Fucking hell, that's outrageous. Of the only £5M that really matters, he gets £3M back straight away for the previous loan. The best plan would then be to force a 1 season Sports Direct shirt sponsorship through for season 17/18 of say, £4M which the board would undoubtedly accept - that would be £3M back to Ashley putting him in credit without having done anything and with security of everything and the entire loan in addition. Well played big man.

Don't they use that crest all the time?

there can be only (onimo), Thursday, 29 January 2015 00:29 (nine years ago) link

Oh, they do. I had it in my head they had an actual badgey type badge.

ailsa, Thursday, 29 January 2015 00:50 (nine years ago) link

That's the original crest. The other one is more badgey - the lion on a football with Rangers Football Club round the top - but it's pretty recent relatively speaking. As far as I know they use them interchangeably.

everything, Thursday, 29 January 2015 01:09 (nine years ago) link

Does Ashley own one or both of them? Looks like they've had the lion one on the rest of their programmes this season.

ailsa, Thursday, 29 January 2015 01:18 (nine years ago) link

I thought he had image rights to that crest rather than the lion circle "aye ready" badge but I might be mistaken.

I wonder who owns the five stars.

Do you work with Keith Jackson?

Keith Jackson of "Motherwell-born billionaire with wealth off the radar" fame has never been great at counting money.

is it even worth watching this game today

gbx, Sunday, 1 February 2015 13:17 (nine years ago) link

I hope you didn't. Utterly mince. Horrible pitch, awful refereeing, lower league team in "not being very good" non-shocker.

ailsa, Sunday, 1 February 2015 15:31 (nine years ago) link

Lazy stuff from Celtic in 2nd half too.

A trumpet growing in a garden (Tom D.), Sunday, 1 February 2015 15:46 (nine years ago) link

to be fair, when you're getting free kicks against you for feck all and you're trying to pass the ball across a divot-strewn midden, I wouldn't bother my arse trying much either. Especially when it was blatantly obvious how pish the opposition were.

ailsa, Sunday, 1 February 2015 15:50 (nine years ago) link

Still, we're all missing it, right? Right?

So did Celtic.

to be fair, doesn't require getting much out of first gear to get past that mob these days.

Oh yeah, it's not like 'they could have won that in their sleep' they did[.

So, Kenny McDowell now admitting that Llambias and Easdale are picking his team for him. He doesn't look terribly comfortable in his press conference, I must say. Also, looks desperately in need of a pair of bollocks when a board member starts interfering in his job. Presumably just trying to hasten his progression to gardening leave.

ailsa, Thursday, 5 February 2015 18:15 (nine years ago) link

In fact, STV News just saying the board have released a statement saying that McDowall is talking shite. More to come, hopefully time for me to go and grab some popcorn.

In how many businesses do managers not follow boardroom instructions? I admire Kenny's loyalty to his employers.

I'd be interested in finding out how many times Jason Denayer has been fit but not selected. Once, maybe? (I appreciate his competition is Effin' Ambrose but still)

Is it unreasonable for a Top League In The World team to expect their players to get guaranteed match time when they're sent on loan with the objective of getting match time to develop their careers?

He's employed as the football guy. I'd like to think if I was employed to show my expertise in an area that I'd be allowed to perform my role without guys who don't have my experience deciding they know better. Why would they have hired me otherwise?

I think it's unreasonable to demand automatic inclusion, yes. Part and parcel of developing as a player is realising you need to keep performing at a certain level to keep your place.

ailsa, Saturday, 7 February 2015 15:57 (nine years ago) link

my support of the board's handling of McDowell and the team may not be based on what's best for the team...

Only 2 out of 3 available from the toon 5 started (and one of them subbed off injured).

So did McDowell lie re team selection?

ailsa, Sunday, 8 February 2015 18:17 (nine years ago) link

Must be 10 minutes since we had a new episode in the saga.

Rangers say they have been forced to search for an alternative venue in London ahead of their extraordinary general meeting on 4 March.
The club has blamed "complaints and false information" that led the Millennium Gloucester Hotel to fear "disruption to guests and neighbours".
Rangers stated that: "The board apologises for any inconvenience."

Venue #3 now being sought - presumably "anywhere but Ibrox" is the current selection criterion.

Pretty sure we've all seen this on Twitter or Facebook by now, but anyway: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/11354357/live-football-tv-this-week.html

Friday February 27
Falkirk v Rangers (19.45), Scottish Championship, BT Sport 1 VM 547 / 549 HD, 19.30

Our weekly chance to check on what chaotic nonsense has befallen Rangers and what havoc Mike Ashley has managed to wreak north of the border in the last seven days carries us to a Friday night in Falkirk. Inevitably all the coverage, and most of the crowd, will be interested in the UK's most farcical club (settle down fans of Leeds and QPR, you've got nothing on these guys) but spare a thought for Falkirk who used to yo-yo up and down out of this league quite a bit before they suddenly found Hearts, Hibs and Billy Smart's Travelling Circus joining them at the second tier.

Currently fifth, Falkirk have a great chance to claim a famous win here given how abysmally Rangers are playing football, conducting their business, treating their wives, tending to their gardens, behaving on the way home from the pub and everything else besides.
