the game & 50 cent - "hate it or love it"

CONS
1. predictably 'soft' 2nd/3rd single
2. samples the already way overbitten "lovely day"
3. LAME lyric about being "rap's mvp"
4. game & 50 video confluence (they're cruising together!) a little too well-timed with their latest public honeymooning

PROS
1. it is fucking AWESOME and i can't stop listening to it

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

it is super.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is great, yes.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Love it.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes i wish 50 would ditch the ominous, eleventh hour minimalism and bite more soul tracks - "wanna get to know you" was one of my favs on the g-unit album too.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

hey slocki! have you smoked?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

it's good . shame about the rest of the record.

VIC MACKEY (nordicskilla), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

no! the only thing that's smoking in my house right now is this WICKED TRACK!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

do you mean the game record or the 50 record? it's on both! the bet video credits take up the whole screen!

(xpost wonh wonh wonh)

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Link or location for this?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ps. 50 makes this track, as usual. the more i see him and hear him, the more i'm convinced that the game is the mvp of the GOT NO CHARISMA league.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

50 makes this track, as usual.

Er, WHAT??????????????????

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

he totally does.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant "The Documentary".

VIC MACKEY (nordicskilla), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

the first verse totally rules this track!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ned: poke your head out the window, wait 5 mins max.

(xpost dan: i said 50 makes this track.)

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ned you can download it here.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Every time I listen to it, I wonder why Game's on it at all and why someone decided the track needed to extend beyond 50's first verse.

I HATE the way Game clips the "get to know me" line at the end of the hook.

But, yeah, I've willingly listened to and enjoyed this track more than any of the recent barrage of 50 and Game singles.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Everytime I go to the car wash there are guys vacuuming out the inside of a tricked-out caddy or lincoln blasting this record. It's a California feelgood factor!

VIC MACKEY (nordicskilla), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a California feelgood factor!

Yeah, definitely has that feeling, doesn't it? Good early spring record. (Thanks to Y for the link!) 50 most assuredly does not make this song, sorry Mark P.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

please please PLEASE tell me you think the game's verses are better.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm talking about voice quality! This is me you're talking to FFS!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"voice quality"?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a Match Game challenge:

50 makes this song ________________.

Fannie Flagg: "better!"

Jo Anne Worley: "worse!"

Charles Nelson-Reilly: "longer."

Richard Dawson: "chart higher than it should."

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, wait, you bring up that comparison and no Nipsey Russell?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't really know what's going on anymore. seriously ned, what does 'voice quality' mean?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Means I like the sound of the Game's voice more than 50's. Sorry, did I break a rule or something?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, stop. i just didn't know what that meant.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The only emcee I can think of in recent times who has been able to pull of a monotone flow is Fabolous and he doesn't succeed every time.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I like this better than any other song I've heard from either of them.

I got the job because I was so mean, while somehow appearing so kind. (AaronHz), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes i wish 50 would ditch the ominous, eleventh hour minimalism and bite more soul tracks - "wanna get to know you" was one of my favs on the g-unit album too.

seriously.

This is great. The first indication that The Game might not be a totally mediocre rapper, but 50 still blows him away.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

aaron, bill otm

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

the g unit remix on 50's record is terrible

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

this is easily the best thing on either the documentary or the massacre. and i concur, fiddy TOTALLY blows away the game.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

great song. my #2 single of the year so far. not sure yet if Cool & Dre deserve to be the next big producers but this song makes a good case for it. especially that bassline. and the video is maybe the only rap video by Saline Project that really works (god that new Young Buck video is crap, though).

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I like this better than any other song I've heard from either of them.

I'd agree with that, it's very winning.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Game's smile in the video is perhaps even more awkward than his Popeye face in the "How We Do" video.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"i wanna get to know you" is sooo good!

this is great too; it got played on B96 here more than a month ago, a "leak of the week" thing.

f--gg (gcannon), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah this song is great of course, whoever said it is right 50's first verse steals the show.

deej., Monday, 21 March 2005 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

actually right now my favorite is the last verse where 50 does a few bars and then the rest is Game

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a really great song. Cool & Dre are hot right now. I have to agree with Ned on Game's voice being better here. Lyrics are another story of course but Game's "I'm rap's MVP" part is smooth. Seeing the video with the song makes it kind of sad after the whole shooting incident.

