and the other good thing about this rumour is that could help in the negotiations with Sanchez since that would be the same position.

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 10:26 (six years ago) link

That Arno transfer suggests that either scouting networks are complete shit these days, or even middle-ranking clubs like Stoke are so flush that they don't need to sell except for crazy money. Or both.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:16 (six years ago) link

Arnautovic ain't been bad for Stoke.

It's merely a lithmus test of value for buying from an epl club this summer.

ie dont

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:19 (six years ago) link

Yeah he's been a good player for them and has been excellent in a few games, but Stoke have better attacking players than West Ham which will limit his impact.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:33 (six years ago) link

But he therefore improves west ham, tbf

Again, it's only the nuts fee that raises an eyebrow I think

And I mean, it's no walker

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:40 (six years ago) link

Nuts fee and that, though he seems to have mellowed a bit, he's still a liability when it comes to shenanigans etc. But that might as well 'improve' WHU.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 11:42 (six years ago) link

Morata to Chelsea confirmed

Would dearly love to know what really went on behind the scenes with this whole situation

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 17:47 (six years ago) link

more than ever we're in a time where the value of a player bought by a prem team is entirely dependent on the set of circumstances and the deal itself, how badly they want the player etc. they're all loaded but discovering money isn't really opening every door for them.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:04 (six years ago) link

Otm. Keïta good case in point as well if rumors are to be believed.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:05 (six years ago) link

Still highly doubt Morata is a good match with Chelsea (couldn't see him do well at ManU either).

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:06 (six years ago) link

Pogba looks like pretty value at this point tbh (although you could argue that transfer was something of a catalyst for the insanity we're seeing this summer)

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:12 (six years ago) link

better to spend almost anything on a great player than 20/30m on some shithead

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:19 (six years ago) link

tho maybe we're now in the era of the 60m shithead

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:19 (six years ago) link

The rumoured fee for Morata is 70m and he's never been first choice for any club he's played for. He's certainly not a shithead, but it's fairly unprecedented

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:24 (six years ago) link

15-20m is a real netherzone at the moment. like even last year jordan ibe for 15m etc.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:26 (six years ago) link

Would get you Kingsley Coman, Ricardo Rodriguez or Britt Assombalonga!

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:30 (six years ago) link

Couldn't even get 10 for Januzaj which says something lol

Number None, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:31 (six years ago) link

Bentaleb 16m

Better RB than walker like

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:01 (six years ago) link

Lucas for 5m pretty good. He's only 30, great servant etc

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:06 (six years ago) link

5m is a good price for him, and is a good price to get for him. In many ways it is a price reflective of the man's values rather than his value, an understated fraction of consideration but when you think about it, really worth rather a lot

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:07 (six years ago) link

Kevin Stewart 8m, Lucas Leiva 5m...

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 21:17 (six years ago) link

Morata is only 24 and if they get 6-8 years out of him (on the assumption he's about to hit his peak) then that's not awful in today's market. But strikes me as the kind of player who's more about intelligent approach play and contribution to the team, whereas in this environment and with that price tag he'll get hammered if he doesn't start scoring goals almost immediately.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:29 (six years ago) link

Otm. He also strikes me as not an asshole, which is to his disadvantage, as being an asshole will always carry you a bit further when playing for Chelsea despite not being great (Lamps, Terry, fucking Costa).

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:31 (six years ago) link

Danilo to City seems like a thing, meaning that City will have spent £76.5m on right-backs this summer.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:38 (six years ago) link

Presumably Pep is going to play one of them at LB? If he tries that with Walker even once then that's a sacking offence.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:49 (six years ago) link

lest ye forget kdb at full back last year

nxd, Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:50 (six years ago) link

What price morata

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 July 2017 09:54 (six years ago) link

Hearing Chicarito to West Ham for abt 15m, from Leverkusen.

Villa going for some kind of hughesian ideal

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 July 2017 10:57 (six years ago) link

Supposedly Pep reckons Danilo can play in midfield too (course he does)

They're still in for Mendy as well

Number None, Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:08 (six years ago) link

looking forward to pep getting sacked next season

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:15 (six years ago) link

come on, admit it

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:15 (six years ago) link

They bought six players last season of whom you can only say Jesus and Sane were a success, and they could be buying 6-7 this year for 300m odd. He's not exactly looking like the coaching genius of lore

Number None, Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:22 (six years ago) link

the goalkeeper stuff is ridiculous.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:23 (six years ago) link

Tend to agree

Think he is a great coach but could not have put himself in a less suitable context.

He seems to be bad at buying the right players.

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:52 (six years ago) link

Brucey knows the Championship, knows you need players who can do it on a freezing Tuesday night in Barnsley, knows you need fans who don't mind being bored shitless

over-the-counter sexual-harassment products (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 20 July 2017 13:11 (six years ago) link

He seems to be bad at buying the right players.

You mean the right players for City, right, because this is complete insanity otherwise.

They bought six players last season of whom you can only say Jesus and Sane were a success

Gabriel Jesus has made 10 appearances, he could still be in his Robinho phase for all we know. You might as well include Gundogan in there who has been similarly unlucky with injuries. Bernardo Silva looks an excellent signing, but no new CB means no title however well anyone else does.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 July 2017 13:24 (six years ago) link

Yeah it's all covered by the 'in this context' bracket there, the city project seems to be impeding his usual effectiveness

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Thursday, 20 July 2017 13:25 (six years ago) link

You mean the right players for City, right, because this is complete insanity otherwise.

is it? The best players at both his previous teams weren't his signings. He bought loads of flops for Barca. He had a few good signings for Bayern (Thiago and Vidal most notably) but you can't really argue that he improved on what was already there

Swansea are going to bid £10 m for Billing. Oddly for such a quality prospect he hasn't made much of an impact so far. Mainly because of Mooy's awesomeness and injury problems tho. Wagner has previously said he has the most potential he has ever seen in one of his own players. He showed it against Man City as well, he seems to totally shine in high tempo prem style games against quality opposition with less time on the ball, than he does against lower league riff-raff like Leeds or Wednesday. They ought to say £20m or get fucked imo.

calzino, Friday, 21 July 2017 12:54 (six years ago) link

As someone one the lookout for fantasy league deep cuts which Huddersfield players do you reckon will make an impact this season?

Matt DC, Friday, 21 July 2017 13:02 (six years ago) link

Mooy was our consistently best player last season, and even when he was completely drained after travelling to southern hemisphere international games he was still delivering (hence his extended break this summer). He is the best player I have ever seen playing for Town in the flesh. A quality driving force of a midfield player. The £8m and add ons we paid is a bargain for sure.

calzino, Friday, 21 July 2017 13:19 (six years ago) link

If he gets back from injury right-back Tommy Smith could be a good under the radar deep-cut.

Center back Schindler is so solid and has a great football brain, if a bit one-paced. But he has this Germanic (never less than a 7.5 consistency) to him.
