So where are we all going then? I'm off to Dulwich Hamlet v Hampton and Richmond, which is also a 'pay as much as you want day'.

if I'm not required to play football or cricket I might accompany my friend to AFC Hornchurch vs Margate (he doesn't know this yet)

two weeks pass...

so I contributed to my friend's season-long non-league blog: http://seasonsinnonleague.wordpress.com/2014/09/21/down-in-dulwich-or-sous-le-terrain-le-controleur-de-larbitre-magnetique/

in which dulwich hamlet get deconstructed

imago, Sunday, 21 September 2014 11:44 (nine years ago) link

nice

is that london's least real significant nonleague team?

Nothing less than the Spirit of the Age (nakhchivan), Sunday, 21 September 2014 15:06 (nine years ago) link

also u better vote in that damn autechre poll lj la

Nothing less than the Spirit of the Age (nakhchivan), Sunday, 21 September 2014 17:20 (nine years ago) link

o o ok

the ballot will be limited to like 3 albums and some EPs, hope that's ok

dulwich hamlet bring the nonreal particularly hard but I'd have to scout out some other sorts before thus anointing them. barnet are cut from similar cloth iirc

imago, Sunday, 21 September 2014 18:05 (nine years ago) link

nothing wrong with 3 albums and some EPs

barnet are perhaps a bit too glitzy to deserve consideration as true kvlt nonleague, third division regulars until not so long ago, edgar davids, routine preaseason friendly with arsenal

is there a richmond/kew/chiswick area team that draws its support from the otherwise twickers attending bourgeoisie of southwest london?

haha good point

there's also corinthian casuals who probably win the battle for unreality but i don't think play at a high enough level

imago, Sunday, 21 September 2014 20:09 (nine years ago) link

oh they're only one league below dulwich, met police, hampton et al. yeah them

Not Jewish, Hasidic or otherwise. Played (plays?) keyboard in an indie band BUT he introduced me to U-Roy and the fall and we watched the last series of the Shield together so swings and roundabouts.

Also re the phone. He never used to carry a mobile but he had a little notebook that he was always either writing in or reading and he held it in the same way. He has obviously embraced technology. I'll stop talking about him now as I feel a bit bad/creepy

An image that hit every national newspaper in Brazil. Jamie Byatt celebrates his brace in Corinthian-Casuals’ 7-0 win over Redhill. His celebration included lifting his shirt to reveal the crest of Brazillian side SC Corinthians Paulista. The South American team were named in honour of Corinthians back in 1910 and Corinthian-Casuals are a household name in Sao Paulo. In fact, the Ryman league side are touring the country in January 2015, culminating in an historic match between the two clubs in front of 48,000 fans.

A Dulwich Hamlet fan shares his feelings of displeasure with the referee during their 2-1 loss at Kingstonian in the Ryman League Premier Division in January.

There were no songs about anyone's mum being a whore or the opposition 'keeper being gay. The lack of shitty racist, sexist and homophobic "banter" didn't make it a killjoy affair by any stretch. If anything the fans were more inventive with chants than at other grounds, for instance singing "Dulwich Über Alles" to the Dead Kennedys' "California Über Alles". There were further appearances by songs from the Specials, Fleetwood Mac and KRS-One.

^argument for the reintroduction of the millwall brick

I'm never entirely sure of the ILF view on Dulwich, if there is one. Been to a couple of games as one of my oldest friends is a regular/ST holder and they are my "English team" (and I made a horrorshow of an unscheduled appearance for the supporters team once, come to think of it) but I don't go much as Champion Hill is a bit out of the way when you live in Dundee.

michaellambert, Monday, 5 January 2015 23:09 (nine years ago) link

Their supporters team are in for an even bigger horrorshow next month, coz I'm playing against them for a Charlton supporters team.

New favourite Dulwich Hamlet fan, introducing Mr Buckfast.

Flowersdie, Friday, 16 January 2015 16:54 (nine years ago) link

my best friend's christmas was spent at his mum's dorsetshire pied-a-terre, which he modestly describes as 'the cottage'

his mum and her hapless husband were concocting a seasonal pudding, but had not remembered to buy sherry

they apparently cast around desperately before the husband suffered a brainwave and drew attention to a bottle hiding at the back of the larder

the self-same bottle of buckie I had bought experimentally some time ago, as chronicled in ilx's dedicated buckfast thread

it transpired, so my friend claims, that the resulting pudding was significantly nicer than if mere sherry had been used

the relevance this charming bourgie scene of oblivious culinary anathema has to the above picture is perhaps tenuous, but there you are

“Other football clubs say they’re against things, but in many cases it’s just lip service,” Morath says. “We’re not just saying ‘we’re against homophobia,’ we’re trying to welcome gay fans to Dulwich. That sums up the ethos of the club, we try to go that bit further.

“We’ve got a mixture of everyone. The atmosphere is buzzing at games. More and more we have become the talk of non-league football. And reaching out to what people perceive as the non-footballing community can only strengthen us all as a club.”

I can’t stand the foreign mercenaries who are there for the money alone and not for the love of the club they play for. I hate the diving, the cheating, the whinging managers; the rip-off admission and refreshment prices; the compulsory seating, not to mention the constant changing of match dates by Sky TV – which has ruined the game to the detriment of supporters; squad players who get paid stupid amounts for doing nothing. Give me the friendliness, honesty and camaraderie of non-league football anytime. It’s the real thing.