I'd like to see "Start From Scratch" released as a single but I don't think it'll happen.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a good time for me to ask this question...whats with the line:

"No school books they use that wood to build coffins"

School books made of wood...?

deej., Monday, 21 March 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Awkward smile in the video? Yes. But Game's holding his kid and I am wiping tears from my eyes.

(Of course, I am assuming it's his kid.)

ozewayo (ozewayo), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it's his kid. i like that part and the part with his mom. i was referring more to how he smiles in the "get to know me" parts.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

50 wins on the original single, but I think The Game wins on the remix (just for that "who gave the West Coast mouth-to-mouth" line, even if it is BS).

deej: wood used to make coffins instead of paper for books...?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i agree. the line about the mom is great. every son should do the same.

Ozewayo (ozewayo), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahh that makes sense. Me smart. xp

deej., Monday, 21 March 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

deej paper is made of wood (xp)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

deej: it's probably a paper/wood/trees thing

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

!!

why didn't i get those xposts? weird.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

what is the bit about 50's mamma kissing a girl a ref to? prostitution? drugs?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's because paper is made of wood, deej.

The Ghost of Mr. Helpful (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

the l word? (xp)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

what is the bit about 50's mamma kissing a girl a ref to? prostitution? drugs?

his mom was bi-sexual.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Lesbians are made of wood, mark.

The Ghost of Mr. Helpful (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

And made of wood.

XPOST YOU MISERABLE GHOST YOU.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Paper's made of wood, deej.

deej., Monday, 21 March 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

at last something we can all agree on

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

not if it's recycled paper.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, does the process of recycling magically make the original paper not come from wood?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

also, in "candy shop", when 50 cent says "ill let you lick the lollipop", what does he mean exactly?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha!

The Ghost of Wood (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

his lollipop is made of wood

Al (sitcom), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the inferno in "Disco Inferno" actually Dante's Inferno? Is it stoked by wood fires?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

reason #64683847 why it's impossible to be scared of 50 cent: HE THOUGHT TO CALL HIS PENIS A LOLLIPOP

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

With chocolate on the inside?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It would've been better if he called "it" a snackerdoodle.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

lick fiddy's penis, get a tongue fulla splinters?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Carnie attractions for the 21st century.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hate It Or Love It" is my favorite song of this year by far. I can't imagine anything overtaking it either. My friend and I have discussed how the song's opening is absolutely perfect, with the opening sample and horns, then 50's first couple of lines, then the bassline. It's flawless, and I've probably listened to this song at least three or four times a day since I first heard it about a month ago.

Roadkill Bingo (Roadkill Bingo), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

let's talk some more about this great song!

seriously, it works b/c it just flows so effortlessly. fifty's style is just perfect for it -- i agree totally w/ whomever upthread said that he should do more soul-type songs.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

most effortless flow since the ignition remix! PLUS introspection MINUS the cheesy innuendo that thankfully 50 has banished to "candy shop" EQUALS the most unparalleled musical moment of 2005

ozewayo (ozewayo), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

whomever upthread

is this the logical endpoint of pretend forgetfulness? SCROLL UP PEOPLE.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's funny that you compare 50's flow to R. Kelly's, because I think "Ignition (Remix)" was the last time I was so helplessly addicted to a song.

Overall though, the whole beef between 50 and Game left me surprisingly conflicted, given that 50 clearly stole the show as everyone said above. But given that I'd fallen in love with the song on Game's album -- before the whole thing happened -- I'd formed some affection for Game. What I really hope is that it was all just a marketing stunt for the release of The Massacre, and their little patch-up job wasn't as artificial as it seemed.

Roadkill Bingo (Roadkill Bingo), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I like "How We Do" about as much as "Hate it Or Love It." On first listen "Hate it Or Love It" was more moving to me, but "How We Do"'s nursery rhyme melody gives it a long-term quality.

deej., Tuesday, 22 March 2005 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i like lotsa 50's stuff as much as or more than "hate it or love it", the game not so much.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The only 50 song I like better than "Hate It or Love It" is the Tweet remix where he lists all the women in Hollywood he wants to fuck. (the version with Tweet and Missy is better than the mixtape version that's all 50)

"How We Do" starts off weak with the Game verse, but then you get 50's incredible pronunciation of Escalade (I've been trying to work Es-co-lade into everyday conversation, but Caddy SUVs just don't come up very often) and then class-conscious 50:

Cuz I'm so hood
Rich folks do not want me around
Cuz shit might pop off, and if shit pop off
Somebody gon' get laid the fuck out
They call me new money, say I have no class
I'm from the bottom, I came up too fast
The hell if I care, I'm just here to get my cash
Bougie ass bitches, you can kiss my ass

