WAHT, WHERE IS ENGERLAND AGAIN?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

i haven't seen amanda, though i have seen a bunch of bad haircuts, tracksuits and crooked teeth.

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

CHEERIO, PIP PIP

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Otto is OTM about iced coffee at home. I did this after New Year's day, i.e. when I made a ton of coffee in expectation of having friends over and then lapsed into the hangover negative zone.

I like doing crunches/oblique stuff. It makes me feel like I could take a body punch.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Evan that is cool!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, thanks! I'm going to London in about 4 days, which will be fun.

And by fun, I mean really fucking expensive.

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:25 (seventeen years ago) link

wait, are you in england or the ukrainian village?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:25 (seventeen years ago) link

HEY-O!

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

this exercise info coming to you from a formerly-fit person who is currently stuffing herself with bacon.

AWESOME.

And you're a formerly fit person who then got way too skinny, and should really fatten up a bit. I think you're on the right track. :)

OMG the socks and tights that I ordered with my Christmas money have arrived!!! I am going to go home and put all of them on.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I do that every time!

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

zero ambience is almost always an indicator of heavenly ambrosia

Zero ambience + powerful smoky bbq smell = yes.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

That may be a big problem with Smoke Daddy, actually -- it's decorated like a TGI Fridays. And everything costs $9.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Right after Honey 1 opened I walked past there over into Bucktown and the alleys and streets for about a block and a half all around were cloudy with smoke from the place. The yuppies were pissed.

Also Kenan, they have the "Texas style" spicy sausages. I'm such a huge fan of this place it's ridiculous. It's so good and the owners are so nice.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

oooo socks and tights--what do they look like? i was so excited to see my roommie wearing stuff i'd gotten her from sock dreams for xmas. i now totally adore that website, even though i rarely even wear socks myself.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

There are few things in the world more cozy than brand spankin' new socks. Actually, I'm at a loss to think of anything more cozy.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Vaginas, I guess. They're more cozy. But in a really different way.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:45 (seventeen years ago) link

sigh

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:46 (seventeen years ago) link

XXP: Some of the sock dreams knee socks are too tight for my calves. :(

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:46 (seventeen years ago) link

in my extensive bathrobe collection, i have a couple that are that cozy. comparable to new socks, anyway.

yes, i have an extensive bathrobe collection.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:49 (seventeen years ago) link

The blue bathrobe rivals any sock, I agree. I wish I didn't look so hilarious in it, or I'd steal it.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

(No I wouldn't.)

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Doing crunches can reduce the appearance of a fat gut by tightening the muscles and--when done in tandem with lower back excercises like they should be--improving posture, thereby decreasing the prominence of the belly.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I find that the prominence of the belly causes back pain. At which point I have two options: lose weight, or increase my abdominal strength to offset the back pain. I choose both.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

To continue alternating between crunches and BBQ - I like Smokin' Woody's near Lincoln and Montrose. I have a distinct memory of eating some pulled pork there and then seeing a terrible three-hour play nearby, but it was not so bad because it was like I had a smokehouse in my mouth for the entire show.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

the next chicago thread shd be called 'that old car might be worth money'

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:09 (seventeen years ago) link

strengthening the whole core (all those torso muscles) helps with the prominence of the belly, back pain, and the ease of everyday living movements (when lifting stuff or stretching to reach something or whatever you're less likely to get injured if you have a strong core).

OMGBBQ do these places do takeout?

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:10 (seventeen years ago) link

crunches + bbq, cat vomit + fine liquors

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Also stronger stomach muscles = you can suck in your gut for longer!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:11 (seventeen years ago) link

alternating between crunches and BBQ

Ain't that always the way.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet most/all of them do, Juulia. The pulled pork at Smokin' Woody's comes with sweet potato fries.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:13 (seventeen years ago) link

These socks:

And four pairs of tights: orange, green, navy, and these beauts:

http://www.sockdreams.com/_shop/image_upload/product_variety_1033.jpg

I have freakishly large calves, but that just means that the socks don't go up as high on me as they do in the photos. Like the thigh-high stripes will probably be over-the-knee, but that's okay.

Deej - good thread title!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:14 (seventeen years ago) link

It seems I like blue.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

strengthening the whole core

Yes! Hence my newly-reinstated regimen of push-ups. They work a lot of muscles.

Julia and I argued the other day about boy push-ups vs girl push-ups. My argument was that being on your knees defeats the whole purpose, because you're using half the muscles at best. Her argument was that I don't understand how female bodies are built.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

ohhhhhh sweet potato fries. awesome.

those socks look great, jenny!

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

A whole body stocking made like those socks would be cool. Or warm, in winter.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:17 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, so there is a E. Lakeview Edition TT in the works, we just need to name a place. The time is around 6:30. Food is necessary.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:17 (seventeen years ago) link

This is lame of me after making Lakeview suggestions yesterday, but I've got a rehearsal at 8:30 and so prolly can't make it.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Kenan, I got this this Nik Bartsch record last night and I think you might really like it. John too, maybe. It's like Steve Reich scored for jazz instrumentation, super restrained (10 min songs with no soloing to speak of).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Or rather, Lakeview/Buena Park/Uptown.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

push-ups from the knees use the muscles considerably less, yes, but a woman's center of gravity is in her hips, which ...would make me either have to bs or look up some physics to explain properly. the essence is that for women, that weight distribution makes the exercise a little bit different.

ones from the toes are still better, if you have the body strength for it.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

ooh. Thanks. That does sound up my alley.

OK folks, it's Bar on Buena. http://www.baronbuena.com/

It's just west of Broadway, on Buena.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Nick, Sarah, Kenan?

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

My center of gravity is different than it used to be. Or maybe it's just my GRAVITY, full stop. When I was in the 7th grade I did 70 push-ups in a stretch and wiped out everyone else in my PE class. But I weighed 120 pounds then.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Jesse... when exactly?
