Waddayathink?

John Cocktolstoy, Friday, 10 September 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Darkchild?!? What were they thinking?

Rich (Rich), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

interesting how minimal - wish it were a bit warmer, though. too "milkshake"-y for DC. whats this from? soundtrack?

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a "normal" single I think. Found an mp3 link too:
http://www.the-ladies.com/destiny/dc-losemybreath-official.mp3

I must say I think it's excellent, then again I could be Darkchild's prison bitch anyday.

John Cocktolstoy, Friday, 10 September 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

NEW ALBUM FROM DESTINY'S CHILD "DESTINY FULFILLED" IN STORES NOVEMBER 16, 2004!
Brand new single "Lose My Breath"

(from their site)

ok, I'll stop now

John Cocktolstoy, Friday, 10 September 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

not bad.. its a good first single. im sure the bigger hits will come down the line.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

omg!!!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Like it.

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

HOORAY HOORAY HOORAY!!!!!!

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

HOT.

That is some straight-up Southern marching band shit, I love it.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god this is garbage. one of the only times I've ever heard a DJ diss a record right after premiering it. it's as shrill as unpleasant as "Survivor" except even more offensive because it's trying to pass itself off as fun.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently the next r&b trend = paradiddle-diddles.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM Al, especially with the "Survivor" connection. A total mess.

Rich (Rich), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, Al you sound like you don't like the record BECAUSE the DJ dissed it!

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This blows! It sounds like a halftime show!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i love survivor...

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. DJs are right, ILM is wrong. this is a universal rule, I find.

(x-post)

Al (sitcom), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate "Survivor" and find this new one to be great.

This blows! It sounds like a halftime show!

DOES NOT COMPUTE. Every song should sound like a halftime show.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It sounds like a halftime show!

Nah, it sounds like a parade down South with kids playing the shit out of the drums, trying to blow down the band from the school across town.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the perfect song to compliment the good mood that I'm in as a result of hearing that Hot 8 mp3.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Every song should sound like a halftime show.

Dude, fuck that. ELVIS PRESTO, I tell you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys do know that this song was officially premiered at the NFL kickoff event yesterday, right?

Al (sitcom), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the drums are mad fun, agreed, but i wish it were a bit more, er, melodious.

< / geir >

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe it's secretly a remake of "Tusk."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

DUNG-SCENTED PABULUM MANUFACTURED BY EVIL REPLICANTS!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

haha

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't call it a mess but I would say it's the most unambitious single of the year (no small feat when "Goodies" is the reigning No. 1). God I hate it when artists don't put their best foot forward with the lead single.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I say this in a totally respectful and heartfelt way: Someone, anyone, needs to publish a collection of Alex in NYC's greatest epithets and insults, and title it "DUNG-SCENTED PABULUM MANUFACTURED BY EVIL REPLICANTS!"

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, the first two things that leapt to MY mind when comparing this song to the rest of the pop/R&B landscape were "unambitious" and "unmelodic".

Seriously, are you people listening to the same song?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

actually on listen #3 i am now in love.

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Methinks it's rhythmically exciting and filled with a certain restraint of attitude, almost the total opposite of that shrill "Survivor" garbage. It might be my fave single of theirs since Ind't Women....if not Bug-a-Boo! A tight, efficient song - maybe not burning the world down Crazy in Love like, but hot all the same

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

a return to bugaboo! fantastic

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i do not hold high hopes for this as soon as i get to hear it.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the PERFECT way to start off this weekend. God i love friday afternoon anthems.
i thank you dearly for the link John Cocktolstoy.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is brilliant! Tight and controlled.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone else like "survivor"?

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

no.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

does this actually include the words "never give yourself to a man in adolescence" ?

nice.

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

haha omg

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

You movin' so slow like just don't have a clue
Didn't Mama teach you to give affection
Know the difference from a man and an adolescent

ow grammar (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

(And that difference is...)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

10 to 20 up north

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess my interpretation was more fantasy-fulfillment, since the thought of an adolescent beyonce in a catholic schoolgirl uniform, britney-like, giving herself to various men in the video while she's singing that line, would be kind of interesting. but thanks anyway dan.

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

regardless this song can be immeasurably helped or hurt by the quality of the video...as good as it, it's one of "those" type of singles i think. let's hope it's more than a marching band.