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Fiddy is muvva-luvvin' plastic no-flow bullshit with dead eyes and one riddim. And half of his oover is genius. And "Hate It" is the geniusest track yet. It's like the Taj Mahal made out of chewed Lego.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

songs that come up on iTunes when I limit it to 'how we do'

"How to Rob" - 50 Cent
"How We Do" - Game/50 Cent
"This Is How We Do It" - Montell Jordan
"You Don't Know How It Feels" - Tom Petty

perfect

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

is this the logical endpoint of pretend forgetfulness? SCROLL UP PEOPLE.

not to derail this ... but WTF?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

the original thread premise:

4. game & 50 video confluence (they're cruising together!) a little too well-timed with their latest public honeymooning

The video premiered right when the split actually ocurred...I didn't really get the feeling that this was an intended coincidence, but maybe i'm not being cynical enough.

deej., Tuesday, 22 March 2005 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i was just kidding tad!

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Why are people fascinated with the way that 50 Cent speaks?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

cause he's a rapper?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

So is k-os, yet I don't see anyone on ILM falling all over themselves because of the way he say "b-BOWEEEEE".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Or, better example, Chingy or J-Kwon on anything.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I was obsessed with the way J-Kwon says "homebwoooy" for a while last summer.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

1) k-os is hardly distinctive, 50 is
2) lotsa people ARE into the way chingy raps
3) j-kwon didn't really do much that chingy/nelly didn't already do 6-18 months prior

(xpost)

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

(Nelly had a 3 year jump on Chingy and 4 on J-Kwon but he didn't do "Hood Hop" therefore J-Kwon wins)

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen people on ILM talking about the way Chingy spells, anyway...

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, nelly as heretofore-unacknowledged pioneer?!? whudda thunk it.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, unacknowledged? I thought the first thing everyone said when Chingy came out was "Oh look, it's Nelly Mk II."

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

December '04 - Indifference.
January '05 - It's okay.
February '05 - Whoa, this song is awesome.
March' 05 - I'm really sick of this song.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

this is probably my favorite hiphop single this year, everybody otm as usual (even the people who contradict each other).

pytlik, can't see how you can hate on game so much when 50's as hit-or-miss and 95% completely vapid (and the hooks argument is so fucking lame, not that you're making it). i wrote about this somewhere, but at least the game acknowledge's how blueprint-thug he is; guessing from his own game slams 50 still thinks he's fucking rap virgil, when he's closer to wwf virgil.

which is why (and sorry to air this, but esp after tate's piece in vv i've had to figure out why i like the game record so much beyond "good beats" and this very song). game's way honest about how he's not a rapper at all-- he jumped on dre's back and he's like, totally proud of it! guy's taking advantage of the fact that you can be a nobody on the mic so long as you got the right beats behind you. he's so brilliantly the product of Rap and not any particular locale (all the quotes, check the chorus' title track-- it's a pastiche of the titles of every seminal thug rags-to-riches rap record), he's made something out of nothing, a fucking magician, and the documentary's him laughing at the fact that an album like the documentary could even exist, let alone sell so well.

kids can fall in love with their own ideas i know...

Nick Sylvester, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

some things 50 cent has that the game doesn't, a list:

1. jokes
2. charisma (horrible x-factor i know, but fifty's got better presence, he cuts through)
3. personality (part of me wishes 50 would be a little MORE emo sometimes, but still, he's mostly all there; all i know about the game is that he desp. wants people to know who he knows)

fwiw, i LIKE the documentary, just not crazy abt the game as a rapper/personality. and nick, i don't disagree with your argument about how the documentary is sort of a puff piece for a rapper that hardly exists, but i hardly think that makes him a magician, let alone interesting..

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

So "charisma" has officially become code for "gigantic pecs", then?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i agree, 50's definitely more "awww, 50" than game's "oh that game, there he goes again!". if anything i'm just defensive of game when people are like "he's so boring!/shitty rapper!" without realizing that's EXACTLY his appeal

Nick Sylvester, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

why did i put off hearing this for so long? i thought that somehow it could only disappoint. it doesn't. not at all. "church for thugs" might actually be hotter, but this is the most likeable thing i've heard in months. i like the line about the stolen bike.

jermaine (jnoble), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

and the line about "barkleys." you'd thing that since sir charles couldn't get that high off the floor, he couldn't sell shoes, but the man has 50-esque charisma. or vice versa.

ozewayo (ozewayo), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

if anything i'm just defensive of game when people are like "he's so boring!/shitty rapper!" without realizing that's EXACTLY his appeal

Hahahahahaha!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

does that mean that game is gonna inspire emo-rap? or end up at harvard?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how bloggers like rappers who would probably have blogs

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh that's beautiful, Mark P.

