except i dunno about the shania. do you have cable? you could just watch cmt and probably hear the same songs.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, but I really love "Any Man of Mine" and it's on that album, and I was kinda jonesing for an overdose of that ridiculous Lange production, and it was only a buck (oh, ok, $3.50 after shipping.) But yeah, it's tough to listen to all the way through.

El Janko (JasonD), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax, i downloaded all of those for $0.00! not a collector!

Site Admistrator (deangulberry), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i had them downloaded too, it's just that i like to support musicians i admire/enjoy... sorry!

jaX0ff, it includes: the lcd soundsystem s/t on 1st CD, every lcd soundsystem single plus a bonus track on the 2nd CD, and the last disc is the mix that James Murphy did for Colette a year or two ago for the Colette No5 comp... but instead of one long track it's been indexed and it sounds a little cleaned up.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 31 January 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have that Vanity 6 record, but I thought it was sort of boring last time I listened to it.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 31 January 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I am listening to it now and I dunno. Maybe I will listen again in March for Wymmnyz Hystery Month.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 31 January 2005 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

there was a lot of love on it from this thread (The Vanity 6 album: C or D????), and someone posted the whole thing for download so i grabbed it. it's satisfying my 80s r'n'b & prince fix. those andre cymone and jesse johnson records i bought are also minneapolis/prince cohorts

Teh Negative Approach CD is, I think, everything? It's got one early song from a comp, the 10 song EP from '82, and their album. It is SO GOOD.

Tell me more about VIOLET RAMP plz.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 31 January 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

negative approach is da bomb as iz early necros (with corey rusk in the group). tng classics. violent ramp is wolf eyezers skate punk tribute band. gygax likes to do half-pipes or whatever while listening to it on the turntable strapped on his back.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 31 January 2005 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

that early necros ep isn't in print, though, is it? what is the best way to get that?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 31 January 2005 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck, i passed on a Camberwell Now record the other day and now i kick me

El Janko (JasonD), Monday, 31 January 2005 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were to get the Byrds' 5D album now, I'd get the CD with the bonus tracks. I only got to hear them once at someone's house, but some of that stuff sounded awesome. Get it used and get a cheap copy of the Younger Than Yesterday LP used (make sure to get stereo versions unless you're super into mono or something). (I don't know if the bonus tracks on the Younger than Yesterday CD are worth it or not.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Coconut Hotel is not so great, I don't think.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

who's "super into mono"?

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

record collectors.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

ian, check out this thread for a bunch of fake byrds sounding groups. that Euphoria record is still the bizness
I found $41 on the ground today, so let's talk about Psychedelic Country!

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess I AM NOT A COLLECTOR

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for that thread jaxon! did you ever re-visit the dead? I have both American Beauty and Anthem of the Sun. I like the latter of the two better; I wonder if you ever got around to listening to it? I'm sure you can find a copy cheap. I got mine for $3 or $4 I think. Some of the stuff on side 2 is collaged together from live performances and so doesn't sink into boring wankage. It wallows in good wankage. Side 1 is more pop/psych feelin.

I know Roger Adultery swears by a bunch of Dead records, and I trust his judgement more or less.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the only two i got were American Beauty (fine enough, but only listened to a few times), and Blues For Allah. i really like the last song on it, but the rest kinda sucked.

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard Blues For Allah. At any rate, if you see it super cheap Anthem may be worth a listen.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, the first album and third album aren't very good. I do like "Golden Road" on the first album and I really like "St. Stephen" on Aoxomoxoa.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

tim I thot you might be talking about the Negative Approach bootlegy thingy. gotta get that.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

what is it?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno, there was something on the hanson list about a month ago about it. maybe it's german?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, that Total Recall is so amazing.

the live stuff on there is hilarious. the recording is SO overdriven and in the red. Like, Brannon is already totally ridiculous as it is .. just imagine that heaviousity pumped up even further through a really shitty recording -- sounds like Brannon was creaming directly into a condenser mic or something. "You made your choice! now! No turning back!!!" TOTALLY ESSENTIAL. I'm gonna listen to it NOW.

