Fleetwood Mac - mirage - "that's alright"

v/a - ishilan n-tenere
MS african guitar comp; whoever likes this will like the Sidi Toure record out on, i think, Thrill Jocket.

peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeete, are you coming to the emp thing? where are you? how come there aren't any record stores around ucla. its a hugemongous college. guess everyone goes to amoeba like everyone else. don't know if i will actually get to amoeba. maybe.

scott seward, Thursday, 24 February 2011 22:09 (thirteen years ago) link

the record store i worked at after i graduated from ucla was in westwood. it was called Pennylane. mostly used & new cds, but a few records. and then the owner thought dvds (especially porn), and his weird side business of kitchy postcards made more money so the store quickly went downhill.

jaxon, Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:42 (thirteen years ago) link

also, lol, college kids don't buy cds. NOBODY DOES! they're all downloading off a computah

jaxon, Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:43 (thirteen years ago) link

im flyin down there tonight, but for a friends' wedding (whoa that is a doozy to punctuate). might hit some stores tomorrow early, but TBD -- annie and i have some family hangin to do, too!

i like all the la barbara i've heard, but you gotta be prepared for extended sections of moaning & vocal clicking.

i am incredibly glad there is finally some diane cluck material on LP, nearly ten years too late...

Firewater live from 2000 in Bremen Germany. Dropping Like Flies to be precise.

Before that was Dragonwyck I think the 1970 one that sounds pretty Doorsy. Possibly more garage level though by '70 that's no longer quite as succinct as it had been mid decade. Very good stuff & I might pick up the cds of this and the next recording by them. Think I might need them in physical form.

& before that was a set of Jack Scott's best. Not sure how true that is, seemed to lean more toward pop than stuff like The Way I Walk.
Had seen a set by him in the Sun series or at least Charlie r'n'r since he was from Detroit not Memphis.

& before that a reggae comp of early stuff.

New Age All Around pretty good pretty good, pretty fine.
& yup Patrick Kilroy acoustic guitar raga stylist. Dashed good, shame it wasn't released at the time but he went & died young so there wasn't a band to promote it.

thank you, Merge, for sending me a new, quiet Kaputt.

nerve_pylon, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 00:04 (thirteen years ago) link

i kinda thought my replacement Kaputt would be forgotten in Merge-Grammy-Arcade-Fire madness, but no!

69: do you have AP's Original Rockers lp? crucial! now i need to play it.