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I predict hotpants.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It worked for 'The Jump-Off'.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a suckers bet

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

(haha, I meant the marching band, but hot pants works too)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You're all fucking mentalists, this is great.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Matt DC makes the harsh aggro posts so I don't have to!

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like that middle bit of Pass The Dutch compressed x10 with added portentious string stabs.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like In Da Club meets Drumline, except in a good way.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

this sounds like ass!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

are you responding to those descriptions or are you actually listening to it now?

Al (sitcom), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the former

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

the speaker/headphone port on this computer is fucked

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You'll probably hate it, Jess. And that makes me sad.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't like anything these days

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the radio is too "dark" for me

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

just leave me be with my old jazz records and my tea

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The handclaps mixed with the marching snares in this is hot shit.

(x-post, ha)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, this is song is pretty great. What are all the complaints about again?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

okay has the world gone insane

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Jess, it has.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no marching band OH NO!!

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Works for me. Recycled, certainly, but fun.
ass-whuppin' comes to mind.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i can see how that might be a legit complaint actually but this sounds so kick-ass and spare and lean like a hot young hot-pant clad colorguard girl coming right upto you and doing her flag routine in your face as you stare at her tight sweater it makes the whole band thing seem like its actually cool and makes you want to go to ft lauderdale w/ them before your junior year

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

loverly and accurate, vic.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

(This is still not as good as any previous DC singles, mind)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: upthread, I like "Survivor" a lot. I don't think this is anything like it though.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the first couple of seconds are fine, but then it turns into some "scary" matrix-tie-in soda commercial thing and it loses me. aside from the drums, what's here?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, was it meant to be scary?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

also, MORE HARMONY PLS THX BYE

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF you want more than the drums?! Why?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i want for the lame synth stabs to GO AWAY

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it has a good beat and U can dance to it

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

lame synth stabs

I like 'em better than the ones on "Survivor"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Multiple listens now and this only increases in terminal velocity and leaves a deeper footprint. Futurist music, for robots by robots, disposible only insofar as it's likely to be remade and remixed next week by band x as song y for the next twenty years. Bring on the next iteration; how much faster can the cadence get?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

why do robots always have to be so damn robotlike?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Gary Numan's more human than any of us.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

the synth stabs are gonna inspire all those discrete, staccato dance moves in the vid!!! it's all being done with a grand vision intact, you see. beyonce, somersaulting down the football field wearing hot pants and a mauve boa, turning out keanu-like matrix moves as jay-z gues-spots banging a cumbal in the foreground. kelly and michelle are lead tight sweater color guard ziombies in unison as they keep upthe handclaps. beyonce leaps up w/ the the phallic-symbolic javelin in gratuitous slo-mo shots, then jump cuts fade into her doing the high jump as we see up her hot pants, as the song fades into snippet of ANOTHER DC TRACK on the album, giving u a lil' commercial of it the way missy would do in her videos, and then it all triumphantly ends. do u understand why we need synth stabs now??

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

think FOSSE in that sweet charity number, but on a football field w/ booty-shaking ass-mamas like Bring it On had

ok it's getting a bit repetitive now, but i've been listening to it for two hours staight and its like the roboticity is becoming one w/ my mind and invigorating me

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You could replace the "stabs" with trumpet blares a'la Crazy in Love and increase the party quotient on this by six. Miscalculation on someone's part. Call in NASA.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

its not as engaging as that beyonce song and doesnt have as long a play-life but none of their old singles were really that um, harmonious?or what's the word i'm looking for.... varied-sounding ? they seemed like repetitive little snippets of rhythmic noise, like jumping - jumping. this goes back to that, i think, but sounds a bit more mechanized and austere.

Vic (Vic), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually the synth stabs aren't great - its like the vocals and the drums deserve more in between them. Maybe so much work went into the rest of it that they ran out of time and went "ah, fuck it, lets just chuck some Eminem gothic thing in between, no one will notice".

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This is absolutely brilliant all around. The gothy horrorsynths mixed in with the "go away boy, I want a MAN" lyrics make this the perfect merger of Chris & Cosey and Xscape.

Also, good on them for takaing a page for The Sugarbabes and doing a song which is essentially the three of them trading off the lead vocal without all of the obligatory girl-group harmonizing that everyone expects them to do. I imagine them performing this song with the person singing lead up front while the other two beat the shit out of blow-up dolls.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Why hasn't Dan embarked on a video directing career yet?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

'it's as shrill as unpleasant as "Survivor" except even more offensive because it's trying to pass itself off as fun.'