I think there was supposed to be a similar official NECROS 'EVERYTHING' CD on T&G but for whatever reason it has never seen the light of day. Weird. probably only DJ CHAMBERWEED knows the deal...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and also Tim, the first GD record is AMAZING all the way through, you're totally on crack.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

AOXOMOXOA does kind of suck tho, I'll grant you that...

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 3 February 2005 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It's GOOD, but not MINDBLOWING. It's also really poorly recorded for the most part.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 3 February 2005 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Who did release magic family out from the base of $499 (deangulberry), Saturday, 12 February 2005 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I just now saw Scott's question up there...

Um, lemme remember, I think I bought:

Afreaka! - Demon Fuzz lp
V/A - Ghana Soundz 2 Cd
King Sunny Ade - Oro T'Onlo Cd
V/A - Funky Funky Chicago CD
Joe Harriott - Swings Low cd
Arthur Russell - World of Echo CD

As you can see, it was a very Afrocentric trip! and phallocentric. I meant to balance that out by buying one of those Dream Babes comps or that Donna McGhee reissue or something, but they were out of them. Rick over there never orders enough copies of stuff. Seriously, they'll get something in and have it for like 3 or 4 days, and then be out again. I've never understood it. but hey, he's a conservative guy.

I'm actually thinking of heading back there tonite, because there's a couple things back in stock that I wanna pick up. Oh, and I bought a couple things on half.com again-

George Lewis - Voyager cd (thanks to Julio reminding me that it was high time I got it)
V/A - Ragga Essentials ina Dancehall Style cd

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 12 February 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

George Clinton - Computer Games
Bootsy Collins - Player of the Year
TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze DVD
weed
jug of wine

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Saturday, 12 February 2005 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

this Joe Harriott Quintet record is real nice, I'm actually listening to it right now. Not as wild as his earlier records, which is interesting because it came after that stuff, but it's a nice little groover.

that dancehall CD is great if a noize dude is a dancehall dilettante, as I most admittedly am. Dave Stelfox or whoever could totally start a sarcastic 'noize dude is down with dancehall' thread about me, and I would be guilty as charged! But anyway, yeah, this comp is amazing.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 12 February 2005 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

how is the Afreaka! - Demon Fuzz lp. i keep seeing it and totally thinking it'd be up my alley. the cover is so fucking rad. reminds me of a scorpions cover or something. is it funk or afro-funk?

that dancehall cd you bought looks like a good primer for earlier stuff. i actually don't know most of the tracks, but i can just tell by the artists. i'm sure it's good, but i'm actually more into the modern stuff.

George Clinton - Computer Games
gah! i've been looking for this for a while now. did you get it on cd or vinyl? i don't know why it's so hard to find? is the rest of it as good as atomic dog or is it just really stiff keyboard/drum machine funk? i found two vinyl copies in vancouver over new years but they were both more than 20$ and i didn't think it was worth that much, especially since i could tell the place was way overpriced.

Tito JaXoN (JasonD), Sunday, 13 February 2005 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Lizzy Mercier Descloux - Mambo Nassau (whoa! way different than Press Color. super african Talking heads style)

John Martyn - So Far So Good (kinda pissed that it's a greatest hits and i didn't realize that when i bought it. still he's fucking fab)

New Birth Brass Band - D-Boy

Little Richard - The Second Coming (i got this for 2$ because i know he's got some hard funk albums and this is from 72. it's got some chunka chunka wha wha funk, but it's just ok)

Tito JaXoN (JasonD), Sunday, 13 February 2005 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess the covers aren't that similar, but they remind me of each other

jaxon, I got Computer Games on CD from half.com for like $4. Atomic Dog is the best song, but lots of it is very good. The drum-machine funk is offset nicely by weird stuff ("Pot Sharing Tots" !!). Really it's all very silly.

