On the surface of it, expressing historic resentment towards an organisation that killed civilians and soldiers in the UK could hardly be construed as a breach of section five of the Public Order Act. Or indeed "offensive" in any meaningful sense of the word.
hmmm

I'm kind of amazed at that piece, I don't think the writer means any harm but surely they're walking into a total firestorm with that sentence which just jumps off the page.

This article is the biggest load of shit ever. Outrage, letting the nation down - I can't even pick a quote, I'd have to quote the whole thing. Looks like we're back to business as usual.

One of his most recent pronouncements on his Twitter feed was to tell some critic: “bore of u mug”.
Uhhh
― Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 17:35 (eleven years ago) link
captaincy outrage is by far the best kind. the only comparable thing i can think of that would be even more pompous and false would be ripping on the selection of a team mascot who hasn't even finished his homework.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 17:39 (eleven years ago) link
The outrage at Cole is almost an afterthought though - he's already frothing with rage just about the choreography.

Find it extremely difficult to articulate the feelings of hopelessness and horror that watching England gives me. There's nothing quite like it

Ah, fucking this off. I'd rather watch more of the new AD tbh, and I've not been enjoying that much at all. Watching England = like reading a pulpy Stephen King / Goosebumps tale with the kernel of a fantastic and effective idea for a horror story at its heart; somewhere between a vague yet still completely recognisable sensation of insidious, grasping existential horror that this is actually happening in the world and, idk, the Cuckoo Clock of Doom / Groundhog Day device. And the story's being written by a buffoon who can't do dialogue and keeps using the same plot over and over again. And there's not been a twist for about 10 fucking years.
― Windsor Davies, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

Danny Mills at Wembley, BBC Radio 5 live"The game has gone a bit stale and predictable. England need that attacking midfield player to open things up, but this is where they lack the inventiveness of a Jack Wilshere. I suppose the questions is can Wayne Rooney play that role for England?"
You'd be as well asking him to play Hamlet. Does Danny Mills get paid for this?
