I Love Home's rolling basic home repair thread

The real heroes of the internet are the electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and construction folks who post amateur instructional videos that show you how to fix basic things around the house. I dream of myself as a star fleet engineer taking on the Apollo 13 episode of This Old Mid-Century dump ("life-support and electrics are finally up to 60% - whooooo break out the bbq and beer!"), but the reality is that some dude in Ohio named Plumber X is showing me how to replace my kitchen faucet.

latest area of home repair research: what to do when a falling tree breaks your sliding glass patio door

my approach so far has been to tape up cardboard and spend a lot of time on the phone

it looks like I'm going to be able to get new glass installed without having to replace the entire door unit (as the insurance estimator and I had initially assumed) ... that might save about $2,000

looking at relevant YouTube videos reinforces my strong desire to have someone else wrangle those six-foot-tall pieces of glass

but last week I replaced two pendant light fixtures with my bare hands, so I'm still pretty pumped about that