Survivor was awes, I wish this sounded like that! i LOVE survivor and I HELLA love marching bands, but this seems really limp to me (despite being pretty fast and punchy)(also EVERYTHING sounds limp on these computer speakers) I dunno, the hook kinda sucks a whole bunch and I thought the Jump Off/Tear It Up do the marching band thing a lot better. (there's no HORNS in this wtf those In da club strings are stupid!!!) It's all blaghaslghg and then the end. B's vocal performance is pretty sweet tho with lots of nice Goodies-esque moments, but I miss said girl-group harmonizing a lot! I guess it worked for the Sugababes because I didn't know who the hell they were. maybe this'll grow on me, but right now it's the godzuki to Say my name's Godzilla.

\(^o^)/ (Adrian Langston), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

He's tried, Ned, but kept shouting "FUCK YOU! I HATE YOU! YOU DON'T GIVE ME ANY FUCKING RESPECT! YOU WOULDN'T TREAT A PROFESSIONAL LIKE THIS! I WAS ASKED TO DO THIS AND YOU WEREN'T, SO FUCKING DEAL WITH IT BUT DEAL WITH IT ON YOUR OWN TIME YOU SMALL-MINDED ASSHOLE!" and storming off set.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahah. (I just read that!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard this yet but W.T.F. everyone "Survivor" is brilliant!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Survivor" is a prolonged fart.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Just listened to it for a third and second time and absolutely no complaints. People who don't like it are just OLD and out of touch with DA KIDS.

BTW, the best Destinys tune is obviously the magnificent 'Get On the Bus Child.'

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK YOU! I HATE YOU! YOU DON'T GIVE ME ANY FUCKING RESPECT! YOU WOULDN'T TREAT A PROFESSIONAL LIKE THIS! I WAS ASKED TO DO THIS AND YOU WEREN'T, SO FUCKING DEAL WITH IT BUT DEAL WITH IT ON YOUR OWN TIME YOU SMALL-MINDED ASSHOLE etc etc.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

(I have to also add that this is the first time Michelle sounds good on a Destiny's Child record.)

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Your fired anyway. And take these ridiculous blow-up dolls with you.

Beyonce Knowles (Alba), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

If there are more people out there like me than I think there are, this will be their "If".

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

your fired

Beyoncé has a very poor grasp of grammar - she flunked English classes because she was too busy arguing with Dan about choreography routines.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

this song is worse than getting a lacerated cervix from a cunt shanking!

btw, kelly's on the Headsprung remix she sounds great!

\(^o^)/ (Adrian Langston), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw baby, I'll be your English tutor no wait you don't like my choreography TASTE THE GRIT BETWEEN MY TOES oh shit I was gonna kick you but hey keep on with that video what video?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost Oh for fuck's sake.)

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

How happy would my life have been had I never seen the phrase "cunt shanking"? NOW WE WILL NEVER KNOW.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

it's happier for sure.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I got some new CDs today

\(^o^)/ (Adrian Langston), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

...

CDs NUTZ

\(^o^)/ (Adrian Langston), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, that made me laugh. I'm getting off the internet now.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck this noise

Soukesian, Friday, 10 September 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

*listens again* Even better the second time I think! Great song.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It does help if you imagine the blow-up dolls.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Get on the Bus is fucking awesome
xpost mega.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 11 September 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

lost interest half-way through.

Better then survivor maybe, not as good as Jumpin' Jumpin'.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 11 September 2004 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

you know how sometimes radio ads try to sound like the music that would get played on that station, but they don't quite get it right and you can tell right away before you hear any product name that it's an ad? I totally thought this song was, like, a Fanta ad or something when I tuned into the station the first time I heard it. and then it just kept going on too long to be an a commercial and I started to recognize Beyonce's voice.

I want to somehow blame this song on whoever started that moronic ILM thread about how Crazy In Love had "parade beats".

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 11 September 2004 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

this is alright, will sound great in a club. It's not so much unmelodic as lacking in melodic range (as in fact was "Crazy In Love" but nobody seemed to notice then). Take away the rhythm track and you've got nothing, tho'.

