Easy, take the Washington Flyer from Dulles to West Falls Church Metro ($9), hop right on the Orange Line.

national also looks like an 8 year old's idea of the future, just like much of dc.

phil, that takes literally hours. whereas the theoretical train situation from bwi would not take that long, though the obvious problem of whether or not the shuttle is actually running anything resembling the schedule they claim is thrown in there.

ie its doable but i wouldn't recommend it unless it was your only option and you had a lot of time to kill. it's also cheaper to get a cab from bwi than it is from dulles BUT BUT BUT warningwarningwarning bwi now has its own taxi service which SUCKS and none of the drivers have any fucking clue where they are going (even if it is a place that, you know, maryland taxi drivers should know where it is, like DOWNTOWN SILVER SPRING)

soooo actually i'm going to say that bwi is somehow managing to make itself worse and worse, i had forgotten about the semi-new cab situation.

in closing, forget it, bwi has become as bad as dulles.

Yes, see, all your options actually involved going to fucking bwi. National really is the best option. Shit, I lived in Fairfax for six years and still preferred National.

man the bwi taxi service really pissed me off last time i came thru bwi like last month or so. christ.

i was going from bwi to dupont circle at like 11pm and it somehow took nearly two hours and we ended up at the convention center???

dude those buses come every half-hour WINK WINK and they take like 15 mins to get there UBF

then the time before that i was piggy-backing onto my boss's taxi, he lives in downtown silver spring so i was going to just get off and take the metro and like the driver was completely mystified by even the concept of a town called silver spring. it's like 20 minutes away from bwi!!

Last time I flew out of dulles I took the metro to west falls church and did the Dulles Flyer shuttle. Took a while but worked fine. On the way back I took a cab back from West Falls Church metro after the Flyer dropped me off, since I had mad luggage and would have had to take a cab from foggy bottom anyway. The cab was only $16! Awesome.

Or you could take the 69 bus, there are probably girls on it and you could have a crush.

the last time i came in on amtrak i had the bright idea to rush and take the last metro out of union station instead of taking a cab. LOL UR DOIN IT WRONG! never again, we must've sat at metrocenter for forty-five minutes waiting for a delayed orange line train to connect with us. i wanted to get out but got into that mindfuck of "the second i get out this train will close doors and leave, just watch" and ended up just having a panic attack over the dilemma.

my least favorite DC transporation quirk is coming into union station on a late night amtrak. You have to get to the front of the train and then dash through union station to get one of the 5 available cabs for 200 people unless you want to wait for the better part of an hour.

then they try to fit as many people (with luggage!) as possible in their cabs and get REALLY angry when you tell them you're going to the opposite end of zone 1.

oh god the trying to fit random strangers into a cab with you--holy christ. if they're going to take you out of your way to go drop off some random person who lives "near you", they could at least cut y'all breaks on the fucking cab fare instead of charging full price. i've also had one of the cab drivers try to charge the extra $1.50 fee for extra passengers one time despite the fact that i had no fucking idea who this extra passenger was and it was his decision to take this person on!! what the hell?

fuck cab drivers who already have other passengers and stop and try to pick you up and by the time you tell them "F U i will take a different cab u lamerz" an empty cab has already driven by.

(yeah, 69, I know. take the bus.)

Or call and hire a car service. Seriously. No wait, no fuss, car all to yourself.

This may be precluded by budgetary concerns.

oh, I usually yell at the people who are already in the cab like it's their fault.

i investigated it a bunch awhile back and that was about as cheap as it got

you're going to basically have to get cable or the landline from what i understand? though i think you can get only dsl from the phone company but the price difference to get it with no phone line or to add the landline is so insignificant it's not worth making the big deal of getting ONLY dsl :\

but i haven't investigated thoroughly recently because i'm being lazy and scamming my work's wireless internet card.

yeah they told me that too $32 for high speed but not superfast and $42 for fast (if I don't get land line)

i might get comcast though it's faster + basic cable (i don't really care but it would be nice i suppose to have cable tv)

i have a wireless card too but usually am on my home PC and would be using it for web dev work

i've heard nothing good about comcast's customer service, though nothing has broken yet on our verizon stuff, and i'm sure verizon is just as bad.

that would be the main difference I've encountered between comcast and verizon, is that my verizon dsl doesn't get fucking hosed once or twice every month.