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Sunday, 13 February 2005 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

dood, dusty groove makes EVERYTHING sound righteous.

jack, get this "electronic music" cd. it's got diamorphoses (1957), concret PH (1958), orient-occident (1960), bohor (1962), hibiki-hana-ma (1970) and s.709 (1992). basically the xenakis electronic music lp on nonesuch, with 2 extra tracks, remastered. very good, very intense. very dockstader like, in points, but with more complexity. also, the remastered persepolis cd is pretty fantastic.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 18 February 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

agreeing with hstencil, the 'electronic music' cd is the place to start

my favorite mix of 'persepolis' is the one on edition rz (second on this page)

my favorite of all is 'la legend d'eer' but it's more of a monster, you kind of have to plan your whole day around listening to it

V/A - That's What Friends Are For (Jazzman 7" comp)
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and his Fuji Group
Egg - s/t (completely stupid and insane 1st rekkerd from Canturbury proggers. god i love this shit)

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, this Clifford Brown thing is ... odd. The band is really sloppy on the first track, a "Cherokee". I've honestly never heard Roach play this way. He's just stomping all over everything, all crash cymbals and snare work. Huh. And Brown -- the guy I basically consider the greatest trumpet player, and certainly one of the greatest *musicians* of all time -- is kind of off his game as well. Interesting. Well, to be fair, this was just a jam session and wasn't intended to be an album release. Still, fascinating to hear Brown revealed as ... human after all.

Who did release magic family out from the base of $499 (deangulberry), Thursday, 24 February 2005 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It's fun to throw kitschy impromptu dance parties for close friends, but the 2 bands i really want to use it for keep getting rainchecks on our practices/studio sessions, so i haven't fucked around with it too much.

2. Viola Brothers (gritty Texas prog? from the early 70s)

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 24 February 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

See now, I liked the monk in india stuff and the juicy lucy/joe cocker stuff in that latest installment of the misunderstood epic. the last part is in the next issue. but yeah, it's quite a lot. book-length even.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 24 February 2005 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

LaToya JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 24 February 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the speakers cd sort of looks bootish but the sound is OK. screwey beatlesque in spots psych rock leaning towards the pop as opposed to the rock. i think i like it.

Shut Up `N Play Yer Guitar - Barking Pumpkin 1981
Rating = 5

I totally just made up this hilarious joke when I was out in Central Park at 11:30 at night playing with Henry the Dog. Check this out: So Jesus Christ is nailed to the cross with all his disciples at his feet. Suddenly he yanks one of his hands free and immediately reaches for his cock. There's a great flurry of motion and then with a satisfied "Aaaah!," Jesus squirts jets of cum out of his prick all over the followers nestled at his feet. When he'd shot about a gallon, Paul or whoever finally speaks, "Jesus. ummm.. I must say I'm a bit surprised that when you got your hand free, the first thing you thought of to do was masturbate your penis." So Jesus replies, "Actually I was just intending to cover my nudity, but I forgot about this fucking hole in my hand!"

Say! Who's up for a triple-album of guitar solos?

(absolute silence)

I went bargain bin hunting. all the cds were scratched and on sale and the records were 3 dollars or less.

records:
Bobby O - Suspicious Minds 12"
(yes, the elvis song! done in a Hi-NRG/pet shop boys style. radical)

Cerrone & Latoya Jackson - Oops, Oh No! 12"
(i think this is my holy grail! i love cerrone, and duh, latoya. it's pretty much a subpar 86 Janet song, but look at this cover!)

Midi, Maxi & Efti - Bad Boys 12"
(i bought this because of this chuck e thread. actually did a search on them, and chuck and frank kogan are the only people talking about them, there must be some conspiracy they're trying to start?)

Rotary Connection - Peace
(their christmas album!?)

Tom Tom Club - s/t
(i think this, the rotary connection and the prince are the only albums i didn't buy w/o a snicker)

cds:
Prince - Sign o' The Times

Mars Volta - De Loused
(i dunno, i've had this weird urge to listen to these guys?! it was really cheap)

Happy 2B Hardcore
(also some weird urge to relive my raving past. needed some realy stupid fast shit. was only 2$)

Prindle's Crimson reviews are pretty good too dudes:

Larks' Tongues In Aspic - Atlantic 1973.
Rating = 7

Mmm, I'll never forget the last time I had MY tongue in a spic. That fuckin Puerto Rican slut had the tastiest