"baby boy" is officially an overused meme now too.

zebedee (zebedee), Saturday, 11 September 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not so much unmelodic as lacking in melodic range (as in fact was "Crazy In Love" but nobody seemed to notice then).

OTM OTM OTM, only it's really every song Beyonce sings.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Saturday, 11 September 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, the OBVIOUS song to compare it to is "I'm A Slave 4 You". ILM, you disappoint me.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Saturday, 11 September 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

this should have come out in the summer or better yet two summers ago

jones (actual), Saturday, 11 September 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

It needs some fuck-up rhythmic stuff on the dull bridge but otherwise sounded great.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i like this but it sounds a bit dated, with those synth stabs.

splooge (thesplooge), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I like music but it sounds a bit dated, with those instruments. (sorry)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, i am already singing it to myself.

splooge (thesplooge), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The bass drum is unstoppable.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Good running song. At mile two I was doing the "ah huh ah huh" chant at the chorus with MEANING.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

this reminds me "milkshake" with the addition of some snare rolls slash maximal instead of minimal drum programming. i think i would like it more if the dancehall influence was more prevalent. the quality of this mp3 is horrendous though. love the break.

tricky disco (disco stu), Saturday, 11 September 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see the "Milkshake" comparison at all. Can someone ecplain it to me?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 12 September 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I am loving, loving, loving those gasps of breath which are the catchiest bit of a song which has already embedded itself in my head forever.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that's definitely up there. My brief appreciation.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm counting on a Joey Beltram remix to go with this.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This came on the radio just as I was turning on my block, and I kept driving past my house in order to listen to it.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You should get a car radio.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 12 September 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

?

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

this isn't good. its too anthemic. those stabs and the *huge* stadium sound make it seem a little overblown.

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Sunday, 12 September 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

its *very* milkshake. also very ace.
the first destinys single since 'say my name' that doesn't
*plod* at some point. its hell 4 leather start 2 finish
til it's over and that's a good thing obviously.

is her wee sis in here somewhere or did they scotch that idea in the end?

piscesboy, Sunday, 12 September 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

this isn't good. it's too hot. those stabs and the *huge* stadium sound make it seem a little overdanceable.

(sorry)

I don't hear the Milkshake either, btw.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 13 September 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It's black women singing over a sparse beat ergo IT'S JUST LIKE "Milkshake"!

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 September 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's like milkshake insofar as it's like "work it": it smells of four months of nonstop airplay.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 13 September 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I like all of Beyonce's solo singles better than this. Sorry, dudes.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 13 September 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i love beyonce knowles in the face...

darraghmac, Monday, 13 September 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

:) I rikey!

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Monday, 13 September 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Milkshake is all about the bass, Lose My Breath is all about the treble.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 September 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

dan, no one is claiming that it's just like "milkshake". the similarities to are the way the beats are swung and the use of minimal hardcore-style synth sounds for overdramatic (stadium!) melodic effect. ergo i think JoB is otm with his joey beltram comment.

tricky disco (disco stu), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

But the beats are dissimilar (strict martial marching band drum cadence vs hippyesque bongos) and the instrument that plays the part of the synth stabs in "Milkshake" is an acoustic guitar.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"lose my breath" could never have preceded "milkshake" with regards to time or aesthetics.

tricky disco (disco stu), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"Lose My Breath" owes more to "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)" and "Girls Talk" than it does to "Milkshake".

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I strongly disagree. Actual marching bands have been playing similar beats for years, and so have the Neptunes for that matter (i.e. Give it 2 Me). And the synths have more in common with Dre than the Neps.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(x-post)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

dan, i don't know those songs (jc chasez and tlc?).

jordan, if this helps, it's not the marching band sound i'm referring to (and love btw), it's the drum programming and production (which is where dan also disagrees with me, but i digress).

tricky disco (disco stu), Monday, 13 September 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes on both counts; the sonics are a stripped down version of the JC song while the lyrics are almost a straight rework of the TLC song.

Which came out first, "Milkshake" or "Pass The Dutch"?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 September 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"Milkshake", by about two months.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 13 September 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The live drumming and the programming make a seemless beat, I can't really think of one without the other. The claps and bass drum are programmed, the snares, marching toms, and cymbals aren't, to my ears.

