I'm sure the winning bidder will AT LEAST inquire about how it's being shipped. At this price I imagine that kind of conversation eventually ends up a phone call and many emails. They likely have picked up on the fact that this guy may be pretty clueless...

Evan, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 18:28 (ten years ago) link

i don't know clueless he is. yeah he was ready to take $4,000 but to be fair there is no standard to go by and $4,000 is gonna sound like a lot to someone. if i had found this in a box i would have known it was money but i never would have known how much money.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 19:16 (ten years ago) link

yeah to be fair he did start the auction at 500 bucks not 5. and he's at least conscious enough about condition to say "no" to all the people who are like "you need to play it once and record it," it's right to leave that up to the buyer imo.

dmr, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 19:40 (ten years ago) link

When someone offers me $4000 for something I'm not sure of the value of, I'd google it before accepting any offer.

nickn, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 20:00 (ten years ago) link

Yeah it's a clueless thing for someone to just accept an offer like that seemingly right off the bat. Saying it's because you "live close to where the artist is from" is especially flimsy as the only reasoning at that price even if you're a collector.

Evan, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 20:34 (ten years ago) link

that's the thing, he wouldn't find a price if he googled.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 20:40 (ten years ago) link

wow...

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:15 (ten years ago) link

i'll be your mraz (NickB), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:20 (ten years ago) link

dmr, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:20 (ten years ago) link

Hope it wasn't one of your kids mucking around on your account xp

i'll be your mraz (NickB), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:21 (ten years ago) link

uh. damn. wouldn't have guessed that high

Evan, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:22 (ten years ago) link

Is this the highest an online auction for a record has ever gone?

Evan, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:26 (ten years ago) link

I guess "david" is kicking himself for not offering the $4k up before that first bid more than ever at this point.

Evan, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 21:28 (ten years ago) link

because now ppl are gonna be selling all their 78s for more money?

69, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:09 (ten years ago) link

if i have any beef with tefteller its just that he can get a hundred dollar buy it now price for something i'd be lucky to get 20 bucks for on ebay. cuzza his name. but hey that's not his fault. he's got the rep.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:13 (ten years ago) link

pete -- i just mean in the sense that he's probably gonna scoop up a lot of other records from this dude that other ppl will never even have a chance to bid on, if he goes to visit him and checks out his storage units.

ian, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:18 (ten years ago) link

my friend adam once tried to bid on a sleepy john estes record that tefteller was selling on his site and got a really snide reponse back being like, "you're never going to win with a bid so low! you should bid more! the investment value of these records blag blh blah

ian, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:19 (ten years ago) link

spend more money, dummy!

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:23 (ten years ago) link

Especially since the seller's wife wants him to "DOWNSIDES."

nickn, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 22:25 (ten years ago) link

Haha. I think by DOWNSIDES he was saying that he wanted to buy storage lockers to flip the contents and his wife said there were DOWNSIDES.

SEE DISCRIPTION

Evan, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 23:02 (ten years ago) link

I assumed he meant downsize ("Get rid of all that crap, George!").

nickn, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 23:21 (ten years ago) link

I re-read and you are probably right!

Evan, Thursday, 26 September 2013 00:51 (ten years ago) link

Ok so who is tefteller??

JacobSanders, Thursday, 26 September 2013 00:53 (ten years ago) link

scott seward, Thursday, 26 September 2013 01:30 (ten years ago) link

I've never heard of that guy, but I have a Maddox Brothers and Rose record that he's asking $250 and a Reno and Smiley one for $200! I had no idea those king country records were worth money?

JacobSanders, Thursday, 26 September 2013 01:54 (ten years ago) link

he's a bit crazzzzyy and definitely gets more money for some records than they're worth. also depends on the condition of course. 78 ppl are nuts about condition.. but less so with the post war stuff, i find.

ian, Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:10 (ten years ago) link

Wow, watching this auction today and reading Tefteller's blog inspired me to put up my beloved VG- copy of Glass Houses on eBay today. Vinyl is the new stock market!

scott seward, Thursday, 26 September 2013 11:36 (ten years ago) link

anybody know where duder's $$$$ came from? certainly not from buying and selling records... must be nice to not actually have to make a living doing your "job".

no kids, i assume? where will these records go when he kicks it?

moe handy, Thursday, 26 September 2013 18:32 (ten years ago) link

he very definitely makes his money selling records.
