the overwhelming sadness of finding a record you own has a defect

like, when you don't realize the pescado rabioso 'two' LP you haven't listened to is warped. or when you notice that your steve young 'rock salt & nails" now has a deep scratch across the first two cuts.
and you just get sad.
cuz now you gotta fix it, or upgrade, or whatever. and it takes away the enjoyment of listening to it! like, my warped record plays, but it looks so insane wobbling that it makes me anxious and i have to take it off.

/mental illness

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Sunday, 23 December 2012 18:09 (eleven years ago) link

this is the worst when you just ordered something through the mail and it's a complete pain in the ass to return/exchange. my practically brand new copy of Electrelane's Axes has only been played once because it's warped to the point that it sounds like every guitar note is being bent up and down

"NOW" it has a deep scratch across the first two cuts? meaning you did that or your cat or something?

i can't believe how much new vinyl i see that is warped. new pressings. at least 5 out of 10. maybe more. i opened up a bunch of new sun ra reissues that scorpio sells cuz they had been in the store forever and i'd never heard them and they were all warped a little bit. but i see it all the time.

also, distorted pressings do my head in completely - made even worse when the whole pressing is affected so buying another copy doesn't help ;_;

makes me wonder if all these youngsters w/ their record labels actually listen to/appraise test pressings.

my theory is that the people who are left pressing records have way more work than they can handle. major labels, little labels, all kinds of people want new vinyl now.

worst thing that happened to me wrt to this subject recently was pulling out my copy of time fades away only to discover that somehow a pine needle had found its way into the sleeve and created a nasty little scar on side one. Fuck.

xp: that's true, but they are still doing test pressings first...

This drives me crazy... got the new Can Lost Tapes vinyl box set last week, and out of 5 records, 4 are perfect, and one is warped... not enough to stop it playing, but enough to piss me off...
