as for modern strips, can vouch for the quality/veracity of shirts from this site

xp I was going to tell my story about having bought mine at La Bombonera and then getting home and wearing it out to the shops on my first day back, and literally the first guy I bumped into was wearing a River shirt. But I checked incase I'd told it before and it turned out I had - um, to you last close season.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 25 March 2011 20:35 (thirteen years ago) link

haha, yeah i remember that now!

The two proper-proper (i.e. not TOFFS) shirts I have are both Saints ones - one from the most recent relegation season (i.e. the one that might as well be an Exeter shirt) and our current one (i.e. the loveliest thing in English football right now), as modelled by Jose Fuckin' Fonte:

Only really got one in the want column - Angola's from the last African Cup of Nations.

http://soccerdistrict.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/angola2010jersey.jpg

What I'd really like is the body to carry off wearing that shirt, though. But apparently that doesn't happen by itself, so.

Ismael xpost - my favourite Inter away with the massive St George's cross on it.

I used to have one of these! It was my FAVOURITE KIT. And then I stopped being able to wear clothes I owned when I was 10. ;_;

I currently only have this season's Arsenal away kit. No name on the back. When I was younger I had- Arsenal gk kit with the stars on it with Seaman 1 on the back, Arsenal away from the same year 94/95 w/ Wright 8, that Inter kit, a PSG home shirt with that cool Opel sponser w/ the lightning strike, a p sweet Italian away kit when it was all white...

Currently want- an Ajax one, from any time really; a Fiorentina Batitstuta or Baggio one; will get Fabregas 4 next season for his last at Arsenal; a Baresi 6 Milan shirt; I like the Udinese one with the lines all pushed in together; an Argentina away with Messi 10 etc. etc.

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 28 March 2011 08:14 (thirteen years ago) link

is there a site where you can order classic shirts that aren't ridiculously expensive? toffs i guess is ok for stuff from before i was born but i'm talking post-sponsers stuff they won't do.

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 28 March 2011 08:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I had the same Arsenal GK kit, Sam. Currently have old shirts for Flamengo, Columbia and a LS Arsenal home kit from the 94/95 season - first year I went to a game - that a friend found for me in a charity shop in Brighton.

This is the first, and still my favourite, that I ever owned: http://www.arsenal-il.com/pic/shorts/away94-95.gif

btw there are rumours that the next away kit will be like that!

Nult AGL (a hoy hoy), Monday, 28 March 2011 09:06 (thirteen years ago) link

I liked the '94-'95 home kit, it's got a bad rep. Though how they messed up "red shirt, white sleeves" I dunno. The sleeves are meant to be entirely white, not just the front/top ffs.

That looks a little like one of those bodypaint ones that they always get some lassie to do before cup finals.

ailsa, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 12:42 (thirteen years ago) link

love the frenchiness of the new france shirts. hope one of the players has the good taste to tie a red bandana around their neck while warming up.

Eh, prefer their black away. I recently acquired the Inter away shirt with the dragon running up the left side, it's o.t.t. but I still like it.

Wow, so many great shirts in here. I only own one shirt, but I have to say I really like wearing it when I play 5-a-side cos it always gets weird looks from folks who have no idea what club it is and are boggled by the sponsor :

Really like the Pumas shirt too, but not the one shown upthread, this one :

thank you based soccertriads

I also got the French home & away today. They are lovely.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 9 June 2011 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

Even though I do like the look of the new France home, every time I see it i feel like it shouldn't be a football shirt but a rugby shirt maybe.

Jibe, Thursday, 9 June 2011 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

It doesn't feel like a sports shirt at all, just like the best t-shirt ever. No way will I be sullying it with exercise.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 9 June 2011 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

No way will I be sullying it with exercise.

Neither do the French players !

Jibe, Thursday, 9 June 2011 22:04 (twelve years ago) link

it looks like the same weirdly soft tshirty material as the last couple of england kits

caek, Thursday, 9 June 2011 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

can't wear those (or the last rangers kit which was a similar material) for obvious reasons

princess timtam (cozen), Thursday, 9 June 2011 22:16 (twelve years ago) link

I hope Croatia's designers are on dis ting too

Most of the shirts on this thread that people seem inordinately proud of look pretty horrible, tbh.

the top is yellower in other pictures.

but you need the pink shorts and yellow socks for the full effect

koogs, Thursday, 5 March 2020 21:39 (four years ago) link

In a Rugby pub last autumn- I mean a pub in Rugby, Warwickshire- some old coot turned to me and said how fugly that Man City third kit is. Getting a grunt of agreement from me, he then added "that kit, it wants taking out and shooting"

ten months pass...

Many soccer clubs began thinking of themselves as quasi-lifestyle brands some time ago. Paris Saint-Germain aspires to becoming a purveyor of fashion. So does Juventus. But a slew of American teams playing in the minor leagues or even in amateur circuits, like Providence City, Forward Madison and the Kingston Stockade, have hurried past building a global soccer juggernaut and skipped ahead to the fashion part.

Whereas PSG and its fellow powerhouses see streetwear as an avenue to tap into new markets—namely the non-fans—and eke out a little more revenue, some savvy American clubs have made the merchandising business central to their model. It’s the jerseys that makes the soccer possible, rather than the other way around.
