If you disregard the occasion, it is one of the best goals ever
― Number None, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:14 (eleven years ago) link
yeah well that's why maradona v england is 10x better than messi v getafe, but even abstracted from context it's not THAT amazing
taison v whoever the other day was more technically difficult
i mean we should be able to appreciate zlatan applying a sublime fourth goal coup de grace to hart and shawx without elevating it to the pantheon
― NAMES A CUNTZ FAE RENFRA (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:20 (eleven years ago) link
There's plenty of room in my personal pantheon. This goal goes on the "holy shit, i've never seen anyone do that before" plinth
― Number None, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:28 (eleven years ago) link
It's amazing cos I've never seen anyone score that exact goal before. Taison goal has been done many a time whether it's 'technically' more difficult or whatever.

clearly we need to get more stupid rushing goalkeepers like hart and pyatov and this will become a more regular occurence
― NAMES A CUNTZ FAE RENFRA (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:30 (eleven years ago) link
are you joking? Stupid rushing goalkeepers are practical at epidemic proportions.
― pandemic, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:31 (eleven years ago) link
practically
Remember when Neuer tried this for Schalke v Inter, connected cleanly and headed the ball past halfway, and still saw it volleyed over his head by Stankovic? Love that goal.
― boxall, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:33 (eleven years ago) link
yeah that was a great goal
― NAMES A CUNTZ FAE RENFRA (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:34 (eleven years ago) link
oh yes, about 1 min into the match iirc
― pandemic, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:34 (eleven years ago) link
I have to correct myself, it wasn't quite to midfield. Clearly I haven't watched it enough recently.
0:25, yes!
― boxall, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:35 (eleven years ago) link
i mean yeah this is awesome but just not near BEST EVER
id guess a high proportion of these sort of freakish goals occur in the first or last minutes of games, before an equilibrium is found and when the game degenerates into ramdomness
did you actually watch the game tho? id guess that if you did it would explain the ~unexpectedness~ not really applying to those who had already seen it described

kuyty on a mission (pandemic) wrote this on thread Taking advantage of Young Boys: Champions League & Europa League 2010/11 on board I Love Football on Apr 6, 2011
Schalke line up had 3 or 4 19 year olds in it and they still pwnd Inter. Guess that team does need rebuilding after all. Nice to see Raul being Raul. Schalke have been desperate this season, still bottom 1/3 in Bundesliga I think, but when he can be bothered Farfan is a heck of a player.
Recorded both games last night and decided to watch first ten mins of Inter/Schalke before I left for work at 2am this morning, my loud cry of "HOLY FUCK!" when Stankovic scored after 25 secs may lead to recriminations when the rest of my household arrives home from work later. But if ever a goal was worthy of the term it was that one.
― pandemic, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 23:40 (eleven years ago) link
Actually i've just watched it again and from the angle behind the goal you can clearly see that he's shinned it. Oh well

this is probably true yeah
goalkeepers now are supposed to be reasonably athletic and competent at normal fitba skills
you'd never have seen neville southall trying to execute a diving headed clearance outside of his own area

LITMANEN WHOOHOO LITMANEN WOOHOOO. You fools! :) He's a god, Ajax immediatly improved a 100% with all his clever passes and forcing his team mates to play one-touch footie. Suddenly even our problem child Ibrahimovic is connecting and scoring goals too.
Real Madrid. Even as a fan I was sort of shocked by the cold efficiency with which they killed off Roma. Cold but always with a sense of beauty of course. The last 10 minutes reminded me a lot of the way Ajax around 1972 would freeze games just by passing into infinity.

Zlatan has scored more bewildering and unlikely goals than that one. Shame I didn't watch tonight. He seems to be doing v. well in France too. I guess being a lazy and arrogant bugger won't see him change much in his 30s.

Mido 0.23 goals / game in top 5 leagues, Ibra 0.57 and ever rising, I guess that's "a level."

Speaking of their time together at Dutch club Ajax between 2001 and 2003, Ibrahimovic, who now plays for AC Milan in Italy, said: “Mido, my friend, publicly declared that he wanted to be sold. Not especially tactical, in all honesty, he wasn't exactly a diplomat, he was like me but even worse.
“Later, when he had been on the bench against Eindhoven, he came into the changing room and called us all lousy.”
Ibrahimovic said the pair argued before the row turned physical.
“He grabbed a pair of scissors which were lying on a bench there and threw them at me. It was completely mad, to be honest.
“The scissors swooshed past my head, straight into the locker room wall and hit with a crack and, of course, I stood up and gave him a punch, a bang.
“But after ten minutes we went out, arm in arm, and a long time later I found out that our team manager had saved those scissors as a memory, kind of like something to show to the children, that this was the one that Zlatan almost got in his face.”

Fools. The rule is: if you watch the clip and you can't see where the goal is coming from, it goes in the pantheon.

"If we don't succeed in being No1, I'd be more than happy to go into the play-offs," he said. "The important thing is we get one of those two positions. The group we are in was quite underestimated but that is often the case."
There's not a word here that isn't true, but you can't help wondering whether somebody else might fancy doing this bit of the job. Fortunately nobody's listening to him atm.

I think it's more down to Rio being so fragile that he's unwilling to risk his last chance at an FA Cup medal.

On the surface of it, expressing historic resentment towards an organisation that killed civilians and soldiers in the UK could hardly be construed as a breach of section five of the Public Order Act. Or indeed "offensive" in any meaningful sense of the word.