Anyway, it seems much more syncopated than I remember Milkshake being.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 13 September 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
Jay-Z ("Sean Carter") actually has a co-write on this.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only just heard this over the past couple days...every time it comes on I like it a lot more. I love the chord change on the 7, 8 and the rhythm (obviously the rhythm!). I love when Rodney Jerkins is doing things with, um, I guess just about everyone except Michael Jackson.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It'd be great if this was actually a song rather than just some wicked drums and Beyonce having an orgasm.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah and the comparisons to "Milkshake" seem weird as "Milkshake" is so sparse, just this little floofy beat and a saw toothy bass line and that PING, where this has like a billion layers of percussion shit.

xpost but omg there are parts to sing along to!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

If the sign of great pop is that, on one listen, you feel you've always known this song, then this is up there...

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
this is really great. the video is strange though. what is going on? a dance-off?

ryan (ryan), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

When I first heard this via the link here, I was disappointed my its one dimensionality. I'm so glad that they've proved me wrong. Over the last few weeks it's totally got under my skin. Beaten to the UK No.1 spot by Eminem today.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It does get into you before you know it, but it took me about 2 listens. 'Like I Love You' and 'The Jump Off' are my reference points. The ad libs in the middle also remind me of Sweet Female Attitude's 'Flowers'.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 8 November 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

the video is strange though. what is going on? a dance-off?

Yeah. DC vs DC vs DC. It's a visual reference to their "You can't handle me" shtick and also a claim that Destiny's Child's only real competition...are themselves.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is still fucking awesome. I like the way Beyoncé's mellowed enough to let Kelly have a whole verse to herself.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

'Get On The Bus' to thread. I prefer Kelly's voice anyway.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The lp is v disappointing :(

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no! why?

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The single is v. uncharacteristic (it sounds like the label heard the lp and demanded they put something up tempo on it). It's almost entirely superglutinous ballads.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

those BLOODY ballads - could've guessed they'd be out in force.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 8 November 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

That's that destiny fulfilled, then.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 8 November 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that impressed by it. Which I'm terribly disappointed by.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the way Beyoncé's mellowed enough to let Kelly have a whole verse to herself.

Kelly sings the prechorus on "Bills Bills Bills", "So Good", "Nasty Girl" and "Independent Women Part I", plus she sings a verse on "Survivor", "Bootylicious", "Emotions" and she's the lead on "Apple Pie a la Mode".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 November 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The single is v. uncharacteristic (it sounds like the label heard the lp and demanded they put something up tempo on it). It's almost entirely superglutinous ballads.

*grousegripe* So we're talking the Beyonce solo album part two, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 8 November 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The album is seriously boring.

I'm even starting to like Lose My Breath now, compared to the rest.

Tranströmmer, Monday, 8 November 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the video itself is also a Drumline reference. This song is so great. I like how it's *ON* the whole time. There is no break, no melody, nowhere to even breathe.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Lose My Breath is high up on single of the year consideration for my money.
I'm sorry to hear about the album.
Any links to the video?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It's on http://www.mtv.com.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The dude in black who pushes into the circle during the instrumental break is the campest dancer since the dude in the bad shirt who keeps touching himself in 'Like I Love You'.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm counting on a Joey Beltram remix to go with this.

Alas...

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the album. yeah, too many ballads -- same with dangerously in love -- but at least a few of them have too-fast rhythms.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

so what's the ballads/bangers ratio? If it's like Dangerously In Love that'd be disappointing, but the album would probably be worth having. Any less... ugh.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems kinda ironic that Beyonce/DC are so enamoured with ballads when they're so mediocre at them. I mean, Christina Milian's album could be 100% ballads and it would probably still be great, but there's only a handful.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all about sole, yeah.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

yes they are mediocre at ballads, but "dangerously in love" is ace.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Mya's great at ballads, too. Ditto Xtina. Whereas I can't think of a single post-TWOTW DC/Beyoncé ballad that I can even remember clearly.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The dude in black who pushes into the circle during the instrumental break is the campest dancer since the dude in the bad shirt who keeps touching himself in 'Like I Love You'.

Are you talking about Justin or Pharrell?

Whereas I can't think of a single post-TWOTW DC/Beyoncé ballad that I can even remember clearly.

"Dangerously In Love"!!!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Dilemma!

x-post

pete b. (pete b.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dilemma" isn't a Beyonce ballad!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

DC tho, kinda, no? ok maybe that's a stretch

pete b. (pete b.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I did actually been to type "Dangerously In Love"! "Dilemma" is great but it's rather more about Nelly...

