Not really, as mentioned above we found a place down the street with better wings and NFL sunday ticket. I wouldn't bitch about going, though, Boo the giant bartender who used to bounce at 9:30 still remembers my name.

A friend of mine works there...dont know how long he's been there, but his name is Pete. A friend of mine from Richmond. A big dude with a shaved head.

When do you wanna hang out? Wherever.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:03 (eighteen years ago) link

What are you guys doing for new years?

My mom is in town at the moment...not going anywhere or doing anything until the 1st I guess.

Luke ended up bailing on me Xmas eve, by the way.

Spink, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:04 (eighteen years ago) link

We wouldn't have been able to make it anyway, I ended up going to emergency care the next day :(

so are you guys gonna die?

ZR (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Tom's not, I don't have anything contagious. Me, yes, probably!

We don't know what to do for NYE. I have to work until 2230 that night, but a couple of friends of mine are going to be in town too, college buddies I've known forever. I think you met one of them, Nick, from Disco Cave Theater 3000 or whatever, if you know what I'm talking about. You may not.

I remember enjoying the Black Cat shindig two years ago.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 16:20 (eighteen years ago) link

we went to the black cat last year too, what is this "two years ago" nonsense? Of course, last year was total ass so perhaps "enjoying" was part of the equation.

We went through 10+ bottles of champagne, easy. Good god that must have been expensive...but I honestly dont remember.

At one point i remember at least 3 of us double fisting BOTTLES.

Spink, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 16:45 (eighteen years ago) link

That was the night Tom threw his shoe "at the window"!!! I don't know how we could've afforded all that champagne though.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 16:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah I remember now, that was the night I yelled "nice tits!" at random people across the street as we were LEAVING the place and then we had a huge fight all the way home! Is that right? Maybe we should just stay home and get riled up at one another over stupid shit. Save money that way.

Though OTOH at least at the BC we can be sure nobody is going to drop Usher on the jukebox or upstairs so we can avoid THAT happening again.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 16:57 (eighteen years ago) link

OK seriously do I necessarily have a drinking problem if I drink around 3 alcohol units (3 beers/glasses of wine/mixed drinks) daily (as in, each and every day of the year)? Because last night (as I was working on my 4th margarita--but mom kept "taking sips" so it was really only about my 3rd) my mom and husband tried to pull some half-ass impromptu intervention regarding my "drinking too much." Note: neither of them really drinks much at all, so pretty much anything "daily" strikes them as too much, I guess. My dad was totally mum on the subject so apparently HE's not concerned.

Opinions please: Quincie, lush or not-lush?

quincie, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 17:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Remind me to spend the holidays drinking alone next year.

quincie, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 17:10 (eighteen years ago) link

gee wonder why I called you an asshole.

quincie, that's not a huge problem, it depends. A) How do YOU act, do you have erratic behaviors from drinking or mood swings? B) can you go into social situations and NOT drink if necessary? C) Are you able to stop at or before 3/5/348/whatever your limit is for being "drunk" generally? I mean from what I can tell you seem OK, I wouldn't worry.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 17:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I think I'm fine now--no erratic behavior, no problem being social w/o drinking (although perhaps I would often prefer to drink, e.g. when parents are visiting!).

BUT I guess I do probably have that potential to tip over the edge into "problemness"--but I'm not sure that really means I need to change anything. I mean, I've maintained pretty much the same level of more-or-less daily alcohol consumption for years and years, and almost never do anything the would qualify as "binge drinking," but am I supposed to "cut down" because I suppose there is a remote possiblility that it could become a problem?

I drink more than my parents and husband, and more than medical guidelines describe as "moderate" alcohol use (one drink daily for women--puhleez), but it doesn't seem like too much to me. But then again, perhaps I'm an alcoholic who can't judge these things!

quincie, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 17:29 (eighteen years ago) link

To me terms like "alcoholic" are almost entirely useless because they're so completely subjective. One person can have a few glasses of wine a day and they're fine; another is a wreck off way way way less than that and has a problem. Of course, the more you drink, the more likely it is to be a problem, but it doesn't necessarily follow.

