what's up with people emailing you before an auction is even over to send you a lowball offer? like, just wait to see if it doesn't sell before offering me below my opening bid, dude.

and you know, if it doesn't sell, im happy to keep this ragtime record for my own self!

reggae people would always offer me half of what a record was worth. i ignored them.

But.. but I can give you $XX cash right now

Had a dude try this one last night with <6 hours to go:

"I wish to withdraw my bid please.. I just won a purchase for a similar item. Hope you understand, thank you."

His bid was eclipsed fortunately, but also thankfully eBay now has safeguards/seller protection to prevent shit like this from getting out of hand.

yeah, that's ridic -- don't bid on two copies of the same record until you know you've lost one. or if you're prepared to buy two copies.

(ebay ppl have it easy in that regard. there are two copise of the skillet lickers 'liberty' 78rpm in two different mail auctions right now -- and i want that record, cuz it's really great, but i'm not gonna bid on both copies cuz i don't want to own both copies.)

I won this lounge record on Sept 1 and today on the 7th, I received a message : "There will be a slight delay for your record. I am out of stock of mailing LP supplies. I am searching for emergency supply and should have your record out Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for your patience and for bidding."

i'm always happy if people just tell me what the hell is going on. it makes a big difference.

I'm actually surprised, he didn't just make a mailer! I've received a lot of records in make shift crappy boxes, one was two pieces of cardboard then wrap in so much tape, I think he used a half a roll.

so, this guy who bought abt $100 worth of records from me, says they finally got to him in Australia and are all heat damaged -- what do I do?
I can't really afford to refund him, but I feel like a dick if I tell him he's got to eat it? The package was not insured.

ouch... maybe give him 30 bucks? tbf this is why you (the buyer) should insure int'l orders. can he get a refund from Paypal? does that create problems for you if he does?

If he makes a claim with PayPal it takes if outta my account. If he makes a claim with the post office I don't think that works cuz I only declared the package for like twenty bucks..

great record! i think i paid around $20 for my copy, but i dunno what the 'going rate' is.

oh yes it is so so so so wonderful-- it's one of my top 3 favorites of theirs but i wanted to know whether $29 was too much to pay
(i already paid it because i felt like i needed a present, but i just wanted to be reassured that i was not an idiot even though i know that clearly i am an idiot)

That will sell for 17,5 to 18,500 I'm guessing - I've read often how it is one of the most sought after pre-war blues out there - wonder if Crumb is bidding!

i don't think crumb does ebay! i bet Richard Nevins will be one of the high bidders, if not the winner -- head honcho at Shanachie/Yazoo with money to burn..

you never know, though. i bet it'll sell for a lot. wouldn't be terribly surprised if it tracks $20k.

So interesting to think about how people have this kind of money to spend on a record. Other people save up that much to do major renovations or buy new cars.

wow did you read the public Q&A section at the bottom, it sounds like the seller didn't really realize what he had. someone offers $4,000 to end the auction early and he's like "hmm eBay won't let me change it to a Buy It Now, I will call them and see." and then other people chime in that it's worth way more than that. dude almost got hosed.

thing is, the dudes who are bidding on this, in the even of a win, can probably unload some other rarities to make up the cost, or at least a chunk of the cost.

this is why i only buy string band records, which tend to top out in the 7-800 zone. i rarely pay more than $20 for a 78.

I dreamt that I was in bidding war on that Tommy Johnson 78 and Tera came in the room and asked what I was doing. I tried to hide from her cause it $45.000 but she saw my computer screen and got mad at me and told me to stop bidding.

So I won a record on ebay on saturday and he only offered Expedited Shipping or another option that was $21. No media mail option, so I thought ok, I'll just get the record a day earlier, I'll pay the stupid $9.39. So today he finally shipped the record! Why should I pay Expedited Shipping if the seller is going to wait 4 days to ship the record???

Given that, I'd ask for a refund of the difference between media and expedited...

On top of that the seller lives here in Texas and charged me $4 sales tax. Is ebay enforcing people to charge sales tax if it's in the same state?

i think ebay automatically adds the tax? come to think of it, i don't think i've ever sold a record on ebay to someone in NY -- i do it on discogs all the time though, but that's a different beast.

is it every state that requires that sales tax addition? definitely neither ebay nor discogs requires it, though ive had cali sellers on both insist...

still been following that Tommy Johnson auction with interest. $16,800 and there are six hours left. watching the end of it will be my workday entertainment for this afternoon.

Yeah this is the most exciting record I've watched sell that I have no way of buying.

Oh, that reminds me of watching a Beatles record hit $18,000(?) a few years ago.
