i alluded elsewhere keys and gray can get called to fuck.

if you're going to keep using cunt and defending its use, in a thread that's talking about sexism in football, at least explain why?

bobbyhackettscornet (whatever), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Swearing isn't sexist.

onimo, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Speaking as a girlie, I don't find its use in "bad sweary word" or "kicking a ball extremely hard" context particularly sexist or offensive.

ailsa, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

srsly nobody cares about richard keys, even the scum rags aren't going to make a cause celebre out of the world's least memorable tv presenter

the other guy is memorable? i don't want to be a cunt, but honestly you shouldn't watch sky.

nah, gray is not especially memorable but he has a kinda rep as a player and probably some 'roguish charm' to sky viewers i guess xp

richard keys is just not even there

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Gray isn't a 'TV presenter' iirc

I have to say i did enjoy Gray's imaginary player dialogues. Not that he intended them to be funny.

The debate about the C-word has been extensive on ILX and my personal take on it is that the word as used in the UK has become divorced from misogynist invective in the same way that cock or dick as terms of abuse don't really connect to the image of the male member. Obviously in a private discourse with somebody who was offended by the use of the word I would avoid using it, but an internet message board is a different level of discourse in which the potential for offence is so limitless that a blanket avoidance of potentially offensive language is not possible.

In these cases we have agreed that only blatant hate speech is to be forbidden, which is why this board would not welcome, say, Jack Straw, to name one famous racist cunt.

surprising how buffon, baros and aaron hunt arent our 3 favourite current players

supply 'n d-man (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 08:11 (thirteen years ago) link

This is the 21st century, for heaven’s sake. As long as they are not distracting the male players with their come-hither smiles and intoxicating musk, or suffering their mood-altering “monthly business”, then what is the problem?

[...]

Gray and Keys’s crime was not to be sexist, but to be sexist towards women. Worse still, they foolishly chose to target not the entire gender but a blameless individual with a name, a heart, a face and a soul. Not to mention rather lovely legs.

lol that's such a 'regional paper' column I could well believe it to be a parody

I do not claim to be a broadcasting expert (as you can hear for yourself when I cover the Pete Price Show on Radio City 96.7, all next week)

how did u find that allardyce clip....it had like 300 views on youtube

if the press are going to run and run with the misoj in football theme then i could see attn being drawn to that

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 12:37 (thirteen years ago) link

might be worth emailing to a few news providers idk, he is actually sexually humiliating an irl person in a manner p similar to that which did for gray

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 12:39 (thirteen years ago) link

RT @hofflimits: I heard a female Assistant Referee is going to explain the Equality Act to Andy Gray and Richard keys using condiments on the kitchen table.

Good work

Cars and Freedom (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 12:45 (thirteen years ago) link

That "would you smash it?" thing is just cringeworthy, Keysey butting into the conversation in a desperate attempt to be one of the lads. I like Gullit fixating intently on his Blackberry rather than acknowledging him.

I think "would smash" is probably dead as a meme.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 12:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Where's the Allardyce clip again?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 12:54 (thirteen years ago) link

good luck with that.

i wasn't there for the birth of ws but i thought it was always supposed to go with how creepy and dommy p the thread intention was? keysy fits right in with whoever it was this morning going "oh noes! her skin has a slight mark! ew!"

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:31 (thirteen years ago) link

I wonder if the "smash it"/"hanging out the back of it" thing will come up, guessing not.

onimo, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Keys is the oldest person i've ever heard say 'smash it' - picked it up from the runner?

idgi fridays (blueski), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:37 (thirteen years ago) link

this is great

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:40 (thirteen years ago) link

he actually tried to twist it around to blaming brady for not taking his calls

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:41 (thirteen years ago) link

hawksbee and jacobs oozing subtle disdain for him

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:42 (thirteen years ago) link

also apparently it's not the time to have the discussion about the appropriateness of sexist banter, even thoughe he says he's apologised for it several times

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:44 (thirteen years ago) link

"political correctness gone maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!"

The referee was perfect (Chris), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 13:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i pray hawksbee does not think that himself, though i distrust him since harry hill's i wanna baby single

this is getting very awkward isn't it.

The referee was perfect (Chris), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 14:33 (thirteen years ago) link

he's very very defensive, and not mortified about what he said at all.

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 14:36 (thirteen years ago) link

what a curious interview

zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

he's mortified about what's been made about it and that he was caught. the repeated 'im very sorry, not for myself, but for others' is absolutely head achign in its insincerity.

henri grenouille (Frogman Henry), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

i feel like he kind of turned it around by the end, the stuff about behavior that needs reconstructing and stuff like that. i don't feel like he's insincere because i kind of believe he wants to resign in protest at andy grey being sacked, & is too conceited want to keep his job at all cost

zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 14:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Keys granting his interview to the official radio voice of white van man is a clever move on his part, he knows he's talking to an audiencce of people who basically agree with him.
