I joined eBay in 1999 specifically to buy some long-searched-for records.

Also used it to sell off some excess records I'd somehow acquired over the years. That's how I found out my Bobb Trimble album I'd never listened to was worth $200+. Should have held onto it - it trades for nearly $1,000 nowadays....

I would have, knowing what I know now. This was late '90s, not much online about him yet. Great stuff, and he has a new record out too. Wasn't mentioned in price guides of the day.

I like this eBay bucks thing but fuck making me wait til the next month to use them.

Seriously! I remember when I received their catalog that said the store was closing, then afterwards the catalogs stopped. I owe that guy so much though.

what should we list my wife's original copy of GBV's 'propeller' for?
should we put a reserve? do it buy-it-now?

i never have understood setting a reserve on records, it usually discourages me from bidding. i prefer the seller to start the record at either the base amount they want for it or starting cheap and letting people decide what they want.

i kind of agree on no reserve.

skot: don't want to start it low because, tbh, it's only "worth selling" if it's gonna help us significantly pay off our vet bills/other debts. so i don't want to list it at $10 and have it only sell for $200, even though that's a lot of money, ya know

tbh, i think we might just put it up buy it now for $1000 and see what happens lol.

propeller was ltd to 500 copies with hand made covers... routinely sells in the 700-1000 range. sometimes more, sometimes less, but that's kinda the average i think.

it's not mine, it's helen's, but it's a mike rep drawn cover. like the one on that website but without the red.

man. I don't have anything with a Mike Rep drawn cover, but I *do* have an original of GBV's 'Sandbox'. On whatever label they released it on. I bought it direct from Scat ... after the either the 'Grand Hour' EP or the 'Vampire' LP came out, Scat started selling a bunch of GBV backstock early LPs through their mail order distro catalog. I loved the 'Grand Hour' thing so much that I punted on a copy of 'Sandbox.' Didn't buy the others because I was a broke youngin'. Later I got the 6lp box set, so ever since I've had two Sandboxes.