The Game can't WAIT to list his 50 favorite rap albums of all time

(x-post)

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

needless to say, nick's description of the documentary is more interesting that the documentary itself.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

game=rap's weezer!

haha let's just make this easy and consolidate the two threads where i'm taking heat today

Nick Sylvester, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

that'd be easier if you'd tell us the type of Game fan you can't stand (extra points if he's black!)

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh That Miccio shuck shuck (a new kind of OTM aka micciocarthyism)

as for game fans, yknow me, i can't stand the gay female black jocks (who are now crippled from AIDS...which they deserved)

Nick Sylvester, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh That Miccio

All is forgiven

i only heard 'hum drum' and 'we ridin' and first impression: 'hum drum' which samples 10cc apparently is pretty great or decent at least, 'we ridin' is same spanish guitar hiphop beat everyones heard before
if youve any of the others please ysi/gmail, do cool &dre deserve their own thread?

I agree about it being the single of the year thus far. The 50 verse is the best he's spit since the days of "ghetto quaran". Or at least "many men". Classic shit.

I don't mind some Game though. The crack-era is pretty much done (unless you're from the South) these days unless a rapper is of a certain age and experienced the 80s then they really have no right to be rhyming about selling it. Anyway, so drug-selling is played, talkin' about wack m.c's/haters is played, more or less everything else is played so what else are you gonna talk about but the history of rap itself? That's why i like Game. He's record collection rap. Sure, he's a phoney, a studio gangsta, runs his mouth then pussies out and apologizes and generally comes across as a bi-polar wackjob but it doesn't matter one bit when he has songs like "dreams", "runnin'", "westside story", "church for thugs", "where i'm from", "no more fun and games" and "hate it or love it".

Cool & Dre have a bunch of tracks on the new Fat Joe but aside from "So Much More" none of them are anything special.

Cool & Dre have a great song on the new Slim Thug album, "Miss Mary." I like how they do a refined, slicker, smoother take on soul sampling than kanye.

three years pass...

both game and fiddy rap better on "How We Do" and the beat is way more bangin and it has a less awkward hook and is all around a better song. this is only good for the first 40 seconds

"hate it or love it" is better than "how we do" but "how we do"'s classic status is mad underrated imo

and that quoted verse is dope

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 04:51 (sixteen years ago)

all the hype about this song centered on that first 50 verse which is great but ignored the fact that the rest just kind of exists or even worse tried to put up some halfass defense of the rest of the song

you are really wrong

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 04:58 (sixteen years ago)

maybe i mean to say "you really are wrong"

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:00 (sixteen years ago)

if all the vocals got taken out of the rest of the track and they just let the beat ride out after 50's verse it would be a better song imo

louis & cank: the new adventures of suggestban (The Reverend), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

get the hell out

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:06 (sixteen years ago)

i mean game's biggest strength and weakness as a rapper is his willingness to be transparent about his feelings - sometimes it's good candidness and sometimes it's bad emoness - and tbh i find his verses on this to be pretty affecting

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:14 (sixteen years ago)

he tells his mom that he loves her!

seriously about the second anyone invokes "What's Going On" is the time I go "ok, fuck this"

louis & cank: the new adventures of suggestban (The Reverend), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:21 (sixteen years ago)

man too bad Game wasn't around yet in 2001 or maybe we coulda got a Jayson verse on that allstar tribute with Bono

louis & cank: the new adventures of suggestban (The Reverend), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:24 (sixteen years ago)

if you're gonna take that position you better be willing to vilify like every rapper who says "even stevie can see me"

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:25 (sixteen years ago)

the marvin line is whatever whatever but the "no schoolbooks they use that wood to build coffins" line after is pretty dope imo!

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:25 (sixteen years ago)

I am!

xp I thought that line was sooo fukkin deep when I was 19.

louis & cank: the new adventures of suggestban (The Reverend), Monday, 13 July 2009 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

or to be less facetious, I should say I'm willing to villify those type of lines, I'm not necessarily judging any rapper by one use of a cliche (although they certainly add up)
