i do hope we see walt again

I think virtually everyone will come back, even for a brief cameo, at some point during this season.

Damon Lindelof interview in USA Today from a couple weeks ago:

Great interview! My guess on the recurring character who didn't want to come back is Danielle. Surprised he was so candid about Cynthia Watros though. What is she even doing?

Nhex, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 23:56 (fourteen years ago) link

So it's moving to Tuesday nights at 9. Because hey! Why not move it around again?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:02 (fourteen years ago) link

eh...no biggie. They know the hard core of fans isn't going to bail now, and the back story's too complicated to entice too many new viewers, so why not. I'm just glad to finally get a start date.

WmC, Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, it's 2/2/10 btw.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:11 (fourteen years ago) link

(is that a clue for something?)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:11 (fourteen years ago) link

nah just conveniently the start of sweeps is my guess

Figured something like this would happen when Modern Family/Cougar Town have been doing well, they don't want to move them since they've got a brand new audience tuning into them. i guess The Middle is also doing well enough for them not to bump it out of its slot...

Nhex, Thursday, 19 November 2009 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Just re-watching the first couple of episodes (an attempt to run thru all the seasons before 2/2/10, will probably give up when I get to Jack's tattoos, Jack/Sawyer/Locke fighting for the 1000000th time etc etc).

Not sure if it's just cos I haven't watched any Lost in ages but the pacing and music etc seems a bit different. I wish Shannon had died in like the first episode though.

I've started rewatching Season 1, but just skipping around and kind of watching whichever episodes on the DVDs have commentary + random others in between, because I just want to brush up on the first few seasons before rewatching all of S5 (which the wife hasn't seen) when it comes out on DVD next month.

God yeah, there was a rough stretch in there wasn't there? What was this, season 3?

I think every season has had its rough patches, but there were some dreary parts of S3 & 4 especially.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 20 November 2009 00:56 (fourteen years ago) link

just starting to rewatch season 5 now. :)!

also last 3 mins of many an episode filled with contemporary soundtrack + montage of main characters walking around/sitting thoughtfully on the beach/near a fire

Thought that stopped once the batteries on Hurley's discman ran out?

James Mitchell, Friday, 20 November 2009 09:49 (fourteen years ago) link

2/2/10? So they'll show 2 episodes and then take two weeks off for the winter Olympics? That means the plan for seasons 4, 5, & 6 to run uninterrupted has been a total failure.

Yeah but it gets brilliant straight after that!

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Friday, 20 November 2009 10:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Thing about the Libby thing is that it's one of those things that could just purely be a coincidence, Ghostwritten-style. There's not necessarily any need to bring Libby back in order to answer that one.

If there's no Walt I'll be really pissed off though.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Friday, 20 November 2009 10:56 (fourteen years ago) link

The producers said that Libby was in the mental hospital because her husband died, and by the time she gave Des the boat she was better.

I think they're actually taking the Olympics on and running straight through them. Plus, it's really a necessity if they've got 18 episodes, but assuming the first is a two hour and the finale is a two hour, then 16 airdates, meaning that they've basically got to start on February 2nd or they won't finish during May sweeps.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 20 November 2009 12:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Looks like they've cast another Deadwood actor--John Hawkes, who played Sol.

President Keyes, Friday, 20 November 2009 12:24 (fourteen years ago) link

hopefully he doesn't die pointlessly in three episodes, never to be heard from again

John Hawkes was also the dude from Me and You and Everyone We Know.

"who else have been from Deadwood?"

Also the blond prostitute who got killed pointlessly, etc.

BleepBot, Friday, 20 November 2009 19:34 (fourteen years ago) link

xp There was a pointless murder of a blonde prostitute on Lost? How did I block that out?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:39 (fourteen years ago) link

lol a friend of mine's sister is the prostitute that got killed on Deadwood iirc -- supposedly they were interested in her being a long term regular but she or her family was embarrassed or uncomfortable about the ahem nature of the show/role so they wrote her off

dan me, perryhole (some dude), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:48 (fourteen years ago) link

braggin 09

No, I volunteered the information. I've never seen Deadwood, so that's the only thing I know him from.

Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:57 (fourteen years ago) link

i dunno i guess more namedroppin than braggin? i've never seen the show or met her myself so it was just a piece of trivia i wanted to be able to drop at some point.

dan me, perryhole (some dude), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:59 (fourteen years ago) link

worked out nicely on the show, if that's the prostitute i'm thinking of

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:08 (fourteen years ago) link

The actress was I was referring to was Paula Malcolmson (who played Trixie on Deadwood), she was basically put on the show at the beginning of Season 3 as one of the Others, only to be killed for no good reason immediately.

Nhex, Saturday, 21 November 2009 04:46 (fourteen years ago) link

I think it might be helpful to rewatch without the mindset that certain characters are going to be much bigger and more important than they turn out to be. I think anytime they made a big deal about such and such actor joining the cast, I always thought that they were going to be a regular and/or return from the dead somehow after they were killed off three episodes into their stint.

OR MAYBE THEY WILL BE RETURNING FROM THE DEAD AFTER ALL........

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Saturday, 21 November 2009 17:35 (fourteen years ago) link

how many characters introduced after season 2 have even really been important or had much long term screentime? I mean Juliet obviously and I guess Faraday and Lapidus, but it seems like in general the show is intent on always coming back to the original core cast, and when someone new shows up I usually don't expect a lot more than a brief arc.

turkey turkey turkey let's all get basted (some dude), Saturday, 21 November 2009 17:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Any new character introduced this late in the series almost has to be cannon fodder. They don't have time to get into any back story for them. From a recent press release it seemed that Frank and Illana are listed as main cast members for SSN 6.

President Keyes, Saturday, 21 November 2009 18:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Unless the new character is Alvar Hanso or something.
