the hallucination which you are currently experiencing.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU JUST CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH, M'LORD!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"We Will Fall" is pure evil, way more evil than a thousand heavy metal bands with illegible graphics on their album covers, and it should be cherished as such. Swans' Michael Gira sure did.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Thursday, 22 January 2004 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU JUST CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH, M'LORD!
< DENIAL MODE>Your copy of Horses must've been mastered wrong. Those songs are brilliant.< /DENIAL MODE>

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, now that you mention it, maybe i can use this thread to ask something about my digitally remastered version of Horses: about 2 minutes into "Break it up" (where she's singing "ice, it was shining..." -- i just checked), there's what seems to be digitally glitches that kinda goes in time with the music for several seconds, almost as though she's pounding her chest as she sings. i checked with a second copy, and it had the same thing.

do you have this? it's not supposed to sound like that, right?

tod (tod), Thursday, 22 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

big day big day god why didn't they just keep mermaid smiled on there (in US natch) and remove that absolute awful tripe track. I just envision bobbing Moulding heads bouncing around a wedding cake, "So-you-want-to-tie-the-knot (pause) Tie-it-tight-don't-let-it-rot (pause)" ugh

caspar (caspar), Thursday, 22 January 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the Rapture's "Open Up Your Heart" would be the definition of this. Nice song 'n' all but shoulda stuck it at the end.

fcussen (Burger), Thursday, 22 January 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The positioning of Open Up Your Heart is brilliant, the way it appears so early in the album and trashes received ideas about what The Rapture are or should be 'about'.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 January 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It sure does, but still, if you didn't have any received ideas to start with, it does disrupt the whole thing.

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Thursday, 22 January 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly, completely fucks with the funky mope-party.

(x-post: what Baaderist sed)

fcussen (Burger), Thursday, 22 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)
