or how about $20 on a used Jon Spencer record that's currently in print for $14?

Thanks. Those seem very reasonable to me

Nik Raicevic's HEAD LP? Trying to figure out what kind of offer to make on a dimply, maybe VG at best copy.

Bob Djukic is someone who for some unbelievable and unknown reason gets tons and tons and tons of money for his records on ebay -- there are various theories as to why including his lavish descriptions, huge number of auctions going up at once, and potential shill-bidding conspiracy theories. my pet theory is that his customers are all wealthy russians.

yeah that guy is unreal. some people really do have rabid followings though. not as extreme as that guy mostly. but there are people who swear by certain sellers and will pay way more for their stuff. those regular first pressing prices are ridinkulous though. crazy people prices.

scott seward, Tuesday, 4 September 2012 02:16 (eleven years ago) link

like those Love albums. i wouldn't get anywhere near those prices if i put the same copies up.

don't even ask me about the sealed jesus christ superstar. that defies all logic and sense.

honestly though the long-ass anal descriptions pay off. there are sharper image hot stamper rich dudes who just want to feel like they're buying "the best". you know? and hey it works.

what do you think a good price would be for an original (US) XTC gig poster from 1980? 50 bucks?

los blue jeans, Friday, 19 October 2012 22:42 (eleven years ago) link

also some fliers: 9:30 club 1985, Wax Museum (DC) 1982, PIL 1982, "new wave night" 1980, ramones 1985, and a couple of mimeo zines?

The XTC poster is printed on glossy cardstock (one color) but I was thinking about $5 each for the fliers since they are basically photocopies

Lineup at the Wax Museum: Tommy Keene / Richard Thompson, Danny O'Keefe and Chris Smither / Commander Cody / Cris Williamson Plus Tret Fure & Vicki Randle / Ramones / Touchstone featuring Chick Corea & Paco DeLucia / The Producers / Monarch / The Roches / Iggy Pop plus Nash the Slash / Crystal Ship A Renaissance Of The Doors Plus The Liquid Light Show / Chuck Mangione and His Quartet / Jonathan Edwards and Friends with Special Guest Robert Hunter / Rosanne Cash / Blotto / Willie Dixon & John Lee Hooker

i would like a chris smither flier.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Saturday, 20 October 2012 04:59 (eleven years ago) link

the "chris smither" part takes up about 1 x 1/2 inches of the flier- but if you want it stop by my table

what's a good price for an original VU & Nico LP (stereo) -- banana is intact (just a cut right under the stem) -- plays VG (crackly)?

vinyljunkie, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:41 (eleven years ago) link

$50? $60? then look for a clean bananaless copy, sell the bananaless cover w the VG record for $20 or something, and BAM you gotta tight keeper copy.

what about these 4 lomax ballad hunter library of congress records i have. do i just slap 20 bucks on them or should i ebay? none for sale on ebay which is a good sign.

scott seward, Sunday, 7 July 2013 03:10 (ten years ago) link

those ballad hunter records are rare but i don't think they're particularly desirable.. i bought my complete set for $50.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Sunday, 7 July 2013 03:15 (ten years ago) link

ended up cracking the seal on the bare knuckles LP. inner sleeve and label both giveaways that it's the reissue. oh well.

anthems in eden by Shirley and dolly Collins: $25 a fair price? I spotted a copy at a nearby shop.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Saturday, 20 July 2013 20:42 (ten years ago) link

seems fair to me! i think i paid around $20 for mine. great record.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Saturday, 20 July 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link

it's really not something that turns up very often, in my experience. still need a copy of "love, death and the lady."

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Saturday, 20 July 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link

oh god i just felt my heart squeeze a little -- there are copies of either of those floating around out there? would buy in an instant!!

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Sunday, 21 July 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

they both got US pressings on Harvest!

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Sunday, 21 July 2013 19:33 (ten years ago) link

but they didn't sell very well, i guess, and i don't see 'em very often. i've seen anthems in eden several times but love/death neeevvvver. i think my buddy has one maybe..

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Sunday, 21 July 2013 19:34 (ten years ago) link

yeah but i have never seen either -- i just can't imagine walking away from anthems in eden regardless of price or reissue status. would buy in an instant!! it's one of my favorites.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Monday, 22 July 2013 04:34 (ten years ago) link

did you ever get around to reading shirley's book, "america across the water"? i think you'd love it.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Monday, 22 July 2013 15:39 (ten years ago) link

also it looks like i was wrong abt love death and the lady.. no US pressing on that one. there was a reissue by BGO though. but also an import.

i read it when it came out! on my <3 honeymoon <3 of all things.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 19:33 (ten years ago) link

(j/k but i hope you enjoy it! probably in my top 3 favorites, the medley at the beginning is the best medley ever)

i'm not opposed to a sale in the future, though i am enjoying it!

Yknow speaking of price checks, I just came upon a copy of an Early Music Consort of London record (w David Munrow) that was still shrink wrapped and priced at $2?! It's Pleasures of the Royal Court. Whaaaaa?

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Wednesday, 24 July 2013 00:42 (ten years ago) link

that's not terribly underpriced, really. there are a lot of 'early music' records out there and not too many people collecting that stuff. you can get tons of similar stuff on the Music Heritage Society label for just a few bucks.
