New meercaz seven inch. A-side has a british invasion feel or like a new england garage band ballad feel or something? I haven't pinned it down.

always see her albums in the international section, but assumed would be corny world beat or whatever, but this album is damn near amazing. wonderful songwriting, great production. electronics, beats, fretless bass. weirdly kinda like kate bush.

scott, do you have this? it's pretty cool. white hippies playing freakout east meets west indian rock music. there's a bit of a west coast vibe going on. vocal harmonies. some funky drums. some straight ragas. sometimes sounds like what the byrds coulda become had they not wanted to be cowboys and every song was like 8 miles high. kinda weird. they probably stank real bad

is not the most incredible debut album ever? i think it might be. I could listen to "Bye Bye Love" 10 times in a row and not get tired of it. fantastic stuff

scott seward, Friday, 4 February 2011 20:06 (thirteen years ago) link

xp man is it ever good. a little smoother than the first one, but not too much smoother! still really "24-track loop"-y and mechanical and drony and sounds like the best awesome stoned xerox machine ever

69, Friday, 4 February 2011 22:05 (thirteen years ago) link

^ oh that sounds great. must find. meanwhile:

:(

69, Friday, 4 February 2011 22:44 (thirteen years ago) link

yes it's a bummer. most noticeable on the second lp, the 'ambient' stuff. i ordered it from Merge; i'm going to email them. i mean, i don't even like that 'Bay of Pigs' track, but still.

re: Liliput: i have the 2 lps, and the 7"s, and the Kill Rock Stars 2cd. is there stuff on the 4lp box i don't have?

nerve_pylon, Friday, 4 February 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago) link

same 46 songs

69, Friday, 4 February 2011 22:59 (thirteen years ago) link

might actually need it for DC-10 on vinyl...!

nerve_pylon, Friday, 4 February 2011 23:00 (thirteen years ago) link

ohhh was that unreleased b4 the CDs?

69, Friday, 4 February 2011 23:02 (thirteen years ago) link

ah, Jaxon, that whole Earthquake LP is pretty enjoyable ... did you ever hear the Urgo Overkill version of the same Hot Choc track?

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 5 February 2011 06:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Kleenex/Lilliput box sounds attractive, but i've had the import CD since mid-90s when I worked @ Ajax, and again, just sick of buying stuff twice. Same thing with the Parson Sound box. Nice gesture, but I'll be OK with my CD until my grave, I think .. LPs of somewhat muddy tapes (already digitally mastered) can't offer me that much, sorry

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 5 February 2011 06:41 (thirteen years ago) link

trying to line up vacations, more importantly! (than buying all vinyl) looking at doing New Orleans Jazz Fest for the first time this year ... lotsa nice stuff there this year

Stormy Davis, Saturday, 5 February 2011 06:43 (thirteen years ago) link

oh, and Austin, thinking about Austin in a couple weeks to see Swans (had to miss their CHicago show due to some ridic bullshit)
