Yeah, a great lost album that I've never seen for sale either. It came out at an awful time too (first week of January.)
Reinghard Voigt played "La Ritournelle" in his DJ set when I saw him.

I've always thought of it as much more orchestral, like Scott Walker or something. There's nothing really electronic about the track.

I know the liner notes say something about one/more of the tracks accompanying a film? Maybe that would shed some light, don't have em handy though. And there are those little cryptic statements/synopses after each lyric in there, too...

Me too! Which made picking up Tellier's L'Incroyable Vérité confusing and previewing Politics at the FNAC in Paris disappointing. It may be whacked-out, leftfield, and synth-laden, but it certainly didn't win me over.
So...for those of you wondering -- or if this fact hasn't yet been revealed -- do not expect anything resembling "La Ritournelle" on Politics [or L'Incroyable Vérité].

The absurdly Toto-istic "Wonderafrica" is sometimes my favorite over "La Ritournelle" - great percussion and quite crazy lyrics.
― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)
Perhaps this bodes well for a wider release?
― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)
Fell in love with Fantino the moment I heard it, on the Lost In Translation soundtrack. Then proceeded to download politics, but it too months to start listening to it, it didn't happen till yesterday. I'm listening to "Broadway" and "League Chicanos" almost non stop now. Most of the other tracks sound great too, except the last three tracks, which are very odd and too 'rough' for me.
I don't get what people see in Ritournelle - the middle bit with the singing is great, but otherwise it's pretty boring and repetitive.
I've ordered L'Incroyable Verité from USA because I can't find it anywhere here, can't even download it on direct connect :(

There are 3, Phonica only has samples of 2 though, one is a sort of laidback disco or parliament type jam with the "ooooh" vocal kind of looped. The other is sort of deadpan almost DFA electrodisco, but both manage to stay really tasteful and dignified like the original and still are really cool and definitely danceable.
what a lovely story, for all of us.

Record Makers has just reissued his full score for the film Narco. There's already a soundtrack out there, featuring about half of the score padded with pop tunes; I'm kind of curious to hear the whole thing now. The stuff I have heard is very much in the style of L'Incroyable Verite.
