As long as Bumgarner starts in the Wild Card Game. The San Francisco Giants in 2017.

Which of these will happen first:

- Bumgarner will scream at an opposing batter.
- A .gif of Hunter Pence fighting seagulls make the first page of SB Nation.
- Matt Cain to the DL
- BeeOK will have a meltdown in this thread.
- Everyone realises Pablo Sandoval was the key to everything.

Jokes aside I'm bullish on this squad.

beeok meltdown for sure

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 30 March 2017 01:50 (seven years ago) link

Reds were pretty f-ing stupid to not sign Cueto. I see it as a mistake not unlike what the Cubs did with Maddux back in the 90s.

earlnash, Thursday, 30 March 2017 01:52 (seven years ago) link

The fact that Cueto is the #2 says something about the Giants pitching. As long as him and Bumgarner stay healthy, they are going to be competitive.

Did they do any moves to improve the bullpen, that seems to be their big issue last couple years.

earlnash, Thursday, 30 March 2017 01:54 (seven years ago) link

what, really? of course it's 2017.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 25 April 2017 05:41 (seven years ago) link

Now, let's talk cell-phone flashlights and the so-called "rally lights" at AT&T Park. Our Sam Whiting wrote about it here. It's cute. It's fun. And it's drawn the attention of the league, which has let the Giants know it's not completely kosher.

A major-league source told me that the umpires have been in contact with the league, which has contacted stadium officials to express its concern that an infielder could get hurt by losing a ball in those flashlights. These are not Hollywood Kleig lights by any means, but if you're standing at third base and a line drive comes at your head, it might be hard to distinguish the ball from those lights.

Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner complained about one light that was shining in his eyes Monday night. The umpires stopped the game briefly and had the customer flip off his light.

Now, this is not the No Fun League. Baseball has not told the Giants that fans cannot do the rally lights. But it wants the team to work with ushers in the sections between the bases behind the plate to get those lights turned off for safety reasons.

The last thing the league wants is to stop a game because of this. For one thing, officials understand that fans being fans, that'll only make them keep the lights on longer, at the expense of their cellphone batteries.

But, the umpires have the right to stop the game and take the drastic measure of ending it. If they do, Giants lose 9-0 by forfeit.

So, if an usher tells you to turn of your cellphone flash, it might be a good idea.

So I guess the Giants are as bad as they were in the second half of 2016, and unless they find a way to dramatically turn it around in May, it looks like they are going to be sellers. Cueto can opt out this summer, I guess this makes him a good trade target? I think the small core is there (the homegrown infield, Ty Blach, Moore, Bumgarner), everything else is a mess. Nunez and Span are combining for -0,6, that's two third of the infield for the next couple of months.

even worse cuz you know getting to slug some shitty reliever who beaned you because of your awesomeness is the ultimate Bryce Harper fantasy

in retrospect i can't believe i ever saw buster posey as a decent human being, all the signs were there

qualx, Tuesday, 30 May 2017 23:47 (six years ago) link

wait what happened i must have missed something

k3vin k., Tuesday, 30 May 2017 23:48 (six years ago) link

buster posey's bad now xp

Bee OK, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 00:49 (six years ago) link

i see suspensions have come down:

Strickland- 6
Harper - 4

Bee OK, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 00:55 (six years ago) link

I hope Harper appeals it down to about 2 or 3 innings.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 3 June 2017 01:52 (six years ago) link

I'm in favor of getting rid of Strickland.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 3 June 2017 22:21 (six years ago) link

cowardly half measure. posey and bochy have to go. everyone knows it, giants fans know it, just admit it.

qualx, Saturday, 3 June 2017 22:41 (six years ago) link

First we take Bumgarner, then we take Bochy.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 3 June 2017 22:44 (six years ago) link

Welcome, Sam Dyson.

Andy K, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 00:36 (six years ago) link

i don't understand this move but hey.

Bee OK, Thursday, 8 June 2017 01:18 (six years ago) link

would love to remind everyone that Bumgarner is still a more valuable contributor to the offense than all but four players on this squad. one of which is Austin Slater.

Slater is a rookie with 29 PA.

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 04:22 (six years ago) link

Patiently waits for next year's draft*

Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 14 June 2017 21:59 (six years ago) link

i now want them to lose every game. i want to make sure Bobby Evens does not make a move to try and better this team before the deadline. i want that high draft pick and also want them to sell.

Bee OK, Thursday, 15 June 2017 00:43 (six years ago) link

Agreed (but if Posey could continue padding that HOF resumé, perfect.)

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 15 June 2017 00:54 (six years ago) link

i also love the Slater kid, he is probably a keeper.

Bee OK, Thursday, 15 June 2017 01:04 (six years ago) link

Really believed we had this one.

How many times did a walk off completed a cycle?

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 18 June 2017 22:29 (six years ago) link

they should have won three out of four but, of course, they lost all four instead.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 20 June 2017 01:31 (six years ago) link

Austin Slater has been fun to watch. i usually tune out and put the game on my phone, when he comes up i tune in.

The Average Sports Fan: How were so many people so wrong about the Giants?

Jeff Sullivan: I don’t really know what we’re supposed to learn, here. Crawford forgot how to hit, Pence forgot how to hit, and Bumgarner forgot how to practice responsible dirt-biking safety habits

this made me laugh:

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/pablo-sandoval-says-struggled-boston-heart-s-f-210626441.html

At the end of the day, I just never felt comfortable in Boston. It had nothing to do with the organization, or my teammates, or the fans, or the city. Everybody was great to me. I think it was just something that happens sometimes — you don’t feel comfortable somewhere, or you don’t fit in, even if you’re in a place you chose to be.
In Boston, I was lost. It just never felt like home. And then I got released, and it was the worst feeling. I knew it was coming, but when it actually happened, it felt worse than I had even imagined it would. I felt like my career was over — like everything I had worked for my whole life was just … you know … done. All the great memories. All the great times you have playing this game. And one day, it can all be gone like that.
I had the greatest times of my life in San Francisco. And when I chose to leave, I left the special group of guys that I had shared those times with. I left behind the chemistry I had built with my teammates. I left behind a dynasty.
And I think that’s another reason I struggled so much the last couple of years: Because every day I spent in Boston, my heart was still back in San Francisco.