Basically, I figure that if you're not hampering your ability to work, interact with other people, maintain relationships or stay healthy then you're doing as well as anyone ever is.

ZR (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 18:50 (eighteen years ago) link

That is OTM. Alcoholic gets thrown around very lightly these days but to me that strikes me as something an eensy bit more serious than "Oh noes you drink more than x per day u must be a drunky." If you turned around and said, like, you sit around screaming at people out cars on a weekly basis or regularly can't make it into work or your friends started avoiding you, I mean, yeah, you have a problem but it's totally different to each person as to what that breaking point is! So I wouldn't worry about it.

Keep your posts limited to two sentences max. My add cannot keep up with this today. All I read in your last post Ally was "That is OTM so I wouldnt worry about it"...which seems to work fine regardless.

Spink, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 19:07 (eighteen years ago) link

To be honest with you I'm barely keeping up mjyself.

Deer pudding, hah. the (very nice) good old boy state trooper who arrived soon after I called 911 was on the line with a dispatcher like "well, a young lady saw this here deer walkin' out on the freeway and decided to take 'im out, so y'all might wanna send a road crew out to clean 'im up. Bring a shovel." There is fur all over the inside of my car! It's sort of disgusting, but I guess it could've been, uh, guts and stuff too. So if you're headin' out to the boonies anytime soon and the weather's a bit warmer than usual be sure & watch out for the improvised exploding deers.

I can't believe I forgot the Redskins-Giants game was on Saturday this week and missed the whole thing. Oh, and by the way HAHAHAHA YALL 4-0 in December HAHAHAHA awesome.

dar1a g (daria g), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 20:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Alcoholic=anyone who drinks slightly more than the person calling them an alcoholic.

I'd only worry if I couldn't go a few days without. Or if my liquor store owner started slipping me AA pamphlets.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 20:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Dar1a, your car sounds like a Joseph Beuys installation; you should put that shit in a gallery.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 20:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Perhaps he would have rather liked my black wool trousers covered in glass splinters and fur. They were all glittery. Also there were some streaks of kinda fat tallow stuff on the side windows, very Beuys..

Hi everyone! I am happy because I'm going to leave work early today and I don't have to show up again until Tuesday! And tomorrow I will get to hang out some with my parents! And then they will go home!

My one and only resolvation for 2006 is to do more stuff. In that spirit, anyone interested in a flick at the Goethe-Institut on Tuesday? It is called BIN ICH SEXY! How could you resist?

Also: please notate your New Years Eve plans thusly.

We don't know yet. Back-from-Iraq homeboy Nick is spending the ay browsing the web and reading through the local papers at my behest trying to find something affordable and reasonable for everyone; I left a message on Spink's phone but he doesn't listen to voicemail or respond otherwise; Ally's coworker is going to this $90/person all-you-can-eat-and/or-drink thing at the Front Page, right down the street from us, but it looks like we might do the Black Cat again, since $90/head is a bit pricey for a couple of our Maryland pals we haven't seen in exactly nine million years.

I think the gal and I are going to a few parties. We'll kick things off in Mt. Pleasant, then off to Takoma Park for a friend's birthday party (maybe meet up with Pete there) and then finish things at another one. Should be relatively fun, but as NYE always suxx beyond belief I'm sort of counting on something to fuck it all up.

$90 might be doable since we went the "cheap" route last year and ended up getting a case of champagne at DC bar prices anyway. I have to talk to the boss.

Spink, Friday, 30 December 2005 18:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah I feel you dogg but Danomi is half-unemployed at the mo, as Green Giant informed me dropping two c-notes is not a fun option for them to think about.

TOMBOT, Friday, 30 December 2005 18:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Forgot about them. Its easy to do when you live 15 miles from someone that never returns your calls or go anywhere unless you pick them up.

Spink, Friday, 30 December 2005 18:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't mind doing the Front Page thing myself personally considering that we probably spent $90 a person (WITHOUT food) last year but if there's some good alternative I have no problem with that. I really don't care cos I can't drink much anyway.
