cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

moody xmas eve dark+rainy night listening = the entirety of disco inferno's the 5 eps, d.i. go pop & technicolour.

lazy xmas morning listening = a.r.e. weapons' "don't be scared" & "hey world", paris angels' "perfume (all on you)", stone roses' "i am the resurrection" (which suxxored), then the happy mondays' "kinky afro" (the oakenfold mix on loads) & "w.f.l. (vince clarke remix)".

now @ cybergates, listening to the entirety of avey tare & panda bear's spirit they've gone, spirit they've vanished, which is probably too cuspidorian for me.

etc, Wednesday, 24 December 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 25 December 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

who is eva cassidy? my mum got another of her cds for xmas, it looked dodge so I quickly put on some anthoilogy of american music cds & skip spence. Actually first thing today my mum put Carmina Burana on - I really like it but it just seemed really inappropriate so I took it off.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 25 December 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Eva Cassidy was an American singer who died of leukaemia some years ago. For whatever reason, since her death she has sold squillions of albums - I'm not even sure she released more than one or two in her own lifetime, but there was enough material in the can for an afterlife growth industry, if you will.

Sonic Youth "SYR 2", ahoy there it's a good one tho SY are not noted producers of BAD records I guess

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Man if SYR's 1 and 2 are an indication of what SY come up w/whilst "practising" etc they need to put out way way more of these things

Dwight Twilley 'Twilley', I never remember how much I love him till I listen to his records. One of the handsomest men in music, too.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 1 January 2004 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

a really, really long live version of "you made me realise" by my bloody valentine.

etc, Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Neil Young "Reactor". I'm looking forward to "Shots", it's a FANTASTIC song, but I'm still on "T-Bone" which isn't surprising. "Southern Pacific" and "Opera Star" are pretty great too, this record's pretty underrated I guess

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 2 January 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"Southern Pacific" rules. Toot... toot... TOOT TOOT TOOT!

To answer the question, I am listening to a Paper Faces remix of Zoot Woman's "Living In A Magazine".

Schwingung (Damian), Friday, 2 January 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sleater-Kinney "The Hot Rock". I love to hear women singing like WOMEN! Fuck the guitars are good on this record! Fuck enough CHICKS have tried to sing like LEMMY or somthing! Fuck I think this would peob make it into my top10 of ever, I need to SLEEP! So would the Amps record, I just remembered finding that very funy/odd on new year's eve.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 2 January 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew the first half of that post makes absolutely no sense to me.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 2 January 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's to do w/Ak girl punk bands, but I don't really know. These pills are weird.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 3 January 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

And the Haggard!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Saturday, 3 January 2004 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

M.F. Outa' National - "Miles Out Of Time"

Schwingung (Damian), Sunday, 4 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah as you said the Ak bands are mostly the Haggard's fault anyway, this style of singing's pretty popular w/death/black metal too and it kinda makes me giggle. Don't really know why I brought it tho, there are an awful lot of bands who DON'T do it!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 4 January 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Faust - 71 Minutes Of Faust

Schwingung (Damian), Sunday, 4 January 2004 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

A new Sleater-Kinney song live, how exciting.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 4 January 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ike and Tina Turner "River Deep- Mountain High", I love Phil Spector productions. I don't remember if he was meant to have produced this whole record tho, he didn't do "Unchained Melody" according to a few people so y'know. It's GOOD anyway! I'm sure he did "A Love Like Yours", that's rather huge.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 4 January 2004 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

So's "Every Day I Have to Cry"

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 4 January 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't listen to david bowie cos i was driving in my car listening to radio hauraki and pretending to be a black sabbath guitar with rainy. i will listen to "lets dance" when i get home, its the only bowie album i have - SHAMEFUL I KNOW AND I WILL GET SOME 70S BOWIE AS SOON AS THIS JAPAN FREAKOUT HAS DIED DOWN.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 8 January 2004 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually did listen to Bowie today, thanks National Radio! Also, they had a thing on Chess records. "Ante Up" is fuckin ace. Let's go kidnap some fools and take their diamonds!

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 8 January 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh & I'm listening to Bone Crusher - "Attenchun!". 'Sgood, if only for "Never Scared" which has to be one of the best hip hop singles of 2003.

