is he even good?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 16 July 2017 18:24 (six years ago) link

He's ok, but not 50m ok

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 16 July 2017 18:27 (six years ago) link

he's like a young Wayne Rooney

with about an eight of the talent and a significantly lower footballing IQ

Number None, Sunday, 16 July 2017 18:35 (six years ago) link

The latter is up for scientists to decide when they dissect both Roo and Ross' brains, but you're not far off.

Most certainly do not see what he'd add to Spurs tbh.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 16 July 2017 18:36 (six years ago) link

that is literally the end for spurs

imago, Sunday, 16 July 2017 18:49 (six years ago) link

I have faith but....this is a very weird one. Poch must really believe he can harness Barkley's talents, I'd be gobsmacked.

Anyway, fazio, njie and bentaleb all sold today.

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Sunday, 16 July 2017 19:15 (six years ago) link

i think poch is good at reigning in impetuous types and we do need an attacking midfielder but please no

ogmor, Sunday, 16 July 2017 21:29 (six years ago) link

Good job Zidane isn't still playing, they'd* run out of abacuses to even quantify him in the current market.

*they as in The motherfucking Man, in all his current guises!

calzino, Sunday, 16 July 2017 22:45 (six years ago) link

Trenchant!

calzino, Sunday, 16 July 2017 22:46 (six years ago) link

Self trenched, what a world

Real ronaldo worth a minor bin Laden at current rates

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Sunday, 16 July 2017 22:52 (six years ago) link

Arnautovic to West Ham for £24m!

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 18 July 2017 20:44 (six years ago) link

Six league goals last season.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Tuesday, 18 July 2017 20:45 (six years ago) link

Hart, Arnautovic and likely Chicharito. Seems they're aiming for "proven" but shopping in the damaged goods aisle

Number None, Tuesday, 18 July 2017 20:49 (six years ago) link

That's a lot of money for Arnautovic.

Pretty consistent rumors that PSG are willing to pay the transfer clause of 222m for Neymar, and that he'd be up for it. It's probably not going to happen is it?

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 18 July 2017 21:15 (six years ago) link

We got a player in Mounie, who scored 15 in a struggling Montpelier side, and helped them win a relegation battle, his aerial prowess was statistically the best (or 2nd best- i cant remember) in all of Europe last season. For less than half that price. And he chose us over West Ham who were also in for him [sorry, tedious and smug brag post here].

calzino, Tuesday, 18 July 2017 21:31 (six years ago) link

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley wants £150,000 a week to join Tottenham

lol

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 05:38 (six years ago) link

xxposts
yeah the Neymar rumour has gone crazy in Paris since... yesterday !
now apparently he has told his brasilian friends in PSG that he's coming...
the whole thing seems dubious though, especially after the fiasco of last year's negotiations but I think both ways are fine with me : either he's coming, whatever the price (not my money !) and that's great cos he would be perfect for Paris or he's not and he's only doing the same thing as last year to get even more money from FCB and I'm glad that annoys Barca after all their nonsense regarding Verratti (and THAT remuntada too...).

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 10:25 (six years ago) link

and the other good thing about this rumour is that could help in the negotiations with Sanchez since that would be the same position.

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 10:26 (six years ago) link

That Arno transfer suggests that either scouting networks are complete shit these days, or even middle-ranking clubs like Stoke are so flush that they don't need to sell except for crazy money. Or both.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:16 (six years ago) link

Arnautovic ain't been bad for Stoke.

It's merely a lithmus test of value for buying from an epl club this summer.

ie dont

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:19 (six years ago) link

Yeah he's been a good player for them and has been excellent in a few games, but Stoke have better attacking players than West Ham which will limit his impact.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:33 (six years ago) link

But he therefore improves west ham, tbf

Again, it's only the nuts fee that raises an eyebrow I think

And I mean, it's no walker

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:40 (six years ago) link

Nuts fee and that, though he seems to have mellowed a bit, he's still a liability when it comes to shenanigans etc. But that might as well 'improve' WHU.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:42 (six years ago) link

Morata to Chelsea confirmed

Would dearly love to know what really went on behind the scenes with this whole situation

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 17:47 (six years ago) link

more than ever we're in a time where the value of a player bought by a prem team is entirely dependent on the set of circumstances and the deal itself, how badly they want the player etc. they're all loaded but discovering money isn't really opening every door for them.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:04 (six years ago) link

Otm. Keïta good case in point as well if rumors are to be believed.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:05 (six years ago) link

Still highly doubt Morata is a good match with Chelsea (couldn't see him do well at ManU either).

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:06 (six years ago) link

Pogba looks like pretty value at this point tbh (although you could argue that transfer was something of a catalyst for the insanity we're seeing this summer)

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:12 (six years ago) link

better to spend almost anything on a great player than 20/30m on some shithead

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:19 (six years ago) link

tho maybe we're now in the era of the 60m shithead

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:19 (six years ago) link

The rumoured fee for Morata is 70m and he's never been first choice for any club he's played for. He's certainly not a shithead, but it's fairly unprecedented

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:24 (six years ago) link

15-20m is a real netherzone at the moment. like even last year jordan ibe for 15m etc.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:26 (six years ago) link

Would get you Kingsley Coman, Ricardo Rodriguez or Britt Assombalonga!

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:30 (six years ago) link

Couldn't even get 10 for Januzaj which says something lol

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:31 (six years ago) link

Bentaleb 16m

Better RB than walker like

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:01 (six years ago) link

Lucas for 5m pretty good. He's only 30, great servant etc

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:06 (six years ago) link

5m is a good price for him, and is a good price to get for him. In many ways it is a price reflective of the man's values rather than his value, an understated fraction of consideration but when you think about it, really worth rather a lot

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:07 (six years ago) link

Kevin Stewart 8m, Lucas Leiva 5m...

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:17 (six years ago) link

Morata is only 24 and if they get 6-8 years out of him (on the assumption he's about to hit his peak) then that's not awful in today's market. But strikes me as the kind of player who's more about intelligent approach play and contribution to the team, whereas in this environment and with that price tag he'll get hammered if he doesn't start scoring goals almost immediately.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:29 (six years ago) link

Otm. He also strikes me as not an asshole, which is to his disadvantage, as being an asshole will always carry you a bit further when playing for Chelsea despite not being great (Lamps, Terry, fucking Costa).

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:31 (six years ago) link

Danilo to City seems like a thing, meaning that City will have spent £76.5m on right-backs this summer.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:38 (six years ago) link

Presumably Pep is going to play one of them at LB? If he tries that with Walker even once then that's a sacking offence.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:49 (six years ago) link

lest ye forget kdb at full back last year

nxd, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:50 (six years ago) link

What price morata

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:54 (six years ago) link

Hearing Chicarito to West Ham for abt 15m, from Leverkusen.

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 20 July 2017 10:12 (six years ago) link

This was back in February. Our net spend is negative now

Villa going for some kind of hughesian ideal

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 July 2017 10:57 (six years ago) link

Supposedly Pep reckons Danilo can play in midfield too (course he does)

They're still in for Mendy as well

Number None, Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:08 (six years ago) link

looking forward to pep getting sacked next season

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:15 (six years ago) link

come on, admit it
