i was at a party + sum idiot put on andrew wk.if he was 14 i maybe would have forgiven him but he was in his late twenties.so was the roomfull of people dancing to it.that made me sad.

sirus (sirus), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

people should listen to whatever kind of music makes them happy....there's no such thing as being too old, in my opinion.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

People over the age of 10 shouldn't be using "sum" in a sentence, so it balances things out.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You're wrong M@tt, federal guidelines now have pre-established lists of acceptable artists one can listen to within a given age range. Anyone caught listening to artists outside that range can be fined or arrested of statutory rocking.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

wise words from robotico.

sirus (sirus), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

EMO, AHEM, EMO.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Bob Dylan.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm 30 and Andrew WK rocks my world. People being sad about other people having a good time = SUXX0R U ALL R GAY.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 26 January 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

haha donut....by the way, I just did a little AMG and found that the band Boris the Sprinkler had a song called "Statutory Rock" which may be about the same subject...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not terribly against people listening to garbage, but I am against people thinking it is the real deal. (i.e. "The Darkness" being representative of hair metal .. etc.)

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost

Bob Dylan

No doubt....I'll never understand these young kids and their Bob Dylan....you call that singing?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

spoken like a wk fan.

sirus (sirus), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew WK fanizzles always spizzle like thizzle.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Over 25 people shouldn't listen to elevator music because of occupancy restrictions.

jazz odysseus, Monday, 26 January 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Music no one over 25 should listen to:

Linkin Park
Weezer
Rancid
Fugazi
Evanescence
Thursday
Beautiful South
P.O.D.
Deftones
Connells
Good Charlotte
Minor Threat
Wonderstuff
Elvis Presley
Beethoven

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

How about music that people UNDER the age of 25 should not be listening to?

Put that jazz record away and listen to some Britney, dammit! You have the rest of your life to listen to old fogey music!

the river fleet, Monday, 26 January 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG THAT IS SO KFUNNY

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

nobody over 25 should listen to music. period.
music is the burden of the young, with their Atlas-like temerity and shaved hoo-has.

http://i.cnn.net/cnn/2004/WORLD/europe/01/26/pope.breakdancers.ap/story.pope.dancer.2.jpg

OMG THE POPE TTLY R0XX0RZ!!

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Why Beethovan? (seriously i'm wondering I know zero about classical music...is he considered adolescent or something?)

If you took away Fugazi's, Beautful South's, Elvis's, and Wonderstuff's over-25 listenership, they wouldn't have many fans left.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I would've been ready to post an answer like M@tt's first one, but Ian is kinda otm

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell's wrong with someone over 25 listening to the Wonder Stuff, Ott, you cabbage handler!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The answer Matt is....no.
I'm guessing it was a joke.

pete s, Monday, 26 January 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Same thing as someone under 25 listening to them.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

People shouldn't be allowed to listen to music at all until they're 25.

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm guessing Beethoven's on there as a sort of "escape the canon" thing, but personally, I plan on listening to more Beethoven as I get older.

dleone (dleone), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Beethoven's for beginners and fence-sitters.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Why? What don't you like about Beethovan?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

All Industrial music.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

nobody younger than me should be allowed to have more fun than me, even when I am 90

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell you on about Kenan?

There's nowt better than our Ludwig. Bring it on!

pete s, Monday, 26 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Beck?

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

SLIPKNOT

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell you on about Kenan?

Nothing. I was kidding. Just trying to read the intention of Ott's comment.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

whoops sorry

and i spose we'ill never know if he was kidding

pete s, Monday, 26 January 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

people over 25 shouldn't listen to crap. then again, neither should people at or under 25.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

But what babies listen to could be considered crap, couldn't it?

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

What?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, shut up!

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

25 is a bit of an odd cut off point isn't it? can we move it to, say, 37? or 16?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

30?

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

some babies listen to very good music ... some mothers play classical to their kids when they're in the womb.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

then there's also this:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000001YCG.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

hes so happy! he just done poopy!

pete s, Monday, 26 January 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, ok.

What about those young girls that listen to those girl groups? You know, those artists that mainly sing pop songs. I hate those kinds of groups.

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd hazard a guess that most of the people who think "music that people over 25 shouldn't listen to" is a sensible or witty idea are themselves about 23 years old and have been affecting the world-weary pose since high school, where it was also annoying

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Btw no-one should listen to 'Spem in Alium' till they're 43.

pete s, Monday, 26 January 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

White Stripes

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

How many people submitting actual answers (i.e. list of bands) to this asinine question are older than 25?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew WK sounds like 80s hair metal, and I guess most of those who are nostalgic about 80s hair metal are now 25 or more...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

People should listen to whatever the hell they want at whatever age they want, if it makes them happy.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You saying that because you listen to Minor Threat, Alex?

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn fuckin' tooin' I do.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Excuse me....tooTin'.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, what's wrong with Minor Threat? I'm curious.

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I thought the same thing about that Minor Threat post. I think it's just fine to listen to them after you're 25. I know I will.

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree that there are clothes people should stop wearing after 25, but the enjoyment of music shouldn't be stipulated in such a way.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Regarding Minor Threat, I'd say the vast majority of people who do listen to them are over 25, given that the band's been broken up since the mid-80s.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

If people over 25 had not listened to Andrew WK, then nobody would. Nobody under the age of 25 would ever want to listen to hair metal, and, as opposed to traditional song-oriented melodic quality pop, I see no reason why anybody should make them.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

am i the only one who doesn't think that andrew wk sounds like 80s hair-metal?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree that there are clothes people should stop wearing after 25, but the enjoyment of music shouldn't be stipulated in such a way.