On this album, Robert has surrounded himself with a whole new gang of noisemakers, including a zany noisemaker named Jamie Muir who bashes chains, pots and pens, bags of leaves and all sorts of silliness while former Yes GOD drummer Bill Bruford and future Asia mouthpiece John Wetton surround Robert Fripp with big loud ass-kicking whateverness. And they're GOOD!!!! They've tightened and toughened up their little pussy sound, made it kick solid rumpity, and most importantly have decided to concentrate almost completely on the cool instrumental jams that were the highlights of the last few records. For once, they actually sound like they've got a VISION in mind for the band! The only problem is that they still can't write an actual *SONG* that doesn't make you (me) want to cringe and stick your (my) fingers in your (your) ears (vagina). "Exiles" is so bad, it's like... like.... why, it's like ASIA!!! The other two "songs" suffer too, aside from the nice instrumental breaks. But at least Fripp has finally found something he's good at! This is it, mang. Hard avant-garde improv jazz rock. THIS is where the Crimson needs to concentrate. They'll have to do it without Jamie Muir though. He abruptly quit during the next tour due to intense spiritual yearnings brought on by that same dumbass Autobiography Of A Yogi book that made Jon Anderson write Tales From Topographic Not Making Any Goddamned Sense At All. the early scritti politi cd is pretty dang good -- at least until the last song or so on it. the early stuff does live up to the hype, which is quite shocking considering what an absolutely terrible band they became.

things i bought this weekend:

1. excepter KA cd
2. lau nau kuutarha
3. the supreme reality universal rundle
4. pylon no cobras

i bought the 2nd Bobby Brown album, live from 78, but it never arrived.

i heard the, or perhaps a, prurient record. i didnt like it much. i think it wasnt the one ian mentioned above. oh it was shipwrecker something or other

i heard laurent garniers the man with the red face at a party on saturday night, and it sounded good, though i was pretty high at that point

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 11 March 2005 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, i've always liked metal. i listened to tons of it in highschool. sabbath is one of my favorite bands, and i started that Heavy Riffage - s/d thread. but for some reason i always though judas priest and iron maiden were too silly with the opera singing. i was at best buy yesterday and saw the Collectors box for 37$. i thought it had 12 JP discs, but really it just has 4discs and room for 8more. weak. so i figured i could probably find all the records for cheap.

i played it and assumed mrs jaxon would get fed up with it, and finally she turned it off. i laughed and she said it was actually the ballad at the end of the first song that really bugged her, the metal didn't bother her at all.

I just thot it was funny to see a JP lp up there in yer purchases. I love Sin After Sin! Great record. and yeah, I think I bought mine for like a buck. "Sinner" is really good, and of course "Dissident Aggressor" is a total classic. ha -- ballad -- that's probably the cover of Joan Baez "Diamonds and Rust". yeah, it's silly.

I am a fan of the sounds of Klaus Shultze, Tangerine Dream, edgar Froese, Steve Roach, Can, and others like the Orb and future Sound of london. I have played analog synths (Moog, Arp 2600 and Oberheim 4 voice .etc)and full modulars and owned a few of the less expensive ones. The Fizmo (what a strange name!) fills my personal requirement for sound experimentation and I use it pretty frequently. After over 2 years I continue to discover a new and quirky patch almost every week.

douglas likes his late period coltrane, I'll give him that: POX: John Coltrane

if the purpose of the review is simply to say 'don't start here' then fine: there are lots of consumers out there who wait until a musician reaches box set status to invest, and they shouldn't start there (from what little I've heard of it)... but I guess Douglas is just taking a stand

I have a friend who bought each of the Schulze box sets as they came out, right down to box #5 of Historic... I'm bringing over my powerbook to rip 'em at some point. He says there's lots of great stuff on them though you have to hunt.

The TD bootleg box 1 was an impulse buy after a recent night drive with Phaedra..... 7 lo-fi discs, fun to skip through, they were definitely live & free, but relentlessly wanky... cool as a document but the box is already on the shelf.

Re. article: How is it that Ayler is supposedly nowhere near as significant as Pharoah Sanders?

I also really disliked this: "Ayler did the single most significant thing a cult artist can do for his subsequent reputation: dying young, at 34."

And yeah, "Smallmouth" my ass.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

esp has put out five godz albums.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

huh.
guess i was confused about who stayed and who left ESP.