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

They should just do a song called "Dangerously Crazy" (and have Dan star in it).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, c'mon, Ned, he'd be more of a diva in front of the camera than behind it!

Actually, that would make him a perfect 4th member for DC.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you talking about Justin or Pharrell?

Haha, saw that coming. But I was talking about the white dude with the orange shirt during the closing scenes. I liked Justin's shirt and Pharrell is too dorky to be camp.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The drawback to me being the fourth member of Destiny's Child = low-angle shots of me in a miniskirt. No matter how lovely, no one really wants to see the bozack.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, c'mon, Ned, he'd be more of a diva in front of the camera than behind it!

Did you even read what I posted? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

dude they can airbrush out the scrot, just like they do beyonce's 'stash!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you even read what I posted? ;-)

Hence my "diva behind the camera" comment (ditto smiley).

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

*bows* But I fail to see how Dan being a diva is a BAD thing (aside from his manmeat-fear comment noted above).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It would ultimately prove his undoing when Beyonce and Matthew resort to firing him. Either that, or he'd sing hooks for, and be the rumoured main squeeze of, Chingy.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

EW, Chingy?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

2) ALL THREE OF YOU PLZ COME HOLLA AT ME OK THX (my wife will understand)

I like this song. They're gonna put someone's eye out with those hips.

I hate Destiny's Child; I love this song. Maybe fun is the wrong word, but it's propulsive and exciting.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Saturday, 13 November 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

just heard "soldier" on the radio.
sounds like a crunk influence on the vocal line, though not the voices.
anyone else hear this?

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Sunday, 14 November 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i really appreciate the sentiment in the song, also how it could be about dancing or sex.

"didn't your mama teach you to give affection" is a great line.

Jesus, Deborah Norville is interviewing them right now on MSNBC. There's a real meeting of the fuckin' minds. Humility not really their strong suit, apparently.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 27 November 2004 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
"Soldier" !!

It's on like every half an hour on the hip hop station in Knoxville. I absolutely cannot help singing along with the chorus every time it comes on which I realize makes me look more than faintly ridiculous. I totally didn't even realize it was Destiny's Child, I was like "who the hell are these hot singers that Cash Money has hooked up with??" The lushness of the harmonies works so well with the casio beats, it's awesome.

Thank you, Tracer!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 31 December 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It definitely gives the lie to the claim that "Lose My Breath" was the only good new song of theirs.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 31 December 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracer is OTM about the sing-a-longability, I was listening to this when I was grocery shopping and I had to try really hard not to sing out loud.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Friday, 31 December 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I really feel like some mid-1980s white man railing against ebonics, but do the lyrics of "Soldier" really grate on anyone else? I could have sworn that Destiny's Child members were carefully screened and home-schooled by Beyonce's parents, but the grammar on this song kills me! Would it kill them to say "he's" instead of "he?" It sounds forced, to me.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 3 January 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I really feel like some mid-1980s white man railing against ebonics, but do the lyrics of "Soldier" really grate on anyone else?

This is because your status ain't hood.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I really feel like some mid-1980s white man railing against ebonics, but do the lyrics of "Soldier" really grate on anyone else?

Guilty as charged.

"I love how he's keep my body screamin'"

WHITE GRAMMAR, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! GIVE IT A BIG HAND!

The Deeply Sarcastic Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking more of the "he talkin right" and "he the type" lines instead of a song-wide search and replace, but sure. The song would lose the tone if it was all gramatically correct, but the message I'm getting here is that Destiny's Child can do a song about street credibility by tossing out some token references to 'lacs and changing up their diction. I guess it's a theme song more than anything.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess it's a theme song more than anything.

DING DING DING DING

Also, DC can sell any theme because they always put on the nicest hotpants in their videos. (Actually I have no idea if I'm kidding with that or not.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

So, in other words, they're being utter, disengenuous posers, but it's okay because they look good in hotpants in the video?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Side note: the "psoer" thing is a gigantic feeble-minded red herring.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

They can read minds too?

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

And astrally project!

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 3 January 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Who cares if the harmonies are ultra-tight and they can sing their asses off? THEY AREN'T REALLY HOODRATS STONE THEM STONE THEM ALL (because you see songs aren't ever about roleplaying or telling a story, they are all literal renditions of truthful events; when the Beatles sang "I am the walrus" you could see the flippers manifesting themselves on wax).