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah that's a great track! I thought he was boasting about how he'd never skated when I first heard it. I'm listening to Burger/Ink's "Las Vegas", I do this cycle thing every few months where I listen to my three albums by Jorg Burger and/or Wolfgang Voigt, so I'd expect Gas's "Konigsforst" to turn up here soon.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 8 January 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

but, but, it's THE KING's birthday today (yesterday)!!!!!!!
never mind the bowie... though, I'm sad I missed the screenings of Labyrinth that've just been on in wellington, and I'm fond of david bowie's area (the website, that is, not the entity. maybe)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 8 January 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"Watch the movie Labyrinth. On the big screen if you get the chance. Pay extra-special attention to the 'Dance, Magic Dance' scene and the part right after the oubliette, where Hoggle gives Jareth head. The camera seems magically drawn to David Bowie's Area. There are even scenes when the bulge in Jareth's tights is the only thing that's fully in focus. Repeated viewings of Labyrinth will help aclimatize you with Bowie's Area."

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 8 January 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

OutKast "The Love Below", man I love this, I listened to "Speakerboxx" ages ago saved this a few weeks it rules on its own

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Etc the beat on "She Lives in My Lap" sounds like kind of a kinda fucked w/drum n' bass thing (ie. not the stereotypical etc one) and besides his usual straightahead use of that rhythm isn't any different from like the Stones using a "reggae beat" in '74 or whenever, it's not their area so they just just steal. This happens. "Hey Ya!" is still the best track in years, it's like a MESS OF HOOKS!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

SAW YOU IN A MAG KISSIN A MAN YEAH!!!!

etc, Friday, 9 January 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hey okay i'll download that shit, no worries. was @ this party sitting outside feelin' down (just got wine SLOSHED on my by some GUY y'know, fuck) & "hey ya" was playing inside, & y'know, the whole jibe about it not even being a chorus looking for a song, but being a backing vocal looking for a chorus, seemed to stick. danced like fuck to clipse, tho - this random guy I was harassing re : his DJ choices was J0HN BYW4T3R, wahey. we was IMPRESSED by me!!!!!

etc, Friday, 9 January 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude I like the Beatles and that's a KICKASS FUCKIN CHORUS.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't like/get songs, remember?

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

uh what? i was rilly drunk & the hey ya hey ya hey yaaa hey yaaaa hey yaaa hey yaaaa ad infinitum bit just went onandon, i mean i like repetitive french filter-disco but this was a bit much, y'know?

etc, Friday, 9 January 2004 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I don't.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It lasts like what, a minute? W/a good deal of other detail in the foreground... I think you can leave songs alone, now.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

o sorry will leave them to people with the qualifications to handle them, wtf? i mean i've given up rock for you, i've given you all a boy can give you, &c.

etc, Friday, 9 January 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Young Marble Giants peel sessions.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I sure was cheery last night. Might've been nicer and more accurate to say "funk pop" songs wasn't really one of yr areas of expertise (it's not that far from soul, either, at least in the verses), but I've had it w/ILM's juvenile critical posturing over this "issue" (no-one's slipped and said they've "SOLD OUT, MAN!" yet, sadly) and when that song and most of the album it's off are making me about as happy as anything could at 4 in the morning I get a bit uncharitable towards yr semiadherence to it. I dunno if that threat to kill me was really in order, tho. Who made that "backing vocal" remark?

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Loren Mazzacane-Connors/Alan Licht etc "Hoffman Estates"

duane, Monday, 2 February 2004 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never heard any of his non-Pere Ubu stuff, not even Rocket From The Tombs I don't think. So it's good?

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 2 February 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Aislers Set "How I Learned to Write Backwards". The two David Thomas records I have are both very very good. A lot more MOVING than most Pere Ubu, if that's a good thing.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 2 February 2004 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I find Pere Ubu very moving at times ("Humour Me", "Not Happy") and pretty funny at others. I also like to listen to them in the bath.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 2 February 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

And Creedence Clearwater. For the usual reason.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 2 February 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah lots of PU is moving, those esp and others and the "Tenement Year" Lp which has lots of songs about Peter Laughner

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 2 February 2004 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

cLOUDDEAD - "Ten". Woo that's some new shit right there.