But uhh... are those last two any good? Received wisdom says no, but I haven't heard 'em. Third Testament is pretty decent.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i got the new antony and the johnsons record... am i soulless or something? why does this fail to push my buttons?

pit er pat's record is fun.

enjoying the orange twin field works #1. i had this before and lost it... so it's nice to rejoin. great rackets from far away places.

the new kills record is likeable. i said it st elsewhere, but i think the kills > newer royal trux. (i know, i now shall face the spanish exquisition for that...)

emusic just got rer megacorp, etc. so i'm trying to decide between faust "the faust tapes", fred frith "gravity", and mnemonists "horde"... or maybe something completely different. black mountain maybe.

msp (msp), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Third Testament is great -- the quality drops after that, with the fifth album, which has gone under both the titles (in slightly different forms) Godz Bless America and Pass On This Side really sucking.

I quite like the fourth album Godzundheit, which is all three of them doing their songs ca. '73 with different backing musicians plus a ridiculous cover of "Jumping Jack Flash" where they sing it without learning the words. It also includes their great Godz 2 era single "The Whiffenspoof Song." Jim McCarthy's solo album Alien is pretty good, too, but I'd take Godzundheit over that.

I think "the received wisdom" on Godzundheit is not so much "wisdom" as someone going, "Whoa this is like '70s rock, dude."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

most of those 45s i got are pretty crappy though. i'm just a sucker for goofy euro-picture sleeves. i could always use them in some sort of art project. the miles and the art blakey though. i could probably get 50 bucks apiece for them. they aren't perfect, maybe vg/vg+, but they are pretty nice (1st press, columbia 6 eye label, etc.) i dunno, maybe not 50 apiece. near mint they both go for about a hundred.

that's good news for ReR... www.rerusa.com has made it a lot easier/cheaper to order their stuff too. all three albums are fantastic, I'd say 'faust tapes' though.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 18 March 2005 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

christ this Hagerty album RULES. why did I wait so long to buy it??

this guy has never done wrong in my eyes. God I hate being so fannish but there it is. I like the fact that he keeps pumping stuff out -- fact of the matter is, it's always of high quality! Fuck this waiting around for a couple years between records stuff. Hagerty's been tenaciously feeling the muse for 15 years, so why take a break, you know? you get old soon enough.

it's weird people always kind of downplayed the first solo alb, at least compared to #s 2 & 3, but this is great. Hearkens back to Twin Infinitives style loopiness. Also his singing voice is so soft and restrained in places; he never really goes for that Trux style projection until that 5th track "Whiplish in Park". really really sweet.

yeah JaXoN this album kinda reminds me of the Shuggie Otis stuff too so I can see why you'd dig it. I don't think anything he's done sounds *quite* like this, but then it all sounds like this, you know? I'd try maybe Accelerator next if ya want to czech out some more..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 18 March 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

The second Hagerty solo album (Neil Hagerty Plays That Good Ol' Rock and Roll) was kind of crap-o, actually. That first one's pretty good.

Later Royal Trux albums might have their moments, but at the time, they seemed dull to me. I don't know what they did post-Thank You that was not just more of the same, really, with a new "just keepin' on keepin' on" vibe that totally (negatively) contrasted with what I perceived to be the real inspiration of their early years.

thoughts on the evens cd?
m.

On first listen, I like it. The easy formula is:

pop (fugazi + girl - screaming) = evens

If that sounds appealing, you'd like it. It reminds me at times of Young People or the calmer songs by the Ex.

you make me feel like a tyrannosaurus rex (deangulberry), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

wtf does a pop() function do? or is that implicit multiplication?

