I have a lot more patience for SNL during its crap years than a lot of people, but god, this season has been horrific. I guess amy poehler had been holding this on her shoulders for a long time.
wiig has some comedic sense to her and I could like her in the right situation...but all of her characters make me want to turn off the tv.

her *i am making faces and acting socially unaware* schtick works really well in 'adventureland' imo, and pretty infrequently on snl

that was the first funny carville sketch though xps

Not a fan of Wiig on SNL. At times she seems so redundant of improv comedy formulas for how to be funny or create a character. xpost

i came back into the room to birds dippin bread into sauce and lol'd
Loved this.

The sauce dip and last week's "Happy birthday, ground!" = show redeemed for me somewhat

oh my god, fred's getting LAZY with his obama act.

That Food Network sketch was some serious belly laughs for me.

fred started lazy. motherfucker needs to stop, whether or not they ever find someone else to play obama.

the pool sketch was also belly laughs to me, but that's just because I giggle at the word "Tampax"

"man the digital shorts really hit rock bottom this week"
al, this week's digi almost redeemed last week's. ok, no, it DID redeem it.
"i'm an ADULT"

my DAD'S not a PHONE
the pool sketch was maybe one of the best three things about that episode. honestly, i'm always praying for an SNL where EVERY skit knocks it outta the park instead of just a couple. though, you know, vinny vedecci (or whatever) can do no wrong by me. (best vinny v: the seth "bearman" rogan one)

"my DAD'S not a PHONE"
i was howling with laughter at that one!
"i'm an ADULT" was the rock bottom i was referring to -- the one this past week was OK but kind of forgettable

My main problem with the impression, maybe I've said it here before, is that he's clearly taken pains to get the cadence of Obama's speech down without even bothering to modulate the timbre of his voice.
― M. Grissom/DeShields (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:57 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah absolutely -- he has a tiny kernel of accuracy in there but he's still playing it w/ essentially the same voice as like 10 other characters he does
― Gucci_LaFleur (some dude), Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:58 (fourteen years ago) link
His Obama is way better than 90% of Hammond's impressions.

I didn't say it was a good impression.

how many good obama impressions are there out there?? it doesn't help that SNL's only actual black dude is a fat guy who is terrible at impressions / acting

The BET interview show sketch made me see why some people hate Kenan. It was baaaaaaad. (I still love him, tho.)
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 18 October 2009 07:01 (fourteen years ago) link
I don't hate him, he seems nice...he just shouldn't be on a comedy show...
― iatee, Sunday, 18 October 2009 07:10 (fourteen years ago) link
can someone explain why the 300 guy was on complete with a 300 sketch a zillion years after the movie came out...
monologue where he had to explain who he was to people made me squirm.
― scott seward, Sunday, 18 October 2009 14:32 (fourteen years ago) link
i felt bad for him cuz he was really horrible. that show was mostly really really bad.

yeah that was also an excellent surreal idea for a sketch and featured the best james franco performance in a decade

seriously, i'm pretty bleh on kenan, but that sketch was good. i knew where it was going after about five seconds but it was fun anyway.

I don't know why everyone hates Kenan, I think he's funny and has some of my favorite lines of the last few years. ("SILENCE, AMY POEHLER!!") You can only do so much with what you're given on the show.
― mojitos (a cocktail) (Cave17Matt), Sunday, 18 October 2009 15:36 (fourteen years ago) link
What Up With That? was a prime example of why I love Kenan. I'm getting kind of burnt out on Wiig, so Kenan is easily my favorite cast member now.

he has a new movie opening that should be at least #2 for this weekend. lots of times when people come on SNL to promote new movies they also do sketches parodying their old movies.
but yeah anytime they have someone not super famous on and they have to kind eagerly namedrop what they've been in to remind people it's uncomfortable
