there was also an *unreleased* 4th LP that Akarma put out, and then it seemed to quickly disappear. I tried to order it from Forced Exposure a few years ago around the time it appeared, but it was always perpetually "on backorder". Never ended up scoring a copy. Huge bummer, and I've been forced to scour the 'bay ever since.

then there is also that 'Abelard and Heloise' thing by the original band which i think only ever had a CD release, on Voiceprint (same label that does all the Soft Machine archival stuff.) Still haven't found that one either.
― Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 1 March 2011 06:09 (thirteen years ago) link
that one's not as good... I had it but did the burn and sell. There is a great CD EP on Voiceprint called "Radio Session", also from the 90's iirc.

Listened to Ian's show on the archive last night, really enjoyed it. Good sequencing, great segues/crossfades.

Is sonny sharrock the only black person on the list
― 69, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 16:00 (twelve years ago) link
I don't know the ethnicity of most of the list, but no others jump out at me aside from Malcolm Mooney. There are a fair few non-white people on the list, but as far as I can tell, not many black people.

joseph bowie plays on a james white & the blacks record, but he is neither james white nor a contortion, so i think thats a no.

I thought Ghedalia Tazartes was black, I don't know why.I remember getting a L'Infonie reissue when I was at the college station that was pretty rad, I'd like to hear it again.

― space bl00ps (NickB), Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:30 (ten years ago) link
never heard any of his solo stuff, but (maybe too obviously) his contributions to mantler's edward gorey record comes immediately to mind, given a lot of the participants on it made the list.
also if you can find it this is amazing: url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gittin%27_to_Know_Y%27All/url
his piece on that has vocals provided by the great karin krog

for the curious, just discovered 4 discs worth of material from the baden-baden free jazz meeting at:

haven't attempted to d/l yet, so caveat emptor etc.

i like inconstant sol
― 69, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 20:45 (ten years ago) link
inconstant sol is pretty reliable -- has been posting free improv stuff for many years.
Also, I finally heard Lemon Kittens -- and they are totally awesome
― sarahell, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 22:02 (ten years ago) link
I have been really really into them lately, even more than usual. All of Karl Blake's solo output is also totally awesome (The Underneath and Evil Twin especially, Shock Headed Peters too).

i have that dimthings record in my store right now. it's a hard sell.
― scott seward, Sunday, 21 February 2016 17:21 (eight years ago) link
also, the Ultra album is essential.
Given their obscurity, some of the artists named on the list have been a mystery for many collectors.[4] Stapleton has even boasted that some of the names on the list were invented,[5] a statement absolutely refuted by John Fothergill.[6]

Well, you're in for a treat. The only tracks I recognize by name are Lard Free's "Warinobaril" and the Horrific Child's "Frayeur", but they're both stone cold classics. (The Horrific Child is probably the best record JP Massiera put out.) I know the others by name - the only Mahjun I spin regularly is a dodgy audience bootleg from a '76 French rock festival but it's a jam.

I have the ZNR record the track is from, I'm sure because of the list...
― S-, Wednesday, 17 July 2019 11:36 (four years ago) link
Not sure if I know the particular tracks, but Etron Fou Leloublan have some great stuff, also know Horrific Child, Henry and Guerin. Which means there's still a lot for me to discover there.

I did a weird French music of the 70s comp for a friend a few years ago that had most of these tracks and/or artists on it!