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

My thoughts on the matter:

1. They don't usually speak in that way, it's a thematic thing for the song.
2. Theme be damned, this sounds really stilted. All the "he be" lines I bitched about are from Michelle. Didn't she put out a gospel album? Listening again, this is making me feel really uncomfortable.
3. There are two different versions of the song. The real one with T.I. and Lil Wayne makes me feel a little better. The pop radio one with their verses excised completely loses the plot.
4. I'll continue to listen to the song, and make a funny face during the parts that make me feel queasy.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 3 January 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The pop radio one with their verses excised completely loses the plot.

I couldn't agree with this more.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, Michelle's verse totally owns on this song. She's the one who sounds most grubby.

I really don't think they're pretending to be hoodrats at all, they're rich girls slumming it.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 3 January 2005 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

NO NO NO THEY ARE TRYING TO BE HOODRATS BECAUSE I SAID SO!

The Overly-Irritable Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

What's going on now?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 3 January 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

1. People said they didn't like "Soldier" using a reason I thought was lame.
2. I got unreasonably testy.
3. HILARITY ENSUES!
4. I end up on ignore lists even though ILM doesn't have that feature.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(see also the "Groove Is In The Heart" thread; today is "Dan is all patriarchal and disapproving towards ILM posters" day (aka "Monday"))

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I am and know many black people who find the lyrics to "Soldier" to be disturbing. My mom hates it with a passion, it's not allowed to be played in our house or her car. I agree with the comment made above, they *do* come off as rich girls slumming it up. The video is gross too, the whole idea of the song is just wrong.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Kevin, I don't mean to dismiss or diminish anything you've written but I have to admit that the juxtaposition of your post with your email address his giving me a gigantic giggle fit.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Just because I thought the lyrics were obnoxious doesn't mean I dislike the song. Anyway, they are obviously trying to be COUNTRY GIRLS and not HOOD RATS. It's like you didn't even listen to the song, Dan.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha awesome!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(We do know what hood rat means, yes? Also we see the gigantic strawman I've been kicking throughout this entire thread to the amusement of apparently me and no one else?)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

We do know what hood rat means, yes?

Yeah, I was going to say something about how they might be aspiring to be shawtys, but I'm getting really mixed messages about the country slang getting up in their east coast thing.

mike h. (mike h.), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It still gives me the shivers it's weird. There's something sad about it. Like what do they think's going to happen once they get their scarred-up soldier? God this guy could be everything, keep me safe, up my status, change my life.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 January 2005 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree that it's stupid for Beyonce to front like she wants a soldier when her boyfriend is doing guest spots with Linkin' Fuckin' Park, but IT'S A SONG. It's a fantasy. I just can't rail against music for its content and intention unless it calls for the death of a race... and if it's got a good beat? Weeeeelll....

In any case, this flared and burned on me after fifteen or so listens. It's no "Lose My Breath". Furthermore, I think Michelle's verse is BY FAR the weakest and without Lil' Wayne's "salu'!" this loses my interest.

She inhales and looks out the window at the rooftops of the BK and her glance falls onto "The Ragged Way People Fall Out of Love" by Susan Sontag. Her head whips around in horrified disbelief, she leaps out of bed, stubbing the cigarette out and starts to put on her clothes, muttering to herself. "Motherfucker said he was street!!" She goes and calls Da Brat to talk about it.

xpost Michelle's verse is phenomenal!! She's got this intuition for exactly how much she's got him in the palm of her hand, and how much more she has to get.. the soldier doesn't quite know how the night's going to turn out but she does.

That might be the subtext; but man, the sound just doesn't do it for me.

This song just gets better every time I hear it. actually what cracks me up is the end of Kelly's verse.. 'with street cred-i-bil-i-ty..'

I love how Beyonce doesn't get the great lines of the songs anymore. Actually, the last great line I remember Beyonce getting was "So what?/You bought a pair of shoes?" from "Bugaboo".

one month passes...
It's on like every half an hour on the hip hop station in Knoxville.

And it still is!

Best bits of this song:
final chorus when the "better be street if you're looking at me" is suddenly lushhhhhhly harmonised
michelle talking about chiefing weed omg
self-pluralization ("so quick to snatch up your Beyonces")
the synthy WHOMP sound juxtaposed with the jittery casio beat
sa-LOOOT!
