i think his hair will get less dumb and then dumber than ever and then sort of ok and then kind of stupid

toandos, Thursday, 12 July 2012 06:59 (eleven years ago) link

agreed, but not in that order

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 12 July 2012 08:52 (eleven years ago) link

i look forward to how this thread develops

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 12 July 2012 08:52 (eleven years ago) link

I think he'll be great. Hope he goes to Barcelona or Milan. Santos seem to feel pretty confident of holding on to him for now, though.

boxall, Thursday, 12 July 2012 14:36 (eleven years ago) link

better than robinho, last true new pele

“Yes, I love the kinky fuckery." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:25 (eleven years ago) link

he is really skinny, which will be a problem playing vs champions league defenders and a likely impediment to his the late 20s sybaritic obesity phase

nakhchivan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 18:31 (eleven years ago) link

my guess is he'll probably stay with santos for a couple of more years then move for a silly amount of cash and lead shanghai shenhua to several domestic titles.

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 12 July 2012 18:42 (eleven years ago) link

So much cynicism already.

boxall, Thursday, 12 July 2012 18:44 (eleven years ago) link

boxall, Thursday, 12 July 2012 18:48 (eleven years ago) link

that's the different between the campeonato brasiliero and europe

nakhchivan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

my misgivings about neymar are more to do with him occupying the god-in-the-mountains space in brazilian football lore, the lack of really first class brazilian players in almost every position is worrying so close to 2014, so the need to summon up one new new pele/zico/ronaldinho is even greater than usual

nakhchivan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 18:55 (eleven years ago) link

even at the usual positions of strength they are thin on the ground compared even to the best dunga sides (2009 probably)

alves has never really adapted playing for brazil and maicon is getting old, marcelo is very good and should improve but his defensive temperament is suspect

in defensive midfield they have some good players and prospects but nobody really great

pato's injuries are really worrying right now and no other forwards are in that class

thiago silva is the only undisputable world xi player

nakhchivan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:03 (eleven years ago) link

None of those things will stop Neymar from becoming a world XI player though.

boxall, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:06 (eleven years ago) link

I just learned that Pato already has a failed marriage under his belt and is now dating Silvio Berlusconi's daughter

Number None, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:13 (eleven years ago) link

i'd guess that he will peak at probably somewhere between robinho's level in his last season in madrid and cristiano ronaldo's level in his first season at madrid

it's nice that there is at least the possibility he becomes a really great player tho, hence this thread

nakhchivan, Thursday, 12 July 2012 19:16 (eleven years ago) link

i am really intrigued by brazil right now. when was the last time a lot of the exciting players in contention played in brazil? the first brazil team i remember was in '94 and was p euro

is there a sense that this is a generation where the hype of being brazilian doesn't really mean shit? instead of getting like 24m denilsons we are getting guys go to shakthar for 4m to dip their toe in the water or staying at home. has their been a big news brazilian signing since pato? i'm honestly struggling to think of one.

this is probably the most sanguine i have felt about his prospects in europe for a while

there is a gaping goatse sized void on barcelona's left wing veritably crying about for neymar

Take it back about sandro

Looks official now. They aren't releasing any information on the transfer fee.

хуто-хуторянка (ShariVari), Sunday, 26 May 2013 08:44 (ten years ago) link

I feel like there's something comebackish about this, almost - he was the next big thing, then really amazing, then I don't know what he's been up to these last six months. He's like Ronaldinho on fast forward.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 26 May 2013 08:49 (ten years ago) link

More about the stage he has been playing on than his performances, I think. The regional Brazilian leagues don't get a huge amount of coverage. He finished second top scorer though.

хуто-хуторянка (ShariVari), Sunday, 26 May 2013 09:01 (ten years ago) link

his 1st half of the season was not good. santos has the worst team since he moved up to pro's. they are in the conversation for relegation without neymar no doubt.

so, he was playing disinterested as santos wasn't in libertadores. personally i think he will be ok. he needs to stop faking. he's a star in brazil and is dating one of the hottest/famous girls on TV ... no more dancing in celebrations, too. pass the ball faster.

Are you in Brazil?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 27 May 2013 14:21 (ten years ago) link

yes!

moullet, Monday, 27 May 2013 14:52 (ten years ago) link

Tell us more. Do you have a team?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 27 May 2013 15:15 (ten years ago) link

i root for my local team but they're unknown and i don't live in my hometown anymore. vitória fc (futebol clube) doesnt play in brasileirão (série A) since 1977 .. in série B since 85. whenever im in my parents house i see a game or two, but they only play local competition. do not mistake us w (esporte clube) vitória, from salvador, bahia, the club who developed dida, david luiz, hulk, edílson from corinthians, etc.

as the place i lived was near rio, almost all people of my age root for "carioca" teams. flamengo, fluminense, vasco and botafogo were popular. nationally speaking i liked vasco and saw them on rio a couple of times growing up ..

hi guys!

fun fact: neymar is doing a cameo on a telenovela being broadcasted nowadays, pictured here escaping from a girl who wants to be a footballers wife so bad she fools the security

confession: i leapt to the conclusion that vitória fc (futebol clube) was the same as (esporte clube) vitória

not watched enough of barcelona but that seems to be consensus, he was starting to look closer to great before his injury

messi and neymar haven't both been injury free and in good form at the same time