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

fugazi = new(ian)
fugazi = push(guy, fugazi)
fugazi = push(joe, fugazi)
fugazi = push(brendan, fugazi)
evens = pop(guy, fugazi)
evens = pop(joe, evens)
evens = pop(brendan, evens)
evens = push (amy, evens)

you make me feel like a tyrannosaurus rex (deangulberry), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess it would just be three pops ... also i had the wrong order. ahh fuck it. i just meant multiplication anyways.

gareth, have you heard Ramases. i downloaded an mp3 and totally thought of you. spaced out moog, tape effects and hippy songs on top. totally reminded me of White Noise.

also, have you heard 50 Ft Hose. i just read an article/interview on them in some really cool free mag called Warrior (i think) and they sound rad.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

no, ive never heard of ramases. sounds good though

i dont remember liking 50ft hose when i heard them, but it was a while ago. i was a bit disappointed with the joe byrd and the field hippies record too. and never got into lothar & the hand people. sometimes these things just dont happen:/

i got bobby brown live in 1978, and should have got prayers of a one man band too, but didnt

i got the 1971 onstage majority record, and one of piero umilianis electonic records from 1971 also

im umming and ahhing over a claude bolling 7" that has the word Ordinateur in the title and a good sleeve

i have both the United States and Field Hippies records (i have both reissues, but found an original Joe Byrd for 3$, but it's totally water wrecked). yeah, not so into them as most other people are. and i've had that lothar cd for years and also kinda eh on it. kinda stupid fun, but mostly stupid.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i posted about the Ramases thing on that ILM Mix cd blog! that's probably where you got the MP3. I'm glad you dug it! ha, what's funny is that I was also really close to posting a Fifty Foot Hose track! but I couldn't find a way to fit it in with the 'theme' of the mix. But I totally wanted to post this song "Bad Trip" from that CD (actually a single by the pre-50 Foot Hose band called The Ethix), it's fucking insane. Total noize.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I had decided I wasn't into the Lothar CD and I sold it back last year, but not before burning it. but what's funny is I never labelled the CD I burned, and I had a huge stack of CDRs that I hadn't labelled, so one night I went through them and listened to them, and when I put on the Lothar thing, I didn't know what it was, but I was like "Holy fuck! What is THIS! this is amazing!" It took me a couple tracks to figure out that it was Lothar. So now I want to buy the CD again. Funny.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yay! i'm glad it all comes around somehow. i forgot where i got the Ramases track from.

i'll put on the Lothar cd soon to reevaluate. it's been years since i've heard it. it's sitting near the Brainticket cd. maybe i'll see how that one treats me too.

ps. i've also never had much love for Forever Changes (not really that psych, but one of those albums everyone rates so high). i think i just like the 70s more than i like the 60s

FUCK, I LIKE THE 70s MORE THAN I LIKE ANYTHING

yeah man, i woulda loved to hang out more myself, but having an entrourage of about 12 people at all times gets really fucking tiresome, really fucking quick. it usually takes about an hour to make any decisions and finding a place to eat, fuggitaboutit. also, no one wanted to go to brooklyn ever again. it's sorta weird, but we hardly ever go to oakland, so i guess i can see why.

PS1 fucking rocked.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Gygax!, do you rememer that record store called Cow in Ocean Beach?

Anyway, people, I was in Cow today and the guy working there starts playing what sounds like this amazing early seventies Euro bubblegum record and I ask him what it is and he tells me it's Giorgio Moroder. Four songs into it, I'm going, "No way." I go up to the counter and ask him if he has a copy of the album for sale and he says, "Yeah, it'll be $2.98" and takes the record off, puts it back in the jacket and hands it to me. It's the Son of My Father LP from '72 on ABC/Dunhill. I also got an original mint copy of MX-80 Sound's Out of the Tunnel for $4.98. They had an original copy of Hampton Grease Band's Music to Eat for $9.98 which I did not buy (already own).

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

And, come to think, of it, I purchased my copy of Music to Eat 10+ years ago at ... Cow! It was five bucks.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm... If I think it might be the record store that I'm thinking of, I only went there 1x... (I got a Nico 7"). My mind is cloudy about stores that weren't Lou's or Off The Record.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck, tim, i just bought that giorgio record at the beginning of april in Ny for 20$.

listen to the last song on the second side if you haven't already. it's the organ sample from that DJ Shadow track. the rest of the album is pretty rad too. tons of fuzz over the bubblegum.

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i just picked up that brazilian post punk Não Wave comp. two songs in and i'm a happy man

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

tim, if you like that record, there's also a record called Giorgio & Chris that shouldn't be too hard to find (i found two copies of it when i was in Seattle over new years). it sounds like if Abba sang over some light moogy moroder tracks.
