Swansea are going to bid £10 m for Billing. Oddly for such a quality prospect he hasn't made much of an impact so far. Mainly because of Mooy's awesomeness and injury problems tho. Wagner has previously said he has the most potential he has ever seen in one of his own players. He showed it against Man City as well, he seems to totally shine in high tempo prem style games against quality opposition with less time on the ball, than he does against lower league riff-raff like Leeds or Wednesday. They ought to say £20m or get fucked imo.

calzino, Friday, 21 July 2017 12:54 (six years ago) link

As someone one the lookout for fantasy league deep cuts which Huddersfield players do you reckon will make an impact this season?

Matt DC, Friday, 21 July 2017 13:02 (six years ago) link

Mooy was our consistently best player last season, and even when he was completely drained after travelling to southern hemisphere international games he was still delivering (hence his extended break this summer). He is the best player I have ever seen playing for Town in the flesh. A quality driving force of a midfield player. The £8m and add ons we paid is a bargain for sure.

calzino, Friday, 21 July 2017 13:19 (six years ago) link

If he gets back from injury right-back Tommy Smith could be a good under the radar deep-cut.

Center back Schindler is so solid and has a great football brain, if a bit one-paced. But he has this Germanic (never less than a 7.5 consistency) to him.

There is a downside to life in the premiership though:p

in a shockingly unprecedented move we're signing a Portuguese lad who's represented by Gestifute

According to Marca, Real Madrid has agreed a 180m fee for Mbappé.

I know it sounds like a lot of money, but when you realize it's about six Arnautovices that puts it into perspective again.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 11:05 (six years ago) link

Euros or pounds

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 11:54 (six years ago) link

Also is it what real ronaldo would be worth at 18 today

If so, then it's a valid fee

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 11:55 (six years ago) link

€€€

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 11:58 (six years ago) link

Ronaldo went for a world record £13.2m fee in 1996. The previous record holder, Lentini, went for £13m four years previously. The current record free is £89m for Paul Pogba one year ago.

When Ronaldo went to Barcelona he'd scored 50 something goals in around the same number of games for PSV, as well as tearing it up for Cruizeiro. Mbappe has scored 16 goals in 40 games for Monaco

Number None, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 12:20 (six years ago) link

Sorry, Mbappe stat was league only. It's 27 in 58

Ronaldo scored 44 in 47 for Cruizeiro

Number None, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 12:24 (six years ago) link

Yep, Ronaldo made 54 goals in 57 games for PSV. xp

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 12:24 (six years ago) link

Our "bargain buy" man Mounie only scored one less Ligue 1 goal than Mbappe, and this was in a struggling Montpelier side last season. But he possibly isn't a potential global superstar in the making, but you never know! He did a nice Pulisball-style lob the keeper straight from the goal kick against Barnsley on Sunday, that put an extra tenner onto his value.

calzino, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 15:01 (six years ago) link

are huddersfield still favoured by bookies to finish bottom 3? you'd have thought they'd have wised up by now

imago, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 15:18 (six years ago) link

they're odds-on with all bookies to go down, the only team to be so

if i was a betting man i'd put quite a lot on their survival tbh, this is complete madness

imago, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 15:19 (six years ago) link

I don't think Wagner could get a team relegated if he tried. He has an uncanny ability of instilling belief + getting a few extra percent out of players, and then some. No new signings this week, but just as importantly new contracts offered to all the vital promotion squad players, to create wage parity with new mega-bucks in-comings. Wagner has said he hasn't spending finished yet as well.

I haven't been studying the relegation because I don't believe it will happen tbh. But I'm sure someone said we had gone odds against to stay up, might be wrong.

calzino, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 15:42 (six years ago) link

A coupla missing words there!

calzino, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 15:45 (six years ago) link

yeah you're odds-on to go down

burnley, swansea, brighton won't get within ten points of you?

imago, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 15:48 (six years ago) link

*Historical note

*Hans Frank also had an assistant named Bühler

Brighton just signed Izzy Brown on loan from Chelsea. We already have Kasey Palmer on loan, so we had the option to buy him for £8m if we wanted him, and I think the club rightly decided the price was a pisstake. Our 3-1 against Brighton last season flattered the hell out of them, it was a comprehensive fucking. I respect Burnley, and don't fa about Swansea.

calzino, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

Think Swansea will be alright, the manager seems to know what he's doing. One of Palace or Leicester to start the season in a tailspin and never really recover. Would have said Watford on last season's form but Silva makes them much more of an unknown quantity.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 16:13 (six years ago) link

I've missed hoping Newcastle go down last year, so them. Plus Palace/Burnley? Stoke?

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 16:25 (six years ago) link

Mbappe is worth 180m euros idk what else to say.

nice early start to next season's gaslighting as boss of the richest club in the world:

Asked how he assessed his chances of making United champions again, Mourinho said: “I don’t think we are big candidates for the title but we are candidates. Everybody speaks about the dimension of the investment at Man City but there is another team that I feel the dimension of their investment is also phenomenal – Tottenham. Until now they spent zero pounds, right? They keep everybody they want to keep. They keep Dele Alli, Kane and Alderweireld, they keep Eric Dier, they keep everyone they want to keep.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 25 July 2017 22:20 (six years ago) link

We had the same budget as Rotherham last season, so perhaps our manager's lack of gaslighting is the reason he is a good fucking manager. Cos he didn't do any of that type of fucking worthless whinging.

calzino, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 22:52 (six years ago) link

God, I hate the premiership already :p

calzino, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 22:53 (six years ago) link

it can't be gaslighting when it's true

Number None, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 22:56 (six years ago) link

Mourinho is an unprecedented nihilistic force in English football. Him joining ManU is the PL's 9/11. Though in a world where Trump is president of the USA, austerity thrives and West Ham pays 28m for Arnautovic, it seems to make perfect sense. We'll regret it when we're burning in hell tho.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 25 July 2017 23:00 (six years ago) link

Watford, Brighton, Burnley, Stoke, Palace, Swansea(?), West Brom, Newcastle and possibly Leicester could all be in the mix to go down.

Huddersfield 2000-1 to win it is probably a better bet.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 08:42 (six years ago) link

Always better wasting a quid on a longshot, than putting a grands onto a bad odds-on bet, I say. Never forget the punter who tried to buy some money with 50 grand on Man Utd at h/t when they were 3-0 up against Spurs, and they lost 4-3.

calzino, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 09:53 (six years ago) link

We're quite good at blowing 3-0 HT leads. We also managed to do it against a Man City side reduced to 10 men at the stroke of HT.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 09:58 (six years ago) link

We once squandered a 5-1 lead against 10 men with 29 minutes to go, and lost 7-6. And that was with the great Shankly in charge!

And I was in Paris at the time whereas we were three up against united as I entered the no-phone zone of my grandmother's funeral