I agree.

One time I was on the bus and there was this woman between the ages of 55 and 65 on the bus. She was wearing a red shirt, short skirt, FISH NET STOCKINGS, and black high heels. Creeped me out.

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if there is a certain kind of young clothes trend that is really tasteless, then making old people wear the same kind of clothes will usually get rid of said trend quickly. So not always a bad thing. :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

One time I was on the bus and there was this woman between the ages of 55 and 65 on the bus. She was wearing a red shirt, short skirt, FISH NET STOCKINGS, and black high heels.

Her name? Burma Kitty.

mk, Monday, 26 January 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

POW! BLAMMO!

..., Monday, 26 January 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

No! My mom might wear something like that, but she's not THAT old.

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Geir, I love the way that your answers are exactly the same, no matter what the subject of the thread is....It's sort of like those Onion advice columns they do like "Ask a Janitor" or whatever...

ex. Thread: TS: Megadeth Vs. Slayer

Geir: Obviously neither, because neither have any melodic value. :-)

Thread: I just paid $55 dollars for No New York - did I get ripped off?

Geir: Even one dollar is too much for that overrated curio of non-melodic racket. The new Travis song is great.

Thread: At what point did DJ Premier lose his "mojo"?

Geir: The Beatles were the greatest band off all time, because they used very poignant melodies and complex compositional techniques.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

This all sounds like a poor diversion to me since I think any rational person would consider listening to the world's worst music to still be better than obsessively posting on an internet bulletin board, no?

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree that there are clothes people should stop wearing after 25, but the enjoyment of music shouldn't be stipulated in such a way.

Why the double standard?

I understand some people under 25 are still growing, so they buy clothes because they can't fit in them anymore, or there are cultural standards which dictate what one wears in school, at work, etc. for some (and I stress "some") so obviously choices of clothes are going to be dictated by age more than music, which doesn't rely on physical or financial factors as much as clothes/fashion.

But if a 50-year-old wants to twee herself out grrrrly style, why not? I see 40-year-old dudes dress in those buttless humongo jeans and sideways baseball hats pretty often (at least in Seattle). I don't see a huge difference between the standard as being applied to both clothes or music, that's all...

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

there's this lady in her late 40s/early 50s who dresses rave-stylee. i see her walking to work in hoboken every day. it's really embarrassing, esp. when she wears those big-ass boots that were in, what, 10 years ago?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

If a lady of 50 is dressing rave-stylee, she will hopefully help get rid of the entire rave trend. Which is a good thing.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't see a huge difference between the standard as being applied to both clothes or music, that's all...

Maybe because listening to music is usually relegated to the privacy of one's home (or one's headphones), and essentially, music is for everyone. Whereas a individual on the north side of, say, fifty-five wearing a thong is just WRONG!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly!

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Fannypack already settled this debate.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Whereas a individual on the north side of, say, fifty-five wearing a thong is just WRONG!

Why?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It's gross!

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

And since when are thongs are supposed to be necessarily "young 'uns only" territory anyway?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm actually asking that in a rhetorical way, not in a combative way)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Woman over 55 should not have an active sex life. That is why they should not wear thongs.

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Women. sorry

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wearing thongs != having sex.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

aja is age-ist.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

(I feel like I'm in some Intercom text based massively multi-player adventure game arguing ethical fashion issues with some avatar named "Aja")

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

No I'm not age-ist

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

And how does that make you feel?

Eliza (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

then why can't the oldsters be hittin them skinz?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

And how does that make you feel?

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just not normal

Aja (aja), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(I've just proven to what a high degree a geek I am by laughing at that joke)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

explain the joke, please?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 January 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

People over 25 shouldn't listen to Fugazi??

Someone please explain this to me...

blahblahblah, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, that one too.

I totally disagree!

Aja (aja), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

M@tt- http://www-ai.ijs.si/eliza/eliza.html

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

am i the only one who doesn't think that andrew wk sounds like 80s hair-metal?

not at all! i think "party til you puke" sounds like prince ("let's go crazy") and i think that "got to do it" sounds like a new order song ("love vigilantes" but only for the verses... i can imagine new order transporting to the future and covering this.)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a joke right?

Aja (aja), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The first WK album sounds like a modern day take on Gary Glitter/Sweet/Bay City Rollers with a gruff voice. The second one is just all the bad filler tracks from the albums from that era, save "I Love Music".

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Raffi.

Scott, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Indierock. I mean, not exclusively anyway.

may pang (maypang), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

What about men over 55? Should they not have sex, too?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree that there are clothes people should stop wearing after 25

Yeah, like band t shirts.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

har.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

What about men over 55? Should they not have sex, too?

Not in public, they shouldn't.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You're never too old for band t-shirt. I intend to be wearing my My Bloody Valentine shirt when I die. Of old age.

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

When you die, the shirt will be wearing you.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

...you think t-shirts are gunna take over the world?

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

What about men over 55? Should they not have sex, too?

Not in public, they shouldn't.

Supposedly various Sunbelt retirement magnet cities have been hit with a wave of retiree-age couples having sex in public. On the one hand I definitely don't want to see such acts in progress. On the other hand I'm glad that precendents are being set for golden-years sex.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Why would you want to have sex with an old person when you could just pay a young person?

Stupid (Stupid), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, like band t shirts.

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not wearing a band t-shirt right now, but I'm going to go put one on just to snub my nose at that claim.

the only acceptable band t shirts are Bedazzled ones
