Well, I put that I would ship with insurance, but he paid the max amount Ebay would let me put in, not the amount I put in the listing

But really at that price, I'm not gonna quibble, it's going out with insurance

Yeah I've been on Ebay since '99 if they have any problems with me I'll be slightly annoyed

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

with something like that, i, myself, would spend the extra money and use Fedex and have it sent as fast as possible and hand-delivered.

scott seward, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 23:18 (twelve years ago) link

also for the total sales I had ebay charged me $24 and paypal charged me $11. I know that's not a lot, but still it pissed me off. it's like almost 20% of what all of my records sold for. Granted I'm not a record seller and maybe this is usual, that everyone takes their cut.

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 23:20 (twelve years ago) link

I'm going with special delivery signed for with insurance, that should do it? I could look into a courier but dunno if that's much of an improvement?

OK I'll spend some time tomorrow looking into any pitfalls of special delivery international, must admit I'm sighing some relief it's not going to Italy.

The Eyeball Of Hull (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 23:21 (twelve years ago) link

btw what's a good price to pay for Bob Seger's Brand New Morning? Is it worth paying more than $20? I heard it was his folkie record?

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 23:28 (twelve years ago) link

"I'm going with special delivery signed for with insurance, that should do it?"

Nice going Poo...

Really tempted to flip that Vita Nova i bought yesterday.. but there's already an OG on ebay at the moment (already at 450 pounds!), so maybe i should wait a while...

Talcum Mucker, Thursday, 2 February 2012 05:25 (twelve years ago) link

good call -- id wait like 2 days after that one ends. you can catch all the people who missed the first one. sometimes those follow-ups go for even more!

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Friday, 3 February 2012 02:06 (twelve years ago) link

Nice one.

I did "this" once, showed an album/auction here I was selling before it concluded, sure it was going to sky. Never moved an additional penny.

Mark G, Friday, 3 February 2012 10:13 (twelve years ago) link

that's what happens when you list in USD

pun crock (electricsound), Friday, 3 February 2012 10:14 (twelve years ago) link

that pathetic joke backfired on me

pun crock (electricsound), Friday, 3 February 2012 10:15 (twelve years ago) link

Ah, the first time I was in the USA, I went to McDonalds as you do, the bill came to $3.01, I offered a $5 bill, the assistant asked "Have you got a penny?" I was like "OK I'M ENGLISH YOU GUESSED, WHY YOU WANT TO SEE MY NATIVE CURRENCY??? (Oh, you call a one-cent piece a penny oh I have one, terribly sorry)"

Mark G, Friday, 3 February 2012 10:22 (twelve years ago) link

She was like "I'D NEVER HAVE GUESSED YOU WERE ENGLISH FROM THAT POLITELY AWKWARD APOLOGY!!!"

once a weak eye sample (onimo), Friday, 3 February 2012 10:33 (twelve years ago) link

Well done on the sale Col. I watched the last ten seconds of bidding!
I wish I knew what happened to the piles of records my grandparents had - hundreds of old once-loved 78s are gathering dust in a box somewhere.

once a weak eye sample (onimo), Friday, 3 February 2012 10:35 (twelve years ago) link

(xpost I do Hugh Grant impersonations, yes. If there's any chance it might impress anyone. In the states. Actuaaly it might have, but I was with "Management" so wasn't allowed out on my own, so..)

Mark G, Friday, 3 February 2012 10:42 (twelve years ago) link

vita nova (not my one) finished at 907 uk pounds! insane!

will wait a week or so, then i think i will list mine..

Talcum Mucker, Sunday, 5 February 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, you gotta try and beat that col. poo and his price. record wars!

i've got a 45 up now and 40 people are watching it. that's a lot of people. the air is filled with tension. i'm excited if 20 people are watching a record. 40 definitely means something good is gonna happen.

scott seward, Monday, 6 February 2012 21:29 (twelve years ago) link

i mean, it's a lot of people for a record that 99.99% of the world has never heard of...

scott seward, Monday, 6 February 2012 21:33 (twelve years ago) link

what record is it??

JacobSanders, Monday, 6 February 2012 21:47 (twelve years ago) link

a funky one.

scott seward, Monday, 6 February 2012 21:50 (twelve years ago) link

I joined eBay in 1999 specifically to buy some long-searched-for records.

Also used it to sell off some excess records I'd somehow acquired over the years. That's how I found out my Bobb Trimble album I'd never listened to was worth $200+. Should have held onto it - it trades for nearly $1,000 nowadays....

I would have, knowing what I know now. This was late '90s, not much online about him yet. Great stuff, and he has a new record out too. Wasn't mentioned in price guides of the day.

Lee626, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 11:59 (twelve years ago) link

I like this eBay bucks thing but fuck making me wait til the next month to use them.

This KInd Of Punishment's Beard of Bees on Ajax is up on ebay!! Wish I could bid on it...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/KIND-PUNISHMENT-Beard-Bees-LP-Ajax-Press-Peter-Jefferies-Xpressway-/160734645636?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item256c880d84#ht_500wt_1072
the seller also has a lot of other interesting records too.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 07:08 (twelve years ago) link

Wow, I really can't find anything on that Graf Spee record he is also selling. Looks interesting though!

Evan, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 17:26 (twelve years ago) link

when I click on that link all of the "recommended" albums beneath it are Peter Frampton LPs

I shoulda taken out a bank loan to buy stuff out of the Ajax catalog back in the day.

sleeve, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 05:09 (twelve years ago) link

Seriously! I remember when I received their catalog that said the store was closing, then afterwards the catalogs stopped. I owe that guy so much though.

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 05:19 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Don't know if anybody's interested but this is up for sale, really great record

one month passes...

what should we list my wife's original copy of GBV's 'propeller' for?
should we put a reserve? do it buy-it-now?

one dis leads to another (ian), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

roll the dice. start it at ten bucks. live dangerously.

scott seward, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:14 (twelve years ago) link

i never have understood setting a reserve on records, it usually discourages me from bidding. i prefer the seller to start the record at either the base amount they want for it or starting cheap and letting people decide what they want.

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:22 (twelve years ago) link

i kind of agree on no reserve.

skot: don't want to start it low because, tbh, it's only "worth selling" if it's gonna help us significantly pay off our vet bills/other debts. so i don't want to list it at $10 and have it only sell for $200, even though that's a lot of money, ya know

one dis leads to another (ian), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:30 (twelve years ago) link

tbh, i think we might just put it up buy it now for $1000 and see what happens lol.

one dis leads to another (ian), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:36 (twelve years ago) link

mike rep cover art.

one dis leads to another (ian), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:36 (twelve years ago) link

there are gbv records that sell for money???

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:44 (twelve years ago) link

propeller was ltd to 500 copies with hand made covers... routinely sells in the 700-1000 range. sometimes more, sometimes less, but that's kinda the average i think.

one dis leads to another (ian), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:54 (twelve years ago) link

i wish i still had my records from high school, white bee thousand, vampire on whatever, devil between my toes

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

records, man.

one dis leads to another (ian), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 01:07 (twelve years ago) link

there was this one gbv 45 i had with a great song called shooting star, i think, it was good

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

here's the exhaustive (and exhausting) gallery of Propellers: http://www.angelfire.com/pq/propellerclub/

which cover do you have, ian?

nerve_pylon, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 01:56 (twelve years ago) link

i've always made good money on gbv stuff. steady sellers. like pearl jam.

scott seward, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 02:19 (twelve years ago) link

it's not mine, it's helen's, but it's a mike rep drawn cover. like the one on that website but without the red.
