grep is a command line utility that was originally written for use with the Unix operating system. Given a list of files or standard input to read, grep searches for lines of text that match one or many regular expressions, and outputs only the matching lines.

Well since you didn't seem to know which version of Word your .docx had been created with, it seemed a logical course of action.

Also, as far as "biggest" nerds go: I ain't in the same ballpark, the same league, or even the same fuckin' sport as the true nerds. You should talk to matttttttttttt sometime.

ATTENTION: Leslie passed the bar. This means that my bar results should be at my house, right now, unless the Chicago postal service decided to throw them into the river. Unfortunately, I will not be home until 8 pm.

I'm going to spend the rest of my work day vomiting in terror, I think.

xposts - oh, ok :-)

I took a hammer to my old secret locked box the other day when we were cleaning out a closet because I had lost the key. GUESS WHAT?! It was just a bunch of crap. I threw almost every last bit of it away. (A dead butterfly? ewwww)

I'm not stressin' about my coworker's comments. I just needed to laugh it off with yous guys. Also, I just found out a few minutes ago that my boss will be out starting now and won't be back until the 15th. YAY!

Amanda, I think I was fairly clear: my whole convo on thread is about comments from STRANGERS, not from anyone I know and like already. With that in mind, yes, that is how I feel.

Laurel, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Melon Shakers?

Eazy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:45 (sixteen years ago) link

sounds like a gentlemans club on mannheim out in stone park or something.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:48 (sixteen years ago) link

But Laurel, I could be a stranger.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Dr. C is great in that thread.

jaymc, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Surely one only gets like 0.05% of their lifetime compliments from strangers? Why would a stranger compliment you?

n/a, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually we should probably keep that discussion to that thread.

n/a, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Ginuwine's real name is Elgin Baylor Lumpkin.

Eazy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:52 (sixteen years ago) link

NUH UH

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Lumpkin? What a great name.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I complemented a stranger on his lowrider BMW 2002 the other night. Normally it's not the kind of thing I go out of my way to do but I was passing him on my bike and it was a really cool car, so what the hell.

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Elgin Baylor was a basketball player, ne c'est pas?

jaymc, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Do you ever do that thing where you see a stranger who, for example, is wearing the same shirt as you so you say "Hey nice shirt uh huh huh"? That's pretty dumb but kind of unavoidable.

n/a, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd never heard of him, but according to Wikipedia "Elgin Baylor was born in 1934 in Washington, D.C., and was named for his father's favorite watch."

Eazy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:55 (sixteen years ago) link

I am so classy I never see anyone wearing what I wear.

At least that's what I tell myself, when in reality I wear what I can tolerate and fit over my ridic shoulders.

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Swatch Lumpkin

n/a, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

oh sorry, Swatch Baylor

n/a, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Genuwine should have changed his last name to PUMPKIN.

KitCat, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I hate it when sales people in clothing stores compliment me because it's so insincere.

KitCat, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Let's see how many ways Sarah can misspell Ginuwine.

n/a, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Djinnyouwhine

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I read this week in the New Yorker that Herb Caen in the SF Chronicle coined the term "beatnik" when On The Road was released the same month that Sputnik was launched. (Lumpkin somehow reminded me of this.)

I think I've taken the few times I've been complimented in a clothing store as genuine (ginuwine).

Eazy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:59 (sixteen years ago) link

A stranger complimented me on my Powell's t-shirt recently. He must have been from Portland or something.
