and in fact regards things she sees on Internet messageboards as 'creepy'.

i don't get where this type of idea comes from. what's weird about finding something on an internet messageboard 'creepy'? internet messageboards are just another means of communication. reactions like this are like stuff you read about the early days of the telephone. HONEY, LISTEN TO THIS, SOMEONE OVER THE TELEPHONE JUST SAID HE WAS GOING TO MURDER OUR CHILDREN! HOW HUMOROUS THIS NEW DEVICE IS!

See here's how it is: if you're a regular on here, you can tell girls they're cuet, and they go "oh hee hee, thank you!"

If you're not - forget it. You're creepy.

Fin.

but I didn't say a girl was cuet. That was fake-Louis, remember? My own following comment about the obsidian eyes was 100% tongue-in-cheek.

oh hell, let mickey have his moment in the spotlight. my work here is done.

Several people have told me that I should die because I don't like certain video games, or I suggested they be more polite to new folks(granted, I stopped being polite to that person when they refused).

It's common sense that the basic rules of civil discourse(including turnabout) apply.

I don't know where else to ask this but is that "Louis Jagger" and if not is Louis Jagger a real poster and what is he notorious for. I read ILX a lot but I feel like I'm being punked whenever I hear him referenced? I would ask on the main board but I don't want to cause a dust up. Thanks in advance

"Sandbox rip" is when kids bury you in the sand and you fart but the air-bubbles never make it to the surface, then a week later, somebody is digging up some tunnels or some shit and discover your hidden fart-cloud treasure room.

mahalo 4 ur kokua (grady), Saturday, 6 January 2007 05:25 (seventeen years ago) link

That's kind of true, Trayce, but not because people are "regulars" or "cool kids" per se. As far as commenting on people's photos is concerned, maybe phrase what you're going to say as the kind of compliment you'd give a stranger in public, or a near-stranger -- instead of thinking that just because someone is a frequent and/or colorful poster, that you "know" them and can be familiar in addressing them. It's obv different for people you know in person, or have known online for a while, but reading what everyone writes can easily make you feel like you grok 'em already, when they might not know you at all!

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 6 January 2007 12:43 (seventeen years ago) link

It's hard for Louis to appear normal on ILX now because certain people's reactions to him have been very NOT normal from the get go.

I think this 'creepy' thing is exaggerated and abused as a term too often now. All too convenient. Perhaps attempts to flirt or even just attempts at humour/ice-breaking only get judged as creepy when there is not mutual attraction (not limited to sexual attraction....actually I feel pretty creepy right now just typing 'sexual attraction', DAMMIT). OR they are misjudged badly in the first place (easy to misjudge when trying to talk to people you don't really know), suggesting the person is socially inept or, if you will, AN CREEP. But it's interesting if you don't know what the person looks like (maybe more interesting if you do).

Thinking too much about something/someone tends to be judged creepy it seems. And being too readily open about personal matters, I guess.

But if ILXors never want to be told how pretty they are by people they don't necessarily know, why the hell is there a WDYLL thread every freakin month? Perhaps that thread concept is inherently 'creepy' itself? Or at least the way it pans out is. Perhaps not. I keep looking at it anyway, as do many others. It's one thing for someone to compliment you on relatively superficial level ("u r hott") every now and then. I would've thought it only becomes creepy when they KEEP doing it, building it up to a obsessive level - no matter how playful it's intended.

I don't really mind when these threads get derailed because it's otherwise only quotes people found funny, so not that big a deal.

-- (688), Saturday, 6 January 2007 13:46 (seventeen years ago) link

it's just so goddam hard sometimes G-child, i don't know...

only 3 options on ILX now:

1) creepy
2) obnoxious
3) boring

i guess you can mix and match for the occasion tho

reverto levidensis (blueski), Saturday, 6 January 2007 13:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I tend to go with boring, it's the easiest option.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 6 January 2007 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Yep, I'm definitely 3. For what it's worth, Louis has never seemed anything other than 2 or 3, to me. I saw how people treated him when he first came here, and thought that THAT was creepy, but otherwise, nope. And Jessie, if you're really bothered, don't give him things to reply to on threads like these, where it's just not necessary.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 6 January 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago) link

(XXXXXXP) Oh don't be disingenuous, there are lots of reasons to post photos other than the overly specific wanting to be told how pretty you are by people you don't necessarily know. Lots of the pics aren't even pretty or sexy in a purposeful, posed way that would benefit their subjects with any dependability -- you never know when you post a casual image whether someone's going to decide it looks GOOD or BAD! (Tho it's different when there are obviously posed or cheesecake-style shots, I'll grant.) So you smile for the camera at some drunken holiday party and stick the photo up because it's part of being known, having an identity -- or what passes for it on the internet.
