this is a good read. the problem itself is not exactly a revelation but a lot of interesting angles around it in the article.

Denver, formerly known as Dry Pond, is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located in Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States.[1] It is situated on North Carolina State Highway 16 on the west shore of Lake Norman on the Catawba River. It is about 25 miles north of downtown Charlotte and just south of the Catawba County boundary.

Denver's ZIP code is 28037 and the FIPS place code is 17000. The elevation is 902 feet above sea level.

Carolina at Denver - It often seems the losing Superbowl team often wins these rematch games, sometimes big. I got to think Carolina's D will probably eat that kid Qb for lunch.

SUNDAY, SEP. 11
Tampa Bay at Atlanta- Eh...I have no idea on these clubs. I'm going Tampa as they sucked less than ATL at the end of last year and it seems some people are liking what they see out of Winston.
Buffalo at Baltimore- I'd think this could be a decent game. Hard to figure on either club as they are in that middling area. In doubt, I will take the Ravens at home.
Chicago at Houston- Depending on how their QB play goes, Houston could perhaps be pretty good. I'll take the Texans. From what I've been reading, it seems outside Long the Bear's O-line is still a total mess. One of America's favorite pastimes is hating Jay Cutler, why change...
Green Bay at Jacksonville- Green Bay is usually great in September and beat up at the end of the year. Can't believe in JVille until they win some games.
San Diego at Kansas City- Quite a few people are liking KC this year. AFC West games are usually toss ups, but I would take the Chiefs at home. SD is hard to figure, they do have some talented players.
Oakland at New Orleans- Silver and Black vs. Black and Gold is a pretty good color matchup. Kinda hard to go with the Raiders on the road until they got a record of winning such games even if the Saints are in rebuild mode.
Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets- Cincy on paper seems pretty well stocked again this year. I'd figure Bengals.
Cleveland at Philadelphia- Wow...both clubs in rebuilding. Hard to figure. I guess to pick you just go with Philly at home even with the rookie QB.
Minnesota at Tennessee- Interesting matchup, but I got to think even with the QB issues the Vikings are better.
Miami at Seattle- Seattle at home. Miami might be decent though.
N.Y. Giants at Dallas- I'd figure Giants with the rookie QB.
Detroit at Indianapolis- Another interesting matchup and I'd figure one or both of these coaches are getting fired if it don't work this year. Detroit's road record the last 25 years leads me to take Colts at home.
New England at Arizona- You would figure AZ since Brady is not playing. Curious to see how NE does without him.

MONDAY, SEP. 12
Pittsburgh at Washington- Interesting matchup, curious to see if the Hatcats improve. I'd figure the Steelers are probably better out of the gate though.
L.A. Rams at San Francisco- This used to be an old school rivalry game. It's a pickem. I think the Rams are the more talented club.

new denver qb looks like he could be a manning cousin. based on that play i imagine that's the main reason he's out there.

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 11 September 2016 18:10 (seven years ago) link

i was playing cricket one time at high school and was batting vs the star sports guy in our year. first play he threw the ball approx 100 mph and it nearly hit me. 2nd play as soon as he released the ball i just thought fuck this and literally ran away. and now, watching this game, it is interesting to see andy dalton do basically the same thing every dropback

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 11 September 2016 18:14 (seven years ago) link

re: defense, in the past few days i've heard/read scouting comments to the effect of average-at-best line, middling secondary, and yet they just methodically make good plays

call all destroyer, Monday, 12 September 2016 02:29 (seven years ago) link

i guess you can question the depth of the secondary but the starting unit is great, even if chung is an occasional liability. line is good and also deep.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 12 September 2016 02:34 (seven years ago) link

i'm thinking the problem is that they run such an unglamorous scheme it's hard to tell that it's working until you see the w-l record

call all destroyer, Monday, 12 September 2016 02:36 (seven years ago) link

jimmy was pretty good. couple of v nice plays, no real bonehead throws. needs to speed up his reads maybe but that's the kind of thing that can come with game experience

he seemed p poised

lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 03:38 (seven years ago) link

yeah i see the potential. his reads weren't always crisp but this was a tight game throughout and he didn't do anything egregiously dumb

i watched two games this week and both ended on missed field goals

lag∞n, Monday, 12 September 2016 04:19 (seven years ago) link

Like some of the Bears, I kinda napped through part of the game but from what I saw Houston looked pretty decent. Texan's D-line looked pretty good, Clowney was a menace a few plays and they seemed to get a big push in the middle even though Watt until the end was kind held in check. Cutler gets some time, he seems to do ok. Bears could be middling, they don't look as terrible as a couple years ago.

Indy's D isn't that hot as they got little pass rush and they were down to like 5 DBs by the end of the game. Got to figure even as a low key guy, Caldwell probably enjoyed winning. Colt's had a couple TEs that were new to me looked pretty good. Detroit looked a bit more talented to me, but both clubs are probably pretty middling. That RB for the Lions played pretty well.

well...josh mccown was not really the reason the browns didn't win games last season. so the situation is bad but that's because it was already bad.

yes but RGIII had like a 5% shot at maybe resembling what he was that one year in Washington while John McCown is 100% Josh McCown

schwantz, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 04:57 (seven years ago) link

Could the Niners possibly be good, or are the Rams really that bad?

schwantz, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 05:21 (seven years ago) link

case keenum is a septic tank of a qb with no one to throw to anyway. the niners defense played like they knew it and worse the rams offense played like they knew it. it's going to be impossible for them to move the ball when the defense knows it only has to defend 10 yards from the LOS. niners offense seems like it is probably bad also but they played a conservative game vs a good defense and were able to score with it.

http://deadspin.com/trent-dilfer-should-consider-sitting-this-one-out-1786605611

Dilfer appeared on radio station KNBR on Tuesday to clarify his comments. He said he had prepared all week to refine his Countdown takes in a way that would be thoughtful, but not give in to the “politically correct police.” (His words.) Dilfer believed that too many people focused on the part of his spiel where he said the role of a backup quarterback is to shut up. Then, in a bizarre twist, Dilfer invoked the time when he was a backup on the Seattle Seahawks and kept his mouth shut about child slavery, because he didn’t want to derail the team.

“My wife and I had been introduced to some really disturbing stuff and other social injustices: Childhood slavery in our country. And I’d gone to a couple seminars and presentations where we got really deep in the weeds about this issue. It became a passion of ours to help fight this battle of childhood slavery around the country and I had a very big platform in Seattle and I could have leveraged being a Seattle Seahawk, being an NFL quarterback, done a lot to get that message out there, but I chose not to at the sake of not wanting to disrupt the team and I never want to draw attention to myself, and take it away from Matt, the rest of our team and our preparation to win.”