Minty (Minty), Monday, 2 February 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The few interviews I read w/ David Thomas (mostly in Please Kill Me and I think that Velvets to Voidoids book where the author is very in favour of Pere Ubu esp over the Dead Boys, if I remember rightly) he didn't seem exactly SAD about Laughner dying, or at least reluctant to talk about and convinced he bought it on himself. Which he did, I guess. But I'd like to hear that EP. That reminds me that I find "Life Stinks" kinda funny at face value, but in retrospect it feels like I shouldn't be laughing cause it seems a lot more bitterly serious.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 2 February 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

From what I know (not too much really) DT just couldn't cope w/PL dying, and didn't really get round to dealing w/it till that record and the time around it. There are some awfully sad songs on it.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 5 February 2004 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Rhythm King", "The Busman's Honeymoon", prob "We Have the Technology" are meant to be specifically about him, I think. Also prob "Say Goodbye" and "Miss You" now I look at the lyrics. I wish I remembered where I saw this, it makes the record really moving (well I felt like that already but it helped).

OutKast "The Love Below". It's on 'God', how I love the senstive guitar backing to the not so sensitive (except maybe sarcastically) lyric. 'She doesn't even have to have a big ol' ass!'

NZ Idol on tv, how wonderful

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 7 March 2004 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The judges are so NICE.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 7 March 2004 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't understand why Paul felt compelled to include some sort of anecdote about the contestant's past rather than an actual criticism of their performance. Loveless.

Livvie (Livvie), Sunday, 7 March 2004 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

GIRLS AT OUR BEST!

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Pleasure", this record is FANTASTIC. No shit. Some bad lyrics but who cares about that, every song has SOMETHING great about it. Most have lots of things.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm listening to sarah dougher again. "the ground below". its like my favourite love song ever this week.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Nemesis Dub Systems. I found a whole bunch of tragic old Pagan/Wildside records in the $1 bins at Echo, I'm gonna torment radio listeners with them tomorrow night.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 04:25 (twenty-two years ago)

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
I had a cassingle or tape Ep or something by them once. Oh god no! NO! Actually you should play Trasch (that's the Wellington ones with samplers not the Dunedin ones with R Yeats); Ess K did you ever that Trasch cassette I sent?

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

No MC OJ & THE RHythm Slave? (were they on wildside?)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 11 March 2004 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 11 March 2004 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm beaming this post on to IRE w/my MIND

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a laptop with a manky dialup connection, so downloading songs takes forever. For example, it took all the other night to download what turned out to be teaser snippets of PJ Harvey's new album. Gah.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Howard Tate - "Get It While You Can"

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Roxy Music "Avalon"

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ah minty, i would never suggest you download songs. that would be illegal. (i should point out that my pfunk cdr is burnt from original purchased cds)

i was referring to my vain attempts to arrange cdr trades with new zealanders who still prefer audio cassette.

"woman" John Lennon.
yes! yes! yesssss!

We used to have this played to us at ballet classes - I used to think it was Cliff Richard, along with "I am the eye in the sky, looking at you-u-u I cam read your mind" which I only recently foundout is actually by the Alan Parsons Project.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Monday, 19 April 2004 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Should I get an Alan Parsons Project album?
I, Robot ends "with the instrumental 'Genesis Ch. 1 V. 32,' the promising tempo and air of this song invoke hope for all mankind."
Hmmmm. Dose Duane like them? Oops dose = does but that's a nice mistake.
Now I'm listening to a fancy record of H's, Harmony of the Spheres, the Roy Montgomery side, covering or maybe just inspired by Sandy Bull.

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Fleetwood Mac - "Tusk". It's pretty good, I guess.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Not by much tho did I turn the volume up, McCoy Tyner sounds kinda great on this, esp in the louder bits

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually turned the volume down for "Tusk", but only cos I had it way up from listening to beat-up op shop Smiths tapes earlier on. Fuck this is fascinating.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Roo you still haven't apologised for what you said about Big Dave.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 23 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 23 April 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

the grey album is jayz's black album vocals over looped and chopped beatles white album bits. its ok. the tracks stray too close to IDM for me.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 25 April 2004 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I sort of can't believe "Sister". Not much shocks me at all but it's from 1980 and it's just clearly no stupid metaphors etc involved about fantasising about his sister fucking him. AND he's 16, he's 32. I think. Wow. Yuck. Wow.
