It's not often I give a track a thread entirely of its own, but I have to give this its own thread, I can't stop listening to it.

What an amazing record! This record is like the best indie feelings combined with the best electrohouse ones.

I think The Knife's lead singer (her name is Karin I believe?) has a very adaptable voice for dance music. The Mandy remix of Pass it On and the Rex the Dog remix of Heartbeats also kill. Perhaps she should live in Germany a month a year to be a session vocalist.

I actually was going to say the general health of electro poppy stuff has been really good for more club orientated stuff, there are so many releases that come out where you know the pop act can supply enough character for a really good producer to make something really crazy and clubby but also quite affecting.

I think, for me, this one actually has everything the original had and more, like even the quiet bit is more deftly produced, something about the way the strings well up in the breakdown is so much more affecting, and I did like the original alot but it was a bit of a used style I thought, the Trentemoller one has this really weird dramatic, almost cinematic feel to the breakdown, which I didn't get in the original so much, good and all as it was.

(then it has a ridiculously ott pay off!)

I love this mix too - snagged some of the other Trentemoller mixes from the YSI thread and they've been kicking my ass lately. Who is this dude? Rob, don't know much about him except that he used to make plush deep house for Naked Music et. al. and now makes weird trippy electro (ketamine) house.

He has released some pretty high-profile singles over the last 12 months - "Beta Boy", "Physical Fraction", "Polar Shift", "Sunstroke", a few others - each one usually weirder and more psychedelic but less anthemic than the last. The remixes are a bit more peak time.

he played in glasgow recently and all reports were that he was fab. apparently he scratches a lot. i really like a lot of his stuff but find i have to edit out a few bits before i can play them. well, on the unai and royksopp anyway. the fred everything is great too but my fave is the sharon phillips. rock the bells!

I like the breakdowns! I tend to think of Trentemoller mixes as those tunes where Erol Alkan would fellate himself while standing on the mixer with his vodka aloft. No offence to him, that is an essential part of his show.

hee - all the vocals which is kind of odd as i usually play lots of songs, but her out of the knife does my nut in. with the unai, i just use the last third of it. i might like the sharon phillips so much because i love 'rock the bells' / the 'mardi gras break' and also because it samples an old and much loved danish rave classic called 'kaos' by dr. baker.

I mean: the voice, the type of song (sort of pre-goth), the bass guitar ... sounds too familiar to me, like a Siouxie out-take, all wrapped in a electro production circa 1984.
What's good about electronic/techno/dance music is INNOVATION, and this sounds old to me. Too formulaic, too retro.

It is reminiscent of Siouxsie, but sonically it sounds very 2005. What do you think would be more innovative, ifeelspace? I mean, leaving aside the more complex arrangements that Trentemoller does on some of his own recent stuff...and I think Ronan is right that this more straightahead stuff (i.e. the non-electrohorsetranqmoller stuff) is easily equal of his more out-there moments.

But then I tend to like any house music which sounds like Siouxsie/Depeche Mode ("micro-goth" etc.). Did anyone else ever check out that Vredus remix of Blumfeld's "Neuer Morgen" that I used to big up round these parts? Still great.

I think the appeal of the production on the Trentemoller is that is very 2005. It doesn't sound retro to me. Somehow he always manages to sound like he's squeezing even *more* than the last guy out of his gear.

Yeah but I think this remix is really not so removed in style from his other productions, be they his own tracks or remixes. Isn't it the goth/Bjorkish/pop trappings of the thing that's turning you off, not the production itself? I can't see how it differs to much from Polar Shift sonically.

But yeah, this probably belongs on the charts not the dancefloor, unless you are crafty like stirmonster and edit out the poppy bits of course.

I myself am not much a fan of this genre.

TWD Mix = Thin White Duke. Not sure where from as I downloaded it but from Ronan's comments it appears to be on same vinyl release as the Trentemoller mix.

Lex the JLC remix is a bit like his production work for Madonna, it's been designed for radio, kinda moody and trancey if I recall.

The Thin White Duke mix meanwhile is halcyonic psychedelic filter-disco, like Linus Loves' "The Terrace" or Space Cowboy's "I Would Die 4 U", but with a strong dose of The Chemical Brothers circa their third or fourth album e.g. the second half of "The State We're In".
